hi guys, I have been keeping up with everyone's posts. Sorry to hear some of you are having a hard time of it with appointments and hospital treatment by staff. I feel quite lucky with my treatment so far, everything going smoothly. I had a growth scan last week which went well, showing average growth and head circumference spot on, so hopefully averaged sized head = less pain on delivery Hmm.

I have had some weird visual disturbances recently, four episodes of blurred peripheral vision lasting half hour each with no other symptoms, mentioned this and they think it is just related to the excess fluid in the body which can also build up in the eyes. Thankfully BP has been fine so not worried about it being anything else, more of an irritation really.

Just got last few things to get for nursery, and then can wash baby clothes and put away. Continuing with ante-natal classes which I'm enjoying (had a nice relaxation session with the physio last week), and splashing around in the pool at aqua-natal which is good fun.
Hope everyone had a good weekend x

Hersetta · 26/06/2011 18:52

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather today, but managing to stay nice and cool.

I am definitely under the weather and seemed to have picked up a bug. Have a temperature and go from freezing cold with uncontrollable shivering to sweats to feeling Ok when the paracetamol has kicked in.

DH wants me to go to the dr's tomorrow if I still feel this way - what do you think? Baby is kicking well so he appears to be OK in there.

KLou111 · 26/06/2011 19:57

Hi all, hope you've had good weekends?

Went out last night for a few drinks with DH and a curry take away which was good. Went to the loo in the pub, washed my hands, walked out the door, and had to go back in and have another wee!! Bubs well and truly in the bladder area! Was knackered last night TBH after my day of painting, but we've got to make the most of it!

I'm looking for a bouncy chair at the mo and have found a fisher price one (link a doos I think it's called) infant to toddler, but the reviews are really bad, as the baby can rock itself out!! I think it was MrsV that posted a link to one that was half price in Argos but the link doesn't work anymore so they must've stopped that one, whichever it was!

Painting going well. Had to put 4 coats, yes 4 COATS!! on newly plastered stuff, so lounge ceiling now done, 1 more coat to do on wall of lounge, stairs and landing which I'll do tomorrow. Have glossed bathroom door and surround, and put 2 coats on 3rd bedroom ceiling so will put the other 2 on tomorrow and start the walls in there. Bathroom ceiling plaster not dry yet. Finally looking like we're getting somewhere. Decided to do a feature wall in the lounge behind the stove, the same colour as the new sofas we've yet to order (burgundy). We got a swatch sample of the colour, so will try and match up with it, the rest is all cream.

So been busy here!! Mum been telling me off for doing too much and to watch my BP doesn't rise, but I've been having breaks so not being too bad.
THEN, IT'S THE NURSERY!!!! Hopefully we can get it emptied Thursday/Friday and crack on, but don't really want my mum and dad staying in a room freshly painted when they come next weekend, cos it'll stink, so may not change the rooms around til next week :)

Hersetta I'd see how you are in the morning, might be worth a phone call to Dr's to see if there is anything bad going around :)

Wow KLou ...you have made me tired just reading about your painting activities! Well done you Grin Hope you haven't over done it!

My BP is high and due for another check in the morning. Felt really crap yesterday, was blaming tablets...but feel sooo much better today. It might just be that the BP is coming down and I have rested on MW's orders more this weekend. After a day of sitting in garden (in shade!) reading book on birth (really good actually - Jenny Smith's 'your body, your baby, your birth'. Helped me write some questions ready for hospital tour next week and get my hospital bag list written. Nearly there, just need to put it together. ) ...sorry rambling, I felt much better so treated myself to short walk in forest with DH and beloved dog :)

DH got nursery carpet down and furniture in. The cot is up! Didn't bother re-painting walls, looks ok with bits in. It feels so much better to have a room for baby's stuff. I can go through it now and get organised properly.

Hope you feel better tomorrow hersetta Can't hurt to ring doc to check if you still feel awful.

Leilandri · 27/06/2011 09:48

Klou I have the link-a-doo's baby to toddler rocker, and it is ACE! My DS loved it, and was so useful for weaning him. I don't see how baby can rock out of it, as it is only rocked under supervision. Once bubs has dropped off there is a leg that pulls out which stabilises it, and it vibrates away nicely, giving you hands free time to enjoy a Brew (or sneaky Wine!!) once bubs is more mobile, it makes an excellent aid to cruising as it is a good height, and my DS could push it across the floor too, so it doubled up as a walker Wink

Not much to add from me except that I am going to see BON JOVI TONIGHT!!!!!! Grin and will then be going up to Lancashire for the rest of the week, so hope all ges well with everyone xx

ohanotherone · 27/06/2011 10:50

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is cool in this VERY hot weather. I wish I could get on and sort everything out rather than lurk on Mumsnet. Take care everyoneXXXX

