Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BamBam21 · 14/06/2011 12:47

Hi everyone. Can I join you here? As some of you know, I recently got my BFP and I'm now at the grand stage of 5+6! I haven't come on here before as it just all seems so unreal at the moment. I scooted off to the doc as soon as I got the BFP, as I have a thyroid problem and wanted to make sure my medication was correct. I then saw the midwife on Friday, and she packed me off with lots of leaflets and stop-smoking stuff (Blush), and that's it until 4 July, when she will visit me at home. I may be remembering wrongly, but when I had DS (nearly 8 yrs ago) it all seemed much more "hands on" with appointments and stuff.

Anyway, so good to see so many of you nearly at the finish line! Can't believe you are 16 wks already nickel!Smile

nickelbabe · 14/06/2011 12:50

BamBam !!!!! Grin

we've been waiting for you!!
GrinGrinGrin

I knwo what you mean about itbeing unreal at that stage - TBH, it's still a bit weird now! (i'm convinced it's just fat.... )

The next thing will be a letter about your 12 week scan.
I didn't get a home visit - is that to do with your smoking?
I hope you're successful in giving up.

vallinnapod · 14/06/2011 12:53

Not comfy Nickel - no way do I want her there or I could tell her to f--- off out of her house Wink. Plus 3 cats etc...more hassle than it's worth (I think....) Quite fancy popping him out on her heated bathroom floor though Grin

My dreams have got rather x-rated again...all with DH though, which is a turn up for the books Grin

Hi BamBam! Welcome to the otherside!

nickelbabe · 14/06/2011 12:54

maybe you could lock her in a cupboard/
she'd never know....
Grin

BamBam21 · 14/06/2011 13:10

Thanks nickel and vallinna.Smile

The home visit thing is a bit odd. Nothing to do with smoking, apparently it's just what they do at the 9 wk mark to discuss your notes, which I have to fill in with DP. It's all very different to last time. I will get a 12 and 20 wk scan though, which is fab, as I only got one last time.Smile

I'm struggling on with patches at the moment, and I've to see the stop-smoking midwife person too. I really want to be healthy for myself and the bean.

vallinnapod · 14/06/2011 13:31

LOL I could get a really specific craving which she would have to satisfy that would involve a trip somewhere!

GL Bam - I was a bit of a social smoker before I got pregnant. Not addicted so can't really relate to the having to quit! For the first 10 ish weeks I had the sense of smell of a blood hound and the only thing I could not abide was cigarette smoke. Then at about 14 weeks I had a massive craving for a cigarette. Bodies are weird!!

nickelbabe · 14/06/2011 13:53

it's odd. At ours, we go in for the booking-in appt, which is about 8 weeks, then we see them again at the hospital for another check up at 16 weeks.

now i want a home visit Envy

vallinna - i would have to chuck my mum out, though, so i know what you mean.

takethatlady · 14/06/2011 13:54

Grin at all the chat ladies, and a giant welcome to bambam!! FFS at the epi-no. Not that I think epi-yes, but FFS. Why isn't birth easy and enjoyable?! Grin

Glad you had a good time at the wedding vallinna - sounds brilliant. Every time I've gone out, even just to the pub, while being pregnant, I've felt hungover the next day. Makes me think half a hangover is just knackeredness from shouting and the odd bit of singing and dancing ...

Have recovered from DH's attempt to kill me Grin and had my hair done. It's blonde and swishy and shoulder-length, and totally impractical for a baby because when the roots grow out I'm going to look like crap. But I'll look good in the initial photos Grin

Jealous of those of you still having the sexy dreams. I had a dream I was going for a really long poo the other day Blush

takethatlady · 14/06/2011 13:55

PS, I got a home visit at 8 weeks too ...

aStarInStrangeways · 14/06/2011 14:41

The Epi-No just looks like a fancy inflatable buttplug Confused

Welcome BamBam, hooray for new JS babies being made! Good luck with stopping smoking - if it's any help, me being pg the first time was what finally helped DH to quit for good after years of on/off trying. The home visit thing is bizarre though, just shows what a postcode lottery all this is. I wouldn't have thought there were the resources available for something like that...certainly here and where I was living before, it was all 'come to us for your booking-in and then piss off till the 12 week scan' sort of thing.

