Oh no dream not The Puking again?!

I'd take some of it for you if I could. I'm desperate for a bit of sickness to convince myself things are well. And that is a BIG THING coming from me, an emetophobe.

My hormones must be raging though. I called the Drs today to check if the results were back from my second pee test and they weren't. I burst into tears on the phone saying "so if I have another miscarriage over the weekend and I can't be seen until Tuesday, there'll be no proof I was ever pregnant." Receptionist did not know what to say.

So then I rang DH at work and was crying on the phone to him and then the landline starts ringing. Still sobbing I answered the phone and it was the Drs receptionist. She said as if by magic the result has just come through and it is positive. Cue more sobbing and me thanking her profusely Blush What a Drama Queen I have become!

So, I'm feeling much better now. But would still like a few more symptoms to put my mind at rest. Even the bad ones. Bring em on.

Anyone got anything good planned for bank holiday weekend? Nothing much happening here.

Scream good to hear your appointment went well. And doubly good to hear they obviously weren't concerned about weighing you. I hope I have that good fortune when I go on Tuesday Hmm

Dumbledore I shall now refer to you as Dumbledore instead of TooImmature why did I not think of that before? Fantastic to hear you have a lovely consultant taking care of you.

dreamfeeder · 26/08/2011 17:37

Thanks scarlet, i'll send some of The Puking your way, very generous of you Grin. I'm almost looking forward to some 'proper' food-in-tummy puking as all this wretching and bile-producing stuff tastes awful and is giving me a sore throat. I was already panicking this morning about not feeling sick when I had some dramatic wretching/ puking and poor DD hates it, and while I can't catch my breath from it I can't reassure her. I guess I just need to try and get her further away from me, but she'd prob still cry- thats not her 'norm' either!

I love that the nice receptionist rang you straight back scarlet, thats a lovely ending to the story. She must have had some sympathy for you. Rare in a GP receptionist I find. A scary and off-putting, doctor-guarding breed round here. Hence why I always ask DH and drive him round the bend I don't think you need more symptoms though. You're tired. You're nauseous. Blooming 'eck, what more do you want?! You are a Pee-stick Endorsed, GP-Recognised pregnant lady.

I don't want to go on holiday. There. I've said it. Ungrateful? Yes, I probably am. But DD has never been persuaded to nap in a travel cot, so cue days out/ immense efforts to get any daytime kip (pushchair walking, sling carrying, or car driving) and we all know what they're like without naps... And I just haven't got the energy for it now. Especially as if this time is like last time i know The Puking will ramp up. Unless I get a bit better at this Brooking No Argument about it. I will try. My honeymoon was at a similar time though- 8-10 weeks pg. It was hell. I puked everywhere. Up mountains, on every walk we did. A weeks skiing? Dreadful plan. Puked in the coach, the chalet, the mountain, the mountain restaurants and generally wanted to die I felt so bad. I just don't want a repeat!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 17:43

Oh Scarlet you poor thing. being hostage to your emoticons sucks doesn't it!?! I'm very glad to hear the doc's finally got their act together with your pee test. We are all still Brooking No Argument that your pregnancy will be a long, healthy and excruciatingly boring one though Grin so stay positive!

Sorry to hear The Puking is still following you around Dream! Remember the strength of resolve that it took to get those evil pee sticks to behave? You need to unleash some of that on this equally evil morning sickness! I do hope this is a temporary blip and the uneventful part of your pg will resume from tomorrow!

dreamfeeder · 26/08/2011 19:03

oh yes, that's the attitude scream. tomorrow, I shall not be sick. In fact, I shall not even feel sick. End Of. Fact. I will join scarlet, and biscuits, and we will have Frighteningly Uneventful Pregnancies. Oh yes we will

And what with the puking and the upset tummy I seem to have (and did last time for a lot of my first trimester) I am already a lb lighter. Weigh me, weigh me oh m/w!!!!!! They just asked what I was last time, didn't weigh me.

Amd dumbledore, my friend felt her baby move at 14 weeks. Very early. I didn't feel DD much til about 19, and was SO relieved at my 20 week scan when the sonographer said 'oh, I bet you haven't felt much movement, your placenta is totally anterior'. I was so pleased it wasn't just me not being tuned into my baby, I could have kissed her Hmm. Glad your m/w's good too

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 26/08/2011 21:26

If I'm Dumbledore, can the baby be Dumbo? Grin

Poor you, Scarlet - meltdowns are horrible because you just can't help it! Hope you feel calmer and are managing to Brook now.

