Hello all

I'm home! Slightly amazed that it all happened so quickly as id prepared myself for a week long stay (and I hate hospitals!) but they discharged the twins at 7am this morning and me about 11.30! Was home by lunchtime GrinGrinGrin

raven I was 36+6 when the bleed started and contractions that evening but 37 weeks when the girls arrived just after midnight so they made it to full term!!!

You know 4 weeks ago I was willing these lo's to come out at 34 weeks as the pregnancy was so hard and with my size, the pelvic pain etc I have had a horrible past month and was mortified at the thought of waiting until 38 weeks for the elective cs - BUT with the girls being over 5lb they needed no help (Ayse had a tiny bit of oxygen to help her pink up when she first came out) but no time on scbu, no extra checks or medication needed and have been brilliant bfers - no top ups required. I sound like I'm showing off, I'm not (promise) just hoping that when you guys hate being the size of a house and unable to move because of the pain this might make those last few weeks bearable. We had emergency cs and were home 36 hours later.

Sorry I'm on phone and can't remember who asked for update (think it was Ipswich). So far so good. I hated hospital think it has a lot to do with my hospital (while staff were lovely people and labour team amazing, the care as a whole was awful) - an example is at 1pm yesterday I had to ask them to take away the blood covered towels that lo's had been wrapped in at birth that had been sat on the end of my bed or almost 8 hours and ask them to change my bed towel things as I'd been sat in my own blood loss for over an hour Angry but the girls are wonderful and just automatically part of the family already. DS is great he generally ignores them (Which is his way of accepting) then comes up for a play with them when he's ready. He was sat in their Moses basket earlier and wanted them both on his lap for cuddles (bless my heart almost melted) and he likes you to put them in and out if bed etc at his direction (not sure where he gets his bossiness from Blush). We left him off of nursery today and he came to get us from hospital so helped walk babies to car, sat between them on the way home, got out with them etc which I think really helped. he's obviously a 2 year old and 2 year olds are rough and dont understand how careful you have to be with babies (so he's been a but jumpy on me which is painful and had a few no's but that is part of learning)

In terms of babies themselves - they are doing so well sleeping and feeding well: bfing is much harder with two. Nipples are very sore with two of them sucking away. My milk isn't quite in but getting there so at moment they are working extra hard to get c'strum which is taking its toll on my nips - have used almost half a tub of lanisoh in 2 days. When DS is in bed going to get some ice packs on them but should ease up once milk comes in an less suction needed. Am feeding every 3 hours with a few top ups in between) and girls have taken to it really well. I was worried it would be harder after cs and not having immediate skin to skin but has been no problem apart from the nipple pain!

I'm currently sat on the sofa with both girls asleep on my lap as DS snoring through the monitor and I'm very, very happy xxx

xkatyx · 22/09/2011 08:41

I'm so happy for you bb3 and so glad everything went well.

They sound adorable as does your ds.

You must be so glad you are home and settling well.

ipswichwitch · 22/09/2011 14:37

mersy glad all is well with the latest scan. i never get bored looking at them! my OH gets very nervous too just before we go, but once they put the probe on he sits with a soppy grin on his face watching the kids :)

hello to hells will keep fingers crossed for you, and hope all goes well at next appointment. we'll be here if you have any questions, and do our best to help. don't worry, i've asked plenty of daft questions and will probably continue to ask plenty more!

glad to hear you're all home bb3 and doing so well too. your DS sounds like an absolute treasure :) great they let you home after just 36 hours - i'm hoping to be in and out fairly quick, and also wanting to BF so guess i'd better stock up on the lansinoh!!! now 33 weeks, getting bigger by the second and can't wait to see them, but will happily make do for another 4 weeks if it means they arrive at a respectable weight and i can bring them home without problems.

PrincessScrumpy · 22/09/2011 20:34

Huge congratulations BB3. Such good weights and lovely names.

Today is my dtds official due date and they've had a growth spurt - Heidi is now 6lb 2oz (finally over her 5lb 15oz birth weight! - she was 5lb 11oz on Monday so must be enjoying my milk!) and Kitty is now 5lb 1oz so way over her 4lb 6oz birth weight. Only problem is they are now looking more alike as Kitty is filling out in her face (she was soooo tiny before is was clear which was which).

MW told me on Monday that I was lucky it's so easy to tell them apart as they look so different (they're ID!) and then spent the rest of the time muddling them up despite them being in different colour babygrows! Made me smile.

