Hello all

Just want to say hello and hope everyone is doing well. The girls are two weeks old today and feels like they have been here forever. Ayse has a cold at the moment so night times are a bit rough at the moment but they are doing so well and starting to get very strong individual personalities - it's lovely!

Anyway, just popping in while my cake is in the oven. Hope everyone is ok.

BBx

xkatyx · 04/10/2011 20:56

Hi, glad everything is going ok

I always thought my babies had cold around this age hopefully she is just snuffly

I must say I'm really struggling 25+ weeks and I feel like I can't go on. I just don't know how you ladies did it.

I'm huge, waddling and suffering with really bad SPD.

Im dreading next few weeks I have ages left and Im finding it so hard.

Booo hooo

Sorry for the misserable post hope everyone else is coping better.

Bb3 if u can put some pics up.

BB3 · 05/10/2011 01:32

xkatyx there should be some of the girls on my profile! X

This middle stage is very hard. Up until about 32-34 weeks I found really tough. After that the size of you makes it hard but you generally feel a bit better about the pg / time remaining. I remember wishing that they would arrive about 28-30 weeks even though they'd need some potentially serious help in scbu which after having them so big and trouble free at 37 weeks seems crazy now but it is hard and it does take its toll on your body. You must, must rest. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I did far too much in this pregnancy and have suffered a bit since. It's hard when you have kids or work but you must put yourself first x likewise afterwards. I felt amazing and got over confident with my progress then saturday did too much and ended up splitting my scar slightly (which fyi hurts more than natural child birth Grin) and have been sofa ridden for a couple of days trying to heal it!

The girls are sleeping tonight. Admittedly on me so I'm facing a second night wide awake but hey at least I'm not battling to settle them like yesterday. Fingers crossed it's an improvement so tomorrow night might be easier again. Ds is at nursery tomorrow so I'll be smiling sweetly at my family to take girls so I can sleep between feeds. I'm sat watching bad tv at the moment which is nicer than watching the clock in the bedroom!!!

princess / tigger / mrss. I have a question about post pg body. Don't get me wrong i'm not desperate to diet but two weeks post cs and baby delivery I still feel bloated and swollen - is that normal? with ds it took a while to get my pre of figure back but I felt like id lost the pg 'bulge' as such fairly quickly. Just getting a bit frustrated at feeling so crappy and not being able to do anything about it for another month!

xkatyx · 05/10/2011 08:52

Awwwwww they are so sweet. Just still unbelievable there's 2!!!

Looking at them just makes it worth while ahhhh.

Oh no you must be exhausted hopefully someone will help you out and you can catch up on some well needed sleep.

Hope you have been getting lots of rest let your self heal.

tabbycatt · 05/10/2011 16:43

BB3 - photos are gorgeous. hope you are managing to get some sleep!!

xkatyx - sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish, but so glad I am not alone in feeling like that. Am nearly at 24 weeks and feel huge, have horrid pelvic pain and generally feel more like 30 weeks than 24. Also getting bad back ache - mainly when sitting at desk which is unfortunate. Nice to know it is all normal though. who'd have 2 babies at once?!

Ipswich - sounds like a good tour, and useful to know what the policies are in other areas. Have my consultant meet next week so hope to find out then what I should expect around here. Are both of yours head down at the mo? interesting about the injection for twin 2. wonder if that is the same sort of stuff they give you to get the placenta out?

Only a week and a half of work to go - can't wait!! and working from home quite a bit so only 8 more journeys (4 days in the office). hallelujah!

xkatyx · 05/10/2011 18:45

Oh tabbycat we are not far off each other.

Are your babies ID?

It's so hard isn't it, I think my body really has had enough of being pregnant because I fell pregnant so quick after our baby. Forgotten what it's like to not be in pain.

Woo hooo for 4 days left

MersyMersy · 07/10/2011 17:29

Hi All

BB3 your babies are beautiful. Making me very emotional! I'm so looking forward to meeting mine.

Ow xkatyx and tabbycat boo to feeling rubbish. I'm 26+3 and going through a sleepless phase and feeling pretty poo as a result too. I feel dead on my feet right now so I think after this post I'm going to go and have a cheeky nap before tea time.

I've been really suffering with my back, especially if I've been sat down a lot too. I've also had a bad hip and nothing seems to ease it. Has anyone tried a maternity pillow and if so would you recommend them? I've got to do something to get some sleep I'm just a zombie at the moment.

Also, xkatyx and tabbycat are your babies moving a lot? Mine seem to be moving around more than kicking, my bump moves in two different directions sometimes. I love it but it a bit of a strange feeling, do you have this? Do you think that means that they have moved position? I hope not because they've both been head down from the begining and I'd like them to stay that way.

BB3 · 07/10/2011 19:28

Thanks all x I'm biased but they do make me want to eat them up they are so scrumptious (although I'm not saying that -at the moment as they've not let me sleep for the past 4 days with their colds that only seem to be a problem at night time!!!)

mersy those movements sound familiar to me. I didn't get huge amounts of kicks all the time but lots of Mexican waves an alien movements.

