Cupoftea, please don't be offended by your friend. She must be absolutely devastated by what's happened. She's not saying she doesn't want you and DH in her life ever, just not right now. It's not personal, just circumstances. We've spent years trying to conceive and had to watch others around us overtake us again and again. Last autumn was the worst time as our second ivf cycle had to be abandoned halfway through and we were told we would probably never have a child, only to find out a few days later that close friends who got married 6 months after us were expecting and another friend had just been successful on her first ivf attempt. It was just awful and DH cancelled my whole birthday weekend as he couldn't bear to meet the "successful" friends at a time when we were so sad. Hopefully in a few months your friend will be pregnant again and will get in touch. XX

Hey ladies it's almost the weekend - yay! Anyone doing anything nice?

Super - yay for sales - I might invest in about 10 packs of the muslins, they seemed to be my most essential item with DS!!!!

superjobeespecs · 08/07/2011 17:07

loving the weekend already me [hgrin] about to meet my besty for a wander round asdas (the excitement!!) then have her and her gorgeous daughter round for tea :) we only see each other once or twice a month and as i have asdas at my side of town and she has tescos at hers we do a round swap Confused ? i am too Grin tomorrow off to the sandy beach with DD methinks if the weather stays good bet it doesnt grr

i never used muslins for DD Shock nobody i know uses them but i like them so far they are good sizes easy to wash and cut and can be used for everything so ive been told and read on MN of coarse

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 08/07/2011 17:54

Hi all hope ur all well, i've had a few days off work and could do easily get used to it Sad so weekend for me just means back to work on Monday!
I ventured into a baby clothes shop today and saw lots of beautiful things but v v expensive for baby things (£28 for a sleepsuit) and that was it in the sale Shock

Didn't buy anything as I didnt fancy having to remortgage but think I'll go back for a nice outfit for Xmas day for DS & LO

Cant wait to start mat leave!

Has anyone else started baby's room yet? A girl in my work is due the week before me and she's finished hers. My spare room still vaguely looks like a big cupboard/junk room! Really need to get a move on.

FrancesW · 08/07/2011 21:22

Thanks for all the advice! Trip got cancelled :( rubbish! But prob for the best

bilblio · 08/07/2011 23:08

Hi all not been around for so long that the thread dropped off Threads I'm On.

Spent 4 hours in ante-natal today after having a small bleed this morning. It's nothing, probably due to the low-lying placenta but it's still stressful and I've got sort of mild period pains. I felt like a fraud being there. There'd been no more bleeding, LO was fidgetting like mad and only a bit of pain, which could easily be the SPD. But the midwives were very nice and drilled into me that I must go in, even if it's a small bleed. They let me come home, but they've warned me if I have any more I'll be in overnight for observations. :(

I'm planning a vaguely relaxing weekend. Going to MIL's where I can put my feet up and be doted on. I might go to the pub for an acoustic night tomorrow, then Sunday we've got tickets for an outdoor performance of Pirates of Penzance which an old school friend is in.
Much quieter than last week, when we spent 4 days in Wales on the beach, then I went to London to see Pulp! It was fab! An ambition of a lifetime! I was half expecting problems then after all the dancing I did (not good with SPD, I was in agony the next day).

Happymummytobe you're not the only one. I'm planning on at least 1 camping trip... preferably more. DD will be so upset if we don't go. I've got a posh Dozer SIM though which is very comfy to sleep on. I'll just have to point lots and not lift anything.

Cupoftea I feel for you. I've got friend's who have had 3 lots of fertility treatment, they had their last unsuccessful attempt in March and they've now run out of money. I know they're over the moon for me, but I still feel guilty for conceiving DD and this one within the 1st month of trying. It seems so unfair! All you can do is give your friend time.

Edward Not done a thing about baby's room yet.... at the moment it's DH's studio/cave. LO should be in with us for 6 months, then DH will probably take over a corner of our bedroom instead. DD wants the baby in with her... so long as it's a girl... but I think we'll have to get DH's cave decorated in case LO is a rubbish sleeper.

