Hmm well I haven't gone out for the day. But we have been out for most of the morning. DS asked for some new sticker books so we've been to our nearest shopping centre and raided The Works. He'll be happy doing that this afternoon so I can put my feet up.

The good news is that my nausea has returned. The only thing that could get rid of it was a sausage roll from Greggs. I've never ventured in there before but I'm worried now it might become a craving.

Put my name on a green glittery vom bucket please Purple

TooImmature you've every right to be demanding and I'm sure they would have to comply given your circumstances don't they? I hope your appointment's gone well.

MeconiumHappens · 25/08/2011 21:29

Scream agree about early scans and no real evidence to suggest they are unsafe. Quite keen to go for a private viability scan as its forever til 12 weeks. Hope gp appt tomorrow goes well. Am planning to make a revival with a full linen outfit so as to reduced the dreaded bmi. Wink

Ooooooooof, have got heartburn and burping+++. 5 weeks today woop.

Midwife booking appt will be at 8 weeks ish but dont want to book it til last minute as midwife is a friend so will be outing myself as pregnant, also know she is ttc and for much longer for me and feel a bit sad for her too. A whole new level of tricky!

Biscuitsandtea · 25/08/2011 21:40

Yay Meconium - 5 weeks! 1/8 of the way there Smile

Your poor m/w friend Sad. It's hard enough when you're ttc and you have other pg announcements but imagine if that was your job, just literally every day you'd hear from someone who got pg by accident etc, poor thing.

I'm sure though that as your friend shell be pleased for you Smile

I had an early scan - had never read that they could be bad, but I still feel more relieved for having had it. Am still nervous about the 12 weeks scan but as I have so few symptoms in terms of nausea etc I would literally be beside myself if I hadn't had it. When we first got the BFP DH said we didn't need an early scan, it wasn't going to change the outcome etc but within a few weeks he had changed his tune as he started worrying too Confused

dreamfeeder · 25/08/2011 21:41

oh, meconium, a totally whole new level of tricky. Obviously confidentially wise she can't out you, but as her friend? ouch, outed!!! The worst bit clearly being that she's been ttc for ages and must be a bit Sad about it all.

scarlet, now did the sausage roll help significantly? If so, I shall join you and we can see if it is indeed a Rule of pregnancy or a one-off Grin

dreamfeeder · 25/08/2011 21:48

oh i'm being swayed! Less nauseous today = more worried. Maybe I'll drop the old early scan into conversation with dh like i don't know it'll go down like a lead balloon. After all, never believe all you read on t'internet and I love the idea of mirror twins, my friends horrible story is just that. A horrible story for her but no definites about it. Just gets me stressed and creeped out, big time, as it's so awful.

And hooray for minimal symptoms biscuits. My friend had almost none, at all, AND then had a home birth with no problems at all and only 2 paracetamol for her first baby. Jammy!!! She knows how lucky she is with that though. Grin. i'm sure biscuitcrumb will wave happily at you from your 12 week scan

dreamfeeder · 25/08/2011 21:54

errr, did I just complain about only puking once?? Someone give me a slap... Everything's fine, i'm sure in a good moment

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 25/08/2011 22:05

By the way, everyone should pop over to the brand new ttc thread where Ninja has provided pimped out Segways for everyone!!

scarletfingernail · 26/08/2011 08:35

Morning all

dream hows the sickness this morning? BTW the sausage roll was delish. I thoroughly recommend.

Scream I'm sooooooo excited for you having your booking in appointment this morning. It will make things seem much more real.

Meconium it must be very hard for your friend. I'm sure she will be delighted for you though.

I had a lovely evening out with a friend last night and I ended up telling her my news. It was a relief to tell someone and I feel so much better now knowing that there's someone I can call on if I'm having a wobble.

Off to check out the new TTC thread. See if there's a nice comfy segway with my name on it Smile

MeconiumHappens · 26/08/2011 10:25

Biscuitsandtea oh wow hadn't thought about it like that, 1/8th! That sounds almost impressive haha!
Scarlett Lovely to be able to share the news :) Im busting to tell someone but trying to resist.

How far along is everyone and when are/have people told family/friends?

pommedechocolat · 26/08/2011 10:33

Morning all!

Meconium - I am 12 weeks and have now told everyone but told family immediately and some close friends around week 6. Ended up telling more friends than I thought I would after a hen do spa party where it became blindingly obvious! My excuse for being impatient is that due to blood disorder I had 3 early scans and my risk doesn't go down at 12 weeks like normal people!