Dream and Scream, the MW wanted to know my weight at the booking appt, sadly. Because she was at mine, I had to go weigh myself, but if I'd been at the surgery she would have weighed me. I have failed to lose my first baby weight, so I am starting off a stone heavier than the last time. Oh well. Will just have to rely on the magic breastfeeding diet. A friend of mine told me that she lost 4lbs in one day when she was establishing bf, and that she had lost over a stone in the 7 weeks since coming home from the hospital, despite eating lots of cake. And that she was in smaller jeans than she had been pre-pregnancy! Hopefully that will happen for me (assuming the bf goes well). However, I never got weighed after the first appointment last time, so hopefully that won't change.

dreamfeeder · 26/08/2011 22:12

dumbledore, all that is true for me about the weight. I'm normally about 8 1/2 stone, went up to 10st 4 or 5 or 6 with DD, I can't remember, was SOOOO huge, and the bf diet alone, plus cake, chocolate and food galore had me back to my normal weight, or within a couple of pounds, in 3 months. Normal jeans after 1 month. Now i'm less than I was before DD with bf + running around after her - (minus) the vast amounts of exercise I used to do. I always thought I was slim-ish through running/biking/walking and nothing else would keep me that way. I can bang on half a stone on holiday with the best of them without even trying (in fact, while trying not to). Turns out it's that and bf. baby dumbo it is Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2011 10:46

Morning all! How is everyone enjoying their sunny bank holiday weekend? I shall be celebrating the sunshine by locking myself in a room with some exciting textbooks - fun fun fun!

Very interested by all the talk of weight gain/loss. I used to be much lighter (pre-marriage!) but now I'm at my heaviest :( I'm resolved not to worry about it while I'm pg, but after the birth I'll be working my butt off to get back to my pre-marriage weight. I tend to blame my weight gain on having a stressful job with long hours, so I'm really hopeful that despite the lack of sleep I'll still be able to really improve my waistline during maternity leave. Fingers crossed!

I cannot WAIT for maternity leave! I live in a perfect area for long strolls on the common (2 mins from our house) and the village high street is filled with cute little coffee places where mums sit around having topical debates with their perfectly attired babies sleeping quietly next to them in the latest designer prams. I, of course, will be having absolutely nothing to do with these mums! Lol! My baby will be about as far from "perfectly attired" as you can get! However I'm still hoping to enjoy the coffee places with a few more down-to-earth mums (which I'm hoping to meet during the nct classes!)

I love the name Dumbledore but I'm just too lazy to keep writing it out! I might stick to Too if that's ok? I love Dumbo for your little bean though - so cute! Hopefully the mw won't need to weigh you again throughout this pg, everything I've been reading online suggests that so long as the baby is growing steadily they shouldn't need to weigh you at the antenatal appts.

Dream I hope you've been Brooking No Argument this morning! There is to be no excessive morning sickness here - we are NOT having it! (Hope you're feeling well).

I hope everyone else is also feeling well?

MeconiumHappens · 27/08/2011 11:28

Just poas (cant help it, am addicted) and preggo line came up straight away. Better than last time. I get a pink line high from poas..lol.
Still have heartburny/too full feeling. That weird top of stomach feeling when youve eaten too much and it feels like it not quite made it all the way down. Bleurgh. If i think about it too much it makes me gag lol.
Scream Maternity leave ooooo cant wait. Lots of my work colleagues have recently had babies and im an honorary member of the sit in gardens having baby picnics, so lovely. We're in a small village with no walkable cafes etc but will be doing lots of sling wearing/pram pushing whilst walking the doggy. I will definately NOT be one of the mums having topical debates with boden clad baby or competitive nct baby centile comparing. Wink

dreamfeeder · 27/08/2011 11:39

I. Will. Brook. No. Argument.

Tomorrow I will feel positively well and sparkly for my first day of holiday. I will not be sick in bags in the car. Oh no. And certainly not while we're there. IF i can even make myself pack for this holiday. The upset stomach is particularly bad this morning, I think i've just returned from visit number 5 to the bathroom and my bottom is sore from all the wiping now. TMI... sorry... However, though I keep thinking I will be, I haven't thrown up yet- Brooking working?!?!

How are your symptoms scream?