CappuccinoCarrie · 27/06/2011 13:40

Klou if you mix some PVA glue with cheap white emulsion and slap that on the newly plastered walls first then the paint doesn't soak in and you don't need as many layers. The difference between our extension which was primed with PVA and the utility room which wasn't is very obvious in terms of quality of finish.
Urgh its hot. Tbh I think I'd be struggling anyway, pg or not, but it gets you more sympathy!
Need to make my 34wk appt with the mw for next week. Haven't seen her since 26wks, but my visits go to fortnightly now I think. My maternity notes are a bit crispy now as I spilled the pint of water by my bed on saturday and soaked them as they were directly in the line of fire Blush

KTisPG · 27/06/2011 15:50

BP back to normal now. Phew - must have been the excitement of my first NCT coffee morning in ages :o

davidtennantsmistress · 27/06/2011 19:27

how was the bon jovi concert?

have been feeling very very sorry for myself this end, the doctor this am has taken me off of spatone & reduced my iron tablets- apparently i'm one of those lovely random people who feels total shite with more iron unless it's a blood transfusion (shouldn't joke but bloody typical!) anyhow, was sat in his office again in tears, they're watching me closely now for the depression, but basically has said yup, you're exhausted have a week off work - infact start your maternity leave now (or shall I sign you sick?) thankfully however I convinced him i'll do a week's self cert... Hmm prob not... and will see how I go, it's year end on Thursday my accountants are due in in 2 weeks and the finance director is over me like a rash, plus I flunked my first assignment of my new course- well tutor says it wasn't but it was to me) - year 3 of my degree so have decided to defer that as the next assignment would be my due date - hmmm yes ok then! lol.

anyhow, DP has been good today indulging my cravings (read that as got me a mcdonalds cheese burger & is currently out buying raspberrys meringues and cream. :o) we had words as apparently he's not a mind reader, but well when a girl is upset she wants a hug god damn it she doesn't want to sit there and not have a good old hug.

and finally the dog on Friday was diagnosed with a lump in his testical and anal furunculosis, which apparently is incurable but we can manage it, he's going in for an op next week fingers crossed he pulls thru it.

anyhow better run sorry it's a rant/moan. hope all is well.

KLou111 · 27/06/2011 20:21

Cap that's what I did do with the PVA, still needed 4 coats! the 3rd was almost there, just patchy in places.

Got the curtains back up in the lounge this evening, looks like a 'proper' room now. Can't wait for DH to lay the flooring, hopefully next week :)
Just 2 coats on 3rd bedroom walls, and bathroom ceiling to start now woohoo!!
Carpet fitter coming tomorrow evening to check we can get the landing and 3rd bedroom out of it, then he's coming Weds/Thurs to fit it if so.

Leil which link a doos have you got? It's the new one they are moaning about. I thought that about the supervision thing, but I suppose you can't watch them the whole time ie if you make a cuppa, and that's perhaps when babies are rocking themselves out, not sure.

Sorry about your dog DTM :( hope he's not in any pain

Hello all, I'm back from holiday so just marking my place on all my threads before I do a mega catch-up:) Hope everyone is well.

LifeOfKate · 28/06/2011 08:37

Hi all, it's hard to catch up when you've not read this thread in a few days!

I had my consultants appt on Friday morning, he has given me the go-ahead for a vaginal birth! A bit of a surprise as I had psyched myself up for an ELCS, so got to get my head around all the pain of contractions again now! Also not overly thrilled at the prospect of potentially another 3 weeks of pregnancy (especially if it is this kind of heat!!), but hey ho. Consultant said that if I tear again, he would come and repair it himself, even if he is not at work that day :) Overall it's great news though, the thought of not being able to lift anything or drive for 6 weeks afterwards with a toddler and a newborn was terrifying me!

RugbyWidow7 · 28/06/2011 11:01

That's great news Lifeofkate - lucky you. That's a big fear - who is going to do the sewing up and will they be careful and make a good job. V Envy you're getting a consultant!

Klou, what is a labour aid mouth guard? Noticed it's arrived for your hospital bag but have no idea what one is. Do I need one? Hmm

We're fully into wedding season here with two down this month and one to go. They're so lovely, but not the same as they used to be pre pregnancy. Also tired of trying to glamorise the wearing of a tent!!!!!!

Annie456 · 28/06/2011 11:54

Great news about the vaginal birth lifeofkate! And yes - what's this mouth guard business? I really need to get my hospital bag packed with 2 months exactly until my EDD!!!

I've been lurking but not posting recently - I'm just so grumpy from lack of sleep. I had the parents down last weekend and we were doing DIY and going for long walks and it really tired me out. I thought i'd sleep no problem but with the heat I just couldn't. It's been 3 nights of around 3 hours sleep per night now and i'm getting desperate.

I also ended up calling my midwife yesterday about feeling less movement over the past few days (i'm probably too tired to notice!!) and he sent me straight in to the hospital to get checked. I told them I could still feel movements but they were less frequesnt and not as strong (which isn't right for 31 weeks). I was monitored for about an hour and LO was moving CONSTANTLY! I felt like such an idiot but I just couldn't feel most of them. Perhaps because of the way the baby was laying. I just wanted to get out of there once I knew it was ok and stop wasting their time!!!! Me and DH were completely shattered by the time we got out. On a positive (not that the end result of the movements isn't positive!) she thinks the baby is laying diagonally but with head down and doesn't think s/he will move drastically from that position now Smile
Sorry for the rant, I'm exhausted! Brew

ohanotherone · 28/06/2011 12:07

I did that too too Annie, still a bit embrassed, but better safe than sorry!!!