I'm sure your friend will be happy for you, poor thing being a midwife and taking a while to conceive that's hard :(

I just had a waitrose breakfast bagel, naughty but lovely... Am putting on kilos too quickly now though and need to rein it in!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 11:05

Morning all! Good to see so many glowing faces - the effortlessly stylish pregnancies are well underway I see!

Scarlet I'm so glad you had a good evening and were able to share your news with a good friend. Having someone in RL to vent to it pretty essential I think!

Meconium to answer your question (which is a great question! I can't wait to hear everyone else's answers!) I'm only 4 weeks at the mo but I've already told my best friends and my parents Blush. They all know that there's still a lot of risk at this early stage, and these are the people I'd be relying on for support if something goes wrong, so I hope I haven't been too hasty in telling so many people.

Pomme you're 12 weeks?! That's very exciting! I'm glad everything has been going so well in your pregnancy! You must be excited that everyone knows now!?!

My booking in appointment went well. I feel a little silly writing everything out again when I've already bored the ttc thread to death. I think it's worth mentioning though that I asked my GP about risks of early scans and he reiterated that there's really no risk at all from an early scan. He even said he'll try to get me a 8 week scan at the nhs hospital - even though that's not standard policy (yay!). He really was very kind and supportive. He also answered all my questions (very patiently!). I embarassed myself by nearly passing out during the blood test Blush but by the end of nine months I'll be a pro at needles so it'll be fine! Hmm

The only worrying part of the appointment was when I mentioned that my cramps get a lot stronger and more painful when I'm wandering around doing active stuff (shopping, cooking dinner, etc) when I mentioned this he looked really worried and kind of freaked me out!! My cramps generally quiet down again when I lie down or sit still, so the doc suggested that I should take it easy for the next few weeks (I won't be cracking open my new exercise regime for a while!) and although he said bedrest isn't necessary I should try to avoid doing too much in one go. He said if the cramps ever don't quiet down when I stop moving around I should get to the hospital asap (which also freaked me out!). So I'd appreciate your support in Brooking No Argument (in a quiet and restful sort of way).

Generally though it was all fine and now I just need to wait to hear from the hospital to see if I've managed to get a place at the one I want!

MeconiumHappens · 26/08/2011 11:12

Scream Its normal to get cramps, i think gp's tend to be more cautious about these things as they dont usually get very involved with pregnant women. As long as they aren't very painful or you have bleeding then i wouldnt worry. But do take it a bit easy, just because you can :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 11:29

Thanks Meconium I appreciate the support :) . The GP agreed cramps are normal, he's more worried by the way they get significantly worse when I'm moving around a lot. They are really quite painful at times, but so far (fingers crossed) I don't think there's been any spotting. However I now have it from a doc that I need to decrease my activity - so DH is going to find himself doing a lot more of the cooking and ALL of the housework I think! Grin

MeconiumHappens · 26/08/2011 11:43

haha sounds ideal!

Purplebuns · 26/08/2011 11:45

Scream I had this, and I am still ok as far as I know. How far along are you as 6-9 weeks your corpus luteum can cause pain?
I did take it very easy (and still am Wink) As long as I wasn't bleeding I told myself I would be fine. I know it is worrying and I did pay for an early scan, which was the best money I have spent! My gp referred me for a nhs scan and I didn't get an appointment even though I have had 2 mcs, as I wasn't bleeding. I hope your pct is better :)

Meconium my pils and four of my friends know.

Scarlet Green glittery bucket wouldn't the colour make you worse or is that my peculiarity?

Greggs is not my thing, I did have a thing for pork pies for about a week. However, subway is becoming a craving and their nachos

On another note I keep thinking I have felt the baby move.... Which seems bonkers, but it that almost there but not feeling which I have only felt with pregnancy. I felt DD move at 16/17 weeks which I think is considered early for a first timer? Strange Confused

This thread is getting lovely and busy, hands out sweets, pastries, greggs sausage rolls, restocks the glittery buckets, and takes the orders for Subway.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 26/08/2011 11:59

Scream, yes, perfect excuse to get DH doing the cooking and cleaning! Hope it is nothing to worry about, but you have plenty of trained Brookers standing by to help you if you falter. I am also a junk-food addict although have been much better this past week as I was too broke to buy it! Payday today, though, so will probably slip again.

Meconium, I am 8+1 today and we have told my parents, DH's parents, my friends, DH's friends, some of my work ppl and DH told his entire office! Hmm So yes, the majority of people know. We'll see how long it takes to filter through the rest of my family and office.