I have never, never been for a coffee with DD. She has NEVER in her life stayed asleep in a carrier, or since 9 months when she first went to sleep in a pushchair, while it was stationary. However, long walks? Check! I used to do the Walk of Sleep twice a day, every day for a good hour or 2 each time. Maybe this is the other reason I got thin quickly!!!! Especially as this winter it was -12 degrees by us. I would bundle her up (in her all-in-one Down suit bought for the purpose), stick her in the babybjorn and get walking for her to go to sleep after all indoor attempts failed again Little old ladies have actually stopped me and said 'oh, its so cold, get him home' (suit is blue) and i'd nod as say 'oh yes' knowing we'd we walking round by the river for hours to come!!! She stayed so toasty that dh has even bought her another marvellous waterproof-not-down but still Spotty Otter suit for this winter- not on offer!!! I couldn't believe it! (they're pricey, he's mighty tight...)

I was asked my weight at the booking appointment and never again. Doubt they'll weigh you scream

dreamfeeder · 27/08/2011 11:42

lol meconium, i'm with you!! I had DD weighed at her 9 month check and she hadn't been weighed for half her life at that point!! She is entirely hand-me-down clad, and I have bought her 2 outfits ever. And 5 white babygrows.

MeconiumHappens · 27/08/2011 11:47

Im pooing a lot too! Not to bum sore epic pooping levels, but more than normal. I think its because i've started the whole 'my body is a temple' eating of nutritious things before i start puking and only eating friendly junk I dont think my body has seen this much fibre in a while!
Would your gp not prescribe you some cyclazine just for your worse days dream? We'll all brook on your behalf and hopefully there will be minimal in car/on holiday puking.

They tend to work out your bmi at booking as this affects some aspects of care then not weight you again unless there is some reason too. I shall be wearing my lightest indian cotton for bmi day ;) And im still declining that gtt

MeconiumHappens · 27/08/2011 11:48

My spelling is appalling in type, my brain goes faster than my fingers can manage. Apologies!

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2011 12:12

At my booking in m/w took my word for it and I got weighed and measured at 12 week scan appointment.

I have put on half a stone already. Am I the only greedy one eating an extra 1000kcals a day here?!

How old is your dd dreamfeeder? I have a similar wriggly bottomed one and have recently discovered that I can do Costa for a bit now with her sitting on a proper chair. She stays still due to the novelty if snacks are involved. She is 17 months.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2011 12:42

At least this time round it'll be warmer for the The Walk Of Sleep Dream! I can imagine I'll be doing something very similar - my parents apparently used to drive me around in the car in the small hours for weeks, because it was the only way I would settle at night!

I'm soooooooo glad you're all in the anti-yummy-mummy brigade (I could tell from the witty and down-to-earth commentary!). I'm really looking forward to most aspects of being a Mum, but I'm really dreading the yummy mummies I'll encounter at playgroups, nurseries, etc. I live in YM central unfortunately (although I love everything else about our area!)

Dream I've been quite lucky with symptoms so far I've had a few unpleasant bathroom experiences so far, but like Meconium I suspect that's mainly because my body has never before encountered this level of veg / fibre / wholemeal / 2.5 litres of water a day / etc. I'm not convinced it's actually a direct pg symptom. My main issue has been exhaustion!! I'm so very very VERY tired all the time, and yet I can't sleep! My nose has been completely clogged for the last week (I suspect this is related to the vast quantities of cm I'm experiencing at the mo!) so whenever I lie down I can't breathe properly and therefore can't sleep! Fun fun fun. Anyways, as I said at the start, I do consider myself to be quite lucky at the moment. I've had the occasional moment of retching but no real vomming so far (I suspect this is building up and by around 6 weeks it'll be more of an issue...) I've had painful cramps, but so far I don't think I've had any spotting - which I am incredibly grateful for! I should be 5 weeks tomorrow so it's still early days here, I expect the symptoms are only just beginning!

What symptoms is everyone else experiencing? Also, for the people who are much further along, has anyone had a decrease in first trimester symptoms yet?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2011 12:51

Also Dream, I can't believe you're going!! I hope you manage to get to an internet spot at least once or twice while you're out there. Do you have a laptop you can bring? Loads of cafes etc offer free wifi so you could pop in for a coffee once or twice during the fortnight and let us know how you're doing! I hope you have a wonderful time!

Don't let your DH dictate how much time you can or can't spend on MN!! If you want to get away from it all and focus on your hol then go for it, that's fair enough! If you want to check in with us occasionally though, don't not do it just because of your DH!!

We will be continuing our No Brooking to ensure you have a nausea free holiday! This pg will be different to last time!

