Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
milliemuffin · 24/06/2011 07:12

I got woken up at 655 by DD playing upstairs. I've got reflexology at 12 then both DCs are staying at my mums from
3 til about the same time 2mrw so I'm really hoping something happens today. Fx for you and anyone else still waiting xx
Ps. Gonna be a heatwave Sunday/Monday so I really don't want to be in labour then!

neenewps · 24/06/2011 07:27

I'm still here sigh

Up early to try and get Olympic tickets again!

Had back ache through the night and the baby was fairly active then had really bad hiccups for what seemed like an age so I couldn't get to sleep. Was also incredibly emotional yesterday.... was trying to attribute all these things to 'signs' of labour but alas nothing!

Back to bouncing on the ball this morning then and then into the city later to see my friends newborn. Maybe a little cry from her will spur this little one into action :)

neenewps · 24/06/2011 07:27

ps millie I don't need to worry about heatwaves up here :o

curiouselle · 24/06/2011 07:29

neenewps your plans are the same as mine!!! lets hope all 3 of us make today the day! positive thinking folks :)

milliemuffin · 24/06/2011 07:47

Lol @ neenewps lack of hot weather Smile

Does anyone know if they'll do a sweep at 39+5 which is when my MW is due to visit? Got DSs 4th birthday in a few weeks plus loads of end of school term activities so I really really want baby out sooner rather than later.

HalleLouja · 24/06/2011 08:16

Anyone else feel like they are feeding every 2 hourly. Sometimes I make it to 3 but doesn't feel that often. Dd wakes before and won't settle without a feed. She only hit her due date the Tuesday just gone but am sure it wasn't this relentless with ds who was 6 weeks premmie.

Me me me post.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 24/06/2011 08:18

Waves Good Morning to the early morning crew.

Someone plese tell me that my persistent period like, but not period like discomfort is cervix shortening pain!

curiouselle · 24/06/2011 08:25

that's what the midwife told me yesterday confessions! so lets hope :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 24/06/2011 08:36

Thank you Curious, Just what I wanted to hear Grin

LisasCat · 24/06/2011 08:37

millie I asked for a sweep yesterday which was my due date, but MW said she wouldn't unless I really really wanted it. She just felt none of the signs were that it would work, it would just give me a night of contractions and no sleep, get my hopes up and then probably turn out to be nothing, leaving me even more frustrated and exhausted. But she has said that if I'm still going nuts on Sunday, she's on duty in the MLU and I can pop in and maybe she'll do one then. She just kept stressing that the whole labour will be better if it's started of its own accord rather than being forced, so I guess I can't argue really (although I wanted to).

takethatlady · 24/06/2011 09:02

Glad to see you're all symptom spotting like me. Sounds hopeful for a couple of you. No hope here since the show. Just a nosebleed :(

Kids at school, baby fed. Hello computer...I've missed you!

Much catching up to do, but congratulations to everyone who's had a baby in the last few days, and "come on"!! to the rest of you...we're running out of June!

Well, I think I kept you fairly well updated until tuesday! So, here's the rest of it.

In case anyone missed it, I had a condition called polyhydramnios. Too much amniotic fluid. Way too much. There are several things that can cause it, problems with mother, or baby. However, both me and baby are fine, so I was one of the very rare cases with no actual cause. Because of all the water the babys head can't engage properly, so when the waters go the cord can fall through the cervix, or the placenta can be ripped away. Either way, it could be nasty.

The plan was, to break my waters in a controlled manner, with the surgical team on standby (first idea was to actually do it in the operating theatre) so I could be operated on immediately if there was a problem. If my waters broke themselves we were told to use the emergency bell in the room. It sets of a siren and everyone in the department has to come running.

So, we get to Tuesday. I'd been told that I'd be taken down to delivery at about 6am.
I woke a couple of times in the night with niggly back pains, and finally gave up trying to sleep around 5.30 as it was starting to get noisy on the ward. After my monumental tantrum on monday night (salad-gate) they had agreed to leave me alone and forget the routine checks for a while so I could have a bit of peace. When DH turned up at 9 I sent him off to find out what was happening. The twinges were a bit more often by then. They were, again busy and would "get back to me", but by about 10.30 I was convinced that the time was coming and sent DH to find me a midwife. I managed to convince her to part with a couple of painkillers. At about 1.30 the contractions were coming thick and fast. I was sat on a small chair leaning on my bed and I felt the trickle. Oh heck! As I stood up more came out...PUSH THE BUTTON!!!!

The siren started wailing and about 10 people burst into my room and bundled me onto the bed. All but 2 left, and they examined me (Oooh...said one...we've got a gusher...) and said I was 5-6cms dilated. Luckily it was my hind waters that had gone, not the front ones.

I got down to delivery just after 2. Pain wasn't too bad although it wasn't long before I was using the gas and air on contractions (Just because it was there really...I like it). The midwife was in and out consulting with the doctors. She wanted to break the membrane, but they wouldn't let her. As the normal baby monitors didn't work well on me because of the fluid, they wanted to attach one to babys head, but without breaking the membrane they couldn't, so there was some umming and ahhing over that.

Suddenly the pain ramped up. Despite asking for pethidine, (actually I asked for everything they could throw at me) it was suddenly too late. I went from 7cms to "Push when you're ready" in minutes. Apparently I'd been pushing for a few minutes, and the midwife said "it'll be done in less than 20 minutes" my reply was "I'm not doing this for another 20 fucking minutes" and a couple of shoves later at 3.45pm baby, and a tanker full of water flew out.

No joke...the bed was about 2 inches deep in places! It was like waterfalls over the edges. I was drenched, the midwives were drenched, the doctor who had appeared at the last minute was drenched...!

