I think the key is to not commit to anything, but be open to possibilities! I missed a friend's wedding which was 4 weeks after ds's due date, because he was late and I had a long recovery period. I may end up spending that whole week in bed, or I may be raring to go! Smile

moomin156 · 06/06/2011 20:32

Hi All.......Congrats to Sassa., at last another baby. Good luck to those with possible labours, its all so exciting.
Well today was flo's due date.............can you believe it, instead i have a beautiful 11week old. Grin
on the social side........i am managing to do quite a lot. It takes a bit of planning ( easier if you are BFing) and a bit of organisation but it really is worth it to feel human, get dressed, put your face on and show off your LO. We needed a couple of weeks after she came home to recover and get our confidence and i expect that will be the same for you. I say go for it :)

NoToast · 06/06/2011 21:13

8rd thought you were writing beatnik plain verse for us!

Congrats Sasa really pleased that it's all happened for you. Did I miss any news from Kara or Thorny? have they had their babies yet?

The good thing about today: I have seen a knitted breast.

The bad thing about today: Insistence of medical team on IVs and monitoring for birth

The 'lalalalalal, I'm in my happy place', denial moment today: fanny rummage from consultant. Not ripe enough for sweep.

Going to listen to hypnobirth CD, collect some colostrum, and bounce on my birthing ball. Am impressed with people who are planning more normal social lives for the future. Wink

milliemuffin · 06/06/2011 21:45

TTL I just read your post to DP and we both laughed out loud. He buys me every snack/sweet under the sun but you can be sure if he buys himself a nice juice that I'll drink it before he even gets a look in!

Apologies as I read it a few posts ago and cannt remember who said it but what is a 'pelvic release'?! Never heard of it.

Lots of Braxtons today, definitely getting more and more each day. We're seeing Peter Kay 2mrw then I'm 37wks on Thursday. Trying to just look forward to events coming up so I don't get too hung up on when baby is going to arrive.

Gonna go to bed soon although I'm not sure why as I was awake until 2am last night.

Have a good night all xx

crazychic141187 · 06/06/2011 22:16

Ive not had any braxton hicks that have been noticable just hardening of the bump. Had no other signs that I will go into labour any time soon and im annoyed coz i wanted my baby to come tomorrow but by the looks of things that is not going to happen and im going to get depressed about it! Angry

Joannezipan · 06/06/2011 22:59

Crazy I haven't had any either, apparently sometimes you don't feel them though I read somewhere?

I suppose I should get some sleep, tomorrow is going to be a bit full on. Lunch with a friend for his birthday, midwife, NCT & Birthday drinks in the pub in the evening...phew. :)

NurseSunshine · 06/06/2011 23:21

Notoast I am the proud owner of not one but two knitted breasts! Sorry you went through a fanny rummage ( Grin ) for nothing.

Crazy and Joanne I am having tightenings constantly, every say 15 mins throughout the day. A lot of the time I don't really feel it, my bump just goes really hard, though sometimes they take my breath away a bit. When I was hooked up to the moitors on sat I actually saw the trace of the contractions which was cool! I hope they're actually moving baby in the right direction at least.
Crazy FX things get moving for you tomorrow :)

CMH Hope this is it! I would just keep on with what you're doing until you can't anymore. If you cancel plans, even if you are in labour, you'll be so much more focussed on it it'll seem like it's taking forever! I'd say it'd be better to be distracted.

Moomin I still can't believe how early Flo was! It must be so strange to think that if all had gone to "plan" you might not even have her yet, when I bet you can't even imagine what life was like without her anymore!

I've been feeling a bit fed up today. I had a nice morning but knackered myself out a bit and then felt useless all the rest of the day. My feet and ankles are so swollen and gross and even though I've had them up all afternoon and evening they haven't gone down and are still swollen when I wake up in the morning. And I'm feeling a bit weepy for some reason. I need a cuddle and I miss having someone around who really cares about me. I know I've got my lovely friends and I feel very lucky to have them but it's just not the same as having a partner :( Gah, sorry for the me me me post, just need to offload. Boo hoo poor old me! I'm sure I will feel fine in the morning (apart from my stupid ankles!).

