hello all

sorry i haven't been on here for ages (between crazy work and a death in the family). lovely to catch up by reading everyone posts.

i am 19+2 and have my scan tomorrow. so excited but also nervous hope everything is ok. we are going to find out the sex, from my perspective as it is an easy thing to find out, why not? very mixed opinion from others when i say we are finding out. i guess like so much, it is a very personal decision.

i think i can feel the baby, but not sure. i occasionally feel very faint things, but not sure if it just my tummy! does anyone know when someone can feel movement by putting their hand on the bump? is that supposed to be now as well?

BB3 · 12/05/2011 18:42

emmazed sorry about your loss, hope you are ok.

I think DH felt DS about 22-24 weeks not this early, (but I secretly enjoyed having the kicks all to myself for a fair few weeks), I was in the bath the first time he felt it and DS was kicking so hard it made the water ripple so I called up DH who go to feel it too!

PenguinArmy · 12/05/2011 18:52

emmazed hope you're OK and that we can help :)

Last time I felt nothing concrete until mid 20 weeks (past the MW persistently asking me if I could) and DH couldn't feel it until maybe 30 something weeks (was quite late and he couldn't feel it often)

This time, I feel it once or twice atm in the early evenings and I think I feel it if I'm lying on my front. DH has felt it already but maybe this time he knows what to feel for.

(hope that reassures someone)

mpops my mum gets quite a lot of sciatica..so it probably is that!!

bb3 I didn't really feel anything until this week...and I'm 20 weeks ...but it is my first pregnancy...its like small thuds and mainly at night...as I think baby is sleeping most of the day

emmazed · 13/05/2011 11:10

thanks for your message, i am fine. it was my dh's granddad, and although we are all sad he is gone, he was old and had a wonderful life.

rebelwithoutababy · 13/05/2011 13:08

I think I can feel baby! Just started in last couple of days. Wasn't sure at first as it might have been gas (!) but now I think it feels like something different which I have not felt before. It happens when I am eating or in the evening if I am lying on sofa after dinner (which I now do most evenings!)...I hope it is baby...! (am 19 weeks)
xx

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/05/2011 13:27

I've thought I've felt baby a few times over the past 2 weeks I'm 17+4 but it's really hard to tell could be wind or just my pulse going really hard who knows. It's my 2nd btw and I still find it hard to tell Grin

Molybdenum · 13/05/2011 13:30

Hi everyone. 20 week scan yesterday went well. I had really made myself quite nervous about it, to the point where DH and I had not really discussed fully whether we wanted to find out the gender or not. When the sonographer asked us if we wanted to know, we had to look at each other and umm and ahh and eventually say we didn't think we did, and could she please not point anything out but also no need to hide anything.
Actually, I found I was so focused on what she was showing us (the cord, the blood vessels, the kidneys, the baby swallowing, the hands and feet etc.) that I didn't even have a proper look at the genital region at all! Neither DH nor I saw a penis, and I have heard that they are generally pretty obvious, so I think my instinct that we are having a girl is possibly correct.

So we felt a huge sense of relief after the scan. I feel like I can relax a little. Now I just wish I'd stop vomiting: am 20+4 and it's still going! (Apologies to all those at earlier stages of pregnancy who are counting on the sickness stopping at a certain point. No such luck!)

Molybdenum · 13/05/2011 13:33

Oh yes, and I am now convinced that the funny burbly, balloony, thuddy feelings I've been having are actually the baby. I had acupuncture last night (the ONLY thing that stops the nausea) and each time she placed a needle the baby would jump around quite perceptibly. Acupuncture is absolutely amazing: to think that placing a tiny needle on my foot can cause a resonance in the baby's energy field is mindboggling.

BB3 · 13/05/2011 13:44

Ah Moly how nice. I loved the 20 week scan so much more than the 12 week with DS as you really got a chance to look at your baby and not just stare at the screen in amazement!

Ah phew glad to see I am just going slightly insane with the worry here then and actually sounds pretty normal. Am sure in 10 weeks time when I am the size of a house with two babies kicking me inside out I will look back on this time with more fond memories!

Moly I still have MS - few days a week I am really rough - today all I want is pasta and chocolate and I have eaten so much of it that in my non-pg days I would have to go for a 2 hours run just to work off half of it Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 13/05/2011 13:55

Moly - hooray that all was well - yours was the first 20 week scan on here wasnt it? I seem to remember from last time round with DD that once you get to 20 weeks time speeds up no end, just as well given how much the first 20 weeks dragged! Wonder if you were right about it being a girl (you are very restrained - no way DH and I will be able to resist finding out if we can!)