After today's escapade I have started thinking I should get a hospital bag together.

superjobeespecs · 10/07/2011 12:53

hey all, hope everyones well this fine weekend [hsmile]

no beach for us this weekend as yesterday was a bit too wet and today DD cant be bothered. had masses of fun with besty and her sweet as pie DD who decided my carpet was hungry for lasangne [hsmile]

it gave me a wee inside view to life with 2 kids and omg its gonna be noisy!! between the baby and DD shaking rattles at each other and crawling and growling and screaming my head hurt.. DD loves babies but gets over hyper i need to nip that in the bud [hgrin]

i repainted DDs room when i was just under 4 months as baby will be sharing with her till we move, 2 walls pink 2 walls blue (she hates pink but gave in incase the baby had been a girl) im sure i nested way too early tbh as now im a lazy bones and cant be bothered doing anything around the house!!

CheshireDing · 11/07/2011 20:39

Edward does it count as decorating the room that we have looked at some stick on foam sheep?!

An Usher from our wedding 3 years ago is having their 1st baby 2 weeks after our first and they have cot, painted, fluffy rug, pram and stuff, outfits etc etc.

DH and I have 6 hats and about 2 nice outfits from Next and M&S but that's about it really. Usually I like to be a super organised person but I have been thinking so much that I don't want to get carried out that little Porgy will end up naked apart from it's hats!

We spent big bucks yesterday though on the Bugaboo Chameleon and the bits to go with it, had to go for coffee we were so disturbed afterwards. I did say I could have had about 3 holidays instead!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/07/2011 21:21

Lol nope doesn't count mine is full decorated in my head Grin in reality I have LOADS of stuff I'm selling on eBay including a single bed that all needs to be sold and sent before we can even start.

My nursery will be a nice pink somewhere between baby pink and dusky pink?! With ballerina shaped mirror stickers on one wall and ballet canvases on the other :-) I'm so excited to get started but feels like it will take forever to clear the junk!

emmazed · 12/07/2011 11:40

hi everyone,

28 weeks today. can't believe i am already in the third trimester... it is so exciting! my feelings are slowly changing from not being able to image having a baby, to now being so excited about the thought of holding him in my arms. i saw a friend over the weekend and her 3 month old, me and dh were holding him thinking about how it would be...

i have bought nothing yet apart from a rocking chair. we tried to bid on a 2nd hand cot on ebay over the weekend, but were outbid. i do feel that i need to get a move on.

hope you are all well
x

BB3 · 12/07/2011 13:42

Hello all

bilblio so glad everything is ok - who cares if you feel like a fraud sat there - at least you know everything is ok!!

Super bless DD getting all excited. DS treats them like toys. When my niece cries when she is changed after you pick her up and she settles he wants her back down again making the noise. When she is put in her moses basket he wants her out to be put in again! It's very sweet but he doesn't understand that they can't always be shuffled around at his whim!

Oooh nurseries, I have chosen the wallpaper for one wall and curtain tie backs and a rug but haven't actually bought any of it yet! Going to wait until 28 week scan next week and then start splurging - actually found out that most places have a 12 week wait for prams so going to start looking at that this weekend.

The only thing I have actually bought is two packs of baby vests with little stars on from Tesco - poor babies!

I too need to get rid of a whole load of DS's old stuff - must start doing it soon!!

emmazed It's so exciting - I'm almost there and see it as this big milestone (as in likely to only be 7 weeks or so left!). Can't wait to get these little beans out (although not yet they are too small!) - am getting so uncomfy, I declared to DH last night that technically I am 54 weeks pregnant so that is why I am so grumpy all the time!!! Grin

cupofteaplease · 12/07/2011 17:37

I haven't bought anything yet- I don't have the money! Luckily I still have lots of bits left over from the other dds so that will all be sorted out and reused- when I have the time!!

Had the midwife today. All ok, looks like I have the starts of another UTI (that would explain my back ache). She measured my tummy and the fundal height is below the 10th centile. At least there's a reason for my small bump and I can tell people to back off with the silly comments now I have heard the heart beat! If one more person says 'are you sure there's a baby in there?', 'it must be ever so small', 'Do you feel it move?', 'I hope everything's ok with it'... ARGH! Last pregnancy I got the opposite comments- you can't win when pregnant!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the warmer weather Smile

sassy34264 · 12/07/2011 18:32

hi. hope everyone is well.
i more or less have everything and the new baby is sharing with the twin babies, so the room is finished. its yellow with farm yard animals and bright (rainbow colours) alphabet curtains.
my biggest purchase is going to have to be a people carrier!
for those of you looking for cots , i saw one the other day in ikea. i only saw it from a distance as i was queing, so not sure of size or quality etc but it was only £35ish. might have it on their website or it could have been sale. sorry for being vague!

