Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

NoToast - congrats to your friend! And Grin at you HAVING bikini trimmers AND using them on the cat!!

Lisascat - what awful timing, but I would say do the course because points do hike up your premium. I personally would wait and turn up with baby!!

BPrincess - I hope you and your DH have a lovely day Smile

Heartburn - I am taking liquid Gaviscon, the mint one as I hate aniseed. I get it on prescription. Going through gallons of the stuff!

Still waiting in for my HB pack, no idea when they are dropping it off! All this talk of cake though is making me Envy as no cake in the house!

petitech · 19/05/2011 12:05

Just had mw appt and asked about lots of movement, no prob at all, in fact a positive thing so unfortunately the disco dancing might be a sign of things to come :)

Kara Maybe you could make a cake - self raising flour, butter/marge, eggs and caster sugar (though ordinary will work at a pinch) if you make fairy cakes they only take 10-12 mins in the oven too. then you will go from Envy-->:o

petitech maybe it is something you ate? lots of sugar recently?

I can't wait for this baby to come so I stop feeling sick all the time grrrrr!

PerpetualProvocateur · 19/05/2011 12:39

It?s been a fast-moving couple of days on this thread!

Congratulations on the birth of your DD Moufflon, and so pleased you had such a nice birth experience. It?s great that you managed to get through with just TENS and gas and air despite being induced!

Kara, hooray for the green light for your homebirth! It must be a relief to be able to plan to do this the way you wanted to.

Millie and Moog, as for the heartbeat rate-gender link, mine is definitely a boy (we saw his male bits very clearly ourselves before the ultrasound tech confirmed!), and his heartbeat has been very consistent at 150. Not sure if it?s different for different people?

TTL, I know what you mean as I have also been feeling quite clingy to DH lately. He?s been fantastic, which makes me really emotional these days!

Gillz, sorry about your GD, but great that you caught it. A bit Shock that you had to fight to be taken seriously, but good that you did!

Sorry to those with more than their fair share of late pregnancy niggles and more serious complications, and to those with DPs/DHs/DCs who are making their lives more difficult at the moment!

I had my 36-week GP appointment at 35+6 today. My baby is in the optimal position and 3/5 engaged, so everything?s looking good at the moment! My MW is meant to come around next week for a home visit to discuss our plans for a homebirth (I just brought it up at my last MW appointment at 34 weeks, and it wasn?t my usual MW, so haven?t talked it through with her yet). But the other MW and my GP have said there is no reason I shouldn?t be able to do this at home. I?ve got the birth pool and kit here and TENS hire organised, so am ready except for the MW?s kit.

I?ve also finally got all the essential baby stuff collected, although I still need to wash clothes and linens and put things away in the nursery. All of the furniture is here and assembled (thanks to DH), except the gliding chair and footstool, which I?m expecting next week. All in all, I?m feeling quite ready!

Don?t forget your pelvic floor exercises (and perineal massages if you?re doing them)!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/05/2011 12:49

Yes I could make cake...

It's all happening here, PP. I am expecting my Entonox to be delivered any time, have just had a call from the porters Grin

No sign of my HB box though.

takethatlady · 19/05/2011 13:00

joannezipan diarrhoea and cleaning?! How many weeks are you?! I sense someone else might be about to pop!

My baby is not kicking so much today. I hate the quiet days. Especially as yesterday a trainee mw couldn't find the heartbeat directly - only through the placenta (does that even make sense??!!). Anyway, she has kicked, but I'm jealous of all you ladies with the baby gymnastics!

Working from home and waiting for nursery furniture to arrive. Mamas and Papas said 10-1.30. No sign yet though.

Do other people talk about birth preferences and stuff with their mws then? Had my 34 week appointment yesterday and it was the same as all the others - wee test (trace of protein, apparently, though mw wrote 'no concerns' on the notes), blood pressure, feel for position of baby, listen for hb. Off you go. She asked me if I'd had swelling yesterday, which was a new question, but really the conversations last a minute or two at best!

79monica · 19/05/2011 13:12

Lisascat I got some speeding points a few years ago before they offered the option of a course instead and when I renewed my insurance I expected it to go up lots but it didn't. The insurance co told me that it wouldn't have an impact on my premium until I had more than 3 points. I don't know if different companies have different rules, or if the reason for the points determines whether your premium goes up or not, or maybe if things have just changed since when I got my points. It might be worth doing some quotes on a comparison site with points and without to see the difference on your premium?

