madkatz i dont really know much about maternity leave or pay or anything like that, but i was just looking through this months mother and baby magazine and there is an article in there about it. although it focuses more on the mothers that want to take the whole allowed time and what they can expect to be paid.

in the summary box it says ...'all employed women are now entitles to 52 weeks maternity leave. the first 6 weeks will be paid at 90% of your salary, the next 33 weeks at the standard rate (currently £128.73 per week) and the final 13 weeks unpaid.
under the government's proposals, from 2015 mothers will automatically receive the first 18 weeks of leave but parents then decide how to share the remaining 34 weeks.
when returning to work, you have a right to the same job and terms and conditions unless you employer can show its not practial for you to return to the same job, in that case you must be offered an alternative on the same pay'

phew!!!

but it doesnt sat about the amount of time, like if it can be a set time or just agreed with your bosses.

lizandlulu · 12/07/2011 20:42

klou he can be like that, he usually will always pull through if hes needed in an emergency, like alarm goes off at work or something, but lets you know for weeks after what a star he is!

that wall thing is lovely! i bought a poem one to go over the cot, but where i imagined it isnt where we have put the cot anyway, its gone on a different wall and i am slightly scared of putting the sticker on and it being wrong!

KLou111 · 12/07/2011 20:47

We went to put our sticker thing on the wall over the cot on Saturday, and it wouldn't stick! Now the nursery is in another room than the one we had plastered, there is wallpaper instead which we painted over, and it just kept ripping. I was gutted, so DH said we'll have to buy some boarding, paint it the same as the nursery and stick it to that, but some of the letter have paint now attached to them, so I think will have to try the pritt stick!!
Was so excited about it going up aswell, humph :(

I feel huge Liz lol! And I'm sure if you needed it chris would be there no matter if that tosser was off work or not. You are way more important than work. You could get chris to put your sticker up and of it's wrong you could always blame him lol!

Thanks klou. DP ordered them!! I was crying reading them too, won't be able to look at them when they are up in case I turn into an emotional wreck haha!! Just need to put them in frames. The bear that's on them is the same design as the rest of the nursery, bedding, Moses basket, curtains.
Awww I'm sure yours will look fab when you get it up, even if you do use pritt stick :)

Well I've just had a bath and put my pjs on. Feel nice and relaxed now. Just need to persuade DP to massage my swollen feet and ankles...

lizandlulu · 12/07/2011 21:19

i can sympaathise with the swollen feet, just this last week mine have come up no end. they look likep igs trottersSad better bloody go down after. i wanted to wear some nice sandals at the beginning of th week but none of mine fitted! i am stuck to my ratty sketchers or flip flops.

i have bought some arnicare gel for them but need to get chris to rub it on for me, i can actually still reach ,but its not the same is itGrin

melly ment to say about the numbness on my belly, the midwife said it was to do with the stretching and nerves being stretched, nothing to worry about. just feels very odd sometimes when i feel my belly.

right i am off to bed, no telly to keep me amused so will go and have a read of my book, i will check in tomorrow at some point, got to leave here at 3.30 to get to the hospital.

y'all keep your fingers crossed for meSmile

Iwish · 12/07/2011 21:25

It's just not nice. My pretty little sandals fit me when I leave for work but by the time I get home the straps are tight and feet/ankles are all puffy. Doesn't look or feel nice! DP is doing a rubbish Job at massaging, he's just occasionally stroking them Hmm
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and will be checking up tomorrow and to see how you got on.

I'm starving! I've had a bowl of pasta, a muffin for afters then a bowl or cereal and I want more!!

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 13/07/2011 05:54

Hey iwish the good thing about being pregnant is that you can eat as much as you want, whenever you feel hungry :o god i really miss being pregnant lol.

Really good luck for today liz i so hope it works for you! Got my fingers crossed here :)

Ok poppys just started crying, no idea why, she was feeding! Have to go, back later!

Iwish · 13/07/2011 08:16

melly I reckon I would be eating all day if I did lol. I'm always hungry. My poor colleagues. All they hear me say is 'I'm hungry.'
Hope you and poppy are both ok, apart from the crying while feeding lol :)

liz good luck again for today.

