Thought I'd take the plunge and go for it.

Folicacid I have though not as often a couple friends who practically live with their babies in their slings while they are small (so much easier to do stuff around the house with baby right there). If you get a good comfortable one that you can use easily yourself, they can be very useful in the home and out.

I'm not shopping yet, but I do have a growing list on amazon of things I want to buy and keeping my eye on ebay.

Anyone else had any birth dreams? I had my first birth dream for this pregnancy last night and, hormones driving me nuts, I actually felt sad and disappointed at the end when I my brain seemed to realize it was a dream and I would have to leave dream baby behind.

PamSco · 23/05/2011 19:30

NotJust not sure this counts as a birth dream but I saved my OH from a Nazi PoW camp by killing 3 guards (very violently) until I got the right size of uniform to smuggle in to him. When I cut through the wooden perimeter fence and found him he didn't want to wear a dead man's uniform. I demanded he get changed there and then so we could get to the hospital on the 2 motorcycles i'd stolen. Don't need Freud to analyse that one lol!

I was going to find a sling that fit me, not sure that will be an easy ask given the size of me knockers!

Is anyone else suffering from VERY sore nipples? My left feels like it is being pinched in a bulldog clip. Lasts about an hour before it calms down.

Caliphora · 23/05/2011 20:00

CollieandPup That was my 16 week appt. - 1 week late at 17wks!

Basically, she took my BP, checked my wee, squished the belly very briefly, then listened in to the hb.
But, I will add, my mw appts so far have been veeeeery disappointing.
I'd already warned DP that if she didn't listen in to baby this time I'd refuse to leave - last time she told me to wait until we know the baby is alive to use the doppler! Fair point, but not the best way to put it, perhaps.

Am I the only one who feels that they won't take you seriously until you hit some magical "point of no return", which I guess would be 23 weeks?

Caliphora · 23/05/2011 20:02

PamSco - my nipples are -killing- me. Can't walk without bending over in pain for the first 15 minutes - I covered them in Sudocream this morning to help them not rub on the bra so much :(

Folicacid · 23/05/2011 20:26

My nips are agony still, and today on the wind? Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch. Did I say ouch?

I'm on weird mood today, absolutely starving too and not satisfied when I eat fruit and usual snacks. Hohum.

pam totally involved and mad dream Grin

MooseyMoo · 23/05/2011 20:36

Cookie Are you still in pain or have the AB kicked in yet? Hope you are feeling better.

Just realised today that the horrid taste in my mouth has disappeared (prob sometime last week!). Nausea is pretty much gone, as long as I eat small and often but still slightly sore boobs. I think I may be nearing 2nd trimester!! Just need that energy boost as I am still having an afternoon nap.

Seems a bit weird that I'm not getting annoying questions from work mates with this pregnancy (as I'm a SAHM now). The one that really annoyed me was being asked

'Are you going to find out the sex'.
'Hmm, not sure but am leaning more towards yes'.
'Oh, don't do that'.

Why bother asking me if you don't like the answer? I think maybe pregancy hormones were involved in me getting annoyed with the question. But it still vexes me now! Anyone else had any annoying questions they want to share?

Sorry no other shout outs, brain is a bit frazzled today. Haven't 'seen' cep, Dirge or Wuzz recently - hope you are all ok.

BuffyFan · 23/05/2011 20:57

MooseyMoo you're not the only one with a frazzled brain! Definitely mushy over here too. Leaving work on time every night is raising some eyebrows from colleagues, but frankly I've used all my brain power up by lunchtime!

I enjoyed the Baby Show as well - Prima Baby and Pregnancy were offering 2 editions of the magazine for £2, and you got a bag of freebies with them. Frankly that was all the freebies I needed. Other than that I was going mainly for ideas - and to highlight all the things I haven't thought of yet! One step at a time...

I'm definitely going to try washable nappies, especially as they make them so well these days that they're really not any harder to change than disposables. Although there's absolutely a place for both. I was impressed with the eco stuff around at the Show - washable baby wipes (which I did buy) as well as nappies and even if you're not up for washing there were biodegradable wipes and things like that - still disposable but at least not adding to landfill in quite the same way. And dummies, teething toys and so on made of natural rubber so you're not worrying about nasty chemical colours. I have to admit they don't look as fun though!

