Shitty shitty shitty week at work so far. Someone give me a virtual foot rub? Although its my mind that needs the rub, not my feet. Ah, rubbish week and could be set to get worse. Still. At least its all at work. If we can all stay ok at home, thats what's important at the end of the day.
Loving the tale of the tummy cuddling two year old. And the holidays. And the healthy scans.
I certainly wouldnt bother setting yourselves up to use a dummy and a nightlight - we've not had either. But we did fit a dimmer switch in my son's bedroom, which is great. And even I can fit a dimmer switch and I have all the technical ability of a horse.
Eugh. Feel rubbish. Got a friend unexpectedly coming to stay with us for a job interview, and then stay over the weekend, and I am so pleased I'm going to have someone around the days I am not at work because left to myself, I fear I would be doing a lot of rumination this week. Also pleased to see her of course!
And lord do I feel like a rubbish mummy right now, all I seem to want to say to my son lately is "mummy is really tired" or "you're hurting mummy" or "please for fucks sake give mummy five minutes of peace". Fortunately my partner is wonderful. Unfortunately my son is mega clingy with me. But also wonderful. I am so grateful for my little family. My little family who started the day with a dance in the kitchen. But will end it, as usual, with a lengthy battle at bedtime.

cookie9 · 14/06/2011 19:43

many thanks for your kind messages as have been feeling a bit low.

Enjoy your holiday mrsA.
Hope you are making to eat something pamsco.

Glad the 16 week appointment went well notjustkangakhan I am quite jealous you got to hear heartbeat!

Been sleeping lots today as tired out. Did read over medical notes and see I have managed to lose weight despite growing bump and boobs.
Also read that placenta is anterior. Anyone else had experience of this?

Have enjoyed reading the lists of ideas and will do my own once feeling better. Was thinking about the Amby cot. Anyone tried it?

Poppet45 · 14/06/2011 20:36

Good shopping list! I'd personally ditch the baby change unit, I've had a couple of friends who've had near and not so near misses with a wee one falling off, and both ditched theirs and started changing their babies on a mat on the floor, which we've always done anyway - its not only the cheaper but also the much safer option. Plus you'll have one less piece of furniture to have to resell or bung in the loft. And nappy sacks, if you're going to use disposables I'd ditch those too, it's just another layer of plastic going to landfill, you can use the sticky tabs on a nappy to fold them into tight secure little parcels so there's no leakage, and the bulk of nappies means you have to empty your bin into the dustbin long before the smell becomes a problem.
My only tip clotheswise would be to buy loads of sleepsuits (the all in ones with sleeves and trouser legs that end in feet) not romper suits (the all in ones with sleeves but trouser legs that end at the ankles) as DS lived in sleep suits for about the first 5 months (he was a real puker) and life is too short to have to keep replacing missing socks. You can put them under sleep suit legs if they need the additional layer and voila they stay on!
I'd love some advice on slings though, we have a Papoozle for when DC is a bit older and a Bushbaby rucksack for when they are a toddler, but I was wondering about something for the teeny tiny constantly feeding stage. I was wondering about a Maya wrap ringsling, is that any good for feeding? and I also liked the look of the Neobulle wrap but wondered if that was a bit too similar to the Papoozle in that it allows to tummy to tummy but not cradle hold? We did have a Baba sling but DS hated it - stuck rigidly out from side to side like a canoe and screamed everytime he went in. Sling gurus do you have any thoughts?

goldmaple · 14/06/2011 21:10

Do already-mums recommend night gowns for the first bit until the cord falls off (was told that this is best) - think the night gown just means that it is long and open at the bottom and can be folded over.

lk Congrats (on scan and marriage)! Your dress sounds lovely:) glad your scan went well.

Wish me luck - my scan is tomorrow!

bumpandisaacsmum · 14/06/2011 21:11

Having a really low day today :( Struggled to get through work, picked DS up from after school club (though he'd left school jumper, summer hat, lunchbox, watch at school....and was filthy). Instead of a fun evening DS had an early night and since he's been in bed I've sat & cried :( need to pull myself together, just not sure where to start....

Hmmm.....shopping lists.....