What is the mouthguard business, relaxing the jaw, tongue and mouth and anywhere else you can helps during labour, I would defininatley stay away from biting down on something as that will increase muscular tension and probably increase the perception of pain. I have a vague academic interest in pain control at a Masters Level.

coastgirl · 28/06/2011 12:10

RugbyWidow, I know how you feel about the weddings! Went to a really fun family one that lasted all weekend - I enjoyed it but I was very tired mid-day and had to slope off for a snooze, plus got a bit fed up I couldn't drink and looked like a barn door on all the photos.

Anyone else getting achy ribs when they sit down? I think I have feet wedged up under there and it's very uncomfortable.

Yukana · 28/06/2011 13:25

LifeofKate Yes I also have trouble keeping up with all the posts if I haven't read any in a few days! Fantastic news about the vaginal birth go ahead, and it sounds like you have a lovely consultant. :)

Coastgirl I did have sore ribs a while back, I think it was due to LO taking a liking to that spot and she'd lay a part of her body there. Perhaps give the bump a gentle poke and see if she moves? I found it helped at times. :)

DP starts his new job soon, very excited and nervous at the same time, I hope it goes well for him. We've finally, finally found a place to live, touchwood of course.

We're hoping we can get a grant so we can buy a sofa, a shower for the place, etc as we don't really have any money for those things at the moment. My SPD has gotten worse so not having a shower in the place means I won't be able to wash without DP there to help me out of the bath! :( As for the sofa, sitting on the bed all the time is not doing great for my pelvis, and I'm in pain all the time. Walking, shifting, standing up, and doing daily activities has become more painful than ever and so I'm taking it easy. If we have some money left over I think we'll use it to put laminate flooring throughout the place (which DP or DGF will fit) as the carpet is stained, ugly and coming apart.

I can see myself making the house a home for our small family however, which is something. That's enough for me. :) We also have a lovely - not to mention responsible - neighbour.

On the other side of things, the hospital is a stones throw away from our house. Which is great, but they don't do complications and they don't have a birth pool. So, I will need to travel 20+ miles/an hour+ away to get to the hospital that does both, probably by taxi.

My family keep saying 'But you can go to the hospital next to you, isn't that great?' But am I being selfish to want to give birth in the hospital I would like to give birth in? (And have planned to give birth in since I became pregnant) Some advice on how to handle family pressure on this issue would be fantastic.

Yukana · 28/06/2011 13:27

Forgot to mention, my iron levels have gone up, so no being whisked off to the hospital anymore for drip iron transfusions. :) Ferritin level went from 6 to 31 (normal range) and haemoglobin went from 8.8 to 10.4.

alibaba76 · 28/06/2011 14:14

Coastgirl Yep achy ribs here too - on the right hand side only. I too think there is a foot wedged up there. Not very comfortable, especially when I've eaten, like just now!

littlemisslozza · 28/06/2011 14:29

LifeofKate great to hear that your appt went well Smile. The no driving for 6 weeks is a myth though (think it hails from the days before power steering existed), I was driving after 10 days with my ELCS with DS2, funnily enough exactly the same as after the forceps birth with DS1. You just have to check with insurance who tell you to check with Dr/Midwife but I felt normal after a week and gave it a few extra days to be sure. The no lifting is hard though, I'm not looking forward to that bit but am lucky to have family nearby to help and DS2 is being trained up on using a step for some things! Your consultant sounds lovely by the way!

Yukana pleased that things seem to be falling into place for you.

Hi to everyone else too, too many things to comment on them all, sorry!

I have my consultant appt on Thursday when I should get a date for my ELCS, very excited. Pleased that I will also get seen more regularly now as I've hardly had any appts in recent months which I know is normal for 2nd/3rd pregnancies but is frustrating.

majormoo · 28/06/2011 14:37

I have the aching rib thing too. It was my daughter's first communion on Sat so we had loads of family over and I was exhausted and ribs were killing me by the end. Still we had a lovely day and she looked angelic! Ths

majormoo · 28/06/2011 14:42

I have the aching ribs thing too. Had my daughter's first communion on sat so had loads family over. I was exhausted and ribs killing me by the end. Still it was a lovely day and she looked angelic. This baby keeps swapping from breech to head down so am assumingng the rib pain is when the baby is breech.
This morning had the longest and hottest sports day ever. Felt like I was going to faint it was so humid. DD son two races and dh team won the parents tug of war so was worth it. Luckily I was exempt from parent races. Heat has now broken with huge thunder storm.in time for school pick up.

majormoo · 28/06/2011 14:43

Whoops not sure what happened with the double post!

Annie456 · 28/06/2011 16:22

Oooh I just had to share this (although I can't remember who was getting excited about the bunting with me?!!) www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/jun/27/bunting-the-new-cupcakes
I've just got a whole load of fabric off-cuts from my nan so now we know what we're having I can start sewing!!!!