I didn't have to be demanding with the consultant because she was very nice and basically gave me a plan of care which was exactly what I wanted. I'm to go back in 4 weeks after my booking scan, and then I'll see her at 4-weekly intervals until after the 20 week scan, when she will start booking 4-weekly scans for me. I'll probably start seeing her more often as I progress, too. I've been put on daily doses of baby aspirin until 34 weeks just in case I have blood clotting issues which can affect the placenta - they can't test for that during pregnancy, so this is a precaution. She also took my booking bloods and this time the blood ran right down my arm onto my skirt, so v different experience from Tues! I'm to be delivered at 38 weeks and if I want an ELCS I can have one, and she'll get us some data on risks and so on so we can think about it. I've got another scan booked on Tuesday just for reassurance, too.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 26/08/2011 12:01

I keep thinking I can feel the baby move too! Which is ridiculous at 8 weeks. It makes me worry that half the movements I thought I felt last time were actually just wind. Blush

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 12:05

Thanks Purple that's really comforting! I'm staying positive and trying not to over-react. While I'm revising taking it easy should go hand-in-hand with studying more (if I ever get off MN!) I'll be heading back to work around 7 weeks, so hopefully I'll be able to speak to my mw not long after I've gone back and just see what she recommends. I agree with Meconium that GPs don't spend as much time with pg women as mw's!

Loving the junk food order! I've been insanely healthy all week except for the burger I was forced to have last night so surely if I have a healthy lunch I could indulge with a pizza tonight? Just a once-a-week takeaway treat? still ignoring the burger Hmmm, I can't tell if it's a legitimate indulgence or just my addiction to junk food slowly sucking me back in! I'm determined to feed Squeak a million times better than I usually feed myself!

Purple has a point about green glittery buckets encouraging more nausea!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 12:08

Too I'm really glad your mw is so nice and has an excellent plan of care laid out for you.

I have to say though I did just retch suddenly at you description of blood running down your arm.... Envy (nausea face)

Purplebuns · 26/08/2011 12:24

Dumbledore you know the ttc thread has loads of Segways, go through on the electric cart and get yourself one. Bullying tsk. :o
Dumbledore, I am pretty sure it isn't wind as it feels very different and it has only been occaisonally. And I am quite windy atm Blush When I had very full bladder I could actually properly feel my womb when I was lying down as well.

Scream I have given up, if I can actually manage to eat, is a bonus for me at the minute, I have a very restricted diet thanks to morning sickness.
So I have stopped feeling guilty and I am hoping I can eat better in a few weeks. It would be nice to eat vegetables more than twice a week, if I even manage that! I am a bit better with fruit, just annoying as I am a stickler for my five a day normally. I do have some salady stuff in my subway though. Wink

I do think I am probably going to be anaemic when I have my bloods taken.
If anyone is needlephobic like I am, I just want to say that you can be prescribed emla cream which is a local anaesthetic or buy it for £3 from lloyds/chemists. You will need a dressing to put over it, whihc you can get from your midwife or gp, the ones to go over an iv site are the best. Hopefully, none of you are as big a blouse as me though!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/08/2011 12:33

I am the world's biggest wuss when it comes to needles - tell me more about this magical cream?!

Any normal pharmacist will just hand over a magical cream called Emla if I ask? Which will take away the sharp stabby pain of needles? Awesome! What is the dressing for exactly?

Unfortunately I think for me the needle is only part of it, actually seeing my own blood completes the experience for me Envy so at least the cream could help with half the problem!

Purplebuns · 26/08/2011 13:08

It soothes a lot of my anxiety, it is a cream so it needs a covering to stop it from going everywhere and to make sure it goes in the right spot. You cant bend your elbow properly which is worth considering, logistically!
Lloyds give it out and it says to use a cm of cream, I use half a tube on each arm and do it 2 hours before my test to ensure numb! You can also ask to lie down, I have to as I have nearly fainted before now. Pathetic. Glad to know I am not the only one Scream
I also used to see the phlebotomist but I can't this time. They use baby needles and are trained to deal with gibbering wrecks, they also take blood all day everyday so are good at it. HTH Wink

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 26/08/2011 13:50

Ooops, sorry Scream! Didn't mean to make people sick! The consultant yesterday asked me if I wanted to lie down while she took the blood, so it must be pretty common.

dreamfeeder · 26/08/2011 16:41

HEURGHHH!!!

No fruit or vege's for me. salt and vinegar crisps, yes, chips, yes. Practically a vegetable...

Quick wave at all, a nappy change is called for with some urgency... will hopefully be back later
