Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 12:45

must be banned from the internet

I didn't want to watch those.

I felt my pelvic floor tightening at every contraction! Shock

nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 12:45

i messed the link up - this one will work

Baby2b · 16/05/2011 13:28

Nickelbabe: I should really start watching some of this this stuff, but I'm still in denial about the whole labour thing. If only it was like 'Bringing home baby' where it shows pg woman, then jumps to leaving hospital with a cute bundle of joy! Whispers, does everyone else have a birth plan yet? (cowboy: I am expecting u do and it could even be in use at the mo!) Grin

I have just purchased a shortish denim skirt from jojo m bebe (sp?). Combined with my bump bands, I can wear some of my old tops now. Planning on wearing with leggings when it's colder. Though I feel like the baby is internal central heating as I seem to be warmer than everyone else at the mo.

Vallina, I have been obsessing looking at re-usable nappies too. Buying a sample from the nappy lady and combining with disposables for the first couple of weeks until I suss which I prefer. My organised self would rather have one type and a bulk purchase now though. The nappy ladies advice does seem quite good, though was a little Hmm about her saying two parts are better, just have a couple of one sizes if baby is going to nursery or if dh changes nappy. Think she is underestimating dh's involvement!

Anyway, off to the docs now, so that is enough waffle from me!

takethatlady · 16/05/2011 13:31

Oh baby2b don't get me started on maternity wear. I do not want to hide my bump by pretending I am ginormously overweight all over. Quite a lot of the stuff I have been wearing has been fitted but stretchy - either maternity stuff from Asos (though only some of it was okay), fitted jumper dresses, or even body con dresses with enough give in them to fit over the bump and be worn with leggings. I like my bump! I don't want to park it under a flouncy, frumpy old tent! Grrrrr Angry

vallinna at 24+2 you are about to EXPLODE Grin. You'll be waddling before you know it ...

Grin cowboy - babies, and girls, are allowed to be fashionably late. It's our prerogative and DHs should just get on with it Grin

OMG nickelbabe I am at work. There's no way I can watch those videos - if anyone hears any birth-related sounds from out in the corridor they'll be rushing in here dialling 999 Grin

takethatlady · 16/05/2011 13:33

Cross post baby2b. Hmm at the assumption your DH will only change the odd nappy. I am toying with saying to DH that since I'll be doing all the feeding (if bfing works out) that he should do all the nappy-changing when he's around Grin. Actually, I definitely think I can get him to agree to that!

nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 13:43
Grin

ttl - i'll be insisting on that from DH! Grin

he cleans the cats out, so a baby shouldn't smell as bad, should it?

takethatlady · 16/05/2011 13:59

No, and a baby is less hairy Grin. Hopefully Hmm.

Baby2b · 16/05/2011 14:35

Great minds think alike, as I had hoped for dh to be doing the majority if I am breastfeeding. Grin Speaking of which I was very excited about boob growth and made it to a b cup, but it seems to have stopped. Dh still thinks christmas has come early though :)

nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 14:42
Grin DH quite likes my new boobs too, but he won't touch them unless I say he can. cos they've been a leeeeeetle bit tender to touch!
frakyouveryverymuch · 16/05/2011 15:10

DH does most of our nappies. He does prefer the pockets, then terries in a newborn prefold cos he's fascinated by nappy nippas. He reaches for the Bumgenius first every time and has just sanctioned the spending of vast sums of money on more v4s and some Flips.

I find 2 parters best though - easier to boost and better containment of poosplosions.