OP posts:
petitech · 07/06/2011 01:53

Guessing I'm the only stupid one still awake. I think I'm having regularish contractions now for last couple hrs, about every 6-7.mins and for 40 or so seconds. Just rang hospital they said can be v stop start so to try and stay home for as long as can manage. Feel so.naive.and silly.not knowing if real thing :s

motherofsnortpigs · 07/06/2011 03:36

It's a boy! On his due date - good. No tearing - good. Back to back - I thought I was going to die.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/06/2011 04:24

MOSP - yippee, another boy :) Congratulations!

Petitech - I was advised to ring once they got to less than 5mins apart and between 40-60 secs duration.
Hopefully you have got there.

Baby Starbuck is remaining quite stubborn, no more strong contractions just random light ones. Really fed up now, DH has now started paternity leave, PILs are up and hoping that baby will arrive soon as they will have to spend another night at the Travellodge - we just can't accommodate them here. Will be seeing MW for 40 week check in morning!

Fingers crossed Thorny is snuggling her own newborn!

Wow, can't believe we have now gone passed Flo's due date and look at her now :)

8rd - Moomin's right good organisation is the key but people will be understanding if you have to miss things.

Thornykate · 07/06/2011 05:08

This is the message I had typed at 12:30 but didn't get chance to post.....

Glad everyone is ok & even planning social life.. I am not planning any future engagements as it looks like I will live here in bed a9 on the antenatal ward attached to a ctg monitor.

Basically they agreed to keep me here & put me on ctg for 20 mins routine monitoring before giving pessary. 5 minute later my random ctrx start but are so strong they say I can't have gel as it may put baby in distress due to ctrx already happening.

Unfortunately these ctrx arent strong enough to do anything dilation wise even though I was monitored for hours & was having 3-4 every 10 minutes.

Eventually they told me to go home but come back before midnight & stay over with a view to starting induction in morning if ctrx had stopped by then & hadn't progressed to established labour.

So I went home Had dinner & bath & ctrx almost disappeared & DP brought me back to ward at 10:30 where they greeted me by telling me to hop on the monitor again as they wanted me to start gel tonight.

As soon as I walked on the ward I can feel the ctrx starting up again
& the mw took one look at the monitor & said I can't have gel. Once the monitoring is done she will examine me to see if any dilation has occurred.

Really don't want ARM but don't know whether to point blank refuse it at least until morning. Apart from anything else I'm tired.
... MW just done internal says i am 2cm & waters could easily be broken now Confused

She thinks things are taking too long to progress alone & has gone to phone labour ward to see how busy they are.

Why do things never go to plan?

petitech · 07/06/2011 05:18

Still awake, have dozed a bit in between, timng still roughly every 5 mins duration 30-40 secs. I feel silly going in too soon in case ive got it all wrong :(

Thornykate · 07/06/2011 05:29

They moved me to delivery at 1am where I was still 2cm but I could feel the ctrx niggling a bit more, once on delivery they ARM'd me, I was dreading this but babies head was engaged but still high so not a lot of fluid came out, this was better as ctrx didn't get hugely worse.

I requested birth pool but as I was under induction I was told to wait an hour see if ctrx increased etc. I knew at this point that I was well under way as ctrx were strong but they were only 3/4 every 10 mins so the MWs weren't ruling out the drip.

I did draw the line & say that Im not having any drip as I could feel the ctrx working regardless of what anyone else said.

This was at just before 3am when I really started to feel the stinging & huge pressure, I moved from standing up to get on all fours on the bed & was telling the student MW I needed to push.

At this point DP looked a bit uncomfortable, no surprise as I was telling him to move do he couldn't see the business end, but the room was small & I felt so much pressure I told him to get out of the room Blush I just didn't Want it all going on under his nose!

I pushed on next ctrx & her head was born with cord around neck but loose. She was out in a few pushes at exactly 3am :)

Still undecided on name, baby is 8lb 7oz & is sleeping on me now & she is so snuggly will try to get pic up on profile.

Think DP slightly pissed at me but he got 1st cuddle before me as they brought him back in soon as she was here :)

Hope everyone else is ok, it all went so fast in the end I am only just believing she's here!