Maternity pillows didn't help me much - in the end I shoved them and normal pillows behind my back so I could lay on my side and kind of lean back on the mound of pillows to relieve the pressure on my hips a bit. It helped but didn't solve it completely - your mw or dr should be able to refer you to physio if you are suffering. Mine didn't come on until 30 ish weeks so I figured it was too late to do much about it so persevered until the girls arrived and thankfully ive not suffered at all since.

Sorry if you've all said already but do you know what flavour babies you are having?

BBx

MersyMersy · 07/10/2011 21:29

No they are gorgeous, get used to hearing it because I'm betting you will hear it a lot :) Poor babes with colds though, was just chatting to my friend about baby colds. Her little boy gets them a lot poor thing.

Yeah I thought as much about the pillows, I've heard mixed reviews. I've half tried leaning back on pillows/my DP and put a cushion under my knee and that did help a bit. I'm on my own tonight so I'll use the spare pillows and try a few positions! If that works I'll invest in some extra normal pillows.

I've been to physio, she seemed like a nice person but she was useless. I don't think English was her first language and there was bit of crossed wires. I went about my hip and she only talked about back ache, I kept saying 'but what about my hip' and she just kept saying 'yes'! She was sweet but a bit useless. Did you find anything helped you?

I do know what flavour they are. I'm having one of each :) They are getting very good at their alien impressions and Mexican waving! :)

BB3 · 08/10/2011 07:54

Ah that'll be really nice do you have any names picked out? (im so nosey!) I was convinced I was having one of each but was wrong (was wrong about ds too though!) which is a shame in a way as I LOVED our boys name so much after months of arguing over it!!!

Thanks, i will try and get some new ones up now they are almost 3 weeks as theyve changed quite a lot and are morphing into each other.

Oh and word of warning for when the twins arrive and you take them out for the day say shopping or for long walks - not only do you need to allow for an extra hour or so for feeding, changing etc (and the cost of sitting in a costa while doing said feeding) but add at least another hour for all the people you will have to stop and talk too. 5 people stopped us in John Lewis yesterday to look at / ask about the babies and that was our first shop! It's really lovely but you just don't get anywhere Grin.

Shame about the physio, could you ask to see someone else?

BB3 · 08/10/2011 07:55

Just to clarify shame about the name, not that I got two girls as now they're here I couldn't imagine not having two girls iyswim Grin

How did pillows work out for you?

xkatyx · 08/10/2011 08:07

Hi mersy, yes babies are very active have bones popping out from everywhere.
Mine keep changing position, I have scans every 2 weeks and they change it time.

I have 2 big saussage pillows that are nice but at the moment I'm in so much pain with hips etc.

We are having 2 girls Smile

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 13:00

Hello, please can I join in? I had my 12 week scan on Thursday and discovered I'm having twins! I'll have an 18 or 19 month age gap between them and my eldest. I'm really suffering with sickness, not managed to come off the anti-emetics at all yet (I have tried). I threw up til 16 weeks last time with one, so slightly dreading what could happen with 2!

I'm totally delighted (though initially shocked) and am currently torturing myself with the thought of something going wrong with one of the babies or the pregnancy/delivery with it being twins. Did anyone else have these fears and get any reassurance/stats on the liklihood of all going well? They're non ID the sonographer thought, and both measuring bang on dates.

I hope that wasn't too much about me... sorry!

I haven't had a chance to read more than this last page of posts yet, but congratulations BB3!! Bid sympathies with the babies' colds too. Having just suffered hell with (so almost) 13 month old DD's cold i remember how much worse it is when they're tiny and can't breathe and feed with a cold etc etc... Hope they both feel better soon.

mersymersy what a shame you didn't get any real help at the physio, is there any chance you could ask for a different one? I had bad hip and rib pain with DD, and absolutely could not lie on my side for the hip (and rib) pain, despite the advice and having a back-to-back baby (what the point of me spending as much time as possible on all fours in the day to turn her when I could only manage about an hour on my side at night before going back onto my back for a bit, then trying side again I don't know) I just used normal pillows, lots of them, but have to say, it didn't go away...

and hello again xkatyx, hope you're not sufferning too much.

BB3 · 08/10/2011 13:32

Thanks Dreamfeeder and welcome! huge congrats on your news.

The bad news is, that torturing yourself with fear over the babies doesn't actually go away until they arrive!! Did you get any idea on what flavour you are having? I was sick until about 4.5 months (horribly) and then it came back with full force about 8 months too! All you can do it try and rest as much as possible (with a young child I know how hard that can be!)!

Good luck!

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 13:51

Thanks BB3!

oh, rubbish BB3, I had a sneaky feeling the worry would continue! DH can't 'get' it- he says 2 healthy looking babies, as far as you can tell on a 12 week scan, with 2 heartbeats, and 2 lots of foetal movements seen is as good as it gets so chill (chill?! chill?! while being tired anyway, sleep deprived by DD, and worried about these 2 all through the hunger and sicknes!). No idea on flavour, we're undecided on whether to find out... Wouldn't have again for a singleton, but twins seems different somehow!