Baby2b · 16/05/2011 16:03

So our expectations aren't too unrealistic then Frak :) I think I will buy a mix as two parters look better for night time. One of the reasons I'm holding off buying is both dh and I are tall so want to check out sizes. slightly worried as everyone keeps saying we will have a huge baby, though we were both under 8lbs?! Blush

Baby2b · 16/05/2011 16:07

Nickel, I just keep finding that I am chatting away only to realise his eyes have been distracted, lol. Just had two wasp stings before, so can't blame him.

frakyouveryverymuch · 16/05/2011 16:16

If you're likely to have a tall/big baby then one sizes should be fine from birth. Both our motherease and bumgenius nappies have fitted from day 1 - motherease poppered down to smallest setting and bumgenius is Velcro so v adjustable.

nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 17:26

Baby2b - you do realise that means that he's going to want you BFing or PG for the rest of your life, don't you! Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 16/05/2011 19:52

Boobs in a feeding bra, with both clips undone is apparently a bit of a turn off Grin

Baby2b · 16/05/2011 20:46

Haha, who knew Coaf?! Nickel, I fear u could be right.

Just going to have a Brew and then hopefully it will be an acceptable time for bed.

cowboylover · 17/05/2011 01:06

Like the idea of DH doing all the nappies! In parentcraft classes they recommend him settling baby down for the night as they may settle better when they can't smell the milk so that might be my cue to have a soak in the bath! Smile

I have done a birth plan that is very minimal to be honest, I have SPD so need to keep moving, I would like to avoid pethodine, I am consultant lead but do not want to be monitored all the time and everything else check with me or DH at the time
And in the 3rd stage stuff its skin to skin, breastfeeding, vit K and placenta delivery. I went through it with my MW at 34 weeks and she was great to discuss things. She recommended keeping an open mind to things and ask questions at the time.

Now its bed time I'm uncomfortable again so starting a Gavin and Stacey marathon

vallinnapod · 17/05/2011 10:33

Ohh I too think I'll float the nappy changing idea!

The homeopathy thing yesterday was Ok. No real hints and tips, although if anyone is planning to use arnica I have one. I had been told by a friend to start taking it a couple of weeks before but the doc said not to do this. Homeopathy treats like for like. If you have no bruising and take arnica it can cause bruising or bruising type feeling.

My stash of newborn clothes arrived from Asda direct yesterday (great value) and they are really too cute.

Bub is being very active at the moment which is great. Definitely getting stronger kicks, can't really imagine what it will be like when he is another couple of months bigger!

I have a lovely Hmm moment to share with you all! Getting out the shower this morning. Drying myself off and start to have an absolute panic as the is a huge smear of red blood on the towel. Grab some loo roll to wipe and nothing Confused. Look down and the bath mat is covered in blood...turns out shaving my legs I hacked a huge chunk out of my ankle...Blush didn't even feel it!

I've been waking up really early and today feel pretty rough for it. Of course tomorrow, when I am back at work, I will find it impossible to get up!

nickelbabe · 17/05/2011 12:03

ow! I've done that blood thing too - last week at church, I bit off a hang-nail, and was bleeding everywhere for about half an hour!

I love arnica - who would guess that it worked so well on bruising (i bruise easily and it's a god send sometimes!)

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 18/05/2011 10:40

Where have all the viroids gone???

Anything happening down your way cowboy?

Grin
vallinnapod · 18/05/2011 10:47

I'm here...back at work and so unmotivated. I have so much to do but a completely 'meh!' attitude. Not good considering I have my performance review tomorrow and two and a half months until mat leave starts...

nickelbabe · 18/05/2011 10:50

I'm here!
decidedly pissed off today, after a huge rant at the PCC meeting last night.
jsut been talking to the church warden, who agreed with me about I shouldn't be stressed out like that in my condition - she did say that only about half of the PCC knows about my condition, though. Fair point, but the protaganist knows about it, so why have a go at me??

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 18/05/2011 11:09

and breathe Nickel! Has your parcel arrived? Sent it Monday, so hopefully won't take too long Smile

nickelbabe · 18/05/2011 11:15

i can't breathe anymore - my chest feels really tight (it could be the bra).
Wink

no, the parcel hasn't arrived yet, but I'll confirm when it has (sometimes DH brings parcels in after work)

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 18/05/2011 11:18

Ok here's a tip, breathe into your belly so that it inflates on breathing in, and deflates on breathing out - should calm you down. Undo your bra a hook!