Thornykate · 07/06/2011 05:31

Petitech if you feelready phone them, there's no right or wrong time to ring them. Hope you are feeling ok x

Thornykate · 07/06/2011 05:48

Mosp have just seen your post! Congratulations & well done! X

I am v tired but I can't stop sniffing her head & really don't Want her in the cot on her own yet so am having some snuggle time before I sleep too.

crazychic141187 · 07/06/2011 05:52

Congratulations thorny!!!!!!!xx

milliemuffin · 07/06/2011 06:21

Two more babies!! Woohoo!! Huge congrats to Thorny and MOSP! Xx

milliemuffin · 07/06/2011 06:24

I was like that Thorny with DD, she spent most of her first night snuggled with me. I didn't sleep at all but just laid there smelling her. I can't wait to do it again :)

knackered76 · 07/06/2011 06:25

Thorny Congratulations Grin Enjoy all the snuggle time you want, she kept you waiting long enough for it!

MOSP Hooray, what a good boy coming on his due date Grin

Kara Sorry it's all gone off again, very frustrating for you.

Petitech Agree with Thorny, give them a ring and see what they say. Despite being told i would 'know' when I was in labour it took me a while both times Blush. On the plus side I was quite far gone both times when I finally went into hospital :)

Nurse Sending you cuddles, hugs, chocolate and all other manner of comforting things. Sorry you're feeling so down :(

Small moan from me. I went to the loo at 5.15am and then started having annoying crampy period type pains that wouldn't go. Got up 10 mins ago to make dd packed lunch 'just in case' dc's had to go a friends before school and the annoying pains have stopped :( DH can't work from home as his computer is rubbish and he needs to take it in to get sorted. I don't want him to start his paternity as this baby is going to stay inside forever. Oh well, I have mw today and I'm going to try and convince her to let me have an induction on friday, wishful thinking on my behalf but you never know!

Oh well, off to make the packed lunches anyway . . . . I suppose they have to be done regardless!

CitizenOscar · 07/06/2011 06:28

Yay! Congrats to thorny & mosp and welcome to the world mini-thorny & mini-mosp

CitizenOscar · 07/06/2011 06:33

P.s. Does anyone else have sore knuckles? Not swollen, not tingly, just stiff & achy? It's not too painful but a bit odd?

P.p.s. I wouldn't worry about calling the hospital and feeling silly - everyone's contractions are different (just look at the stories on this thread for starters!) and it's their job to get you in at the right time.

BarbieLovesKen · 07/06/2011 07:18

Massive congratulations to mosp and thorny, didn't expect a baby from you mosp. Grin

nurse I'm sorry your feeling down. Hopefully it's just those end of pregnancy hormones making you feel that but lonelier - I find I'm very clingy to my dh in the last bit of pregnancy but honestly could take him or leave him after that Grin. it must be difficult for you though, I really do admire you, hope your ok.

petitech if you are having any doubts go in or ring the hospital, they won't think your silly at all as they will have had so many false alarms in the past but definately safe than sorry - we don't want any unplanned home births here Grin. let us know what you decide and how you how you get on, will be thinking of you.

crazy I really hope your little one follows the latest snortpig's example and arrives today.

kara how are things now?

Day 10 for me and Im now ignoring every pain or ache or show that I'm being presented with. Im also giving dh the go ahead to travel quite far with work without bringing his own transport should a speedy return home be required, it seems pointless/waste of petrol. Have accepted baby will be born after induction next tuesday or Wednesday, 16 - 17 days "late" following another lovely round if syntocin, weighing approximately 15 stone.

Things I have learned this week though:

  1. A sweep is a complete and utter waste of time
  2. Regular Contractions in the front of your stomach mean absolutely nothing
  3. Contractions in your lower back mean absolutely nothing
  4. Constant niggly period pains for a week mean nothing
  5. Loss of huge mucous plug in it's entirity does not mean anything at all and is not a sign of impending labour.
  6. Continuous loss of show thereafter means nothing

Bitter, me? Na!! Grin

8 good luck with your chat mw today, I really hope she can help. Let us know how you get on

BarbieLovesKen · 07/06/2011 07:47

Just read your birth story again thorny thanks for the detailed one - I love to read them. Grin at you kicking your Dh out. Am really looking forward to learning her name.

And mosp sorry to hear lo was back to back - hope your ok

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 07/06/2011 08:16

It's so lovely to wake up and eat breakfast while reading good news. Huge Congratulations to Thorny and MOSP GrinGrin.

Hoping to hear good things from Kara and Barbie soon, in the mean time complain away to your hearts content. That's what we're here for.