Pomme and Dream I love your stories of your little ones! They sound so sweet. I can picture Dream's DD last winter as a big ball of warm fluffy clothing and tightly wrapped blankets, with a teeny tiny nose (pink from the cold!) poking out of the top of the bundle! I also have an image of Pomme's DD as a gorgeous little girl squirming around constantly in a Costa high chair, playfully squishing any snacks put in front of her!!

I'm sooooooooooo broody!!!

jaggythistle · 27/08/2011 13:51

hello.

just put DS down for nap and fell asleep myself. Blush we still cuddle him to sleep then transfer to the cot, i think he'd just bounce round the cot if we didn't! (i tried it last week) i do quite like a cuddle of my wee boy anyway.

well actually he seems huge, can't believe he's 2 soon!

I'd say my #1 symptom is being sleeeepy. weeing a bit more, don't seem to have queasiness yet. i wake up every day at 5 for a wee. I'm proud to say i actually did some exercise twice this week, because i couldn't get back to sleep anyway! quite enjoyed dusting off the Wii fit.

boob ache seems to have settled down. my only annoying symptom is being really short of breath. i had this last time and thought it was my asthma, was checked for anaemia etc, turns out it's just one of those things that some people get.

if my boss notices i will be busted as it was so bad last time. that's if everyone doesn't notice me not drinking my free cocktails and wine next week i suppose.

jaggythistle · 27/08/2011 14:04

ooh I've come over all chatty! i ran out of room to type on my phone there.

i just dipped an internet cheapie for the first time since Monday as i was feeling left out - what a difference! a very pink line appeared as soon as the wee hit the test area. I've got so many left, it seems rude not to occasionally use one. Grin

hope you have a good trip dream. DS has been on about sandcastles today, so if you see a wee boy on the beach with a red bucket and a sleepy looking mummy that'll be us if weather nice tomorrow. i feel like you'll be worried that I'm stalking you now. Blush

am quite excited hearing about your appointments, mine's Wednesday morning. hope the midwife is in a good mood if it's the slightly grumpy one.

ah i can hear a wee shout of 'mummy', so I'll have to stop boring you all to tears now and retrieve DS.

dreamfeeder · 27/08/2011 15:44

pomme, DD's 11 months, nearly 1!!!! Birthday in 2 weeks, just can't believe it. I can try this hol. Maybe she would. I did try to sit her in a Subway booth when the desire took me the other day. Disasterous... But that is a slippy subway booth.

scream the Yummy Mummys with the designer clad babies frighten me. As does anyone who thinks they KNOW what they're doing from very early on or at all as who does?? None of my 'real' baby-friends say they have a clue. Most reassuring I find.

jaggy, i'm failing miserably with daytime sleep in cot at the minute, I will go and attempt to cuddle/feed to sleep now... Can she really, really want to have only one nap a day now at 11 months?? She's so tired it's just sobbing from tea til bedtime last few nights after this one nap scenario... Granted, the nap is earlier than it would be if I thought it would be her only one, but she's so tired by 10am. And, like you, i'm tired but DH husband got up with DD this morning and I couldn't get back to sleep. Though lying there doing nothing at all was lovely. Oh, and if DD sees you on the beach, she'll run over tugging me by the finger, and follow your DS round like a shadow trying to grab his spade. She is desperate to be one of the children

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2011 16:11

Dream isn't it bizarre how reassuring it is when no one else has a clue either!?! Lol! I feel like I've read so much about pregnancy and babies in the last few months that I could probably write a an entire book on it all right now! Yet I have absolutely no real-life knowledge, and I know that when labour pains kick in, or when I have a gorgeous little baby screaming the house down at 3 a.m. I will be totally lost!

I guess it's simply reassuring because clearly you and all the other people who have kids and still feel clueless are still doing really well! Your DD sounds delightful, and it's so encouraging that you don't have to know what you're doing and it can still turn out well!

Have you had a chance to pack yet? Your blizzard-with-added-nausea trip sounds like a nightmare! Isn't it lucky that this holiday will be nothing like that due to the vast amounts of No Brooking currently taking place! Grin

Purplebuns · 27/08/2011 17:15

Hmm I worry about this yummy mummy talk, I am not one but, I do have a Bugaboo and I have a designer nappy bag fetish so sometimes worry I might look like one.
I am not though and I am quite nice, I am a fully paid up member of the breastfeeding mafia (I do peer support and I am going to be studying for a year, come October to be a BF practitioner)and so you may see me breastfeeding with Bugaboo in nice coffee shop (I love Coffee). However, I will probably be a scruff bag myself! Wink

Also, my accessory addiction is so bad that I have decided to find out the sex so that I can get all the bits sorted for my pushchairs accordingly.Blush And maybe some boy friendly cloth nappies as quite a lot of mine are girly if needs be, anyone else thinking of/or using cloth?

