Am not finding out gender, have always thought it's one of life's little surprises. I can see the practical reasons for it, but am going to resist :)

Im also a spotty oik. Another glam side effect of pregnancy. Weeing, burping, spotty. Lucky old Mr Meconium!

pommedechocolat · 08/09/2011 12:14

I'm still farting a lot which is also very glamourous. Dh tries to hide his alarm when it happens!

I loved finding out with dd and liked the way I felt connected to a 'real' person after knowing. I have a lot of doctors talk to me about a lot of horrible stuff when I'm pregnant and I like to feel like I know who I'm going through it all with iyswim.

I am also very, very, very impatient!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 08/09/2011 12:29

Hello people!

Welcome back, Dream! The D&V sounds grim - hope you're past that now. Shame about not getting the scan - waah! Can you persuade your midwife or doctor to send you for one for free?

Scream, come back! We miss you...

Had the Day From Hell yesterday - the septic tank started overflowing! Boak. I called the landlord and they sent someone out to look at it and when he arrived, the dog bit him. I was holding his collar and everything and he just would not stop barking and the plumber held his hand out to be friendly and the dog nipped his arm! It didn't bleed, and luckily the plumber isn't going to make me get the dog put down (phew!) but it was horrible. The poor man was very angry to begin with, and I can't blame him. Anyway, he said the outflow from the septic tank is blocked and someone will need to come out with rodding and jetting equipment, and I don't know when that will be. The factor hasn't called back yet. Then we took the dog to the vet because he's been limping since Saturday and the vet says he has an infection in his paw and he needs antibiotics and painkillers. This might have something to do with his Mad Dog impression yesterday. Then I had a fight with my sister because I was supposed to go in and drop off some books at hers and I was too knackered, and when I called to cancel she got really angry and hung up on me.

And breathe...sorry, needed to vent! 10 weeks today, booking scan not til the 28th, boo!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 08/09/2011 12:33

Oooh, gender scans! I am definitely finding out. I need to know what I'm getting so as to get used to the idea and pick the perfect name. Also, the nursery is all done up in pink and blue and more pink, so if it's a boy we will have to de-pink it a bit. How early can you find out? I know the booking scan is too early, and we found out at the 20 week scan the last time, but if you can find out before 20 weeks I might have to beg the consultant for an extra scan!

scarletfingernail · 08/09/2011 12:36

Yay welcome back dream. Apart from the puking how was your holiday? Is DD able to let go of your finger yet? Boo to DH putting his foot down about 8 week scan. Although sensible really. Your symptoms are so strong I guess it's not necessary. Your bean is making him/herself known quite well already Smile

I'm still pretty symtomless. Boobs hurt on/off, nausea comes and goes. The only thing which is constant is the permanent knackeredness, but that's pretty much me anyway. I even PIAR again this morning just to make sure. I'm pleased to report the line was the boldest it's been yet. My scan is next Wednesday when I'll be officially 8+2, but I think I'll be 7+6 really.

I won't be finding out the sex either. I was tempted with DS, but managed to resist so will do the same this time.

dreamfeeder · 08/09/2011 12:39

Oh, Too that is indeed a hellish day! Blame the paw for the dog, and seriously, don't hold your hand out to somebody else's dog they're already havig to hold back unless they say it's ok!! Is this not the first thing we are all taught as children?!?!? Ask before stroking dogs you don't know?!

I am better now, not been sick for 2 days. No way will DH agree to an NHS scan. He will say I fit no criteria (except Neurotic Mother) and it would be a waste of NHS resources when people with conditions/ problems in pregnancy/ suspected ectopic/mc etc genuinely need the appointments more than me. I do agree with that. Sigh.

We didn't find out DD was a girl until she arrved,w hich I loved. Convinced she was a boy as my bump was freaking massive and the scans before she was born showed everything on dates except femur length which was a good week ahread, so we thought tall, big boy. We got tall, little girl!! We're not sure whether to find out this time.