Poppet45 · 23/05/2011 21:01

Hi all!
Sorry for being out of the loop for a while. Had a trying week. Just had a new bathroom fitted which meant being housebound with DS for a lot of the time and we both do so much better with lots of outdoor time. Then to top it off our lovely tiler came to work at ours just a day after having norovirus. So me and the bub have had norovirus - awful - lost every bit of food in my system within four hours, and I had stomach cramps so bad I had to breathe through them like labour and really feared the worst. Not to mention the dehydration and deflated bump. Between that and lack of kicks I am having a checkup with mw tomorrow as we don't do a 16 appt here so I need to find out that the wee one is okay for my sanity. Especially with what my lovely friend is dealing with. She's been admitted but is hopeful its for days not weeks but they're monitoring her other twin and at the moment no section is imminent. Actually read on here about someone whose other twin was deliver 7 weeks later, great for the baby but surely mentally v bittersweet for the mum. Oh and to top it off in the gales today we've had two trees land in our front garden, am not going to rest easy tonight knowing there's another dozen trees where they came from.
Sorry for whinge: as for slings, can I veto the baby bjorn. Dear lord so uncomfy once baby is older than 6 weeks or so. Oh and the baba sling, DS hated it with a fierce passion. But a big vote for the Papoozle, it's like a cross between a wrap sling and a rucksack style one and has the best of both worlds. We also used cloth nappies until DS was weaned and I can heartily recommend tots bots cotton ones. Just lovely, so easy to use, and really really good value to buy second hand from eBay. If second hand nappies make you squeamish then cloth ones might not be for you Grin. If anyone does decide to use reusables I would recommend they hold off for the first three weeks or so - just while everything is a bit overwhelming, then ease yourself in. You don't want to get put off during the 8 poos a day stage Grin

BuffyFan · 23/05/2011 21:04

Oh and along with the annoying questions, the unsolicited baby advice has started! From the older ladies who start reminiscing about 40 years ago and refuse to admit that medical advice nowadays might have the edge, to the recent mums who all have lists of "essentials" that they can't live without that all come from John Lewis and cost a fortune. It's lovely, and helpful, and kind, but sometimes don't you just want to talk about something else?

I realise how ungrateful that sounds and sorry! It's just that MN has been great and I don't always feel the need to talk about some very personal things (breastfeeding, cracked nipples, yadeyade) with work colleagues who tbh I don't really know that well.

OK, rant over Blush

BuffyFan · 23/05/2011 21:05

Sorry xpost Poppet! Hope you're feeling better and that there's no lasting damage.

PamSco · 23/05/2011 21:40

Poppet best of luck with the scan. Horrid experience for you, my OH had norovirus in Feb hence knowing my due date can't be right! He'd have been sick when the deed happened! Anyways, hope everything is fine - don't worry and get that water topped up.

Buffy my MiL isn't being too "in my day" but she is genuinely interested because when she had the OH she didn't see anyone after the first doctor visit all the way to labour. 40 years has changed a lot!

Poppet45 · 23/05/2011 22:27

Oh god the advice from MIL. mine was convinced that I had invented the list of banned foods - all that was banned in her day was green spuds apparently. I was also accused of creating the term fore milk and hind milk wrt breast milk just to be awkward, and she said the didn't have it in her day. Sigh. She was delighted at once being called a prize jersey cow by her health visitor because of her vast milk supply, told me this just as I was feeling pretty overwhelmed trying to get to grips with BFing and had tried to explain to her that for those of us without such bountiful reserves feeding every two hours or so not the four she was extolling was the best way to build your supply according to today's health visitors. Hmmm think I won't ask her over to help post birth this time! Those 'olden days had it tougher' types tend to gloss over the bit where they got two weeks in hospital and five days solid bed rest after each birth though!!! Not that I'm bitter at all getting three nights tops including one in a HDU. Hmm

chipmonkey · 24/05/2011 00:06

not been on for a few days, hello everyone!Smile

I had a weird dream Saturday night. Dreamt I had the baby and it was a girl, but she was about 3 months old and I couldn't remember having her. And I had called her Margaret, even though I really don't like the name. So I told dh we had to change it and that it was going to be Lily. To have MIL say that she was forbidding me from calling her Lily. It ended with a screaming match between me and MIL. I was so relieved to wake up. Don't know why Margaret and Lily as neither is on my unlikely-to-be-used girl list!

Got another mini-scan today, all looks well but the picture is rubbish. Next visit will be my 20 week scan!Shock Can't believe the time is going so fast.

chipmonkey · 24/05/2011 00:10

Poppet, my MIL drove me mad about four-hour schedules. Didn't help that SIL ff and could stick to a schedule like that so I was basically the loopy DIL who was letting the baby rule the roost. What was annoying was that MIL had had to give up after 6 weeks as her milk "dried up" so her schedule hadn't even worked for her! I really think it's only now after I've had four kids and spent 6.5 years bfing that she finally thinks I might know more than she does about bf!

TerrysNo2 · 24/05/2011 00:20

Folic and Collie the Lifft sling is really easy, it just goes over your shoulder and baby pops in. I have been wearing it with DS (2 and a half) for when he gets a bit too tired to walk or too slow for me! Its heavy with him in it but a newborn will be a breeze. Smile

Am I the only one having ummmm intimate dreams Blush Grin??

Caliphora · 24/05/2011 00:27

The "pointers" from people are driving me mad. "Let baby be baby", "you'll see, you'll be different when you have the baby"... You may be a mother, but you're not me!

