Such a fab cake, Deny!

allhailtheaubergine · 07/09/2011 05:00

This morning I bumped into an old acquaintance. She greeted me with the words "My god, Aubers! You're pregnant! Congratulations!"

Hmm.

I am still not actually telling people yet.

DenyEverything · 07/09/2011 07:13

mine didn't look as good love but its an easy way to make a cake that looks quite impressive without having to buy extra shaped tins etc

aubers I feel your pain. I am wearing ever-baggier tops to work and we have a big meeting today where we all sit around a coffee table (so no table to hide belly behind) and its really obvious I'm in different clothes/look larger. Its like the elephant in the room (in more ways than one)

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 09:16

Hi, everyone long time no post! I am so tired these days, in bed or needing to be at 9pm. Yawn. My sister has started at her new school and she has to be at school for 8.15am, luckily DH is walking her in. Still a tired Purplebuns this makes!

I embarked on cake baking for DDs 2nd Birthday and I was pleased how it turned out, nothing very fancy in terms of decoration as I am beginner, but it was a triple layer so quite an achievement for me! Such an inspirational bunch with all your baking prowess, I wouldn't know where to start with a crumble..!

Someone was saying about spots? I am now a spotty individual, revisiting teenage years, although I don't think I was as spotty as I am now. The saddest thing is that none of them are squeezable, not fair.

Meme I hope you get better soon!

Aubers is there a reason why you haven't 'come out' yet? Sorry, if I am being a dunce and this is a sensitive issue, my memory is terrible Blush
I am waiting for my blood tests to be ok before I tell properly. Unfortunately DH told one of his friends who has a big gob will probably tell the whole world now. Hmm

I hope think that I have a couple of weeks grace before it is obvious that I am showing properly. I can't wait to feel the baby move properly, I love that where it is a few flutters not hefty kicks into your innards.

Biscuits I hate grocery shopping full stop, I do a big delivery online and then top up shops do have to be endured. DD starts going on about being hungry as soon as we get in the supermarket and all the way round it. She has to have something to eat, even if she has just had lunch before we go as she is soo hungry. Other than that she is fairly well behaved and will help put shopping away once we are home.

I am home this morning so hoping some of you are around to chat? :)

DenyEverything · 07/09/2011 09:29

hello purps, am at work so happy to chat Wink

sorry to hear how tired you are. I feel exactly the same. Was up at the crack of dawn at work just to hear people moan about how early the surgery was. Grrr. Try getting up at 5am when you feel sick and tired.

When do you get your blood test results?

Someone else at work just announced (3 weeks ahead of me) so am DYING to let people know now but have to wait for bloods and scan end of next week.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/09/2011 09:32

Morning all,

Purple I too am all spotty - it sucks doesn't it. I was spotty all through my pg with ds - I waited patiently for the 'blooming' in the second trimester and the gorgeous skin that would accompany it, but nothing Sad.

How many weeks are you now Purple? I am 11 weeks today and will be lucky if I get to my scan next Friday before it is blatantly obvious! I am wearing much baggies tops to hide it but still look FAT! (or at least fatter than normal Blush).

I don't work though so at least I don't have to deal with eagle eyed colleagues!!

Hope everyone else is ok xx

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 09:36

Hi Deny, I feel a wuss really IRT to tiredness as I do minimal housework and go to bed so early, I have my part time job but not too hard. it is just the way it is I suppose! Getting up at 5am though?! Terrible! You poor thing.

They said a week for my results (so this Thursday)and if there is something nasty I find out earlier, so really I think I am ok now, just a bit worried really.

I am now not wanting to tell people as I have kept it secret for so long, it just feels a bit odd to be telling people. Soon you can tell the world :)

Biscuitsandtea · 07/09/2011 09:40

Oh and I meant to say - 8:15 is really early for school - my sympathies to the Purple household and to Deny for the 5 o clock start.

I think afternoon naps should be a legal requirement for pregnant people!