CheshireDing · 12/07/2011 18:36

BB3 that's why we ordered the pram stuff this weekend because there is at least a six week wait, the if you factor in the wait being a longer longer and we have to figure out how to use it we thought we had better get ordering.

I cannot believe you could have only seven weeks to go.

Are we going to have a section for brand new baby pics ladies?

sassy34264 · 12/07/2011 18:37

found it on website.
cot

Confused2011 · 12/07/2011 21:02

Cupoftea just saw your post and wanted to check your midwife is sending you for a growth scan? I'm having one in a couple of weeks myself. Below the 10th centile is quite small and I expect they will want to be sure everything is ok! XX

soundofherwings · 13/07/2011 11:11

Hi everyone- I passed my finals so can now return to mumsnet and being excited about the baby! It's lovely to have all that stress over with and a whole year off ahead. We've booked a 4d scan for Sunday as my well done present to myself so can't wait! Has anyone else had one yet?

I've now gone into nesting mode, and we're trying to redecorate half the house and renovate the basement before baby arrives! It helps having a deadline to finally get all this stuff done. At least the nursery is finished- we got loads of baby stuff at NCT sales so have almost everything.

Had our first NCT class last night, it was really good fun. I thought the others would all be further along, but none of us are over 30 weeks- 4 of us are due within 2 days of each other!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/07/2011 12:47

hi all
hope you're all well, has any of your (who are on 2nd or more babies) ever used TENS in labour? i was thinking of going down this route this time and wondering if it actually works?

BB3 · 13/07/2011 14:04

Edward I personally think the key thing with any pain relief is to have it early enough so that it builds up with you. With DS, I wanted a completely natural birth and after being induced by drip and going from 0-6cms dilated in about three hours (and at that point I had been in labour for days with NO sleep!) the pain was unbearable and I tried the tens which did nothing (I turned it right up in the hope that the pain from that would distract from the pain of contractions) and then I had an epidural. Well actually three but none of the buggers worked (which caused some mayhem in the labour ward as they couldn't work out how I could move and feel so much with lots of 'I did it perfectly from the anaesthetist) and I do believe that if I had it earlier it would have been more effective. Everyone I know that has used tens from the beginning has been really impressed.

MrsHende · 13/07/2011 19:44

Sassy thanks for the link to that cot, looks great!

As we live in a one bed flat we don't have a room to decorate, the baby will just have to put up with our bedroom decor!

We started doing some pram research today and went to the Pram Centre...oh my, just a wee bit overwhelming! We decided that we can't possibly consider every pram, we'd go nuts! After some internet research tonight as well it's looking like the Mamas and Papas Glide package may be the winner...as much as I'd LOVE a Stokke Xplory, common sense has to prevail Wink! There is no way I can justify spending over £1000 on a pram, and DH wants us to get a new pram rather than second hand so we're looking for value for money!

If anyone else is looking at the Glide I think the best deal is from the Mamas and Papas outlet store - I went to the one in Livingston.

Anyone else spotted any bargains?!

Confused2011 · 13/07/2011 20:35

MrsHende I like the Quinny Zapp Xtra - under £200 online from Mothercare, the seat reclines completely for naps, it folds up the smallest of all buggies for car/aeroplane journeys, and can be used from birth. We're also thinking of the Baby Jogger City Mini, which has won lots of awards and folds in half using one hand only. A little more expensive, but again the seat reclines completely and it can can be used from birth. It's so difficult to choose!

MrsHende · 14/07/2011 09:46

You've confused me Confused [hconfused]!! The Quinny Zapp Xtra looks good too. I think I might have to hit the shops again and actually try them out - especially the folding bit!

BabCNesbitt · 14/07/2011 12:25

Is anyone looking at slings yet? I'm wondering whether to get one now, but obviously, unlike buggies, there's not a lot we can really do to try them out until the wee yin gets here!

Bumpsadaisie · 14/07/2011 12:27

Bab

I wouldnt get a sling until baby arrives and you can test drive it with the real thing in position!