  • Pushchair/pram - have new
  • Car seat - have from DS
  • Moses Basket - have new
  • Cot - have from DP
  • Nappies, reusable - have from DS/from friend
  • Clothes - have from DS/sister, though will get some new once baby here
  • Bouncy chair - have from DS
  • Play mats/gyms - have from DS/sister
  • Changing mat - may need new (think my sister has broken it!!)
  • Baby bath - have from DS
  • Changing bag - NEED, not seen one I like yet
  • Steriliser & bottles - have from DS/sister
  • Breast pump - have from DS
  • Babt Monitor - ?? have from DS
  • Dummies - will have a couple in case need, think my sister giving me some
  • Sling - ??? may get one, though not sure what type
  • Bedding - have from DS
  • Towels - have from DS (used to put on changing mat as well as for baby)

Was good to distract myself with that, thanks ladies. Seems I don't have too much to shop for (:) for saving money but :( for not many exciting shopping trips)

Hope others are well x x

:o for good appts, scans, holidays & weddings

MooseyMoo · 14/06/2011 21:23

Different angle on change table and nappy sacks! I am still using my changing table even though DD's legs hang over the edge. She does not roll on it yet she rolls all over the place when changed on the bed. I decided to have a change table because of my bad back (which was bad in pregnancy) and didn't fancy having to bend over.

Nappy sacks only started really using them when I weaned DD and when teething kicked in because good grief there was some evil toxic smells that needed to be contained!

Anyone else finding it depressing going to bed when it is still really light outside?!?

MooseyMoo · 14/06/2011 21:26

Really should refresh before I post!

Maple Good luck for your scan tomorrow.

Bump sorry you're having a low day. I think you need to start with chocolate, as one of these Wine is out for the moment

chipmonkey · 14/06/2011 21:45

Finally got the results of my nuchal/bloods and it's not as good as I was hoping, although not terrible either. 1: 189 for downs which is a lot better than the 1: 43 they say it should be for my age but my result for ds4 was 1: 2000 which was much more reassuring. Instinct tells me not to go for the amnio as I think it's possible that my lost twin may have put up my free beta HCG levels but I'm still a tad worried.Sad

NotJustKangaskhan · 14/06/2011 23:27

goldmaple Yes, baby nightgowns are brilliant - I keep mine in baby gowns as much as possible for ease and comfort.

PoppysMom · 15/06/2011 01:38

chipmonkey sorry for not so good results :(
I am only just 26 and my risk based on age alone came back 1:867!! How does that work?!
Even with the bloods and nuchal together I only manage a 1:980 :(

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 15/06/2011 06:39

Chipmonkey, as my midwife said to me, even with fairly low stats, the chance of being that one is very slight, have you had a chance to talk to anyone about what you might do yet? Maybe counselling is a good idea to help you figure out what you would feel best doing?

Re shopping, I have been lucky to arrange to buy a pram and some nappies second hand, a friend has been very generous with hand me down clothes and my sister in law has given me her nappies too so have a bunch of stuff already. I've been buying a few things in the supermarket every couple of weeks, stuff like baby wash and talc, so have a growing pile of baby things in the cupboard of the room we will use as a nursery. As soon as the 20 week scan next week if we hear that baby H is growing properly etc I have a bunch of things to get, all listed by month to spread the cost a bit!

cep · 15/06/2011 07:49

morning ladies

goldmaple good luck for scan today. i didn't use night gowns just had him in the little night suits/ pyjamas whatever they're called.

bumpand sorry you're feeling so low, i hope you had a good night sleep and are feeling better today. i also have hardly anything to buy. miss all the excitement buying stuff, although i may give in and get some newborn stuff and if it's a girl i'll have to go and get loads of bigger baby stuff. I find at the moment it's my temper that's getting the emotion, i keep getting so frustrated with ds he never listens and does as he's told and i'm finding it difficult to cope at the moment.

chip sorry the results are lower than expected. what have you decided to do?

another thing on the table, i didn't have one no space, i just used the mat on floor or if my back started hurting i changed on the puffy.

Katiebeau · 15/06/2011 08:26

Chip sorry to read you got results which concern you. ARC might help you decide if you want to go for an amnio or not. I don't have the link to hand but it comes up on the antenatal tests topic all the time. They are there just to give you support and information, they don't push you in to any sort of decision you're not comfortable with.

Cep I too have less patience with DD. Hanging on to my rattyness by a thread as she isn't always doing anything irritating to be honest, it's just me when I haven't been able to sleep. It's not going to get better once baby arrives either!! Starting to sink in what we'll have to juggle.

I had a changing station from my DS (shoe horned into the nursery to be honest). It was a life saver for me as bending over on the floor even for a short time hurts. The higher edge meant DD shouldn't fall off but I didn't leave her for a second once she could roll at all just in case. This sometimes meant carrying pooey baby somewhere to get something!

Bump I hope you're feeling better today.

chipmonkey · 15/06/2011 10:22

Thanks foks, it doesn't help that I'm in Ireland and I really think the HCPs here are not great for offering different tests/counselling. In some ways it would be easier if it was a worse result like 1:9 because in that case I would definitely want a CVS/amnio but after all the hassle with this pregnancy and losing the twin, I am not sure that I want to risk another MC. God, why couldn't it be easy?