Baby2B I think waterbirths can help with not tearing, but also can mean that tearing is worse if it happens because flesh softens the longer it stays in the water, iyswim. My friend had a lovely waterbirth au naturel but then had to be whisked to theatre for stitching up afterwards. Not that I want to scare you with my purely anecdotal experience. Might be worth asking mw about though?

(Friend was and is fine, btw, it wasn't a horror show or anything Grin)

To add to ttl's glamorous contribution, I can tell you all that I had the honour of swabbing my perineum today Hmm And my nostrils, all the way up to the brain cavity. Apparently it's hospital policy to swab certain groups of patients for MRSA, including women having 'high risk' pregnancies - apparently I am one of these now, having a GD diagnosis. So I had my very own CSI moment in the toilets, although my colleague in this case was a fractious toddler rather than a bug-obsessed workaholic.

Eskarina · 14/06/2011 14:51

Welcome BamBam and huge congratulations.

Just Shock at the cost of the Epi-no, though I was interested in finding out more about perineal massage. But I've also been reading this about hypnobirthing which seems to be saying that birth can be more straightforward than we make it. I would have been really sceptical about it but two of my friends at church have used the method and have had really simple straightforward births, with relatively little pain, and no pain relief. Of course they might have done so anyway, but I'm all for anything that helps. Sadly though the book is quite a sales-pitch for signing up to an accredited hypnobirthing course, which I'm willing to bet costs £££. Not going to do that, but FIL is a hypnotherapist so have talked some of it through with him. He didn't offer to give me a course for free though. Boo!

vallinnapod · 14/06/2011 15:31

I got the CD from eBay esk - apparently way more effective to do the course (and you're right, in this neck of the woods it is just under £400) but it can't hurt!

Eskarina · 14/06/2011 15:43

Am hunting on ebay for the CD now Val.

The internet is terrible for my productivity. I'm supposed to be getting all my reports finished this week. Instead I've researched hypnobirthing stuff, perineal massage, making my own nappies, fabric for said nappies and other projects, oh, and spent about 3 hours piddling around on MN.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 14/06/2011 16:49

HELLO Bambam! Grin If it helps at all just a few days out from EDD it still doesn't feel real in the Confessions household. Actually after over 3 years it still doesn't feel real with the first one sometimes (Hmm,Grin)

LO seems to be trying to cram in as many last minute craving as possible this week. Today I managed to satify 3 in one go, so was feeling ruddy stuffed after lunch. Even still have a sneaky licorice chic log for when I wake up at stupid o'clock in the morning Grin.

Right better get on with dinner...

nickelbabe · 14/06/2011 17:05

i'm trying to update the shop website, but it's hurting my shoulder.

how come MN doesn't make my shoulder hurt, but real work does?? Confused

cowboylover · 14/06/2011 17:53

That Epi thing just looks a bit weird and a little scary! I am squeamish with that sort of thing though but if it helps with feeling more in control at the pushing stage that must be great.

I miss my pregnancy dreams and still try to remember my epic session with Jacob from twilight! Blush

Welcome BamBam

I never had a home visit until I was home with Felicity and MW said they just don't have the time anymore. At our local hospital they have to do clinics, take it in turns to do parent craft and a certain amount of day and night shifts on labour and maternity ward so not surprised but good to see the same faces popping up again and again.

Baby2b I think tearing is a lottery as well and lots to do with the speed of delivery. Might be worth asking there policy as my labour MW when I was fully dilated then said I said I could wait an hour and rest before pushing (epidural in place!) and then managed attempted forceps with no cut so I think it may have done some good.

