twin I think people are inappropriate with pg women generally (talking about personal things and invading personal space) but it's twice as bad with twins here are just a few of the things I got which I can mostly laugh at now but some days I would be in tears (mostly through anger!)

When walking down street complete stranger yells..

"cor blimey you got twins in there or something?" me: yes "thought so with the size of you!"

In pret getting lunch "oh when are you due" me:10 weeks "(gasps) I cannot imagine how big you are going to be in 10 weeks!!

That same day at Waterloo when my ticket wouldn't work in barrier - ticket man says "hang on I'll have to open it twice as you've got a big belly!"

When seeing I have a 2 year old and expecting twins:

"why would you do that?"
"better you than me"
"you'll never be able to cope"
"you're brave"

They seem to think that you choose for one egg to split or two to be fertilised you complete idiots!! And actually i'm truly blessed to have three healthy kids x

The thing I found most offensive was people assuming they were ivf babies and the shock on their face when I said they were natural and the 'well done you" comments. I got really cross and ended up answering them quite sternly with - I mean for goodness sake, if these two were a result of ivf then they would be ten times as special as they are now but irrespective of that how on earth is it ok to ask people how they conceive children? I would never turn round to a singleton mother and say - how did you do it -missionary position?!?

Anyway I can mostly laugh at the size comments now as I was huge! But at the end of the pg they are so frustrating - take heart in knowing a lot of said stupid woman's comments are jealousy and you cannot imagine the tiredness joy that twins bring you they are very special and hard work but worth every minute x

twinnerves · 14/11/2011 09:32

oh bb you make me laugh i also get the one about ivf "you must of had ivf did you" my reply now "no i did it doggy style"
most of time it doesnt bother me but sometimes im almost convinced i could get away with murder because of hormones lol.
Nevermind they are only jealous that we are special enough to conceive with our beautiful twins.
Well im still in countdown mode and the pelvic gurdle pain seems to have subsided which is great so hopefully a good day instore, but worried this lapse in pain means they are going to turn up sooner rather than later!

I have had:

'So it was unplanned then?' (as DD quite young still). Err, No, it was planned, not that it's any of your business (i didn't say the last bit, wish I had). Also had comments like you about the coping BB3

Only 17 weeks?! I'd love to see you at the end!! (got that today outside local shop)

No IVF questions yet, but lots of 'so, which side are the twins on in your family?' some in a probing way. To which I say neither, and it's only the maternal side they run through anyway (which I'm not 100% sure is true, I think I read it somewhere, I say it to sound more informed than them!!!!)

dreamfeeder · 14/11/2011 12:47

I'm dreading people wanting to touch my bump again, and just ranomly helping themselves- I do not do mauling by strangers, colleagues, even friends. DH and I can touch it, and others if I let them feel wriggles and kicks when the babies are moving, but not without asking!!!! Agree that people's sense goes out of the window with pg people in general...

ipswichwitch · 14/11/2011 15:46

hi everyone, hope you're all doing well..any news on katy??
our boy is still doing great, weighed in at an impressive 7lb 1 last wed, so he's put on almost 3lb since birth and is 6 weeks old tomorrow. BF still going ok, apart from sore nipples from the cluster feeding he likes to do between 10pm and 2am...thank god for lansinoh! still trying to get to grips with all thats happened, feels very surreal, but just aiming for some kind of normality at the minute. will finally be able to drive again tomorrow as i'm finally 6 wks post-cs, so taking DS out shopping - am sure he'll moan a lot less than DH when he has to go!
just wanted to say thanks for the support, and i'll be popping in to see how you're all getting on. also, glad to hear dachs good news and glad you have a v supportive dr, makes all the difference

claireinmodena · 14/11/2011 16:51

Hello all,
long time since I last posted, life's just incredibly busy, despite the fact that I'm cutting down on work (but still seem to be doing lots somehow Hmm).

I have been reading all the posts though to keep up to date, but just unable to find the time to actually write anything.

First of all I'd like to extend my thoughts to ipsiwchwitch for what happened, and it's good to hear that BF is going well.

I'm afraid it would take me years to give you all individual greetings so please bear with me, but be assured I like to read all your updates and sed positive thoughts to all even if I don't write often!