PoppysMom · 15/06/2011 10:55

:( Sorry chip.
Have some hugs

cep · 15/06/2011 15:54

chip have they suggested anything. Did they give any advice?

My ringsling arrived today. have been scouring you tube clips on putting it on. Just wish i had a little baby to practise on now. Grin

chipmonkey · 15/06/2011 18:21

No, just a letter in the post, cep. I think they may have tried to phone me because my mobile number is scribbled at the bottom of the letter. When I had the NT test, she did tell me that the only result that's 100% is CVS but advised of the risk of MC.
I am having an anomaly scan in a week and a half but may phone the doc beforehand to discuss things with her

LizzyMathsWhizzy · 15/06/2011 19:38

I'm not having a great day either, I've possibly broken my foot, but NHS won't xray me to find out, so they've stuck me in a bandage and told me to go back in a couple of days if it still hurts so they can put it in a cast. Its my own fault, a kid at school was rocking on his chair and I told him to sit properly as I walked behind him. He put the chair straight down on my foot with his full weight. It really hurts, and I don't really want to take the pain killers, I think I'll leave it until bed time, just to help me get to sleep. Thats all I need, I was fainting all day yesterday, and the morning sickness still hasn't gone away at 18 weeks.

chipmonkey · 15/06/2011 19:46

Oh, Lizzy, I almost yelped when I read your post! That must be so painful!

dirgeinvegas · 15/06/2011 20:47

Oh chip I'm sorry you're going through this worry. Did they tell you what your best result could be? They told me when I had my NT what my max ratio would be/best odds for my age + blood so I had something to compare the results to.

Your chances are still less than 1% if it helps to look like that? In fact, 0.5% really xx

juststarting · 15/06/2011 22:19

Sorry about the worrying results Chip, and the foot, Lizzy. The foot will heal, one whether its broken or not. I've actually had breaks heal much faster than sprains. And talk to the doctor Chip, see what they say.
My week is going from bad to worse to be honest. Work has been a nightmare this week and now my son is sick and I am freaking out about it and I am NOT a happy lady at all tonight, I want my mummy and I want to just stick my head in the sand until it all goes away.

goldmaple · 16/06/2011 01:43

Really sorry to hear about everyone who's having a rough time!
lizzy hope your foot gets better soon and that the ms stops (18 weeks is way more than enough!!) Have you been looked at for the fainting? wats causing it?

Chip really sorry that you are having a tough time. sounds very odd that they tell you by mail. Will the anomaly scan provide more information? if it is only 1.5 wks away maybe that will help you decide? (sorry i know 1.5 wks feels like forever)

Some good news here... Had 19 week scan and it looks like we'll be on the pink team:) Baby girl(still thinking of a nickname) was no overly cooperative but had no boy parts and we got a pretty good look. Other than that everything was good, she was moving around a lot (still can't really feel it). trying to think of a good way to tell our families

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon!

PoppysMom · 16/06/2011 03:02

juststarting really sorry you are having a really rubbish week. I had one like that last week. Stress was so bad that I just sat here crying! (thank god for my own office!!)
Have a big and hopefully a better rest of the week

Lizzy ouch! Hope your foot gets better soon :(

goldmaple Congratulations on a good scan and pink baby :)
Not sure of a good way to tell family, as I just called round ours (live far away). MIL guessed before we could tell her! She also guessed I was pregnant before we could tell her. She's a psychic I think :)

Staceroo · 16/06/2011 08:27

Morning all,

Lots of us having pretty crappy times at the minute! Nothing majorly wrong here in the grand scheme of things, just feeling a bit shitty with work etc! Trying to take an 'i dont care' attitude but not easy!

Guess we all need to remember what's coming at the end of being crappy and emotional.

See we finally have a couple of girls coming after it seeming like all boys for a while!

Chip, can't offer any advise re amnio decision etc as didn't have any tests at all ourselves. But defo suggest looking on the relevant threads on here.

Lizzy, really hope your foot isn't broken :-(

Has anyone been for their free dentist appointment yet... i did the other day as worried about my gums bleeding a lot since pg, she didnt seem too worried about it though.

Nothing else to report.

cep · 16/06/2011 09:40

chip i hope the scan will be able to settle some worrys. Definately have a chat with her and see what she says. keeping fx for you

staceroo i have beeb for a couple already, i'm getting a couple of bridges done, while it's all free i'm getting what i can.

I'm so sorry so many of you are having a tough time at the moment just think we only have about 3-4 months left then mat leave.

lizzy i literally winced when i read your post, please tell me it was a 5 yr old not a 15 yr old. i really hope the pain fades soon.