Good luck to everyone else xx

PrincessScrumpy · 22/09/2011 20:38

Haha BB3 just read about your ds - sounds lovely. Our dd1 (3) keeps sneaking into our bed. We live in a town house so we're on the top floor with dtds and dd1 is feeling left out. She climbs the stairs and gets into our bed between us from the bottom. We wake and find her there! It's actually quite cute but she's so tired as she then wakes when the babies need feeding. She did it once while I was in hospital and dh found her in my place in the bed, I can understand though and in every other way she's fab. Very protective of her sisters.

hells1908 · 23/09/2011 13:01

That's very cute about your older children and the need to be close to the twins. As our 'DS' (is that what I'm meant to call him?!) is 17 I sincerely hope he won't be getting into our or their beds ;)

So, nuchal scan, they're both fine and dandy and VERY proud that I'm 'only' a 1/600 risk now...just waiting for the bloods this afternoon. So it looks - everything crossed - that it's all system go. Seeing as I got rid of most of DS's stuff over the years as I was the first of my friends to have a baby, it'll be starting from scratch again, with only 5 months to go, including moving house as we'd downsized...tum-te-tum. And maternity clothes. Am already showing at 13 weeks and only have 2 dresses which will be wearable for a bit. My jean size was wishful thinking even when I wasn't pregnant!

Any reccs for pregnancy/childhood books for twins so I can start my research? It all seems so long ago, can't really remember what I'm meant to be doing and not doing now, I even forgot the fact that conception is two weeks into the age they give you so that explains why the twins haven't been harmed by my time in hospital. Phew.

xkatyx · 23/09/2011 17:10

Hi everyone, just afte bit of advice

My babies aren't that active infact my single pregnancy was alot more active.

Obviously had loads of scans all seams well and they do move. Just found it odd as I would of thought with twins I would be constantly kicked.

Anyone else?

BB3 · 23/09/2011 18:22

Sorry posting really quickly - xkaty with DS I felt strong movements from about 16 weeks and with the twins didn't even feel a flicker until 20+ weeks - was so paranoid and was so scared of what they would say at the 20 weeks scan as I was convinced one or both were gone. And those movements after that were much smaller than with DS. But they soon got bigger and more dramatic. If you are worried go and get it checked out to reassure yourself. It's better than worrying yourself xx

ipswichwitch · 23/09/2011 18:27

hi hells glad things are going ok - i already had a bit of a pot at 11 weeks, and since i was in same position as you with jeans size, i seriously doubt i'm gonna be one of those who goes home from the hospital in their pre-pregnancy jeans. could barely get the buggers done up before i fell pregnant :) actually got a few decent things from asda's maternity range, basics like t-shirts, tracky bottoms and trousers, and they didn't cost the earth. i found babycentre quite helpful, get emails every week telling us whats happening in there and what to expect (complete with diagram)

katy i cant compare to a single pregnancy (not had one yet!) but these two go from being mega kicky, to just shifting about a bit, but i think they're starting to run out of room in there. not so many big spinning about movements, a lot more subtle nudges and prods now. the other day they barely moved at all, and as i was about to call the mw in a panic, they started their tag-team headbutting of my bladder again!

had letter from mw today, my iron levels still low, explaining why i'm so tired and out of puff (even more that usual!) but dont need the iron injection just yet - thank god. had to ring antenatal though, as we've still not had any info on antenatal classes, and only have 4 weeks to go til they say they'll induce assuming the kiddies dont decide to appear before then. finally got first class scheduled for next sat, and i know many people have mixed opinions on the classes but we both feel like we've no idea what to expect and dont know anyone who's had twins - apart from the lovely ladies on here of course! - so would appreciate a bit more help and advice from the professionals. will let you know if they are any good.
have a good weekend y'all :)

xkatyx · 23/09/2011 18:27

Ah thank u bb3 u must be so busy at the moment, thank your for taking time to reply.

There having a good squirm now, I also have consultant app Monday and a scan this week.

It's just my single babies were so active never stopped.

BB3 · 23/09/2011 18:27

hells glad nuchal scan went well, how did bloods go? Im kind of anazed by your story, isn't it funny how things work out.

Sorry have no advice on books. I purposely avoid any books on pregnancy and the like as they make me obsessive and paranoid about things! It's a bad personality trait.

Grin at your DS sneaking into bed to be closer to you and the twins! I bet he'll be pretty good with them though and very protective. Do you know what you're having?