Has anyone else got really sore ribs? I can't work out if it is because there isn't much space left for the baby and so it is pushing upwards instead of outwards, or if it is because all of my bras have suddenly become too tight(!) Yesterday it was so painful that I had to swap my bra for a tankini top to reduce the pressure on my ribs!

6.5 days left of work until ML starts, not that I'm counting down or anything....

takethatlady · 19/05/2011 13:24

Thanks 79monica for that - I think I'll check with my insurance provider too before I force myself to sit through the bloody course at full term! Aren't we a little bunch of speeders on this thread?! Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/05/2011 13:55

79Monica I have sore ribs. combo of to small bras and baby kicking the hell out of me. Grin They aren't sore all the time thankfully, but it's definately a refleif to get undressed at night.

TTL your 34 week appt sound very much like mine questionwise. It was very get me in and out as soon as possible Hmm

I was also thinking the upset tum might mean Joanne's Ninja baby might have gotten fed up with stealth mode and me preparing for an early entrance. Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/05/2011 13:56

What the F is a refleif?!! relief, it's a relief.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/05/2011 13:59

I think it must vary then, at 34 weeks my MW booked another appointment with me at home to discuss the birth plan.

I have my HB pack and the Entonox is being delivered at 3:45pm!

Joanne - ooh could you be ready to go

Joannezipan · 19/05/2011 14:03

Confessions and TTL Nah i'm only 36 weeks according to the scans...and nothing else is going on so I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was just an upset tummy. If I puke my sandwich up then I might call the MW for a chat! and then fill my birthpool (or summon DH to do it for me!). Although thinking about it I did actually contemplate cleaning the oven a second ago...can I do that while pg or is it super dangerous?

LisasCat · 19/05/2011 14:08

ttl we're just very busy ladies with important places to be! Speed limits are for normal people.

Which we clearly are not.

Wine
Joannezipan · 19/05/2011 14:08

x-posts - Kara live action labour thread??? Won't I have more to think about than MN??? o_0

takethatlady · 19/05/2011 14:15

joanne I told DH it was dangerous for me to clean the oven so he's going to do it tomorrow evening Grin (I have no idea whether that is true or not but who cares?!)

8rubberduckies · 19/05/2011 14:16

Good luck tomorrow Nurse, what time is your test?

Petitech IMO you certainly don't have to wait for baby's jabs to take them out to baby groups. Its not a silly question, as some people would probably argue that you should go careful before jabs, but then again some people don't immunise their children at all. A friend of mine was shocked that I even took my ds to the local shop before his jabs, but then she is slightly mad a little highly strung, and hasn't started breeding yet Grin.

Oh, I forgot to say earlier on as well, I am still in the breech club. I have a consultant's appt next Tuesday to discuss birth options. I have decided not to have her manually turned, as apparently the success rate is very low and they often turn back even if it is successful. I would probably give it a go anyway, but its also meant to be very "uncomfortable" Confused. I don't know what to do at the moment in regards to asking for a caesarean or not -if she is breech still in a couple of weeks I think I will, but now my chiro is saying that I should consider one anyway because I am suffering so much with SPD and coccyx problems now. She is very pro-natural birth, so it came as a bit of a shock when she said that to me yesterday. Arrrrgh, a very difficult decision!

Jer79 · 19/05/2011 14:47

Hi,

Congratulations Moufflon!!

Is anyone else being lined up for an elcs? It's due to a very simple medical thing, nothing scary, but looking very likely now at 39 weeks. I wondered if I'm the only one on here looking at this prospect? I'm feeling really fine about it tbh - best thing for the baby for sure.

Jer79 · 19/05/2011 14:47

Jer79 · 19/05/2011 14:49

Grrrr to slow internet and double post. Sorry about that.

takethatlady · 19/05/2011 15:04

Sorry jer79 I don't think I'm going to be in the ELCS camp, though I'm 34+4 so you never know. Glad you're feeling happy about it - sounds like it's the best option.

I have another question I meant to ask earlier and that I'm afraid to ask NCT leader/mw. I'm not planning to drink lots while bfing, obviously, but I did wonder ... if, for instance, I went to a wedding or something and the baby was being looked after by one of our parents (we have no plans to do this btw - purely hypothetical), and I decided to have a few glasses of wine (and maybe a few turned into a few too many) - if I had expressed plenty of milk beforehand and assuming the baby was taking expressed milk from the bottle, would that be fine? I've read that it takes 2 hours for one unit to leave your body, so you'd have to wait the relevant time to breastfeed again and be sure there was no alcohol left in your system. But everything I google about this seems to say 1) it's fine to have the odd drink and 2) your milk doesn't store alcohol so there's no need to 'pump and dump', and nothing seems to even countenance the possibility of storing up some expressed milk if you're planning to have a few drinks (obviously you'd only drink if you weren't in charge of the baby, of course).

