Ocars my Mum bought me a couple of Miriam Stoppard books - First Time Parenting, can't remember the other one - and they are along the lines of instruction manuals with pictures (perfect for a numpty like me who has no idea what to do with a baby). She seems to advocate a fairly relaxed attitude to routines etc, and isn't too preachy.

Have also got the Mumsnet Babies book, if only to make me chuckle.

BrownGirl I would def complain about your treatment @ St Marys. I'm amazed you're having to go private for an early scan when you've had 2 EMCs. I had booking appt at 8 weeks, at which point the MW would've sent me for an early scan if it was needed. Up here you can go straight to the MW without bothering the GP, which is most efficient.

Hope you have a more restful day today GG.

rocketleaf · 17/06/2011 09:35

pony it was a show jump. Don't think 5 sticks would be enough (but not that you are feeling more certain of diffdness) still makes me smile and do a little jig to think of it :o

Brownie my 'booking in' was a breif appointment with the MW at my GP surgery at 6 weeks. She took my details snd gave me a half arsed pep talk about diet. The actual booking in as in bloods weight etc happened at same time as my scan. If you are concerned then ring the MW and request either earlier booking in date or to confirm the scan date now. I think that's worth a try before you go private. I hate to NHS bash but if I've learnt anything it's to question everything. Half the time the arse doesn't know what the elbow is doing and theres not much provision for special circumstances. but often if you point out an error or ask for something other than the norm then individuals within the NHS are more than happy to accommodate you.

lady Bloody scary!! you really are having a tough time it the mo wish I could come and help out.

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 10:24

Right - well you're all stuck with me! I have just "hidden" the Feb ante-natal thread for being accused of "not supporting" people when I said it was OK to exercise! GrinHmm Fucktwattery. Probably for the best - the tweeness makes me want to weep and I fully intend to eat bloody steak. Grrrr.

rocket I'd need an awful lot of sticks to construct a show-jump. I'm not even sure with all the power of PESH we could achieve that!

browb I did not give you ms, I merely suggested that you might get it... Grin

ladyG That's terrifying. :( And the reason why I've bought terribly unfashionable reins - for Shit Parents [tm].

Ocarina · 17/06/2011 10:30

I don't understand why reins are unfashionable, they seem sensible to me. Clearly I deserve much crap ham already. GG that must have been very scary - did you manage to explain to MiniG why running across roads is not a good idea ever, but especially not at the moment?

Alps I'm impressed at the speed with which you make an impression Grin. I never joined the August thread because it's enough effort keeping up with you lot, but tweeness might have been enough to induce ms.

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 10:34

Ocarina I don't trust myself to keep an eye on him 100%. I walk past a shop window and find myself gazing in a world of my own, or nipping in the door. I lose JB enough, I can't imagine a toddler is going to keep up. :(

Ocarina · 17/06/2011 10:55

See, that's precisely why reins are a good idea in my world. Remind me, how old is Bear now and is he walking?

BrownB · 17/06/2011 11:04

Grin Alps - was wondering if you'd notice that... Grin Fingers crossed that you dodge the bullet this time round. From the reading I've done, it seems that every pregnancy is different and there's no guessing beforehand (none of the books mentioned genetic susceptibility). BB - I really hope yours starts resolving itself sharpish. What a nightmare.

LGG - what news on the house? And sorry to hear about the SPD

BrownB · 17/06/2011 11:14

Occy - I hate the idea of reins. I understand and appreciate the sentiment, but I hate the idea. I'm working my way into deserving crap ham... plenty of time yet. Grin

CurlyCasper · 17/06/2011 11:22

I've bought reins. Mainly because my child is so bloody short that if she does start walking soon (as she is trying to) I won't be able to hold her hand without crippling my back. They are also good for fastening them to chairs, olde-style prams and more. Grin

sorry about anxiety brownie. Would a virtual gin help? I didn't get my booking in until after my 12-week scan and consultant appointment Confused.

BrownB · 17/06/2011 11:30

Ah.. of course. Gin is the answer to most ailments isn't it? Grin Gin

macaroonmum · 17/06/2011 11:41
macaroonmum · 17/06/2011 11:43

"but you have to be careful not to go mad with it" Confused not in the sense that you can't go mad with MY doppler...just don't go insane Smile

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 12:18

macaroon I love your maternity dress in the pic of you two by the swing. Pls to share where you got it? [beg] You have I think summed up the way I feel about Down's/Edwards. For Edwards it has (for me) to be a termination because I couldn't "plan" for a stillbirth at 24+ weeks. If the child were to be Down's then I've always said there are "degrees of severity" we could cope with - but as LadyG says, I'd want my full 28 weeks of getting ready for it all.