BB3 · 23/09/2011 19:05

princess so glad girls are doing well weight wise - we had 3 day weigh in today Edith-May is holding pretty much steady and Ayse-Rose has lost 6% but then she did poo for Britain yesterday as she got used to my milk coming in (7 times Shock) so fingers crossed she starts putting it back on for her weigh in sunday.

Ipswich there is no way on gods green earth i would even attempt to get in pre pregnancy clothes for a while. Firstly they wouldn't fit! the swelling from the section plus extra weight of pregnancy and mostly the saginess of the skin having stretched so far with the babies means i still look pregnant (I'd say about 4 months!).

Secondly jeans of any kind fill me with dread as they would i imagine irritate the scaring.

Thirdly my tummy is quite tender - I imagine again from being pulled around during the section so all I wear is smart ish jogging bottoms or pjs as it's so soft!

Between my sore boobs and belly plus tiredness - I think I'd quite happily live in comfy clothes forever!!!

ravenlocks · 23/09/2011 19:29

Hi everyone,

tabby yeah for two boys and good scan
katyx how odd to hear about your hospitals policy of compulsory c-sections. I am still not sure where it sit on the type of birth I want. I would like to think natural - but I am really not sure and need to research it more and talk to the docs.
hells hello! welcome, congrats on your pregnancy, so pleased about your scan. Amazed at what you managed to do in your first trimester - all I could do was sleep and eat crisps.
BB3 things sound so blissful, can't wait to be where you are now
ipswitch let us know how the classes go

Everything ok here. No real problems or pain etc except my bra hurts me (!) so can't really complain. Am nearly 22 weeks now - where did the time go!?

Have a good weekend everyone - I am painting - and not the nursery - we have 2 rooms to decorate before that one. We'll be busy.

Bit of a non-twins questions - but what is your opinion on baby showers? My lovely friend has offered to org one for me and I am thinking a) that would be lovely and b) no way to I want to be centre of attention and invite people along to something which is basically demanding gifts, feels really cheeky!

hells1908 · 23/09/2011 20:24

Hello bb3 yes, amazing would be one word for it! Totally utterly gobsmacked would be another! I really am a very well brought up young lady...just went off the rails a bit this year, self medicated on a wee bit too much sauvignon blanc, and was therefore SO worried I'd hurt them. But the new dates show that they were conceived the week I came out of hospital and went sailing with DH - so off the booze, the meds, lots of healthy Solent air, and am now trying gentle persuasion on him that, if one of them's a girl, we call her Liberty, which is the name of our boat (which we'll have to get rid of as NO WAY we'll be using that for ages now, so!) Seems a nicely symbolic name. I came so close to a TOP. Was also sure traipsing round South America - loads of strenuous hiking, malaria, yellow fever etc etc - would have nuked them. But they seem to be little fighters. And knowing they're 13 weeks already, seeing their faces, they're fraternal, she kept saying the septum was good, their chords were strong, lengths were good...and now bloods have come back and made the 'score' even better so 1/975. I'm 30 years old again ;) And going to have twins.

Does feel a little like life has started again. 6 month wobble, and now just the best prize of all for getting myself sorted.

Hope life at home is going OK for you and you're getting enough help and cuddles and sleeps and other people cooking you lovely food.

ipswich have had a lazy afternoon today basically ordering every single maternitywear catalogue out there!

hells1908 · 23/09/2011 20:36

Ravenlocks you posted as I was...thanks! I DO wonder - controversial comment warning - how psychosomatic things are. I was 'fine' for the first 3 months. A bit pukey in Peru but put it down to being knackered by all the walking and altitude and sea sickness. No cravings whatsoever. Wasn't even that tired...we were getting up most days at 6 and walking...

Now that I know I'm pregnant, well, worked this morning and then had a 2 hour nap because that was 'the sensible thing to do', demolished an entire family bag of crisps, humous, and a pot of nutella ;)

Dunno. Just I caught myself thinking today, oo, cripes, how on earth am I going to pack up this house and move to another one, way too demanding...and then I thought, listen Madam, you just did the Inca Trail, get on with it!

These words will come to haunt me, I know :)

And that's funny about your bra. Mine is already agony! I foresee a shopping trip...