All your Children are so young my DD is 28 months and will be nearly 3 when this one is born. I like to look for positives like I won't need a double pushchair, but I wish there was a smaller gap. Anyway, don't want to get too carried away as I haven't had my 12 wk scan yet!

As for weighing, I was weighed at booking in but as long as your bmi is below 30 they really aren't bothered and I was never weighed again with DD thank fully! The nhs website has a good calculator if you are worried.

Jaggy, I was short of breath and thought I would have to go back to using my inhalers, however it has settled again now. I hope it gets better for you to :)

jaggythistle · 27/08/2011 18:47

thanks purple, it got better by about half way through last time round! at least i know to get as much sleep/rest as possible as that was what worked before.

i don't want to get too carried away either (at 5 weeks!), but DS will be 2.8 ish when no 2 comes along. thinking we might get away with a buggy board type thing. I've already got my eye on a new pram, we got fed up of DS's one but i wasn't allowed to buy another as it was too late by then! he walks pretty well and we do have a lightweight pushchair so i can see why it was a bit nuts. need to get the old one on ebay now i seem to have an excuse...

jaggythistle · 27/08/2011 18:57

dream i can't remember when DS went from 2 to one nap. it eventually became one sleep either before or after lunch and he seems to still really need it. he does have his lunch at about 11.30 now though!

scarletfingernail · 27/08/2011 19:02

Oh dream I really hope you're not going to be ill for your whole holiday. That sucks. Do you find you feel a bit better after you've eaten?

I find myself feeling nauseous mid-late morning but once I've eaten something at lunchtime it passes. I was wondering if my nausea is a pregnancy symptom or not as it also coincides with me taking my vitamin supplements after breakfast. Does anyone else find their vits make them feel a bit queasy?

Boo to yummy mummies. I am most definitely not. Although like Purple I did indulge in a designer changing bag. The way I see it is this, you have no choice as to which bag you're lugging around everywhere with you. It is the same bag every day for months so it is worth spending a bit more as you have to look at it so often. Plus, the cheaper ones I bought first ended up ripping and tearing quite quickly so false economy IMO. That's how I managed to justify it to DH anyway.

It's funny though as I found when I had DS the most cliquey and "know it all mums" were the NCT ones. A lot of the local groups I went to were full of mums who had all met at the same NCT group and anyone who wasn't deemed an "earth mother type" was thoroughly looked down upon. "Oh, you use wipes (sneer) only cotton wool and water for my darling Horatio's bottom" etc. I gather from friends though who have joined other NCT classes in other areas that they are not all like this Grin

Symptoms - slight nausea (but could be vits), peeing more and in the night, tiredness, and funny on/off burny sensations and cramps in uterus, left ovary and occasionally lower back. Boobage has almost returned to pre-pregnancy apart from tingling nips now and again. Oh and I'm another one pooing more frequently. Again, I'm putting this down to eating plenty of fruit and veg.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2011 19:15

Hey Purple don't worry about the yummy mummy chat - no one in here falls into that category! More than anything being a yummy mummy is a state of mind - it's the smug superior holier-than-thou competitive nature they have that really makes a yummy mummy! It's not buying pretty things for your baby!

Grin at finding out the gender solely for the purposes of accessorising! Classic!

I'm not so sure about bf myself, I'll just see how it goes. I think mixed feeding is where we'll prob end up by about 6 weeks - I can't imagine being solely responsible for night-time feeds! DH is much much better than me at getting back to sleep after being woken (and sleep is very precious to me! Mainly because I get so little of it, I'm a real insomniac.) I think I'll be leaving the night shift to DH as much as possible!

Jaggy yay for having an excuse to put the annoying pram on ebay! If you don't mind me asking, what type of pram is the one you're getting rid of, and why was it annoying? There are just SO MANY brands out there I get overwhelmed just thinking about having to choose one!

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2011 19:17

I too have a Bugaboo - I totally hearts it as well. I am now working out how to raise the funds for a bugaboo donkey .

Dd went to one nap at about 14 months iirc...

I have had a severe aversion to fruit this pregnancy and managed a mango today which was good.

Hope you feel better on hols dream. One might be a bit little to see over the top of the chair. It's amazing how much they change in just 8-10 weeks isn't it? Insane development speed! I'm hoping dd's tantrums have passed when baby arrives. They're so draining!
