Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Eskarina · 06/06/2011 22:19

Sorry for all the building woes Nickel and TTL. Hope they all get sorted soon.

I'm stuck at home for at least the next 2 days waiting to see the physio. The Head at school says to stay off all week, which is tempting (could do all my reports!!) but will see what physio says. I really don't want to start maternity leave yet, not with 10 weeks to go. I'll drive myself mad, not to mention probably bankrupt us with ebay purchases Blush.

We had our first NCT class today. Everything was reassuringly normal, no whale music, only a very brief, non-embarrassing icebreaker, nice people there. Teacher also seems very balanced, not like the complete anti-interventionist NCT stereotype although obv was against anything unnecessary.

BB am loving the snacking! I know I wouldn't be able to resist anything if it was sitting around the house

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 06/06/2011 23:22

I've just gotten out of bed and come down stairs for some truely boring toast to find you're all eating Gu's. I want Gu, and wine, and pate, and to then pass out asleep for 12 hours.

Crap about the GD Star

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 07/06/2011 08:51

I woke up all grumpy this morning cos of the evil heartburn, really must invest in some gaviscon (is it really yucky?), took me forever to get to sleep last night, and DP was happily snoring snoozing away which just made me madder!

Managed to keep my breakfast down this morning though, so result there!

Glad the NCT class was good Esk!

takethatlady · 07/06/2011 09:17

Oh no star I forgot about that ... well you can eat like a bitch when you've given birth Grin

Party Pringles! Why didn't I think of that for the hospital bag? All I've got are jelly babies (which might be weird, given the amount of 'jelly' and the amount of babies I'll be surrounded by) and marshmallows. I had some chocolate but I put the bag in the boot of the car, like an idiot Blush, and it melted. So I've eaten that now.

esk my NCT classes were like that. I think we all went in bit sceptical that it was going to be the non-interventionist whale-music-playing thing, but actually it was a balanced, open discussion every week and we met loads of nice people :)

katee the first time I tasted peppermint Gaviscon I hated it. Now it's like vodka and coke to me Grin. It's just like getting a new toothpaste - by the end of the tube you love it ...

I officially do not trust myself to behave like a normal human being anymore. I tried to build the bouncy chair thing for the baby yesterday, and it all went well until I had to insert the battery and accidentally unscrewed the entire electrical box thing and broke the circuit, and then had a meltdown and sobbed for about 20 minutes. I had mascara all up my arms. DH was very cute and told me I was definitely being normal and just cuddled me a lot, and then when we went to bed I sobbed again and he cuddled me again. He must think he's married to a total freak Grin Doesn't help I've got a cold so now I've woken up like a big snot monster. Took the bouncy chair back though and changed it.

The builder is here now, but I'm hiding in the bedroom. I am still being a weirdo and can't be bothered to talk to him or make him a cup of tea. He didn't come yesterday because of the rain, apparently, so probably my mistake Blush. How's things at your end nickel?

I need a Gu!

aStarInStrangeways · 07/06/2011 09:21

So did the rain also disable his phone ttl, the stupid barefaced lying wanker?

takethatlady · 07/06/2011 09:31

Grin Grin Grin star. Glad to see someone else with my temperament Grin

DH says it's because the builder is old and doddery and sweet and doesn't have a mobile. I don't know why this is supposed to make it better Grin

vallinnapod · 07/06/2011 09:40

Oh poor you star - I was really worried about GD as I eat sooooooooooooo much fruit I don't know what I would do without it!

LOL on the hospital bag food BB! If people are looking for recommendations for 'stamina food' can I recommend jelly beans and jelly babies? Obviously this comes from no experience of childbirth but I have run 3 marathons and the kind people handing out these on the route towards the end saved me as I hate sports drinks (I know, the difference between sugary sweets and drinks is just the water....!) I am planning on sending DH on many a run to Sainsburys (at the foot of the hospital) for Twister ice lollies during labour!

Glad NCT was good Esk Still another month and a half until ours...if I pop 4 weeks early I'll actaully miss one! We start the NHS ones on Monday. Although think DH will be away with work :( There are 4 2 hour sessions. Wasn't going to do them [totalsnob emoticon] but as they are run by the team of midwives looking after me I thought it would be useful to be on the same page as them!

Katee Gaviscon is vile and only occassionally works for me - but worth it...if that makes any sense Grin

Awh TTL I am at the rage stage rather than the tears again in terms of irrational emotions. I am surprised I did no physical harm to anyone yesterday. I am also completely incapable of making a decision about anything....this ranges from pissing DH off last night because I couldn't tell him what I fancied for dinner to not being able to decide whether to increase the offer on the house we want to buy by £2500. In the general scheme of things neither matter. I hate how buying a house (to me) seems to devalue all money. We had to pay £190 to the company that manage the freehold to our flat that we are selling to get copies of documents that are essentially ours. I thought nothing of it as I was writing the cheque and then 10 mins later went spare to DH about how unreasonable it was! Then refused to accept the changing bag he wants to buy as it is £30 more than one I have seen Blush