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 09:46

Biscuits she has to be early and then 8.30am register.etc, No lessons until 9 they have chapel, assembly or freetime playing pool in the common room until 9! She goes to local private as she is G&T and got a great scholarship. If any reads this in RL I have totally outed myself now Wink

I have updated my stats on the thread and think there are some people missing

Biscuitsandtea · 07/09/2011 09:49

Gosh what a busy school! Is G&T gifted and talented?

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 09:50

I didn't see your earlier post Biscuits. I am 14 weeks this friday, I can't believe it actually! We both are past 10 weeks, Phew!

Blooming! well maybe this time... My nails are rubbish and my hair is greasy, at least with Dd my nails were stronger and my hair shiny.

I have slimmed down a little bit, so think I had a bit of water retention or just baby taking it all.

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 09:52

Yes, gifted and talented it is kind of a secret from my dsis as I don't want her getting ideas and also I don't want her to feel inadequate as they are all smartarses at school. However, she has already been streamed in top set Maths which (the only topic streamed in yr7) goes against my keeping her grounded!

scarletfingernail · 07/09/2011 10:06

Morning all

All this baking talk is making me feel a little inadequate. Chocolate cornflake cakes are my limit I'm afraid. I have bought no end of baking books with good intentions, but I never get round to using them.

I'm now just over 7 weeks and only have 7 more sleeps until my 8 week scan. DH is very excited, I'm feeling a mixture of excitement and dread. But either way it'll be such a relief to have the scan.

Anyone seen Scream lately? I noticed she's not posted since early Saturday which I thought was a little unusual. Hope everything's ok Scream and you're just busy revising.

DenyEverything · 07/09/2011 10:17

respect to all you SAHMs out there. biscuits I don't know how you do it. Despite my occasional 5am starts, my 3 days a week at work are so much less physically demanding than my 2 days at home with DS (although not as lovely obviously!). At least at work I can get a cuppa and some time to myself!

Wow - am impressed with your DD purp, she will go onto great things I'm sure!

Nice to see you scarlet, hope scream is OK and just busy too. Great news about scan coming up, a few of us have scans next week don't we?

Went to chaotic playgroup yesterday with DS in local sports hall, my friend with twins goes as its only 2 quid with a toast voucher! It was INSANE. I was only there 40 minutes and saw kids having hands run over by older kids on plastic cars going about 20mph, babies crawling into the paths of said cars and I won't even mention the chaos of about 30 kids on a bouncy castle. Luckily my DS was only interested in carrying around a basketball and looked a bit daunted by it all. Maybe I've led a sheltered life but it was CRAZY! Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Never mind a toast voucher, they should hand out gin vouchers for the mums. There were a few that looked like they were going to have a fight or at least a nervous breakdown.

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 10:29

Deny That does sound crazy! I do wonder though as I seem to live in some toddler parallel univers where the groups are well organised and civilised.. The local soft play, if there are older boys in the under 3s area can be a bit hairy, but nothing like you describe or the threads that pop up on here about how awful the groups are.

Also, it is my little sister, not Dd (yetWink) very proud of her though :)

Scarlet I am the same, not much expertise, I intend to learn how to do stews and things over the winter as there is so much cooking I don't know. Exciting about your scan and all the scans actually!

DenyEverything · 07/09/2011 10:37

ah I see purps, well am v impressed with your dsis! You never know, it may run in family and DS could be just as G&T!

Purplebuns · 07/09/2011 10:47

It is genetic apparently, I am not really bothered, I would hate to be a pushy parent, if she has apptitude then gentle encouragement. Schoolwork/education is important to us and me and DH are both studying from October so she will be raised in a learning environment. Part of me thinks training to be a plumber/electrician is the most sensible route though :)

scarletfingernail · 07/09/2011 10:55

Deny I have been to 2 groups exactly as you've described when DS was younger. You wouldn't get me back at either of them for love nor money. I know my DS is my PFB but he was way too young to have to learn to defend himself. But I did find some lovely well organised ones too. I probably won't have the luxury of trying different ones out when this DC arrives. DS will still be at home with me so I guess I'll be having to find things to keep him entertained. It's another 2 years until he starts at school and as I'm SAHM I can't justify putting him in a private nursery. He does go to a lovely playgroup without me for a couple of hours a couple of times a week though, which he loves.