As I've said before, I've spent 6 years trying, so it's not like I haven't already done my reading and made decisions about breast feeding and reusable nappies.

sigh

At least I don't have a MiL to make things worse - I would probably have strangled her by now considering past MiL's and their overbearing tendencies...

PamSco · 24/05/2011 00:43

I'm going to defend my MiL - she's lovely and very supportive. My mam on teh otherhand... :) she's ok really but jeez an opinion on everything!

Terry you are not the only one, when I'm not slaughtering the percieved enemy I am being a wee bit naughty in my dreams...

Getting nervous about amnio a week tomorrow. A few people in work have done it with the same woman who is performing mine and they all say she is great. That's the useful info I need :)

goldmaple · 24/05/2011 01:24

Finally read through everthing:) Just got back from a 'babymoon' - DH surprised me as we realized we have not gone anywhere romantic, just the 2 of us, since our honeymoon 4 years ago... was very nice!!

voodoo hope u get an interview!! Def go for it. My mum went back to school when I was very young (don't remember of course) but I've always been very proud of her.

H007 Its my first too and I have a bump now for sure! mashpot but when I went to a baby storeand for mat clothes the store ladies were like 'your not even showing!' - and I hadn't asked! But I see it!

pam my nipples are a bit sore but they are tingling all the time! Very odd (or is that not?)!

poppet hope everything is ok with you! Can't believe you had to deal with that (and poor DS too)

Good luck with all the 16 week scans. Have mine on weds and hope I get to hear bubba's HB again!

PoppysMom · 24/05/2011 02:50

Terry, I have the raunchiest dreams ever! I have no idea where they are coming from, but very Blush when I wake up...
I also have the very violent dreams, where I am a sniper for example, killing loads of people!!

H007 and mashpot I have a proper little bump now. I only noticed it last week and excitedly told and showed DH. His response was "But you've had the bump for a while now". Erm, thanks for telling me..?Hmm

I have my 15 week scan in just over a week and can't wait to see LO. I felt bubs move a few times on Saturday and Sunday, but not since :(

BTW< I am in Singapore, hence I have more scans than you guys :(

PoppysMom · 24/05/2011 03:00

poppet I hope you and bubs and DS are fine

cookie9 · 24/05/2011 08:51

Hope you are feeling better poppet.
Had a bad night so tired and emotional this morning. Have hospital appointment for scan to try to get to bottom of what's causing the pain. Dh has major meeting so can't come with me which was fine until I began to cry this morning. Think I an upset throuGh lack of sleep and news that planes in Scotland are grounded as mum is based there and had offered to fly down to see me.
Unfortunately no sexy dreams for me. Something to look forward to.
Not looked at baby carriers yet but did look at cots. Saw nice one online at mamas and papas but side doesn't drop down so lifting might be an issue.
Tired of older mothers telling me how easy their pregnancies sand breastfeeding were. I think they just have blocked out the bad parts!

Folicacid · 24/05/2011 09:57

Aaaw cookie that all sounds really rough. Nothing like a good greet though, let it come. At least you've got an appt to see what's what as well though. What about a train down to see you, would that work?

Poppet can't believe you have had the norovirus, I hope you get a discount from the tiler! Rest up and hopefully you'll start to get back to fukll strength.

lkane0 · 24/05/2011 10:53

Poor you poppet - hope you're feeling much better now and no more trees have landed in your garden!

Am so reassured by all the positive comments on reusable nappies. I'm keen on them (saving £500? I didn't need any more incentive!), but am getting lots of 'are you mad?' comments from friends. Good tip about maybe not trying it right away though :)

Is anyone else still nauseous? I'm 14 weeks today and still feel like i'm on a rocking boat, but think i'm the only one left now. To make it worse, a lovely girl at work is 4 weeks ahead of me and had NO sickness at all. Jealous!

Hope everyone's well and 16 week check ups going well. What are they checking for at this stage? Wish it was a scan very time :)

Folicacid · 24/05/2011 12:04

Reusable nappies are a funny one for me. I have all but decided not to try them based on the fact that a november baby will mean a lot of tumble drying of nappies. We don't have a tumble drier now, but are planning to get one (for free form a relative).

I have been reading about the carbon footprint of tumble dried reusables as opposed to the dispoables and it's obviously worse.

If I go for the economic argument, I don't see how it stacks up if I've got a tumble drier on either.

So I'm truly on the fence.

lkane0 · 24/05/2011 12:08

I don't have a tumble dryer, and on reading reviews of the different brands I think some types are quicker to dry by hanging up (near a radiator in the winter!) than others, so I'm goingto be reading lots of reviews nearer the time. Am also planning on buying a couple of trial packs of different brands to see which work best for us.
Although whether I'll have the energy / patience to test different ones when it comes down to it is another matter!!