Don't want to ask this question in RL as it looks like I'm gagging for a drink when I'm not! But it would be good to know - have other people planned ahead and managed the odd boozy night out while BFing?

Just chased up my missing cot furniture - at least another hour to wait. They weren't planning on telling me that my slot had been changed from 10am-1.30pm to 1.30-4pm, and that they're running late in the new afternoon slot too

misshoohaa · 19/05/2011 15:10

Thanks petitech I didn't think the constant movements would be a bad thing but sometimes the weird stuff does trigger pregnancy paranoia! A sign of things to come you said? I am sure the baby is moving down lower as some new pains in the last few days so I guess it's getting ready!
I've been doing some visualisation the last few days which I've been really enjoying, just trying to visualise my cervix opening etc so perhaps its all linked!? Who knows.

AlmightyCitrus · 19/05/2011 15:11

Gosh, I've not checked in for a couple of days! Haven't you all been busy! Grin I've just scanned through. I'll have a proper read later.

Massive congratulations moufflon.

Watch yourself Joannezipan D&V can set you off you know! 2 of my DC's have been a bit ill, and being the wonderful mother I am, I've been waddling running away and leaving them to it, and shouting instructions from a distance!

I seem to have lost all the old baby clothes. I know where it was stored, and I'm sure I didn't bin any but there's hardly anything there, Confused
just a few bits and bobs, so it was off shopping today for babygrows. All I wanted was a few plain white ones. Nothing special. Just white....or cream even, but no. Everything seems to be pink or blue.
I eventually found a "starter set" in BHS so I've gone for that. We've lost the steriliser too, so I had to get another one of those! (nuby, £10 in boots)
Ho Hum!

I'm another with a very lively bump. People keep saying that they can see bits of it moving, and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm so bloody HOT. At night DH is wrapped in a duvet and I'm sweating under a simple sheet. I'm Heating for two!

sasamaxx · 19/05/2011 15:30

Yes TTL that's right - get a good store of expressed milk and you can easily have a good few drinks with no need to pump and dump (unless you feel uncomfortably full)
I'm v guilty of having a couple of drinks and still feeding - beware though that you'll be so knackered that it will put you off anyway, and being forced awake during the night is HELLISH when you have had any more than one or two.

Sorry you're still in the breech club 8rubberduckies - hope the baby swims round for you.

Don't feel guilty about the oven Joannezipan - I wouldn't touch oven cleaner when pregnant either - or be near the fumes so into a nice relaxing bath for you while he does it Grin

8rubberduckies · 19/05/2011 15:45

TTL I am not ashamed to say I am gagging for a drink and will be looking forward to getting the breast pump out once feeding is established! I used to have the odd glass of wine, working on the one unit in, one hour out, principle (didn't realise some schools of thought are saying it takes two hours though Blush), and I got into the habit from when ds was about 5-6 weeks old of expressing the odd bottle-full and popping it in the freezer or fridge so I could enjoy a few drinks from time to time and supplement his feeds. A lot of breastfeeding experts will say that it is wise not to muck about with your supply and confuse your baby by introducing a bottle of breastmilk early on, so that is why I waited a few weeks until we had a routine established and I was happy there were no problems with feeding and supply. This is a contentious area though with lots of differing advice being bandied around, so you may be told different, and that it is fine to start offering expressed milk straight away. I don't know about the claim that breastmilk doesn't store alcohol, its news to me if it doesn't.

You will definitely want to "pump and dump" if you miss feeds, as your boobs will get very full, uncomfortable and engorged. When I had planned a few drinks the night before I would wake up in the morning and express my morning feed off and throw it away. When ds was about 7 weeks old I went to London (from Bristol) to see Stevie Wonder and left ds at home with dp and lots of expressed milk. It was a real pain in the ass having to express milk off in the car on the way up (in front of my mates I was getting a lift with Blush, luckily they were all girls and very close friends), and then expressing in the loo at the 02 halfway through the gig!!!!! You should have seen the security man's face though when he searched my bag on the way in and pulled out my electric breast pumpGrin!!! Stevie Wonder was worth it though, as were the mojitos beforehand and cold beers during!

8rubberduckies · 19/05/2011 15:48

Xposted with Sasa, hopefully you won't suffer like me with full painful boobs if you miss feeds TTL, very Envy that you didn't suffer Sasa!