Midwife appointment next tues, when i'll be 8+4 or something, and assume will get booked in for scan. Mw is very scary. Hope its a different one, a locum or something! Hoping for an early oct scan...

jaggy, I looked for you and DS on the beach. What a shame we didn't see you. DD's anteater face is a scrunched up face with lots of enthusiastic sniffing when you ask her what the anteater says!! I think she will like jumping too. Maybe I can convince myself she won't because she's a girl Hmm. Hope you and spike doing ok.

dreamfeeder · 08/09/2011 12:42

lol, x posts, scarlet, my symptoms totally disappered yest, to nil, and am pretty much fine today so i'm not panicking at all

Anyway, DD just woke up and we have a 3rd birthday party to go to that we're already late for so got to dash!! And yesterday she decided she could walk by herself. We were in the early learning centre and she had things to do, toys to chew, clearly. It seems to have carried on into today!!! Hooray!!! Now to sort the falling over like a plank....

mememummy · 08/09/2011 14:02

Been released from
Hosp in sooooo tired but pills are keeping sickness at bay my 12 week scan was fine little shrimp jumping up and down all over the place x got consultant appointment in 20 days can't wait :D

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 14:50

Meme glad you're out of hospital - and that the tablets are managing to work their magic on the sickness - long may that last!

And great great news about your 12 week scan - what a nice relief to see your wee bean jumping about!

Hope your consultant appointment goes well. Not long to wait now.

I don't think I need to see anyone Consultant shaped until about 20 weeks, but all my problems were in the premature / traumatic birth department so I guess they just need to keep an eye on me at the end Confused.

scarletfingernail · 08/09/2011 14:54

That's great news meme, you're home and all was well at your 12 week scan.

Anyone else not stopped eating today? I'd been really good up to today making sure I have at least 5 portions of fruit and veg and now it's all gone wrong.

So far I've had, 2 chocolate chip cookies, 2 slices of marmite on toast, a packet of twiglets, a chip buttie plus a side serving of chips Blush and a quarter of pear drops. I'm craving crap!

As for fruit and veg I've only managed 1 glass of orange juice. Chips and pear drops don't count do they?

jaggythistle · 08/09/2011 14:59

good stuff meme, hope you continue to feel better.

i am getting impatient for a scan appointment. it's only been a week since my midwife app though!

i looked for you too dream, we didn't make it to the beach the first weekend as it was pissing down with rain when we got there so we just went round the shops! we went last Sunday though and did sandcastles. :)

i am so tired it's stupid. working at 6am this week is not helping. also feel simultaneously queasy and ravenous, while being thirsty and needing a wee. Grin keeps me entertained.

i really feel weird having a big secret at work, am kind of keen to just get it off my chest!

i really don't want to find out the gender, i loved waiting last time. DH really keen to know though so there will be some discussion...

jaggythistle · 08/09/2011 15:01

i will apparently get a consultant app at 34 weeks to talk about VBAC.

scarletfingernail · 08/09/2011 15:02

Just remembered what I meant to ask you all following on from my midwife appointment last week.

What are you doing about the flu jab? My midwife told me that it has changed this year and now all pregnant women are recommended it whereas it used to be after 1st trimester only.

I don't know what to do. I was hoping to not have to think about it until after 12 weeks, but now I don't know what to think. I'm full of cold and have had a chesty cough for 2 weeks now. DH and DS are the same. So, if my immune system is low anyway I'm thinking that maybe I should have it.

But on the other hand, why was it previously considered unsafe for women in the first trimester? And what are the risks involved with having it at any stage in pregnancy? Does anyone know?

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 15:05

Hmmm, I'd not really thought about the flu jab thing Scarlet. My midwife never mentioned it. When do they do it? Is it sort of Sept / Oct time? I mean if you are 8 ish weeks now (is that right?) then if you leave it until the end of October you'd be post 12 weeks anyway wouldn't you?

I don't really know all the stuff about what they recommend though. I don't have another m/w appt until the middle of October anyway so can't ask until then.

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 15:16

I've just phoned my GP on the back of that and she checked my records and it doesn't look as if I was going to be invited anyway (think they are sending the invites out now ish). She did say she'd go off and ask though for me. Maybe I've been overlooked Sad.