Purple I've just congratulated myself on putting a couple of lamb shanks in my slow cooker for tonight's dinner. That's about my limit for today Grin

DenyEverything · 07/09/2011 11:14

purps I know what you mean about vocational occupations being the best sometimes, especially in this climate. Exciting that you're studying from October - always good to be learning something new.

I think a nice playgroup a couple of hours a week sounds lovely scarlet. we also go to a lovely one during term time where they have crafts and singing with plenty of tea and biccies for the mums. Much more civilised and I don't have to worry about DS sustaining a fracture every 5 minutes!

Biscuitsandtea · 07/09/2011 11:27

Scarlet it is 2 years until DS starts at school too, but don't forget they get that funding from the term after they turn 3. Is it 15 hours a week or something either towards a private nursery or local pre school or similar. DS will get his in January as he'll be old in his school year.

Deny I'm wondering how I do it too today Confused. I've got a stonking headache and have finally just conceded to put the tv on as I'm totally out of energy to come up with anything else for ds to do - bad mummy biscuits :(

And on the cooking I have oodles and oodles of cookery books but am still not very good at many things. I can cook a few things to a reasonable standard but they are just repeated over and over. I wish I was better at more things. I will get better though. I just need more ideas. I think I actually have too many cookery books as looking through them is slightly daunting Blush.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/09/2011 11:32

I hope Scream is ok too - I'm sure you're right about the exams so hopefully that's all it is.

Come back Scream if you're lurking - we miss you :(

MeconiumHappens · 08/09/2011 11:19

Scarlet Im seven weeks today and have 8 week scan on 15th. so excited, which day is yours?

I keep dreaming i accidentally tell people im pregnant. Im busting to tell people. I actually told a stranger in top secret yesterday hahaha! 12 weeks is such a long time, its all i can think about really. At least in a weeks time if all is okay at the scan i can tell the parents and my closest friends. Very excited about that, the girls will be a screaming mass of excitement ha!

The caterpillar cake from the giant link was amazing!

dreamfeeder · 08/09/2011 11:37

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all doing well!! I am joining all those with super-spottiness. I look minging. And despite 10 days of super-vomming, sometimes keeping nothing down til 12pm, then always doing badly eating in the evening I am not really much thinner and very bloated. Sigh. And I had a day of 'tummy bug' illness with bad D&V and was sick or on loo or both every 20 minutes for 10 hours. I thought it was a bug, but had exactly the same but a couple of weeks later in the pregnancy with DD so wonder if it's just my body disliking it!? And I'm 8 weeks tomorrow I think. And DH has put his foot down about an early scan. Properly. About neurosis not being an indication for an early scan etc etc and we only moved house almost 11 months ago and not flush with cash so not paying for a totally unnecesary test etc etc. I am banned. Sad

meme, i hope you're ok, sounds grimbo.

scarlet, me ole' cycle buddy/pregnancy buddy, lovely to see you, I'm totally excited for your scan!!!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 11:45

Hello Dream

Welcome back - sorry about the sickness. And very sorry that DH has put his foot down about the scan :( Meanie

We are here though to hold your hand - we'll get you to that 12 week scan don't you worry!

Have you booked in with your midwife or anything yet? At least once that is done and you get a date for the scan we'll have a goal to work towards.

Am looking forward to everyone else's scans (including mine Smile next week. Are there any this week that I've forgotten?)

Meconium I know what you mean about telling people - I so want to get to next week when I feel I can 'legally' tell people without being (or being thought) irresponsible.

Right's I'm off to whip some lunch up for DS

Ciao Bellas mwah mwah

pommedechocolat · 08/09/2011 12:05

Dream - I never, ever get stomach bugs as have a stomach made of iron but with dd I had a couple and due to dd and her nursery so far this pg I've ahd about 5! Your immune system is pants during pg.

I am also very spotty and have a proper huge baby bump - at 14 plus 4!! Ridiculous! It is so obvious now.

I'm now wondering about a private gender scan as not sure I can wait till 20 weeks to find out what flavour baby is...