Bub has clearly had a huge growth spurt. Not in terms of bump size but was so tired last week (and this to be honest) and since Sunday the cute little kicks are becoming a form of GBH!

nickelbabe · 07/06/2011 09:57

will read catch-up in a minute - was talking to lady next door about the bosses who she works for (ie the owner of the shop next door), and she's not very impressed with them either - I was saying that DH told me off for going on the roof, and she mentioned it to Boos - sayign "you shouldn't be making her go up on the roof" he went "why?" she said "because she's pregnant" and he went "well, who else is going to go up for her?" ShockShock
complete twat! well, let's see, you could, you wanker!

anyway, I asked her to tell him to take photos of the damage - he's only sent her round asking if I havea camera he can use to take the photos! I'm not happy with him and his wife anymore, and I will not speak to them nicely next time I see them. Angry

nickelbabe · 07/06/2011 10:04

katee - I bought some little gaviscon popping pills and they're quite nice (i don't like chewing them though - it's the texture)
but I also got some Settler's mint heartburn tablets andthey are fucking horrible!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 07/06/2011 10:50

If the choice is god awful heartburn for hours or a couple of minutes of thick icky peppermint liquid

vallinnapod · 07/06/2011 11:32

Nickel - I have the tablets too and hate how no matter what I try they cling to my teeth! It's like I've garggled with washing up liquid! Angry on your behalf at the shop neighbours....twats.

COAAF I mentioned to my Mum I am spending as little time in hospital as I humanly can (all things allowing) after birth and now she won't stop harping on about how she really enjoyed all the 'bonding' on the ward between mothers Hmm This was 30 years ago and I suspect her attitude would be entirely different if it were her now in my position! It will be bad 'interesting' enough that we go back to her house after the birth :( Just can't see us being in our flat still or having bought a new place in 2 and a half months. Get quite down it won't just be the three of us.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 07/06/2011 13:02

I had 4 nights in the maternity hospital with DS, which was good and bad. I had a private room (different system in NZ), and MWs or nurses on call which was good. I saw the bad more with hindsight. I didnt' really get the help I needed with BFing, which caused problems later down the line and I think the MWs settling DS at night, so I could attempt to sleep, taught him to suck for comfort. Cue manky infected fingers he refuses to stop sucking or let me treat, more than 3 years later!

Could you book into a nice hotel for a couple of nights after the birth and get some 'Pod family alone time that way? Grin

vallinnapod · 07/06/2011 13:48

I had heard similar pros and cons on the private rooms. We can have one (if one is available) for £250 Shock which before MN I would have sold to DH as a complete essential. Now I am not so sure both in terms of support and cost. Although the massive advantage is not being surrounded by chavs DH wouldn't be kicked out at the end of visiting hours.

Oh, like the hotel idea....or lots of serviced apartments near by us for businesses which would be ideal (for us, not the business travellers Grin)

So, since my last post, our buyers want to move in by 23rd June and we had our offer accepted on the place we like (minus the £2500 more they wanted) Obviously feeling very GrinGrinGrinGrin about it all but also Confused with MASSIVE post purchase anxiety. I was the same with our flat all those many moons ago. It's the thought of my lovely pool of savings (saved for this purpose) becoming a black hole of debt!

My next thoughts then turned to BBQ research...even though we will be moving in in the winter.... Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 07/06/2011 14:47

Yay for houses Vallinna. It's never to early to research BBQs. The only reason I didn't buy one on Friday (our 1 day of Summer) is cause we have no money and baby needs a bed more than DH needs sausages cooked outside. Grin.

How's the roof getting on TTL?

And the twats delightful people next door Nickel? Thrown a proper pregnant lady strop at them yet? as you should

Dynababy · 07/06/2011 16:48

Hmmmmph not having a great couple of days, ended up being up most of the night with bad pain in lower abdomen and back ... tried paracetemol, bath, water bottle etc and didn't shift it so ended up at the hospital in triage as they asked me to go in. Very relieved to be told everything fine with baba seems I have SPD.. I thought it was pain in the hips but mine felt like period pain in lower tummy and back .. Off work today as needed to sleep after being up all night and getting dihydracodiene (sp?) at the hospital... not happy bunny as I hate being off work, control freak in me! Grin

So Physio for me and some extra strong pain killers they gave me just in case it gets bad again. COAFF any advice? I seem to remember you being affected by this from early on

Being a 1st timer there was a while i was thinking baba might have been trying to make an early appearance (I'm 34 week tom).

mmmm Gu and Jelly babies .. that could cheer me up!

Sorry to hear of building traumas - hope dodgy landlords and annoying dodery old builders gettheir acts together.

Katee sorry re losing brekkie, hapens to me everytime i brush my teeth in the morning before work .. I know take tooth brush to work and do them later so stop the hurling Smile. Can also sympathise with heartburn .. used to hate Gaviscon but as TTL says I now just glug it from the bottle happily! You get used to it.

