twinnerves · 02/11/2011 11:48

is it early labour or just pretend? had had eight contraction like pains in last hour ten mins all lasting a minute and really feel quite sick hoping its stopping now !

ipswichwitch · 02/11/2011 13:16

hi everyone, it's been a while but a hell of a lot has happened in the last 4 weeks, and it's been the best and worst time of our lives, so bear with me.
on 3rd october i went for the usual growth scan and we were told that one of our babies hearts had stopped beating. to say we were in shock would be an understatement, there had never been any indication of any problems through the pregnancy and all previous scans were spot on. i didn't even feel any different like there was anything wrong. the other baby was ok but hadn't grown much at all since the previous scan, so we made the decision to have a section the following day. we had to wait as i needed 2 steroid injections to boost baby's lungs as i was 34 weeks at that point. following morning our 2 baby boys were delivered. Nathan was taken straight to special care, and put in a incubator, but was essentially fine. we were told that his brother Adam had died sometime in the 24 hours before the scan, and was possibly a placenta problem that caused it.
Nathan was in the special care unit for almost 3 weeks, and was tube fed expressed milk at first, progressing on to breast feeding and allowed home once he was feeding for himself. he's gone from 4lb 5 born, to 6lb 7 today and we are over the moon at his progress. he's pretty much been the only thing keeping us going, while making arrangements for Adam's funeral and trying to come to terms with all that's happened. i can't fault the care we've had from the hospital, and we're so glad to have our gorgeous (and rather windy!) boy home at last.
hope everyone's ok and you're all keeping well, gonna go feed myself before he wakes for next feed

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 02/11/2011 15:52

Ipswich, you poor poor girl, I'm so sorry for your loss and everything you have had to go through so far.
But also a huge and incredibly heartfelt congratulations - i have just brought my twins home after a fairly long time in nicu and although I cannot imagine how you feel, I do know that some people find it hard to say that - but you have a beautiful new life that deserves to be celebrated.
Also an immense well done on breastfeeding, expressing for tube feeding is so hard and you have done absolutely incredibly to get home breastfeeding, that is such an amazing achievement under hideous circumstances.
Be kind to yourself and enjoy every moment you can now you're home, thinking of you and both your boys.

twinnerves · 02/11/2011 17:02

Ipswich, i dont know what to say nor can i imagine what you are going through i totally back up with what peeling said above and wish you all the strength you will need to get through this. Take things one day at a time and still enjoy your knew baby xxxx

dreamfeeder · 02/11/2011 18:29

oh ipswitch, how awful for your poor Adam and you and your OH. I can't imagine how you and your husband have got through it, but I'm sure your other little one is a ray of sunshine through it all. I don't know what to say, except I will also be thinking of you and your boys. You've done fantastically well to express and breastfeed- I couldn't get the hang of it at all the first 6 months, so am in awe of your achievement. I will be thinking of you, and hoping you can still enjoy all the good times while coping with the bad times. xxx

ravenlocks · 02/11/2011 19:51

Ipswitch I am so so unbelievably sorry to hear of what has happened, shedding tears for you as I read your story. I can't imagine what you have been through and the extremes of emotion must have been so hard to deal with. Congratulations on having Nathan home, he sounds brilliant and so good to hear how he is keeping you going. Thinking of you and your family lots and lots and lots.

xkatyx · 02/11/2011 20:26

Ipswitch I am so sorry for your loss. It's every parents worst fear and in sorry you have to experience it.

I don't have any words to say, I just hope you and your family and little boy will be able to have happy times together.
Totally heartbreaking and I am also in tears, you are all in my thoughts.