Ocarina Bear is 11.5 months and just managing a step or two unaided right now.

LadyGoneGaga · 17/06/2011 12:19

He's three and normally good as gold around roads and holds my hand. We'd just come out of nursery and he was being a bit giddy as had parked the car in an unexpected place so he took off running to it. Will be less complacent from now on. At least til I get my running legs back.

Think we have resolution on house. 4th July. Legs firmly crossed until then.

OP posts:
CluckyKate · 17/06/2011 12:27

I had the nucal fold thingy done with no. 2 Alps - no way would we have terminated but wanted to be fully prepared & ready if the baby had been likely to have SN. Thought your support on t'other thread was perfectly sensible - some people are so touchy Grin

We used these reins on LC. They come in all sorts of different animals.

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 12:51

Those are fab Kate! Grin The reins I mean. Not the arseholes on the other thread! Wink

LadyG You can have a bit of crap ham, but if you think you're going to wrestle the crown of Bad Parenting from a CRESH anytime soon you'd better up your game! Grin Fingers crossed for the house now! :)

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/06/2011 12:52

ski I also stalked you looked at the other thread and don't get the offence taken at all. I sometimes think some people are just waiting to be offended! The July bunch were all nice but there were far too many of us so not really the best place for a chatter. There was enough of a cluster diff here for symtpom comparison and menkulling anyway!

lady you poor love, that must have been so frightening. Good news about the house though, knees together and no raspberry leaf tea for you!

brownB the anxiety sounds misery making. My booking in apt was done at around eight weeks and my MW was pretty good when I told her all my worries. This is the same MW who fibbed until I got a scan at the EPU. Yours could turn out to be really helpful. I completely agree that while the NHS can be a bit of a faceless behemoth, the individuals working within it can be gold. Also, I read somewehere that horrible dreams are your subconcious's way of indentifying ways to overcome worse case scernario situations. Not much comfort, but suppose you could view it as your nightly mental work out? Am tickled by the thought of you going postal with maccer's doppler and holding up banks etc.

Sorry to all the pukey differs, occy gaviscon is also available in handy individual sachets Smile.

I have made apricot flap jacks, they are full of iron and a bit burnt so tuck in.

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/06/2011 12:54

Love those reins kate, can I use them on my husband too?

macaroonmum · 17/06/2011 14:04

Alps It was a present from my sister from Nu luk a couple of months ago. I'd be happy to pass it on in a bit if you want it? And a couple of maxi-dresses...

I stay well away from birth threads. I can't be arsed.

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 14:11

macaroon No worries, it'd never go around me, but I actually have a New Look about 25km from here so will make the effort to go and have a poke around. :)

owlbooty · 17/06/2011 16:38

What the fuck? Reins = crap ham? If reins didn't exist I'd be an only child by now; my two brothers would have both been run over/lost/etc early in the game. I'm getting reins. In fact, I may get TWO SETS just to make a point.

Brownie my booking in was late and pretty crap and about two days before my scan at 11+ weeks as the doc I saw at 7 weeks had forwarded the scan booking so it happened separately from the MW. I do think you have to keep an eye on these things though as it seems very easy to slip through the net and nobody notices. And can I just say that I still want to spit on the bitchy cow that was so unneccesarily unpleasant to you on the phone. Grrrrrrrr.

I need these for my health. Yes. Like I needed the chocolate croissant earlier.

MadameBoo · 17/06/2011 19:31

We never used reins Brown but my Mum always used them when she went for a walk with smallboo and he didn't mind. He did have one of those funky rucksack things though - less like reins and more like a dog on a lead type affair- although when I took him out in it he would insist on holding the lead bit himself. These independent Aquarians Wink

MadameBoo · 17/06/2011 19:37

Here you go: little turtle

macaroonmum · 17/06/2011 20:34

That's brilliant Boo - would last for a few years and love the detachable strap.

Alps Envy you have NL in NL?! Why do they only have shite clothes over here? Apart from the very expensive, nice designer ones of of course.
It's online too but that dress isn't there...this is lovely though.

orchid Where arrrrree you? is everything ok?

Medee · 17/06/2011 20:35

I think I will use reins when the time comes.