Valinna yay for new pod pad!! Grin Do you know yet when you can get into the new place? Have they bought themsleves yet? Benefit of Scots law means we set date and everyone exchanges on agreed date or you'll get sued .. no messing here! I know in England you can get into a chain. I wanted to move pre bub too, want a garden but our flat wasn't shifting as market not great and lots of similar new builds for sale ... so took it off the market earlier in year and will hold off until next year.

Sorry massive post!

nickelbabe · 07/06/2011 16:51

oh no :(
hoep it doesn't trouble you too much now it's been diagnosed.
dihydracodeine is bloody good stuff! Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 07/06/2011 19:29

Dyna physio was GREAT, though with all the dramas of moving and DH being unwell I stopped going mid pregnancy. However the exercise ball I bought on the physio's advice has been a life saver. That and giving up walking past the fridge everywhere. I'm going to be so unfit once LO shows up.

takethatlady · 07/06/2011 23:24

vallinna I love a good Twister (and a good random rage Grin). V impressed at your three marathons :)

Had a mw appointment today and the midwives have all been re-allocated in my area so it was a new one entirely. Bit weird but fine, and the baby is 1/5 engaged now, so she's made progress on last week. Her back is on my right side, which makes sense since either her knee or her elbow is almost permanently sticking out of my left side Grin. Also keep getting weird pains, half way between being desperate for a wee and someone sticking a pin in my parts, which I think might be the baby using her head as a cervix corkscrew ....

Actually LOL at you and the 'fucking horrible' heartburn sweets nickel. Methinks they copped some of the (totally justifiable) rage you have at the dickhead next door Grin. FWIW I hate the Gaviscon sweets for the texture too - I basically just grind them down into my teeth and then can't swallow them, same as vallinna.

How exciting about your house sale vallinna. If you're not in a new place I say definitely go for the hotel/serviced apartment option. I already can't wait to get rid of my family and they're not even here yet Grin

Yep, he has a landline coaaf. I was out most of the day but when I came back he had sheets of broken asbestos all over the back garden Hmm. Seems to be nearly done though - he's coming back tomorrow to finish it all off and it does look a hell of a lot better. He only has about three teeth, which is disturbing. I made him tea in the end - he has two sugars, and I would link that to the teeth, but I have two sugars too ...

Apparently I'm on maternity leave but I had to go to work for an exam today and I'm getting about twenty 'urgent' emails a day to sort out. Plus I have a big deadline to meet. But I did go shopping and spend my life savings on dried food and frozen food to put in the outhouse now that I can actually store more than 2 pints of milk and a loaf of bread. Seemed to get sidetracked from the healthy stuff by Penguin biscuits, mini cheddars and Calippos, though ...

KateeTheBump · 08/06/2011 13:04

Where is everyone today?

I'm a bit down in the dumps today, as the contract extension to November that I thought was happening, now isn't (so back to 31 July unless boss can find another pot). Its all been a bit of a rollercoaster and I'm fed up of it all now... Sad

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/06/2011 13:17

I'm in bed still. Just been discussing who we're going to beg money off of so that we can eat and pay rent. Shouldn't be having to worry about this shit a week before having baby due. Sad

Hope your boss finds a magic pot for you Katee

KateeTheBump · 08/06/2011 13:32

That's not good! Money worries never much fun, I hope you get something sorted soon so you can concentrate on LO arriving. Can your parents help out temporarily?

Wish I was curled up in bed, instead of being here at stupid work

nickelbabe · 08/06/2011 15:09

honestly I haven't been up on the roof again.
Blush

I had to take photos of the damage to send to the landlord's husband solicitor.
I also mentioned in my reply email about being pregnant, so hopefully someone will feel guilty about this at some point.
Hmm

(i personally don't mind going up on the roof, it's quite safe really because the wall is like a blacony above the sloping roof iyswim. But I think it's always a good plan to point this stuff out, because if something untoward did happen, I don't want them to be able to say they didn't know....)

I'm not envying your bumpy baby ttl ! Shock
It must really look like an alien now! Wink

Katee - sorry about your contract :(
big hhugs and Brew

nickelbabe · 08/06/2011 15:11

i'm just grateful that DH has got a decent wage (or a wage at least...)
I've still got fuck all coming in to the shop, and am relying far too heavily on my credit card for stuff.

I've made aproper budget for food (because that' my agreed responsibility, and DH can't afford to take that on), and now I'm providing weekly cash rather than telling him to put it on the credit card. In theory, that should make the CC easier to pay off....

KateeTheBump · 08/06/2011 15:36

I'm saving as much as I can as not sure if I will qualify for maternity leave after all of this - we will manage, but will be tight. I'm presuming I can still claim statutory maternity allowance, even if not statutory maternity leave, so better than nothing, I guess. So any spare money going on baby stuff (and fortunately we've been given a cot, pram etc., PILs are generously paying for the NCT classes) or into savings. I don't own a credit card as I believe they are the spawn of the devil Grin

nickelbabe · 08/06/2011 15:39

oh, they are definitely the spawn of the devil!
In theory, I only use mine for shop stuff.
but in practice, it doesn't quite happen.
