MrsPotionsMistress · 14/07/2011 12:52

Congratulations wishwales good to hear you're all home. I don't post on here often, but I've been keeping myself abreast of everyones' news, and it's good to hear that Morgan is well.

Just posting to say that I think I passed my mucous plug. I'm 33+6 and wondering if I should bother the midwife. It wasn't blood streaked or anything, so I might just keep an eye on the situation. Midwife did say she thought I would be early, but this is a little early for my liking.

As for bras, there aren't many here but the ones they do have are good brands, very cheap.
I went to Bravissimo a few days ago. I got a 30FF nursing bra. It's a bit big, but that's to accommodate the expansion when my milk comes in.

Rehune · 14/07/2011 14:40

MrsPotionsMistress Yes call the midwife - that's what they are there for! How are you feeling?

wishwales so so so happy for you! It must feel great to have Morgan home.

Had the worst day at work. One more day to go and going off for appraisal meeting with Director who manages to slam door on me and then spill his cup of fcking hot fcking tea all over my stomach. brief agony, swearing and then tears because of the shock. Rushed into toilet with dress pulled up pouring cold water on scorched belly. Baby was moving during this so that was a relief but my stomach is so so painful and sore. 37+5 so it's stretched to the max. Have put a cold flannel on it - called midwife and also GPs who says go home and take a cold shower but havent driven into work today and can't face tube at the moment. Now that shock has passed and the redness and swelling is going down, I just want to sleep/. Poor director was in a worse way than me I think.

at least I have all of you to complain to!

neverlookback · 14/07/2011 15:01

u poor thing "rehune" wot a plonker of a director! hats off to you still going on the tube to work dont think id be able to do it not pregnant!!
got more to say but need to go to school, back soon!!!

RugbyWidow7 · 14/07/2011 15:05

Poor you Rehune that sounds awful! You poor thing. Last thing you need right now I guess.

Go home as soon as you can Brew to get out of there. Though appreciate you not feeling like the tube - it does take an enormous amount of stamina!! Urgh! But at least you won't be at work any more.

Chocolate and hugs! x

Rehune · 14/07/2011 15:09

Thanks neverlookback - now that initial shock has passed I can laugh at the fact that he ran away actually screaming. Like a girl. The panic was worse for him (probably thinking he would be sued since he hasnt done a risk assessment as required!)

Rehune · 14/07/2011 15:39

Thank you Rugbywidow feel better already just getting those nice messages x

CappuccinoCarrie · 14/07/2011 15:48

rehune you poor thing, and likewise I can't believe you're still going by tube, impressive indeed!

I've had the injection for the third stage the last two times and plan to again, as someone said it gets the birth bit over with, and I believe helps contract the uterus and seal the ends of the blood vessels to reduce bleeding. I didn't even notice the injection going in and wasn't particularly aware of the placenta coming out as I was too busy snuggling my babies.

Took bump photos last night, must get round to putting them up here. They make me look much much bigger than I think I look in the flesh but I think partly the baby was lying funny yesterday. The flash on the photos also revealed the presence of stretchmarks. Gah, thought I'd escaped.

Picked up my iron tablets this morning, hoping for some miraculous increase in energy.

MrsPotionsMistress · 14/07/2011 15:59

Poor you rehune get yourself a lie down when you get home.

NHAN · 14/07/2011 16:38

Thanks SisterT, its nice to know i'm not alone even though i'm sorry you're in the same position. I found it hard with my son but as i've done it once don't think it will be so bad this time round. Just gets a bit depressing when i see people out with their mums and new babies. Also when people ask if my family are happy about the baby?! random question for strangers to ask but amazing how many have lol

NHAN · 14/07/2011 16:43

Rehune that sounds awful, what a prat and he is no doubt pooping himself about you suing him now... hehe. Of all the people he could have burnt he had to pick the pregnant lady about to go on maternity leave.
Hope your stomach feel ok soon

MrsVidic · 14/07/2011 17:27

nhan Dp only has his brother who lives a long drive away and my folks live an hour away. I sympathise with your position, I know it upsets Dp that he feels like his family don't do their fair share compared to mine. I simply remind him we are 1 big family, my mum adores him and always makes a fuss of him (trying to compensate for him being an orphan)

rehune I would put loads of after sun on your bump to try to help. What an idiot boss, I bet he will never forget today!