Bad news about the sickness for you, you poor thing. I hope I'm luckier than that, though from how things are going, and my last pregnancy I'm not wildly optimistic!!! How old's your eldest? What did you take? I'm on Buccastem (Stematil) and have some diarolyte for rehydration on 'bad' days. It does seem to work, and my weight loss has stopped (I think....) but I'm certainly not gaining!

Just noticed you've got pics up so off for a quick nosey!

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 13:53

Oh. My. Goodness. What beautiful, perfect looking babies BB3! You certainly breed them attractive, your son is gorgeous too! I fear you will actually never walk through a shop unaccosted again...

BB3 · 08/10/2011 15:15

Haha! Yes unfortunately I think it's more to do with their Turkish father than me (I am very English - pale and light haired so their olive skin and dark locks are not from me!)

I think it's harder for DH's - all they get to see is the picture on screen, not the feelings inside which are where all the worries come from! DS is 2 and 5 months! I lost about a stone in sickness but put it all back on and now have about 1.5 to lose!!! I can't remember - the dr just prescribed anti-sickness tablets.

It was a lovely surprise not knowing but the last few weeks waiting were hard!!!

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 17:16

Can I ask a quick just-googling-things-I-don't know question??

My sonographer said she thought the babies were non-identical. She has put on the printed scan sheet attached to my green notes 'probably dichorionic/diamniotic'. I have just logged onto the NHS twin part of the site, and now see that 1/3 of identical twins are DCDA. Not trusting her 'I think' and 'Probably' quite so much now... I also don't have another scan booked until 20 weeks, but the NHS website recommends every four weeks for DCDA twins (if that's definitely what my babies are). Is that for after 20 weeks, or from when twins are identified?

I am slightly concerned about this, because we are using the hospital trust that has been in the news recently (certainly round here) for having a Red Alert for Maternity Services i.e. dangerous standards of care. I thinkit is worse in the other hospital in the trust (there are only 2- University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay) I want to make sure my babies get everything they need!

Can I ask you ladies for your experience and advice on this?!?

I will also ask my midwife when I see her on Tuesday, but she is older and, ahem, very slightly fierce.

Thank you!

xkatyx · 08/10/2011 18:54

Hi dreamfeeder, Im a worrier to everyday I think my waters are going to pop or something.

As for the scan I had a early one which was to early to tell what type of twins so I booked a private scan and got told they were Identical!

When I went for my 12 week scan she was useless just assumed there were not Identical as to early to see if sharing placenta etc.

Thankfully I told them and I now have scans every 2 weeks which is normal here for ID twins.

Maybe speak to your midwife xx

BB3 · 08/10/2011 19:33

dreamfeeder mine were dcda, two placentas and two sacks and I was scanned at 12, 20, 28, 32 and 36 weeks officially but I also had a scan at 26 and 34 for growth because of lack of movement from the little blighters. If the twins share a placenta you are scanned every two weeks here from 12 weeks because of the risk of TTS but if not it's every 4ish. So sounds like your hospital are doing the right thing. Also if it's the hospital I'm thinking about my view is you are more than likely to get better care than normal there as they will be out to prove themselves and make sure no more mistakes bad publicity happens. What I will say is get off google that thing should be banned for all pg ladies especially multiples but don't be afraid to ask millions of questions to be and hospital, I went to every appointment with a list of them as it helped me feel more in control!

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 19:34

Thanks katy, I had assumed the sonographer was right and they must be non-identical as 2 placentas, and 'probably' DCDA until I read the NHS website which told me that's true for a third of ID twins too! Now I'm worrying about an extra thing. I am also a worrier though, this is a fact!

How lovely to be having ID girls! I hope it continues going well, despite the aches and pains...

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 19:34

and I WISH my midwife was a bit less scary!!!!!

BB3 · 08/10/2011 19:35

Oh also you should see your midwife between each scan so 24 weeks, 30, 34 etc where they check heartbeats so you're never too long between check ups xxx

BB3 · 08/10/2011 19:40

Sorry keep remembering things. I think someone on this thread told me once there's a 10% chance of dcda being identical or something like that but you will be monitored so I wouldn't worry, chances are they are not and you have the easiest possible type of twin to carry (as I did). My lead consultant who I didn't meet until my stupid first one was moved to a different hospital was ace and basically said to me, if anything feels wrong, anything at all no matter how minor, tell us and we'll check you out. So that's what I lived by, you'll know what doesnt feel right as the pg progresses and just go with your gut.

dreamfeeder · 08/10/2011 19:50

Thanks BB3, that's wonderfully reassuring!! It's Lancaster hospital I'm going to- is that the one you're thinking of? Can I ask one more question... when did you see a consultant? I have already been referred because of my first birth, before they knew it was twins, so I know who I've been referred to and am very happy with that.

I thought I was being sensible by ignoring all sites of the babiesRus-don't-know-who-wrote-them type and just looking at the actual NHS one, but it still made me worry! If only the sonographer had nodded confidently and said 'oh yes, non-ID, DCDA' but she's DOCUMENTED 'probably'.... Gives a worrier like me material!!! I shall try and relax, it's not like theyll do naything differently, and she did see 2 placentas.

High 5 for 'easy' twins to carry (have to say, it's a piece of piss so far) Wink
