Yayyyyy to plug loss ttl :o

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 16:53

Oh just saw your post TTL!!! I know the show doesn't mean baby will arrive right away nessecarily, but I still think you'll go before me.

I've woken up from a nap with a lot of fanjo discomfort. Sadly I think it has more to do with my leaving the house for a mini food shop, rather than baby getting ready. . At least I have pie for dinner.

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 17:02

Mmmmm pie. And yay for contractions neenewps :)

x-post again. neenewps contractions sound promising. (me Envy? yup)

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 17:24

mummy don't worry - the plug doesn't mean much regarding how long it will be before labour, and nor, I have been assured, does how engaged the baby is. My lazy LO is only engaged 1/5th Grin and is back to back.

The first lady from my antenatal classes had her LO on Sunday, I've just learned. She was due on 1st July, I think, so I am very jealous! But she's lovely and I'm sure her LO is gorgeous too, so I can't hold a grudge :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 17:26

Why is DH talking at to me? I'm trying to MN here!

TTL great idea - think i will stick my fingers in her mouth Grin
Ooohhhhh IIRC after I had a show, it was less than 24 hours before labour started - don't want to get your hopes up or anything though.

FX neenewps

What sort of pain are you having confessions?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 17:39

Not sure as I'm still lying down , think it's more SPD than anything , def not contractions. Think I shall have to have a spell on the ball later.

LisasCat · 22/06/2011 17:45

mummyofprawn the only disadvantage I could think of from my POV is that an induction would mean I can't go to the MLU and instead have to go into hospital, which is an hour's round trip for DP & DD rather than 5 minutes up the road. Otherwise, I can't see a problem.

curiouselle as for how others are coping with waiting (and I'm not even overdue yet), I am going slightly bonkers, but nowhere need as bad as I was last time. DD was 2 weeks late, and by the end I was saying some really unkind things to the bump, because I was absolutely climbing the walls. So this time I'm making sure I relax a bit more and focus on the nice time I'm getting to spend with DD, as well as the little garden jobs I've not had time for while I was still at work.

8rubberduckies · 22/06/2011 18:05

Very quick post to let you all know RUby Olive arrived at 1.05am last night after a rather speedy two hour labour. She is incredible but has had breathing problems. Will update when i can...

jasmine51 · 22/06/2011 18:18

Yay 8 well done, get well quickly Ruby

OK ladies, I need some serious 'baby out' vibes please. Waters went at 4.30 this pm. Have just been up the MLU, everything fine and they have said if I go into proper labour tonight to just head back there. Otherwise I'm at the big hosp at 8am for IV abs...and will be their prisoner, attached to drips and stuff. So, nothing I would call a contraction yet, just vaguely uncomfy tightenings, please send me some contractions....oh and some cheese on toast Grin x

PerpetualProvocateur · 22/06/2011 19:10

Mummyofprawn, it really depends on what kind of birth you were hoping for. The reason I am opposed to being induced with drugs unless medically necessary is because starting things off that way often seems to result in a chain reaction of needing other drugs and interventions, as the natural hormonal reactions which would normally help you through labour don't get the chance to develop. There do seem to be people who can cope with maybe just gas and air if the prostaglandin gel works on its own, but I haven't come across any cases of people being induced with syntocinon who didn't need other drugs or interventions. I think it has something to do with jumping immediately into the deepest, most intense contractions without having the chance to gradually develop into them as you would naturally. There is also a greater risk of foetal distress and other complications, like uterine rupture, with the use of syntocinon for induction.

I am hoping for as natural of a birth (maybe with some gas and air) at home, so I don't want to kick things off with drugs, although I will be open to a sweep if I make it to my 41-week appointment on Saturday.

PerpetualProvocateur · 22/06/2011 19:12

Congratulations 8RD and welcome to the world Ruby! I hope she recovers from her breathing problems quickly.

How exciting Jasmine! Wishing you a speedy and comfortable labour!

HalleLouja · 22/06/2011 19:14

Congratulations 8rd. Hopefully ruby is home soon. Bless how far we have come from the other thread..

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 19:21

Congratulations to 8rd, MrRubberDuckies and baby Ruby :) 2 hours Shock!!! That must have been a surprise!

jasmine very very exciting!!! Come ON contractions :) And for you coaaf :)

Oooh sasa don't get my hopes up :) Google has revealed to me that it be up to 3 weeks from the plug going, so I'm just being thankful for a little sign. Good luck antagonising your SIL Grin

No call from midwife team today, despite assurances ... there's a drop-in clinic at a local Sure Start centre so if I'm still unable to get an appointment by Wednesday (and if I still need one - I'll be 40+3), then I'll just go there.

jasmine51 · 22/06/2011 19:25

mummyofprawn exactly what Perpetual said. Once the induction process is started the tendency seems to be a chain reaction of interventions based on a set timeline. That of course is fine if you are comfortable with that route and are prepared for it, or are prepared enough to challenge it.
For me, and it is a very personal choice, it seems important to try not to get on that conveyor in the first place...and being hours away now from possibly being 'hurried up' I am rehearsing with dh what is likely to happen and how to ask for more time to discuss our options, or just ask for more time. I have one fear in labour as you might have gathered and that is being dictated to.
I would emphasise again though that everyone is different and everyones choices should be respected.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 19:42

OHH! It's an exciting afternoon/evening around here.