I went into work for my last time pre baby today and was given some Lovley gifts aswell as a £35 voucher for boots! I'm going to miss it but I'm ready for baby to come now !

Is anyone else getting pain- Braxton hicks etc- I'm getting beaten up from the inside then the bh's start!

I'm knackered today- took dd to tumble tots and I think it tired me out more! She is still resisting napping in the day ( unless at nursery where she has 2 hours Hmm)

Firawla · 14/07/2011 18:38

rehune that must have been awful, glad you and baby seem to be okay though. im sure your boss feels so bad about it!!

as for the 3rd stage ive had the injection both times so think pretty likely will just have it again. with ds2 placenta took a long time to come out even with the injection, i cant remember exactly what was wrong with it but it was a bit problematic. didnt feel ds1's coming out at all as id had a spinal but ds2 placenta hurt and i remember being quite peed off thinking 'i thought it was supposed to be finished now he's been born!'

wondering how yukana is doing with the house move,i guess she is not around due to the moving. we are having some problems with landlady which is extremely annoying after all the effort it took to find somewhere in the first place!! just feel like i do not need the stress. luckily i am feeling otherwise okay and not too bad on energy at the moment. i think it actually helps to know i wont be going overdue this time, cos it makes it feel like hardly any time left. although i still havent got anything ready

neverlookback · 14/07/2011 19:34

was going to add my bit about the 3rd stage, with dd i had water birth and they said not to have the injection as everything had been so natural, it took a while they got me out the pool and i had to sit on this stool with a hole in the middle with a metal pan under it for gravity to help, they had moved dh and baby to another room and i remember thinking this is taking ages, then they got dd back in to see if it would encourage it and as soon as dh walked in with her the placenta literally shot out and accross the floor like an alien!!
with ds it was a big general hospital where i dont think they have time to hang around so i had the injection and then the midwife tugged and pulled at it till it came out, it wasnt a very nice experience i can remember feeling it tearing away inside me!

Not sure what im going to do this time? my mum had 2 retained placentas and almost died with me so im a bit scared of that happening to me, i would like to wait for all the blood to go through before the cord is cut im going to discuss it at next app.

MrsPotionsMistress · 14/07/2011 20:41

I thought tugging on the cord was a really bad idea.

I also had the injection last time, but I kind of had to because I had anaemia, and you lose less blood with the injection. Didn't really feel it, but I was completely high at that point.

SelinaDoula · 14/07/2011 23:28

Had a lovely party oday with lots of friends I hadn't seen for ages, like a baby shower and was pampered. Lovely weather all day! Will post some bump pics!
Planning a hysiological third stage, cord not clamped until placenta delivered unless its really short, in which case I will ask for the maternal end to be unclamped (less likely to be retained) and will make sure I am kept warm and encouraged to start breastfeeding.

alibaba76 · 14/07/2011 23:33

Re 3rd stage - if you're having natural, hormones help get it out quicker, which is probably why never's shot out when seeing her baby!! Reckon I'll get the injection, but there is a new direcitve (don't know if it's only in Scotland) that the MWs should wait 5 mins to allow blood/iron transfer from placenta to baby before giving the injection.

Potion Mistress at my NHS antenatal, they said the mucus plug can come early but if it does and it's clear, it will build itself back up again. If it's got blood in it, it's more likely labour is imminent. Phone MW anyway to put your mind at rest, but from what I hear, it's nothing to worry about at all.

Rehune what an asshole, even if it was an accident - will teach him to be more careful. No wonder you got a shock though.

Really tired tonight, probably worst I've been. Just tomorrow and Tues-Fri next week to go and then that's it. Driveway is getting done starting tomorrow, so won't be a very restful weekend, but at least it will be done soon. On the piles front, happy to report that things are improved with the cream. I'm not constipated so guess I've just been unlucky with extra blood/relaxed muscles causing them. Been told by MW that they will get worse during the birth but should disappear quite quickly afterwards (few days). Here's hoping.

Right bed! x

littlemissw · 15/07/2011 00:02

So glad to read about your good news wishwales! I am sure you are enjoying every minute of being a 'proper' mummy.

I wasn't going to tell you my birth story as I didn't want to scare any of you, but since you are discussing placentas, I thought I would... so here goes.

