Pubic hair Grin. Freudian slip there Grin

BarbieLovesKen · 23/06/2011 11:26

I haven't quite caught up yet so apologies if I'm ignoring anything, just wanted to pop in (although its probably too late now) to let nurse know that I'm thinking of you today and can't wait for the announcement of jasmines arrival.

Just scanned and seen 8s announcement, Grin massive congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

Kate has just slotted into the family perfectly, she just eats and sleeps and noses about, she's over 10lbs now, is really alert and already lifts her head up when lying down to look about.

I will catch up soon, sorry if I've been missing all the news but things are a bit hectic here- am literally on my deft from early morn until late each night trying to keep on top of house work etc - transition from 2 - 3 kids is a bit of a shock!! dh is away from tomorrow until Sunday night so not looking forward to that!

takethatlady · 23/06/2011 11:28

Awwww barbie don't worry about catching up - you've got enough on your hands! Lovely to hear that Kate is doing so well :) :) :)

sasamaxx · 23/06/2011 11:44

Barbie did no one tell you that housework is actually illegal until baby is 3 mths old?

I know Confessions - can't imagine how many poor babies have gone through this because of her highly intelligent and very important fingers Angry

MOSP that's great about Percy and fab line from your DH Grin

TTL I agree with the rest - don't be bullied - birth partners are YOUR choice only and everyone should respect that.

moomin156 · 23/06/2011 12:07

just a quick update from me......seen HV today amd she thinks Flo has reflux as showing some classic signs. will get pick up precription for baby gaviscon later today. Had second lot of jabs ( i cried) and she weighs 7lb 8oz Grin

Congratulations to new moms....good luck nurse and anyone else waiting today.

BarbieLovesKen · 23/06/2011 12:23

7lbs 8??? Wow moomin, that's great. Ooh jabs - at least that's the second lit over with, hope you're ok now - know how you feel, I sobbed through heel prick. Have bcg tomorrow and am dreading it, then 2 week check with gp on Monday - more prodding and poking.

Thanks ttl Smile

Folks, any advice what to do with Kate? She's asleep in a wee cradle we have in the sitting room for day time - I always put her on her back but she continuously rolls completely on to her side, she's obviously more comfortable this way, it's not so bad during the day as I can keep putting her back but am worried about night time, she's only 10 days old and I'm obviously anxious to follow SIDS prevention guidelines - anyone else had this problem?

takethatlady · 23/06/2011 12:36

Congratulations on Florence's weight moomin :) Hope the baby Gaviscon works :)

barbie I don't know but the NCT teacher said that lots of babies really hate being on their backs because they feel exposed, and that the greatest risks for SIDS are smoking, too many blankets, etc. She basically said that if your baby won't sleep on its back it won't sleep on its back, and that if you're following all the other guidelines not to worry about it. I don't know what more experienced mums than me think of this, but I'm sure she'll be fine.

Well done baby Flo looks like she is growing fast.

Barbie I use on of those movement monitors if I put DD on her front. Also, she can roll on her side already so do put her on her side too. I read on an NHS site that side is not a big deal - if they can roll themselves then no need to move them.

crazychic141187 · 23/06/2011 12:56

Hi all,

Been wrapped up in the world of cuteness and cuddles so havent had chance to sit down and write my birth story so here goes:

We went to the hospital at 10am on Monday morning in order to get checked out for the induction to happen. Got put into my own room and the midwife came in around 10.45 to check if my cervix had opened at all after not being open at all on thursday for my sweep. Good news as the midwife told me I was two centimetres which was unexpected and I wouldn't need the pessary to be put in! She then told us that I should be able to have my waters broken and it was just a case of waiting for a room on the labour ward. She also told me that I would need to stay in the hospital seeing as I was term + 13 and things might not get moving until Tuesday depending on how busy the hospital was.