Funny you were talking about offensive remarks, since I've had the worst ever on Friday as I was waddling my way through the supermarket with my 10 year old daughter (enjoying some 1-1 time while the other was at a friend's) as a complete stranger told me as we crossed past each other with obvious disgust and scorn: "what a ridiculous bump" and walked off. I have to say I was also too stunned to think of a reply and too busy trying to explain it to my daughter... but honestly, what a pathetic sad little life she must be having to be so mean to a complete stranger!!!

Then I also often get horrified looks when I say these will be no3 and 4. Lots of poor yous, but luckily also lots of nice comments about how precious and enriching children are! and the bump touching really gets on my nerves too, especially this little girl from my dd2's class, I had to tell her yesterday to stop because I do not like it as she just keeps doing it!!

I am now 25+ weeks having a growth scan in just under 2 weeks and can't wait to see the babies again. They are moving around a lot but still can't tell that there's two in there so as far as I know it could be just the one....not reassuring enough!

Well got to now, supervise homework, cook dinner, iron, all the usual stuff....Hope you are all well,
Take care!
(and ignore ignorant people, they're not worth our time!!)

dreamfeeder · 15/11/2011 22:40

Good going ipswitch. I remember the mw telling me its nature's little trick, that milk supply ramps up again at 2am... And realising that by 9 weeks old I hadn't been asleep a single night at 3am, I used to hate that time of night!!! Sounds like you're doing fantastically, and I've no idea how I'd start getting my head round your ordeal. Xx

Claire you may well get first prize for the ridiculous bump comment. Honestly, some people... I'd love 4 children, but Dh says in a mock threatening way ' this is your last pregnancy!' So I doubt it. Suppose I'll be too busy with three under 1 1/2 if I'm lucky enough to really have two healthy babies anyway.

bb3, have you gone up to a full people carrier car-wise? I'm also considering a monster triple buggy... Carrying one in the rain would be a bit impractical. Worked with dd, as i held a waterproof over her, but getting a sleeping baby out of a sling to get them in a waterproof if i only have a double doesn't appeal...

BB3 · 16/11/2011 08:41

Dream - we haven't changed cars we had a Honda Frv before the girls were born which can go up to 6 seats is big enough but not people carrier big (I'd never be able to park it) so we were ok - boots just big enough to get twin buggy and ds' little buggy in there x if dd will still be using buggies regularly I'd go for a triple - we have buggy board for ds which is great (when HE wants to use it!!!) x

ipswitch ds sounds like he's doing really well. How are you feeling in yourself? I think you've dealt with it all so phenomenally well x

I had the girls weighed yesterday and the little porkers are now 9'7 (Edith-may) and 9'13(Ayse) both put on over 1lb in 2 weeks no wonder I feel so drained!

twinnerves · 16/11/2011 10:17

Morning ladies i hope you are all feeling well and the bumps or lo arent making you too tired. Talking of cars i have a suzuki swift and refuse to part with her although every now and then panic how im going to put two carseats in and a bumper seat and a double buggy then of course the shopping, but then calm myself down as dd will be at school so she wont need to come shopoing with me it will just be the elephants!
i too am abitconcerned with how long it takes for milk to come in and if there will be enough, my friend has twin girls said its great as you have to have a very highcalorie diet to produce the milk- so me thinking good timing with christmas.
BB3- those weights are great you are obviousley doing a fantastic job, so be proud of yourself xx
Clairemodena- hello seems like you are keeping very busy, i dont iron-never have as for me there is no point as i dont hang things up, for along time i didnt wash up i justhid the dishes-thankfully i have a dishwasher now and it was amazing where i had put the pots!.dont do too much though keep resting when you can i hope the scan goes well.
ipswitch - im so glad your little boy is doing well, i have sore nipples now so not looking forward to the feeding afterwards xx
Well have a fab day girls, 6 more days for me and a midwife appointment this afternoon love to all xx

dreamfeeder · 16/11/2011 19:27

Thanks bb3, we have a Ford focus so won't fit them all in there. Especially as dd is in an extended rear facing seat, the BeSafe, and i don't think you could find a bigger seat if you tried!! I'm rubbish at parking anyway, parking sensors will be a must... Big expenses for us!! Plus, the triple buggies are so huge you need a big boot. looked at a Honda frv, loved the seat configurations but don't think there's enough boot for a monster buggy too. If I have these babies at 38 weeks dd will be nearly 19 months. If i go for an elective section at 37 weeks, more like 18.5 months. I asked in two shops and seemed to get the unanimous response that 2 is the very youngest who might stand on a buggy board, so either way a long time til then. Oh my goodness, maybe I really will have to get a monster triple buggy... Plus I've scraped the focus more than once going to that from a mini so goodness help me in an MPV... Your girls are doing amazingly well with their weight gain, well done to you. Sounds exhausting.