Huge congratulations 8RD and hello to wee Ruby. Hope her breathing comes right and you get to go home for lots of lovely duckie snuggles Grin

Come on baby boy Jasmine. I don't normally wish pain on people, but in this case it's for the best Grin

My pain is definately only SPD. Sigh.

neenewps · 22/06/2011 20:00

Congratulations 8RD You beat me to it :) And what a good baby Ruby is arriving smack bang on time. I hope the breathing problems are quickly sorted and you get to go home very soon.

Go jasmine, go jasmine

sasamaxx · 22/06/2011 20:21

Oh congrats 8rubberduckies hope Ruby gets well soon.
So exciting jasmine - sending labour vibes.
perpetual provocateur I would agree with that. I was induced with sintocinon for ds's birth and I needed morphine .

Congratulations 8RD and get well soon little Ruby :)

Good luck Jasmine, hope things really kick off soon

Mummyofprawn - I was planning a totally natural home waterbirth and am now going to have to be induced - tomorrow! EEK!
As others have said, if you're going to be induced the chances of needing extra intervention (epidural, forceps/ventouse, c-sec) are much higher than with natural labour. Which is obviosuly fine if you would plan on having an epidural anyway but some people feel very strongly that they don't want this so would feel very upset if they had to. C-sections are a risk as the strength of the contractions after being put on the syntocin drip can cause foetal distress which can then require an emergency c-sec.

I was panicking BIG time about being induced (I basically had it in my head that I was going to die for some reason :( ) because all the stories I'd heard about being induced were horror stories. However, I think, like most things, people are all too ready to tell you about their bad experiences and don't think to mention the good ones. So I googled " positive induction stories for a bit of balance and am feeling much calmer now :)

Basically I think it's like natural labour in that everyone's will be different. Some people will be able to deal with it with just gas and air whereas some will find it too much to bear and need an epidural.

My advice is to do your research, remember this is a medical procedure and as such will carry it's own risks. However, if your medical/mental reasons for having it outweigh those risks then it might be worth thinking about. Have you got a good midwife you can speak to about it?

Congratulations 8rubber love the name choices Smile.

moomin sorry to hear little Florence is having trouble with wind- does the neo natal nurse still visit you (she comes out to see us about once a week) because sure she'd beable to reasure you. 5oz still sound like a decent weight gain to me.

sasa why would you SIL keep doing that not suprised you're mad Angry

very exciting to hear all the labour related activities- that waiting list will be gone before we know it x

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/06/2011 20:42

TTL - am annoyed on your behalf that you have had your MW arbitrarily changed, especially so late on!!

Citizen - I had engorged breasts with DS, what worked for me was to hand express a little milk to soften the breast, basically make a c shape with your hand with your thumb above the breast and the other 4 fingers below and then gently squeeze towards the aerolae, holding for 3 seconds and repeat until milk starts to flow. Cabbage leaves are also good for relief, as are warm flannels before a feed.

TTL/Newneeps - do talk to your MWs if you have any concerns about movements they would rather you let them know so they can put your mind at rest.

Millie - sorry to hear you are so worried about the tears you have and that your DH has not been very helpful. Have you talked over your concerns with your MWs? Have you been offered any suggestions about reducing the risk of further tears?

Moomin - DS was quite a sicky baby and his weight gain was always very variable - he was quite a windy baby too. As long as she is still following her centile line she should be fine. No experience on the cranial osteopathy but have heard others speak highly of it for helping windy/colicky babies.

Sassa - grrr at your sister, stupid woman!! Best get yourself treated as well if you are bfing as you can pass thush between you both. Poor Celeste! Her weight gain is fantastic!!

Couriselle - hope your friend has a safe delivery :)

8rd - congrats on the safe arrival of Ruby!! Hope she gets her breathing problems sorted asap, how worrying for you.

Jasmine - labour vibes heading your way!!

Did my first public nursing in Toys R Us today. Bfing 2nd time around is a much more relaxed affair than with DS, I guess because I have done it before!
DS and DD have been thoroughly spoiled today, Nanny bought DS some more kit for his wooden trainset, and DD some clothes. My uncle and my DB gave me some money as well for DD which has been used for some baby toys, and my uncle also given me some money for DS which has been spent on a bubble gun - which is a big hit Grin I also got more clothes from my cousin as well! My other DB has promised to give me some money to get something next time we go and visit my mum.