So we waited around in the room for a bit and I had my obs taken at 12.30 to be told that everything was fine and lunch was on the way. Had my lunch and my and DP thought we would go for a walk around the park across the road for something to do. We got back into the hospital at around half 3 and started to wait. My mum called to see if she could visit so DP went home at around 6 and she came to visit me at half 7 with my sister. DP came back and we sat around talking for a bit. Mum and sister went home and told me to keep them updated. We went back upto my room and DP had been told that he had to leave at 9. A new midwife came in and told us to get some rest as it probably wouldn't be until the early morning at least when I would get taken down onto labour ward. DP set off to go get some sleep and left me to try and settle down.

DP left the room at 9.06 and at 9.15 the midwife came in saying "o no has he gone? you are going down to labour ward now!" So i phoned him up hoping to catch him before he got into the car. Luckily he hadn't set off so I told him to hike back up to meet us downstairs. We met up and got taken into the consultant let delivery suite and met the midwives who were going to be taking care of me. I had a consultant and a student midwife in the room with me and I asked for my case loading student to be contacted so that she would be able to come in for the birth.

I had my waters broken at 10.10 and was told that I would need to be monitored for an hour to see if my contractions would get any stronger. If they didn't I would need the drip putting in. Seeing as my BH were feeling quite tight, they were measuring on the monitor at 3 every 10 mins but I was having no pains.

At 11.10 I was examined again to find I was 3 centimeters and my contractions were getting a little bit more intense. This was good so I was told i would be monitored again at 2.10 and I should try and keep moving around. I was hooked onto the monitor for most of the time so it was hard to get out of bed but I was getting so uncomfy. I had to be hooked up as they were finding it really hard to keep the babies heart beat on the monitor. She was really sleepy and it wasn't as fast as they would have liked it to be.

The contractions started to get a bit more intense and I was offered gas and air. I didn't really want to have it because I thought I was wimping out by choosing to have pain relief so early on. But the midwife said it was normal and I was doing exceptionally well already seeing as I had been induced. So i thought why not give the G&A a try. It went straight to my head and made me feel funny but it helped with the pain. I decided that it was my new best friend.

The midwife asked if I would like to have a bath and I could take my G&A with me so I said ok I will. Got into the bath and it helped a little bit (mainly made me feel clean after having waters broken). Didn't stay in their long as the contractions were getting stronger so I headed back onto the bed and got hooked back onto the machine. My contractions were stronger and i was getting 3 - 4 every 10 mins.

At 2.10 I was hoping that I was progressing but had a feeling that nothing was moving on. Luckily I was 5cm when examined and it was moving really fast. My student midwife got called and was told to come in so she could help look after me. I dont really remember much more after that seeing as the G&A was really having an effect. I do remember thinking that I couldn't cope with the pain and I wanted some pethadine. The consultant midwife came in and told me seeing as baby was already so sleepy it wasn't the best time for me to have the pethadine! I called her mean!

Things get very hazy from here on and all I know is what I have been told. Apparently the G&A was sending me a bit loopy and I told the midwives I thought they were at a cooker, started singing a nursery rhyme to DP (This is the house that Jack built) and I was having a conversation with myself about a maths exam that needed photocopying and the people who I needed it for! Can't remember any of this myself but apparently it was quite funny to watch!

As it got closer to half 6 (when I would be next examined) I drifted in and out of sleep inbetween my contractions and to me i was in and out of consciousness as I really dont remember anything!

Half 6 came and I was nearly at 10 cms so it was nearly time to start pushing. All three midwives were in the room and I was told that I should only push when they told me to - not when I wanted (which was now as it helped the pain!). I wasn't doing as I was told so the consultant midwife took the G&A off me and told me I wasn't allowed it any more - I was very upset that I had lost my friend! I remember getting really hot and DP had to cool me down with a cold towel!

The pushing stage lasted an hour and I got to feel her head coming out as I thought nothing was moving along. At 7.25 Maisie was born and DP cut the very large cord and she was put straight onto my chest. The placenta was delivered normally and everything was fine. I was examined and didn't need stitches just had a couple of grazes that should heal within a couple of days.