Baby was basically fine, although he was quite floppy. Heart and breathing were ok so they weren't too worried. Another thing put down to the water, but within about 20 minutes he was tucking into a bottle and I'd rung the family with the news.

I got to shower and we were back on the ward by 7pm.

Next day the paediatrician came up. She reckons Travis has a large head, then looked at DH. "you have a big head" she said and asked to measure it. Turns out that DH's head is 66cms. The average is 55!! So, nothing to worry about there then!

Only problem then was getting discharged. It took til almost 5pm to get someone to discharge us, they are so busy and understaffed.

So, now I'm off to inject myself in the leg with anti-coagulants and then change into an indecently low cut top and walk round town, showing off the massive new boobs I woke up with this morning!

takethatlady · 24/06/2011 09:55

Congratulations almighty, sounds like you were a trooper! Really glad the polyhydramnios had no cause and that all of you are well. Really though, you should have checked the head size of your man before you agreed to have a baby with him Grin

Happy due date supersunny :)

sasamaxx · 24/06/2011 10:09

Checking in for news of Nurse or Jasmine or anyone else for that matter Smile

takethatlady · 24/06/2011 10:37

Argh. At my 39 week appt on Tuesday the midwife said I would need a 40 week and a 41 week appt if I go over my due date (which is on Sunday), but couldn't find me an appointment anywhere in the area for either of those weeks. Next available appointment is when I'm 42+2. (You might remember me posting about this.)

She said she'd call me on Wednesday to arrange an appointment for me. Had a hunch she wouldn't - she didn't. Nor yesterday. Have just spent the last hour leaving messages with the midwifery team I'm assigned to, the hospital, the community midwife manager, her secretaries, and my GP. Nobody answers their phone (I am sick of hearing voicemails that say I'm calling out of hours because it's not 9-5 Monday to Friday - it is!). All the answerphones say not to leave a message, but since I can't get through I've left messages everywhere anyway.

I know it's no issue, I'll probably have the baby before it matters anyway, and I'm fit and healthy and have no complications, so there's nothing to worry about. But it does make you feel a bit shaky to feel there's absolutely no point of contact as you go over your due date. Grrr....

Clarkiee · 24/06/2011 11:52

halleloujah hope the feeding cal ms down soon. Bet your dc who was prem got into a routine in hospital like my two.

DHs big head made me chuckle almighty glad little travis is doing well.

This message has taken me ages to write cause I am breastfeeding both babies the laptop is on the floor and i am typing with my toes!!!!!
phew

neenewps · 24/06/2011 11:53

ttl I wouldn't be happy about that at all. It's great that you are in good health but you really need to feel the support of the midwifery team as and when is necessary. I'm Angry for you.

almighty sounds like you managed really well. And just on a salad??!!! Did you know that the circumference of your head equals to a third of your height!!!

curiouselle · 24/06/2011 12:05

almighty the best part of that story was definitely the part about your DH's large head! Glad everything worked out ok in the end :)

ttl you must feel very frustrated, I can't believe you can't get through to the hospital that's pathetic - have you tried calling the assessment unit, they have to answer the phone and maybe can put you in direct contact with someone?!

clarkiee that is the most impressive post yet - whilst breast feeding, not one but 2 babies - and with your feet! WOW Grin

I am keeping busy to avoid getting low about still being pregnant - I need to find some perspective... it's not in the dishes, it's not on the newly sprinkled lawn, it's not in my hospital bag which has been checked, it's not in the plant I have repotted, or the basil I repotted, maybe it's in pasta bake Wink

crazychic141187 · 24/06/2011 12:18

Got to take Maisie back to the hospital today coz she is going a bit yellow Sad. She has also lost 7.4% of her weight so she needs to be checked out on that tomorrow too!

Had a bad night with her last night! She seems to think 12 till 4 is play time Grrrr!!!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 24/06/2011 13:10

Pant snot, symptom spotting, mucho shagging, we just need some Gu and it's like TTC all over again! Grin (only with huge bellys)

confessions I totally agree this time really reminds me of TTC!! Grin

crazy oh dear poor Maisie, I hope that they find some easily fixable thing that has been affecting her and you ar home again quickly!

DH seems to think he needs to fix me feeling low about being overdue, although I have been out every day this week - he believes I am a hermit, and although I have just done the gardening - he thinks I just sit in corners. He has just suggested that I go for a walk to the local nature reserve by myself when I am am 40+3 where I am away from people and houses and cars can't get access. I am sure if waters went or contractions started I could walk home easy but it seems like a daft thing to do - or am I being a wuz? Regardless I am not going!

takethatlady · 24/06/2011 13:36

. Well, you've gotta get your kicks somewhere ...

In awe of clarkiee and her toe-typing. You should go on Britain's Got Talent next year, bfing the twins and typing with your toes. Now THAT's something they've never had on there before Grin

crazy I hope Maisie is okay and that you get some rest soon!

Thanks for the Angry ladies. Finally got through to someone by ringing PALS, who spoke to the community midwife manager, who spoke to the clinic, who told the manager they'd never had a message from me, so that the manager told the PALS lady to tell me that I don't need a 40 week appointment anyway and to keep trying the clinic if I'm really desperate for one! Ludicrous.

Grin coaaf this is just like ttcing! This time a year ago I thought I was pregnant because I tampered with an internet test and managed to produce a pink line Blush Grin. I know because on 26th June I went to Newmarket races for my birthday, realised I wasn't actually pregnant, and got very very very sloshed and won £36. How different this year will be!!!

takethatlady · 24/06/2011 13:37

Grin and cross-post curious. I DO just sit in corners Grin. I'm with your DH: I say go as far from help as possible and sod's law will definitely bring all the contractions on :)