On the babyshower - lap it up. You'll be doing it for them one day. Would you refuse presents on your birthday? And remember, half the pleasure when it comes to gifting is for the person giving...you make them feel like a considerate, generous person when you smile at their present!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 24/09/2011 00:49

hi, just wanted to lurk a bit as I found out I am carrying twins recently, edd 20th of may.
very early days and with history of mcs U am not ready to get too excited yet, but I wanted to pop in here, as I can't tell anyone IRL yet and having just hosted a big dinner party I am bursting to talk to someone about this...

ipswichwitch · 24/09/2011 16:04

don't worry bb3, i've no intention of going anywhere near pre-pregnancy clothes for some time after birth!! talking about jeans reminded me of a friend who went home in her size 8 jeans (no idea how these people do it) i can't even get most of my pre-pregnancy shoes on as my feet swell so much!! in fact i have major plans to live in pj's for a good week or 2 after :) maybe longer if i can get away with it.......
hi and good luck to stick :)

hells1908 · 25/09/2011 09:56

Hi stickthem! Completely understand the need to share. We're waiting until I've told my DS before we start spreading the word so are under a strict embargo but you do feel like it's about to bubble over!

So bubble away here...

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 25/09/2011 10:52

thank you :)
I wasn't expecting to be having anymore kids in the next few years, ds2 was born at the beginning of may, and I had bad PND, and suffered badly during the pregnancy as well.
I have a genetic condition called EDS, which comes with tissue weakness, joint pain, bruising and increased risk of PROM so this whole thing is scary as hell. no idea how I am going to cope with a twin pregnancy or in fact with twins, but I guess we will have to deal with that if and when we get there..
have another scan on tuesday, when I should be around 7 weeks. I am already so bloated it is ridiculous.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 27/09/2011 10:26

2 little beans measuring 6+5 now :)

ipswichwitch · 27/09/2011 11:08

:) i never get bored of seeing ours on the scans. it's kinda nice getting scanned every 2 weeks so we can see them grow. mind, when ours were about your stage we kept calling them prawns!! (well that's what they looked like in the diagrams in the books we read Grin)
getting lots of bump ache from ligaments stretching at the min. these babies are getting heavy! not sleeping too well - can't get comfy/heartburn/kicky babies, so resorting to afternoon naps with the cat. she has such a cushy life!!

hells1908 · 27/09/2011 11:45

ipswich when you say 'bump ache'...what does it feel like? I have got what feels like a pretty constant stitch on my right hand side, particularly when I get up from sitting down...normal?

My cat has become ridiculously soppy and is sleeping constantly. Can't get him off my tummy/lap. DS thinks he's turned into a hen and is 'keeping the eggs warm'. I think he just likes the extra heat/little heartbeats! Cupboard love...

Told the DS who was grinning from ear to ear which is a blessed relief, though when I said if one was a girl I'd call her Liberty he said that the boy should then be 'Fascism' or 'Dictator' to 'balance it out'...His alternatives were 'Death Bringer' and 'Assassin'.

Yes, he might possibly play too much Xbox...

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 27/09/2011 13:02

at fascism, dictator, assassin ans deathbringer :o

my kitten has taken a permanent spot on my lap already, maybe I am sitting down too much. but good grief, double sickness is awful.

ipswichwitch · 27/09/2011 15:11

hells, it feels like mild period pain, and am only getting it across the bottom of my bump. it comes and goes, but isn't regular - seems to ease when i shift position. have also had a very sharp pain in right side, it woke me up and i had been sleeping on my right. bump had shifted to the right too, and when i got up and started walking about, the twins moved and it eased. when i asked the midwife she said its from ligaments being stretched with them growing/moving about, especially since it's confined to the bump area and isn't spreading round the back. sounds like you may be suffering from the same but worth mentioning to m'wife anyway.
your ds sounds like my kinda lad - fascism!! Grin

ipswichwitch · 02/10/2011 10:11

morning all, hope everyone's been coping with all this heat. have to say it's made me grumpy, too tired and my hands and feet have swelled up like puddings. i must be the only person in the uk praying for the rain we got this morning :)
antenatal class yesterday was pretty good. no scary videos to watch (thank god!) but they explained labour, induction, aftercare and took us on a tour round the delivery suite and ward. was especially chuffed when the mw said i'd be getting the nice big del room with massive bathroom since i'm having twins (obviously providing there's nobody else in there!), and told me we'd have 2 m'wives and a dr looking after us.
since the plan so far is for vb, she did mention that after the 1st twin is delivered i'd probably be given some sort of injection to speed up delivery of the 2nd if things aren't progressing quickly, as sometimes contractions can slow right down/occasionally stop once the first has been delivered. that means all going well delivery of no 2 is usually about 10 min or so after no 1. they did say that sometimes after dt1 is delivered, dt2 can turn as there's extra room, so basically play it by ear. we'll just be preparing ourselves for anything really, and trying to keep an open mind. glad we went, DP is happier knowing more of what to expect too.