MeconiumHappens · 08/09/2011 15:34

They used to say not in 1st trimester for flu jab because that was on the manufacturers label although the nhs advice was for everyone, think its just arse covering. The benefits are thought to outweight the risks. Also manufacturers are always more cautious in first trim as thats when development takes place and thus more risk of amlformations etc. I had it last year so am already covered which is handy.

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 15:37

Does the flu jab last year to year then? I thought they had to change it each year to keep up with the flu trends ConfusedHmm

Also, can we eat scallops whilst pg? Dh and I are going out for dinner and I'm panicking about what I can eat off of the fancy menu. Don't want to go to an expensive resuarant and end up eating stuff I'm not keen on just because its the only pg friendly stuff?

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 15:37

restaurant

scarletfingernail · 08/09/2011 15:39

I'm not sure whether my GP would have written to me or not. I think my midwife was just talking generically. She just said I was eligible for it if I wished to have it, then went on about how the recommendations have changed this year and that I should think about it. She gave me a leaflet to have a look through and then told me to call and make an appointment with the nurse if I wanted to go ahead.

So, something else to think and worry about now. Every year I have the same quandry about what to do with DS. He's never had a flu jab so far, but I fly into a panic when I open a newspaper during the winter months and see there's another under 5 who's tragically died from flu. I endlessly debate in my head the pros and cons of him having the vaccine. It's easier when he's not in an at risk group as the decisions kind of been made, but then I wonder whether I should be looking into it privately.

Gah, I know, I know, I'm the world's worst worrier. If I never had anything to worry about I don't think my brain would cope.

scarletfingernail · 08/09/2011 15:42

Grin at London Flu Week. Now imagining flu bugs parading up and down catwalks.

MeconiumHappens · 08/09/2011 16:14

Ha! am thinking swine flu, as thats what is recommended for preggos. The seasonal flu jab now includes swine flu too, bt you dont need to have it again if you've already had the swine flu jab. Normal flu jab for normal reasons still applies.

pommedechocolat · 08/09/2011 17:36

I had swine flu with dd - was wondering if I'd get another one? It doesn't last for very long does it?

Too - Private scan places reckon they can tell from 17 weeks and they told one of my friends she was having a boy at just 10 weeks!

dreamfeeder · 08/09/2011 17:51

scarlet, I am mostly eating junk food. The other day, I threw up my breakfast, could only face a piece of toast for tea and had a Big Mac for lunch. Healthy.... I think not.

and gah! I'd forgotten about vaccinations. I didn't have it last time. I wussed out. Then worried about getting swine flu. I'm so focused on hoping there's a live, growing baby in there that I can't think about that til I've seen my wriggling baby on a scan!!! Thats what it feels like...

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 08/09/2011 18:11

I got the flu jab (which I think did include swine flu) in January this year, 7 months pg. I had to make the appt myself after a discussion at work that scared the crap out of me, and when I got there the nurse asked me why I was a priority for the flu jab. I took my coat off and said 'because I'm pregnant' and she was very apologetic! She said that the fact I was pregnant wasn't in my medical notes Hmm. You would think that everything the MWs recorded would be part of my medical notes, but apparently not. That's maybe why none of us have been contacted yet? I wonder if I'm still covered from that jab or not. I'll have to ask the MW.

Meme, great news! Hope you feel better now.

Biscuits, I ate a scallop on Tuesday (off DH's plate). Teriyaki scallops, to be precise. I think anything that's cooked is ok.

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2011 18:32

Just found this link which says we should have it this year according to MHS guidelines.

Might ring the GP again tomorrow to see what they say if they don't come back to me - like Too says though how can my doctor not know I'm pg? It must be in my notes?

I never had a swine flu jab so I think I'll get a jab this year if it contains the swine flu thing too. DH had swine flu when DS was about a year and it was awful. He was so so so so so poorly. I certainly wouldn't want that. DS had the swine flu jab the year it came out as those above 6 months and less than 5 were included - I know people were a bit hit or miss about whether to have it or not but after having seen DH go through it I just couldn't imagine DS dealing with it. So I guess there's only me and bean who aren't already immune now!