Good luck COAAF

Still loving life with a newborn here, our daily mini adventures like going to the shop or having a bath are fab! She is EBF well and put on 1lb in 16 days so all the milk is going somewhere! Grin

BrassicaBabe · 14/06/2011 18:36

Feck! I've got behind again! Grin

The Hungry Caterpillar muslins are soooo cute. I've managed to avoid spending though.. Hmm

Not enjoying too much the conversation about mattress protectors, but at 34+4 it's about time I faced the reality of this lark! Grin I think I'm going to go down the changing sheets/childs potty training line.

So many lovely links for shopping to catch up on!!

(I've just made a shepherd pie. But didn't fancy doing mashed potato. So I've sliced them and laid them on the top. R-E-A-L-L-Y should have googled first as it seems I should have boiled them first! Grr!)

Crap ttl. Sorry about the on-going problems with builder and freezer. Truely pants. I agree with nickel though, you need to kick his @rse! Grin Ha,Ha for "easily irritated cervix" - I don't know about you, but I have an easily irritated everything at the moment!! Grin

Am I the only one who gets damn irritated by the baby moving? The movements are quite voilent these days. I had a bit of a cry last night because it was getting me down Sad

LOL at esk's DH falling off her birthing ball!

Welcome back macaroon!

Bloody hell coaaf!! 39 weeks Shock! Where has the time gone?!

Liking the idea of a ttl/coaaf "birth-off" katee And no I have def no plans to upstage anyone!! The nursery furniture isn't built yet and there is still a double bed piled with clothes in there.

Grin for b2b being distracted by the lady's pants!

Yeah!! Weclome over bambam We're getting a nice line in newer grads joining us now! Huge congrats!!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 14/06/2011 19:17

I'm starting to get about ready for this baby to arrive now, so I really won't be upset if you don't upstage me at this point BB Grin. LO is putting lots of pressure on the tops of my legs giving me sciatica. I nearly got stuck outside this afternoon!

Good to hear all is well with you and Felicity Cowboy.

It's really damn hard to concentrate on anyone else suddenly, because as soon as I hear about someone elses baby my brain turns to an envious mush. I want new baby cuddles, NOW!!!!!! Grin

Bear
KateeTheBump · 15/06/2011 08:37

Ha ha coaaf at least you're going to get new baby cuddles imminently... I've got another 18 weeks ish! I'm getting impatient now... Grin

After not sleeping well the night before, I slept like a log last night, much to DP's relief as I was a right grump last night, still as I reminded him this morning, it was either be grumpy or a teary mess, I know what I prefer!

Good to hear from you cowboy, glad Felicity is putting on weight - the power of the boob Grin

How's your shoulder nickel?

vallinnapod · 15/06/2011 10:27

Envy baby cuddles....got lots at the weekend. Now want me own!

nickelbabe · 15/06/2011 10:45

I had an odd dream last night that when I went to the toilet, there was blood in my knickers, and I thought "oh, no, that's my period" then thought "hang on, it can't be because I'm pg" then in my dream I woke up and went back to the toilet (after telling DH that I'd been bleeding), but there was no bleeding.
very odd.
and i didn't even need to wake up to sort it out, cos my dream did it for me! Grin

BrassicaBabe · 15/06/2011 10:53

@rse! Laptop just decided to refresh and lost half written post!

Sod it. It was a miserable self-indulgent post anyway! So I'll take it as a sign!! Grin

Glad and you and felicity are doing well cowboy.

nickelbabe · 15/06/2011 13:04

aw, i was hoping you'd type most of it out again!
Grin

vallinnapod · 15/06/2011 13:29

I think bub want me to give up work. He gets all jabby and pokey when I sit at my desk Grin 6 weeks 2.5 days until hols/mat leave......

nickelbabe · 15/06/2011 13:42

for a second I thought "bub" was your DH! Shock

tell him to stop stabbing you, and that you'll give up when you can [tsk tsk]