(WARNING!!! please don't read any further if you are terrified of giving birth)

I had a retained placenta with DD1 - it was AWFUL. I went into labour naturally, but very slow as she was OP (which they didn't realise until she was born). I planned a homebirth, so for the first 3 days(yes 3!) I managed on just my tens & gas & air (lovely stuff!). Although bubs was very happy during all this time, I was advised to go into hospital & have my waters broken & put on sintocin (sp?) drip to get past the 5cm I seemed to be stuck at. Ended up with an epidural as I was effectively being induced & very different from 'normal' labour. Progress was still slow & the consultant was getting rather keen on doing a CS. Luckily DD was remaining happy, so I got my wish to leave it a little longer & see if things progressed. DD was born naturally, with only 5 mins of pushing & no tares just shy of 74 hours after my first contraction. It was lovely. As my labour was not exactly straightforward & I was completely shattered I opted for a managed 3rd stage. This meant an injection & the midwife pulling gently on the cord to get the placenta out quicker as everything contracts much faster than it would if you are just left to deliver it naturally. Only in my case the cord snapped as the placenta turned out to be way beyond its 'sell by' date (even though DD arrived on her due date). Cutting a long story short, I was rushed into theatre, lost far to much blood & was pretty much told that any subsequent birth at home is out of the question unless I wish to bleed to death.

With DD2 & this time round I was strongly advised to have a manged 3rd stage again as the placenta is delivered & blood vessels close up much quicker, thus reducing the chance of hemorrhage. I would have loved to have a natural 3rd stage, but after much research, the knowledge of what my labours tend to be like (apart from the retained placenta, DD2's labour & birth wasn't much different from DD1) & weighing things up I'm going to go with the injection again this time.

My advise would be to keep an open mind & see how your labour & birth goes and if you do decide to go for a natural delivery of the placenta, make sure NO ONE touches the cord until your placenta is delivered, however long it takes. It is only if you have a managed 3rd stage that it can be gently pulled & from my experience even then it probably isn't as good an idea as they make it out to be...

Apologies for the long post & hope I haven't scared any of you too much. It was bad, but it couldn't have been that awful if I'm about to have my 3rd hey! Wink

Annie456 · 15/07/2011 03:51

Morning ladies...
Interesting reading about 3rd stage (I've not read your story yet littlemiss as it's the middle of the night and I'll never get back to sleep if I do!'). I've had most of my NCT classes and the teacher clearly had a preference for a natural 3rd stage and spent a lot of time talking about how quickly the cervix closes up once you've had the injection and how risky that is etc but when I spoke to a midwife in the hospital (when I went for monitoring) she said I'd be advised to have a managed 3rd stage because of low platelets and it really wasn't something to be worried about. I guess when my options are limited there's no point debating it too much!

NCT wasn't all bad and I've come away thinking I definitely want to labour in the birthing pool and possibly stay in there for delivery-I didn't know how much it can speed up labour being in water-and of course reduce the risk of a tear! I'll make sure I tell my MW when I see him next.

Had a strange 12 hours as we got home from NCT to find that we'd been burgled. It's never happened to me before and I feel totally shaken by it. Some friends have been burgled locally a few months ago and just 2 days ago I told DH that the reason I was struggling to sleep was because I didn't feel safe. He reassured me that we live on a busy street etc and I had 2 really good nights sleep...and now this! There were no broken windows and the police believe that they could have used something like a credit card (!) to force the lock on the front door which is terrifying. We've had extra locks put on the door this evening but I still feel too anxious to sleep-didn't help that the police man said "i dont mean to alarm you but you should expect to be targrted again in about 3 months once you've replaced everything". BRILLIANT!! I'll just look forward to that then.