Hi twin 6 more days, gosh that's close! I hope you're managing to put your feet up every second you can. Meeting them very soon :-)

Hope the growth scan is lovely Claire, I can't wait to see mine again already and already worrying about not being sure both are moving sometimes etc.

BB3 · 16/11/2011 19:42

The buggy board is great but only on ds' terms and therefore not really a guaranteed resource he is two tears and 6 months and I still pop him in the buggy from time to time.

With ds milk came in on day four with these two monsters going at it, it was more like day 2!

I know they're doing really well. I'm really pleased but also a bit sad that they are not tiny babies anymore and are already growing so fast Sad

twin 6 days yay! Honestly having been through it I know how hard a twin pg is and you've done so well. Xx

dreamfeeder · 16/11/2011 19:53

I'm so relieved you said 2 days bb3. My step sister had 3 sections- failure to progress, crash section for placenta abrupta while trying for a VBAC then elective section for third when they wouldn't let her try and she has scared the life out of me with tales of hungry babies and no milk til day 5. Clearly that slower milk production can't be the same for everyone then, I'm very pleased to hear it!
I think monster buggy it is then. Third seat can come off when not needed.

I'm so tired, this old injury back pain that's returned is killing (proof that fell running is indeed bad for you, it haunted me in my last trimester with dd too) and still massive battles for dd to go to sleep. Or just lie in her cot quietly. She keeps sitting up, or worse, standing up, and crying. I've never done the controlled crying thing. I don't think I could. I don't like to think of her crying for me and no-one coming but I'm getting desperate. There's no evening for Dh and I. It puts me on edge and in a bad mood in my already very tired state and I'm worrying about her still doing it when the babies come... Taking up to 2 hours, so anything up to 9pm to get her to sleep... She has a set routine at a set time every day and it used to be fine! Any suggestions????

dreamfeeder · 17/11/2011 09:25

quempin I'm nowhere near!!! 18 weeks today, not even half way... But got some of the pains from my last trimester of my first pregnancy already :-( The worry is the worst bit- I went on the count the kicks website last night and scared myself even more about not recognising if there's a problem with one!! I think you're right, its so much better when they're here. The first 8 weeks were a daze of difficulty and sleep deprivation for me last time- not helped by a long and painful induction followed by a slow healing third degree tear and anaemia. But I still found it far preferable to the last weeks of pregnancy, and less worrying!! My dd is lovely, but tiring, and i just wish bedtime would resolve. She's gone to bed well since 12 weeks old so I'm fed up of wearing out the stairs every night, or sitting with her, or worst of all, giving up and rocking her to sleep on my lap. Rod and Back spring to mind for the last one!!

claireinmodena · 17/11/2011 09:35

Hi ladies

poor dream, I feel for you, I remember those days, and I wasn't even pregnant, I don't have much in terms of advice though, I did controlled crying with dd2 as at 18 months she was waking up every night just for the fun of it, but needless to say I was not amused!! I did not leave her to cry for long, and kept going in every minute or so to reassure her, trying (really hard) to stay calm but firm. With us it worked, she cried for a total of 15 mins the first night, then less the second, and by the third she did not wake. (she occasionally kept on waking up in the middle of the night of course, but it was easier to deal with and most importantly I was able to get some night of uninterrupted sleep!!). It doesn't always work though, some children are particularly resistant!!

twins that is so exciting, really not much too wait now! You know I do not iron much, but dh foes to work in a shirt, can't wriggle out of that one, and since he works from 8 til 9 every night, cannot really ask him to do it when I have plenty of time during the day....

Like quempin I wish I could fast forward to the birth, I'm really getting impatient, and I know I will regret this too, when I have to deal with two newborns and two dds (still can't get my head around the fact that I'll have FOUR children!! I'm convinced one will be left behind somewhere one day!)