Xxxxxxx

BB3 · 02/11/2011 20:35

ipswitch sending you and your family all the love and strength in the world. I hope Nathan continues to go from strength to strength and that Adam sleeps safely with the angels xx

ipswitch I can't stop thinking about you and your family. I've got nothing of any use to say, but I keep reading your post and you sound like an amzing person. To be so strong, and sound so upbeat (when I know this is not how you'll feel a lot of the time) after such a tragedy. I'm so pleased Nathan is thriving, and he is a lucky boy indeed to have a mummy like you. xxxx

It feels awful to ask something so trivial after such serious and shattering news (I hope you're not offended ipswitch), but when did you ladies start getting Braxton-Hicks?? I'm 16 weeks today, and with exertion at work I'm getting what I assume are B-H, (strong, uncomfortable tightenings very low). Isn't this a bit early? Or another 'norm' for twins??? I'm wondering if I need to cut down ++ at work, even though I'm barely back.

Hope everyone else is ok. xx

BB3 · 04/11/2011 03:50

dream l didn't personally get them until later but that's not to say it's not normal. Do they only happen at work? If so I'd be inclined to slow down a bit xx

silverangel · 04/11/2011 09:17

Ipswitch, so so sorry for your loss xxx

twinnerves · 04/11/2011 10:49

Hi Dream, i didnt actually think about it too much but i think i started getting them around twenty weeks but these werent painful but my tummy went really hard, its within the last few weeks ive been getting them quite regulary and they hurt like mad even though yes there not suppose too-sure its a man that says this! but ive been told to monitor them over two hours and if they come stronger and closer together then to ring the hospital obviousley if theres been a show and/or waters breaking aswel then get an ambulance straight away and its been said on here beforebut if you have been standing alot and get them lay down for a bit and vice versa, but if youre really worried then ring the hospital for some reassurance im sure you just maybe need to rest abit more x

dreamfeeder · 04/11/2011 15:47

How lovely silver! And imagine, both your babies are still smaller than many at birth!! My SIL had 9lb3 and 8lb12 babies!!! So glad they're thriving, and do share all your Top Tips Grin. When did you get to take the girls home? I imagine it mist be so hard having them in nicu.

I got B-H last time, but not til 22 weeks, and that was with 'proper' exertion of, ahem, mountain biking or walking up hills. I'm sure it is BH I'm getting at work. Not had to do so much today and not had the same today. Will speak to my manager...already...

ravenlocks · 04/11/2011 18:33

Evening. Phew for the weekend starting!

Peeling thanks for sharing your story, really interesting and I wonder if there was a connection? Made me freak out that I haven't had a scan since 18 weeks - am 28 weeks tomorrow - now feel that that was too big a gap to go without a scan and should have pushed for an interim one - or gone for a private one. Ah well, can't do much about it now as have a scan on Monday so don't have too long to wait.

Dream yes, love the Donkey - BB3 and I are in the fan club! We got the sand colour. Yes it is a fair old expense but we got a good deal £360 off for it being an ex-display one. It had been in the John Lewis window for a few weeks (internal window to a shoppping centre so no sun damage etc). We were really chuffed with that. Plus my parents bought it for us so didn't cost us a penny - precious first grandchildren!

You were talking about size and being big for twins. My uterus has been at my ribs for weeks. Apparently was measuring 30 weeks of a singleton at 24 weeks.

Has the bleeding settled down? Can't believe midwives won't see you until you are 18weeks, what a nightmare - but your consultant care sounds good as an alternative thorough - lots of scans and also you have discussed the birth which I haven't as yet. Might be on the list for our apt on Monday. Really want to know how late they will let me go with DCDA (hopefully they won't make me go to 38 weeks!).

Quempin no heartburn here touch wood. Do you recommend TABMA, what do you get out of it? Me, you and tabby are sooo close - within 3 days of each other. I bet I am the least organised....

  • nothing bought (apart from pram)
  • still got 4 weeks at work
  • nursery not even nearly ready (managed to empty it of junk last weekend, needs building work, decorated, re-carpeted, new electrics... the works)
  • no birth plan/ clue about D-day

Hi smokeybacon - any words of wisdom for the first year of twin-dom??

Hi to all the mums with new babies, hope you are getting some sleep!!