I think I can feel baby too - last week it was little bubble quite low down, this week there a definite little soft thuds and the occasional slightly squirmy feelings down low. I'm only 17 weeks though so not totally confident. It probably is though - otherwise what on earth is it ?! ConfusedGrin

BB3 · 13/05/2011 14:38

Moly, hearing your scan has made me desperately want mine to - do you think if I had a word with him upstairs he would just let me skip through the next 11 days? huh? I think that's fair....

BB3 · 13/05/2011 14:39

I think this first 20 weeks for me has gone pretty fast - can't believe I will probably have my babies this time in 18 weeks (not that I don't want the next few months to hurry up too! Smile

CheshireDing · 13/05/2011 17:11

BB3 if I come back from my scan in 2 weeks and found out there are 2 in there instead of one I will be looking for you! Grin.

Sorry (hopefully) not me who is having twin girls - I am only having one and I don't know what flavour it is. I am sure whoever is having the girls will be only shortly though to answer your question though.

Glad everything was good at your Moly, it's still 2 weeks away for ours - but we do not want to know what sex it is either.

Crawling · 13/05/2011 18:54

Hi all i have been 3 hours having my scan today, my baby was not cooperating Grin so I had to keep moving and in and out of the but the baby was all really great and healthy. The sonographer said she thinks it is a girl but as baby was not cooperating she cannot be certain as she said it was too difficult to look in that area properly and it was just a guess. So we decided not to tell anyone as it is so uncertain as to the sex because we dont want anyone buying pink so we said she couldnt tell.

BB3 · 13/05/2011 19:53

Sorry that should have said you girls (addressing all you lovely lot) not your as in your two baby girls - although would be very exciting if one was hiding in there!

BB3 · 13/05/2011 19:54

Crawling yay for three hours of healthy baby watching!

Crawling · 13/05/2011 20:07

Grin it wasnt 3 hours watching they would take me in for 30 minutes then send me out to walk for 30 minutes to try and get baby to move, so 90 minutes baby watching but we enjoyed having so long but I felt sorry for the sonographer.

CheshireDing · 13/05/2011 22:04

Ah ha BB3 I understand now :)

Seems a bit mad to think what you said about the October babies being here in about 18 weeks - that does not sound very look at all! eck!

Leo4 · 14/05/2011 09:34

I think 18 weeks seems way too long..but I think that is because I have had quite a lot of scans due to my baby having stupid talipes...(love the bump whatever it has) xxx

bilblio · 14/05/2011 11:43

Ooh it's exciting to read all about these new scans. 4 weeks to go till mine! I'm feeling lump move every day now though, so that's a lot of reassurance.

I met with my manager at work yesterday about my back pain and she said she'll have to move me to another house where there is no moving & handling and no challenging behaviour. It means getting to know more new clients and a further drive but at least I'll be safe... in theory. I worked a 6.5 hours shift yesterday and my back is killing me from being on my feet all day. I'm back in tomorrow too.

I've worked out though that if I started maternity leave as early as possible, and took all my Annual Leave and Time Owing in a block before it I could actually finish work in 5 or 6 weeks time. I'll see where I get placed at work, It seems daft to finish work so early, but I'm in that much pain that I'm seriously considering it. I'll still be working my main job until September, I'm taking a bit of annual leave every week there so I'd only be working 3 days a week.
It would be lovely to spend some time with DD before the baby arrives and she starts school... and I'll not be irritating my back.

PenguinArmy · 14/05/2011 17:28

bilblio I did find last time that the back pain was worst in the 2T, so you might still feel better in a few weeks.

dugsinthestow · 15/05/2011 14:31

Hey Ladies,

So glad that I found you! Knew that there was an October bus somewhere but it took me a while to find it!

I'm 19+5 and the next scan is on the 27th. I'm hoping that we're going to be able to find out the sex EEK!!

Leo4 · 15/05/2011 14:40

Congrats....dugsinthestow xxx

Do you have a preference of the sex? xx

dugsinthestow · 15/05/2011 18:59

Hey Leo, not really. Have had a bit of a crap time with work not really being understanding about my pregnancy (have had to involve the Union since I was 4 weeks gone!!) so it's been horrid and stressful and I've not really enjoyed it! The only reason I want to find out is so I can finally have a bit of fun shopping in the second half haha!!

What about anyone else? Are you ladies finding out or keeping it a surprise?