Maisie went straight for my boobs and started to feel straight away and was on for a good hour at least. She got cleaned up while I went in the bath and she cuddled up with DP and nodded off to sleep.

We got moved up onto the post natal ward at 10.30 and I slept for about half an hour. Not wanting to stay on the ward for long, when the midwife asked how long we wanted to stay for we asked if we would be able to go home asap. She said as long as breastfeeding was established and everything was fine we should be home that same day.

2pm and we were allowed to go home so within only 7 hours of giving birth I was wrapping her up and taking my little baby home! I was amazed (and so were the midwives) at the speed of delivery and at how fast I was allowed home.

She has been sleeping loads and I'm just a little concerned that she appears to only have had one wet nappy so far but I'm going to bring that up with the midwife this afternoon!

I'm so happy that the waiting is over and I have this wonderful little baby that is totally dependant on me!!

Sorry that the post is so long but I wanted to remember everything!!

jasmine51 · 23/06/2011 14:45

Sorry I can't catch up on posts as on phone but general congrats to those who have produced, energetic vibes to those in labour and hang in there vibes to those still waiting.
Update - no labour as a result of waters breaking so at 24 hour mark am now very reluctantly consenting to induction. 2nd sweep failed, ARM didn't produce anything else so run out of options. Bub is far too cosy in there and much as I want to give him all the time in the world I think he needs a nudge now.
Have tried everything there is to try in hosp room as far as entertainment goes and we are now onto 3rd DVD.
Will update nearer xmas when things might have moved on.

By the way, for those still worried about labour, the effect of adrenaline on pain is quite startling. When I have been relaxing I have felt nothing yet as soon as the white coats appear I instantly start cramping even though contractions are no stronger. Lesson to bear in mind.
Take care everyone x

curiouselle · 23/06/2011 14:58

A quick post from me also - congratulations to new babies (am not at jealous Envy, or going crazy with waiting!!!!) thank you for your story crazy they have all be lovely to hear, and we must learn so much as they are all different, helps me to relax reading them in a way.
barbie glad Kate is doing well, I have no experience so can't advise on the sleeping, but imagine if she is comfortable like that and has the mobility to turn then she probably is safer where she is less likely to wriggle around?!

My friend I mentioned earlier whos waters broke 4 weeks early and has OC had her baby at 11.45 and he was 5lb3 and both are well and healthy. Which means I can stop worrying and hopefully sleep better tonight - currently feeling slightly drugged :)

Had MW app this morning, LO is right position now hurrah, however only 3/5 engaged, she attempted sweep but cervix was still 'long'??? Can people tell me that this doesn't mean a long wait and it could all still happen immediately please!!!!!???? Shock

BarbieLovesKen · 23/06/2011 15:21

Ttl, Halle and curious, thanx a million for that - I already feel much better, you'd think I'd have this whole thing nailed by now, being number 3 but each are so so different.

Crazy, you birth story sounds really lovely, glad you had such a good experience.

Jasmine, sorry to hear you may have to be induced after all, but yay to having baby jasmine very soon Smile

Curious, obviously not the best example but mw told me my cervix was extremely long, very far back and no where near labour stage.... Kate was in my arms 2 hours later Smile

curiouselle · 23/06/2011 15:42

barbie that is the best thing I have heard all day!!!! :) I now love you!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/06/2011 16:16

MOSP - good news about Percy!! And I like your DH's style Grin

Newneeps - a sweep won't work unless you have started to dilate so perhaps you sensed you weren't ready for it?

Barbie - lovely to hear Kate is doing so well! DS slept on his side for the first few weeks, I just used a rolled up towel to support him slightly on his back. DD is similar. Eventually DS got used to sleeping on his back and DD is now sleeping mainly on her back. It is the tummy sleeping that is best to be avoided. It is more important that she is sleeping near you as hearing you breathe will help regulate her breathing.