We also need to change cars, luckily dh has a company car, a brand new one, ordered just before I got pregnant, but only 5 seats...as a family of 6 we'll need a bus from now on!! They promised to change it in January, let's hope they stick to it. and then I have a tiny Renault Modus which I love as I can park it everywhere, but nowhere near enough space for 4 kids and a double buggy, so it'll have to go, I was set on a VW Touran, but even second hand too expensive for us (unless I want a really old one), so may have to settle for a Zafira.

Right need to do some actual work now...
keep well all of you!

dreamfeeder · 17/11/2011 13:14

claire, it may come to the dreaded controlled crying if it carries on til imminently before the babies are due... If left to whinge/cry on and off, she's still going 90 minutes on til I can't take it any more and go up... I've tried that about 3 times- always the same, a ^very& long time whinging, you think it's going quieter and she may settle...and more crying. For up to 2 hours a night as I said. So we're often eating at 9pm nowadays after the Bedtime Saga...

Having done a lot of MPV research, we're hearing good things about the Seat Alhambra- basically the same eingine and parts as the VW Sharan but much, much cheaper. Plus cheaper servicing. Think we'll hunt for an Alhambra, or Ford Galaxy/S-max... And add parking sensors!!!

I'm bidding on a monster buggy on ebay. A triple. I'm already thinking I'll regret it and I should just go for a BJ City Mini double... Using a bid sniper with a very generous top bid, so unless I cancel it I think we'll get it.

DH goes to work in an un-ironed shirt. Not the smartest... But I am chasing DD round all day and back at work Wed/Thurs now.

And I still say fast forward to the birth- it's the good bit, reward at the end of the 9 months of suffering and then at least from there you enjoy the good bits and know it will get easier rather than harder as when you're pg and expecting 2 newborns when one's not exactly easy!!!!

twinnerves · 17/11/2011 16:08

help! my sister has just informed me her kids have hands foot and mouth and i saw one of them yesterday, is it dangerous to my babies, how long should she stay away etc etc panic mode set in x

dreamfeeder · 17/11/2011 20:34

Oh. My Goodness. I have indeed just bought a monster triple buggy from ebay, a pretty old monster buggy as it was used til their daughter was over 4 (!!!), for the 'bargain' price of £585... I was using a bid sniper, and had set the maximum high, but was naively thinking it'd go for around the £450 mark.. Gulp. Still, I must have been prepared to pay it at the time, in a moment of madness . of course, now I already think it'll be a waste of time and I'll mainly use a sling and only the double bit and should have gone for the city mini double after all!!!! But I am indecisive. And a natural born worrier!

I'm reassured that yours aren't super wriggly and are doing fine quempin. These are much more wriggly, from way earlier, than my DD- I didn't feel her at all til 20 weeks, but I had an anterior placenta then. This time I have a posterior, low placenta. At my last scan the sonographer said she couldn't see 2, and ? they had merged/fused, or were very close together. Yet in my notes it was written 2 placentas seen Shock I will query at my next scan, I don't know if it would make a differnce. Though the placenta position is undoubtedly why I'm feeling movements earlier- DH can feel them too, which is lovely. There is indeed always something to worry about!

twin hand, foot and mouth seems to be very low risk to you and your babies even if you did catch it, according to the NHS website, don't panic!!!!

Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing evening

twinnerves · 18/11/2011 08:19

Is this the start? Different pains this time period like through night kept waking up with them thinking my water were about to break, plus diarreah, no show as of yet or leakage but they are close together and hurt? im 37 weeks exactly today will keep you posted or nt if im in hospital heehee xx

BB3 · 18/11/2011 08:23

Morning ladies

twin so close - not long to go!!!
dream eBay buggy is good then when dd is finished you can trade in for a smaller double buggy (or maybe even stroller) so will save you the expense of that!

quempin Yes exclusively bfing - the girls have had 2 bottles of formula each over the past 8 weeks because I have this fear that I'll be caught up somewhere or ds will need me and I won't be able to get back for the girls and they'll be starving hungry as they won't take a formula bottle so I have and will give them one a month to make sure they will take it in case they ever need it. I'm going to try and bf exclusively until 3 months at least x

BB3 · 18/11/2011 08:25

twin could well be ((although i also had period pains for about a week before although not regular). Keep an eye on it for the next 30-60 minutes, time them and if they are anything close to being regular get on the phone to labour ward.

BB3 · 18/11/2011 08:26

Forgot to say weeeeeeeeeeeee how exciting!!!!