Still thinking of you ipswitch.

dreamfeeder · 04/11/2011 19:24

Hi raven, my consultant is excellent, I requested her. I also checked the NICE guidelines which for dcda say you shouldn't go past 38 weeks and should be scanned monthly after 20 weeks (for dcda-more for mcda/mcma obviously) You can just Google NICE guidelines multiple pregnancy so you can see yourself what they say. They're very, very new. My consultant said I definitely won't be allowed to go past 39 weeks, but said (I'm slight and not tall and Dh is 6'4") that we'd see closer to the time- she said if I choose a section, and am v uncomfortable that could be at 37 weeks. I think she's growth scanning me every two weeks from 28 because I carried so big last time, look big already plus size difference with me and Dh. Not sure if every trust do that for dcda but could be wrong, maybe they do. So many consultant appointments because the midwives don't see twin pregnancies here at all! No more spotting, just the strong Braxton-Hicks...

You're just like me last time, I had no cot, pushchair or anything when dd born (at 40+4!) I had a Moses basket and borrowed a babybjorn. They'll be in with you for a bit anyway, so don't worry about their bedroom too much! So long as you've got car seats and somewhere for them to sleep, and your uber-pram of course it'll be fine! I'm impressed you're working til 32 weeks, hardcore for twins!!! Doubt I'll manage with how hard I'm finding it already unless I can somehow do office work and not see children...

twinnerved hope you're not in too much discomfort today...

dreamfeeder · 04/11/2011 20:02

Oh, and.forgot to say, I think part of the reason she discussed delivery was because of my last difficult delivery. I was already referred due to my third degree tear, then found out about the twins!

BB3 · 05/11/2011 00:31

Ladies when your babies arrive, do not under any circumstances decide to take on DIY projects until they are at least 4. We decided to finish off the decoration in the old part of the house this week which has involved painting, glossing, sorting piles of crap, cleaning carpets etc and I've only just finished relaying carpet in the porch after my ever so helpful neighbour volunteered to do it (apparently he was able to do this so we agreed as it's free labour Wink and we managed to get a really cheap nice off cut for it) only the helpful bugger made a right pigs ear of it and it needed completely redoing out of the remnant pieces which involved trying to neatly join hardwearing carpet with minimal pile. I made dh reluctantly come home from work early (9pm!) to help mend it and we fought like cat and dog managed to get it down but it's not perfect in anyway and we finished at 11.50!!! I'm now feeding girls hoping they'll go straight back down so I can get some sleep before driving to pick up my parents tomorrow morning!

Grrr

Re birth - My consultant said they won't let twins go past 38 weeks because their placentas start to fail earlier than singleton pgs but my section was booked for 38 weeks so they def would have let me go that far had the little ladies stayed in a tiny bit longer! I'd prepare yourself for 38 weeks and anything else is a bonus. Wink

I'm still very much in love with our donkey we have a black one with one red, one White and one black hood (we alternate the two colour combinations). I'd recommend getting caraway adaptor for it so you can bung them on straight out the car when popping to shops xx

twinnerves · 05/11/2011 19:52

lol giggling to myself as was amazed you could geta black red and white donkey-then realised where i was and remembered the pushchair range eee baby brain. hope you ladies are doing well and enjoyed the fireworks- my twins kicked like mad through the big bangs xx

twinnerves · 06/11/2011 12:15

Hiya ladies, jusr wondered if anyone has experience dishcharge at 35+2 weeks, i have worn pads for ages but todayi can feel something trickling downinside and its making a yellow colour on the pad is this normal? please reassure if you can xx

BB3 · 06/11/2011 12:31

twin - does it smell funny?

twinnerves · 06/11/2011 13:56

hiya bb, not really definatley doesnt smell of wee, there is a slight odour but nothing offensive x

BB3 · 06/11/2011 14:14

It could be your waters leaking - if it's feeling heavier than discharge and there throughout most of the day I would give the mw a call x