I'm off to see the midwife today. Have a lovely day all xx

lizandlulu · 13/07/2011 21:50

evening. well it didnt work. the consultant said its just too big to budge!

it wasnt nice, on a scale of one to ten, ten being real pain, it was about a 7. it really was like having a chinese burn on your belly. at one point there was a ladt trying to hold its bum out of my pelvis and the man using his whole forearms to try and get the top half to move. they tried 3 times but said it wasnt going to work. so i am booked in for a c section on the 28th which is 2 weeks tomorrow. providing i dont go into labour before then ltoehrwise i would have to have emergency c section.

however it doesnt hurt the baby though i have no idea. you spend your whole time being careful of your bump, worrying about damaging the baby, well if what they just did didnt damage the baby then nowt will!!! but i was monitored before and after and everything seemed ok. the monitor said i was having mild contractions but the midwife said they were just braxton hicks.

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 13/07/2011 22:26

Oh no liz, so sorry it didnt work. That sucks. I suppose one good thing is you know exactly when the baby will be here! Are you ok? X

Iwish · 14/07/2011 08:05

Oh no Liz that's rubbish! It doesnt sound like s particularly nice thing to have done! Hope you are ok?

Hey melly hope you are ok?

Well I went to the midwife yesterday. I told her that my crap GP said 'yeh it's SPD just do some pelvic floors' the look on her face said everything lol. She clearly thought he was a tit and she Is getting him to refer me to physio.

lizandlulu · 14/07/2011 09:52

morning ladeis, i feel proper crap. my belly is very tender from all the manhandling yesterday, got heartburn, backache and the shittest husband ever.

last night my back was killing so i asked him to rub it for 5 mins. his reply?? he cant cause his hands hurtHmm WTF!!!!! so i told him he shouldnt go racing at the weekend if his hands hurt and stormed off to bed.

i could burst into tears at any moment, just feel really unsupported. i dont need much support but when i am in pain i would expect the person who is ment to love me to be abit more sympathetic. he had a bunion operation for god sake and thought the world had ended.

Sad
Iwish · 14/07/2011 17:56

Oh Liz honey. He needs a good kick in the arse if you ask me! Can't believe he wouldn't give you a back rub! Do you think he have a change of heart when the baby arrives?

Well I've ended up ringing the antenatal clinic today because my foot and ankle are so swollen. They have been swelling for a while but the last few days my right foot has been quite swollen and the girls at work have convinced me to ring just in case. The midwife said I should see someone as swelling at 28 weeks is a little early?! Oh hell I'm a little freaked out now. She Is going to call my local midwife tomorrow and call me back.

lizandlulu · 14/07/2011 18:55

iwish he keeps saying that he will do more with this baby than he did with lulu. he is adamant about that, but i dont think he will be able to have any time off work, so he will have to do his share at night, what a shameGrin he says he wants the moses basket his side so he can get up with it, and hes been trying out the glider chair and recons he will feed it in there as its so comfy and as to not disturb me.Hmm

he came home from work earlier and said that we need to stop arguing about our parents as it causes too much hassle about things out of our control if you see what i mean. i personally think we argue about much more than our parents, but at least its a start of him recognising that things have got to change.

as for your swelling, i think its down to the weather, plus you are still working full time. its bound to happen, just hope its not too bad for you.

lizandlulu · 14/07/2011 20:34

i have had a dvd on the kitchen worktop that i got from the midwife a few weeks ago called from bump to breastfeeding which i thought would cover all aspects of birth and everything, but its all about breastfeeding which i am not going to do. am abit disappointed now. its going on alot about skin-to-skin contact.

are you all planning to do that?

melly did you get poppy put straight onto you?

i wont, i cant think of anything worse than a slimy bloody baby on me straight away, god does that make me sound cruel?Grin

i didnt do it with lulu either, it wasnt in my plan but they had to work on her anyway to get her to breathe so i wouldnt have been able to