Moomin - great to hear Flo is doing okay though sorry she is still colicky, hopefully the gaviscon will help!

Crazy - thanks for sharing your birth story! Hmm at the MWs taking the G&A off you at the pushing stage, same happened with DS! However they didn't when I pushed DD but I found I was too busy moaning to suck on it effectively anyway!!

Jasmine Grin @ "will update nearer xmas" I am glad you are still managing to keep your spirits up! I hope this lo won't make you wait much longer though!

Couriselle - I think DD's head didn't full engage until the day I had her! So don't worry too much about that. Congrats to your friend as well! Also I kept being told my cervix was very posterior, which I think amounts to the same thing?

Anyway some tips for you first timers.

MWs recommend you don't put any smellies in the bath after you give birth, with the exception of Badedas - have had 2 MWs recommend it.

Also get some olive oil (if you haven't got any in already) as you can use that to massage into baby's skin, it tends to get a bit dry and flaky and not only is the massage itself very soothing (it can also help with windy babies) but it doesn't matter if they suck it off their hands!

Lastly Witch Hazel is lovely and soothing if you put it on your pad, helps take away any stinging you may have after the birth.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/06/2011 17:55

Sigh. That's how I'm feeling after the MW today. Not sure why really. I declined a sweep, BP, protein levels, heart beat etc are all fine. Even the increase in SPD pain is a positive thing! Baby is now in the rim of the pelvis (so 1/5). am booked in for another MW check on Tuesday and if nothing doinng by the end of next week induction next Friday at 40+13. I think I'm just Sigh at the thought of making it all the way to induction day. I have decided if I make it to the next MW appt I'll opt for a sweep, all being favorable. In the mean time, lots of sitting like a first fifteen player posing for a photo, walking on uneven ground and eating what I damn well feel like.

Right now now my 'rant' is over I shall stir dinner, then try to concentrate enough to catch up on the day.

Though, MOSP good news about Precy's feet.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/06/2011 18:22

Barbie, put the housework down and go have a rest! Sounds like Kate's doing really well.

TTL Shock and Shock at your Mum!!! You poor thing. Definately keep her away from you when you go into labour, and make sure the MWs know she's not allowed in should she just turn up.

Hope things happen for you soon Jasmine and wonder how Nurse is getting on.

Moomin good work on Flo's weight gain. Hope the gaviscon helps with the reflux. DS was a very sicky uppy baby but put weight on at a great rate, so it was never an issue (just means we have a lot of pics with 'bird poo' on his chin Grin)

Thornykate · 23/06/2011 21:56

Just marking place, sorry but have completely lost what's happening on here & feel v detached from here in not knowing who's given birth etc, will catch up tomorrow, in the meantime hope Jasmine & nurse ok as I think I'm right that u r both being induced? Hope everyone else & their babies (in & out of bumps!) are well x

motherofsnortpigs · 23/06/2011 22:28

Thanks sasa I'll check back at their site soon.

curiouselle · 24/06/2011 02:48

I'm getting tightening feeling (like I've done too many sit ups) across belly and some lower back pain that comes and goes. Have I overdone ball bouncing today or could this be gentle beginning of contractions? It's noticably uncomfortable but not painful. Maybe it's wishful thinking...

milliemuffin · 24/06/2011 03:40

Morning curiouselle! I've just come downstairs for exactly the same reason. Been getting strong uncomfortable BH for the last hour, couldn't sleep so thought I might aswell get up and maybe snooze down here if nothing happens. How you feeling now? Xx

milliemuffin · 24/06/2011 03:55

Typical! Baby is happily wriggling around but that's all that's happened since I came down. Time for a snooze. Hope you're having more luck xx

curiouselle · 24/06/2011 06:53

morning millie fell asleep at half 3 till now, still feeling achey. haven't yet got up as don't want to realise it's nothing when I want it to be something! Wishful thinking fingers crossed for us both!!!! :)