Sorry for the moan and the long rambling middle-of-the-night post. I'm going to try to get some sleep before my LAST DAY AT WORK TOMORROW!!!!
Xxx

MrsVidic · 15/07/2011 06:16

Annie hope your ok, did they get lots/ cause lots of mess? This may sound weird but I would keep your posting your movements on fb (if you even use it) to a minimum just in case.
I work with exoffenders and the majority of the time (not trying to excuse anything just make you feel better) it isn't personal- eventhough the act itself is to the victim. It would literally be a money thing and they wouldn't think a out the family.
It is so violating though and please take it easy/ ask friends for help cleaning up etc

Firawla · 15/07/2011 09:48

oh Annie that is awful :( must be really upsetting. i hope they wont try it again in 3 months, or at all!

wishwales · 15/07/2011 10:06

mrsstevo She was born at 31+5 and new pics are posted :)

Thanks so much for all the support ladies. It has been a very long ride and we are so relieved she is absolutely thriving. You know everything you hear about sleep deprivation, forgetfulness, exhaustion with a newborn? It is all true times two but has already gotten easier after 5 days. And the joys are unlike anything else in the world.

KLou111 · 15/07/2011 12:34

Well, haven't been on for a few days as it kept saying mumsnet in performing maintenance, but see you lot got on, so very confused!! Loads to catch up on.

wishwales Morgan is gorgeous and so teeny tiny in that chair!!!

Rehune what a bloody idiot! Hope you are OK :)

Hope you are OK Annie and not too shaken up. I've never been through it but my in laws have a few times (mainly their garage which is usually full of booze). I hope they didn't take anything too valuable??

Well, had my 36 week check yesterday, everything fine. Went through my birth plan, and MW wrote all in my notes, but she did say sometimes it doesn't get read, so basically make sure it does!
All set for a water birth here, but she did say that it does depend on the MW as if they have no experience, whoever is on at the time, they won't let you go in. Fuck that, I'm going in!!!!! Grin
Am hoping I get this MW I've been seeing over the last few weeks, so does DH. She's really old school (I think she's late 50's) and is like how I would have imagined my mum was doing her job. She makes you feel really at ease, but at the same time firm IYSWIM.
AN class a LOT better this week. Was armed with sweets for DH and seemed to work, even though he's eaten half a packet of jelly babies before it even started! Is breastfeeding next time so don't think he'll bother coming.
I'm planning to BF, went through it with MW yesterday as I want to be out of hospital asap, but I would like to establish feeding first.
Bought a MAM breast pump off a shop on ebay the other day, and when it arrived the hygiene seal was broken. I emailed them as I wanted a sealed one, and they said I could be assured it was new, qand they were out of stock at the moment, so I could keep it and they gave me a full refund!!! How about that?!?! £35 back in the baby fund Grin

OP posts:
MrsStevo · 15/07/2011 13:43

wishwales - Gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS! Congratulations again. So pleased for you that she is home and thriving. Without meaning to sound self-centred (although I know I do) your story has given me so much hope that, even if my babies arrive now - at 34 +3, they stand a good chance of doing well.

Annie - you poor thing!!! How horrible! I have never been in your situation but other people I know who have had said that it just made them feel violated in a way because someone has been in their 'safe' home. So sorry you've had to go through this, especially at this point in your pregnancy. Hope you can claim on your insurance for anything they've taken.

Rehune - your boss sounds like a numpty. How is your bump today? Hope it / you have recovered and you're not too sore.

Firawla - sorry to hear you're having such a stress with your landlady. Hope it is sorting itself out and you can get back to concentrating on podging up your baby.

Very interested by all this 3rd-stage discussion. Since I'm having a CS I don't need to worry about it, but it is interesting to hear about the options.

Had my weekly scan this morning and all is looking ok with the Poddington Peas! Back again next week for the final growth scan. The countdown has commenced ..... 17 sleeps until they will be in my arms!!!! I could BURST with excitement!

Firawla · 15/07/2011 15:35

wishwales morgan is gorgeous! awww, great to hear she is doing so well

mrsstevo unfortunately think we are gna have to end up moving again in another 5 months, such a pain to have to resort to that but dh is really sure he just wants to use the 6 months break clause and go, as she is such a weirdo. so not looking forward to that! but oh well

klou nice one, ending up with it for free!

Rehune · 15/07/2011 17:10

wishwales awwwww so adorable! She really is!

Annie Hope you are ok? I keep having nightmares about that happening. How sucky of them! I know it's not personal but it is to the person it happens to!

Firawla It might be a pain and it IS to move but my god when you have a weirdo landlady (which I used to have) it's worth ALL the trouble in the world to get out. They only get weirder

Thanks for all your messages .. am feeling good today especially since i got a little speech and flowers and vouchers for my last day at work (i'm still here by the way!) Also HE went home early yday because of the shock!