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 14/07/2011 21:21

I really hope chris gets his act together by the time baby arrives. That doesnt sound horrible liz, i wanted poppy to be dried before i held her, i detest slimey things too :o But i was on all fours and they had to untangle her from the cord so by the time id turned over onto my back and got her she'd air-dried a lot. I was also wearing a white vest top, and whatever wet blood was left on her was wiped off onto my top lol. I had to bin my top, id only worn it a couple of times! So i did have skin to skin, but not immediately. Who is having lulu when you go in?

iwish are you doing anything for your feet to try and take the swelling down? I've heard keeping your feet up can help, and cold flannels.

lizandlulu · 14/07/2011 21:25

mum is having lulu from the thursday till the saturday afternoon when chris will finish work, then he will have her and all being well i should be able to come home on the sunday.

MadKatz · 14/07/2011 21:59

Evening Ladies,

So sorry the turning didn't work Liz, hope Chris gets his act together soon.

Saw the midwife today for my 28wk checkup. All ok just annoyed/upset that a water birth is out of the question because my BMI is too high. I need to lose over a stone in 6 weeks which is not going to happen Sad Booked in for Antenatal classes first 3 weeks of September.

Iwish my feet are really swollen too, I think most of its the heat. The only shoes I can get into now are my trekking sandals with adjustable straps - very fetching with my smart office trousers for work! And we have a wedding to go to next Friday and I have no shoes to wear! Went shopping tonight for some extra wide sandals. Managed to get 2 pairs which hopefully will do me for the rest of the summer now.

lizandlulu · 15/07/2011 10:31

ah thats a shame madkatz. i wanted a water birth tooSad so what the limit then? my bmi is 41 i think, i told the midwife before i needed the cesarian, that i wanted a try for a waterbirth and she never said anything about my weight.

KLou111 · 15/07/2011 12:17

Hi girls. Haven't been able to get on for a few days, it kept saying mumsnet is performing maintenance in this area, but I can see you lot got on so am not sure what was going on!!

Liz so sorry the turning didn't work, fingers well and truly crossed baby will move itself before it's time.
Giving Chris a kick up the arse seems to have helped a bit it he is going to be more proactive with this baby. He's gonna have no choice if you are having a c-section anyway.

Sorry about the swelling Iwish, and that you have to have it looked at, hope all goes OK with that.

And you Madkatz and sorry about you can't have a water birth. Not heard of that BMI thing before Hmm

Melly lol with slimy baby :)

Hope all OK Gruff

Well, had my 36 week check yesterday, everything fine. Went through my birth plan, and MW wrote all in my notes, but she did say sometimes it doesn't get read, so basically make sure it does!
All set for a water birth here, but she did say that it does depend on the MW as if they have no experience, whoever is on at the time, they won't let you go in. Fuck that, I'm going in!!!!! Grin
Am hoping I get this MW I've been seeing over the last few weeks, so does DH. She's really old school (I think she's late 50's) and is like how I would have imagined my mum was doing her job. She makes you feel really at ease, but at the same time firm IYSWIM.
AN class a LOT better this week. Was armed with sweets for DH and seemed to work, even though he's eaten half a packet of jelly babies before it even started! Is breastfeeding next time so don't think he'll bother coming.
I'm planning to BF, went through it with MW yesterday and I want to be out of hospital asap, but I would like to establish feeding first.
Bought a breast pump off a shop on ebay the other day, and when it arrived the hygiene seal was broken. I emailed them as I wanted a sealed one, and they said I could be assured it was new, and they were out of stock at the moment, so I could keep it and they gave me a full refund!!! How about that?!?! £35 back in the baby fund Grin

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 15/07/2011 12:36

Thats great klou! You are getting some fab bargains! I'm sure if you sterilize it it should be fine. The MW i had when i was in labour was like that, really nice and quite funny, but firm. She told us about the time her ex-h was so drunk he almost peed on their 2 day old DD after he'd been out to wet the babys head! Thats a shame about the waterbirth madkatz, it must be different rules for different areas. Mines 32 and my MW didnt say anything about it either when i said i wanted one.

KLou111 · 15/07/2011 12:39

Lol Melly that brings wetting the baby's head to a whooooooole new meaning!!
