Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's been busy so just catching up!

I had loads of stretch marks at 24 weeks that seamed to come over a weekend but I don't think I have added any new ones recently.

I hate the bump comments and can't believe the ones some of you have had! I just keep getting asked am I having a 10lber and all I can say is not long till I find out! Nothing like making a newbie feel the fear egh?

I have no experience of cloth nappies but my aunt raves about the bum genius ones. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it already so sorry for repeating if they have just check your local council for schemes with vouchers ect and next weeks cloth nappy week so there are a few offers around.

Is Alba also the Scottish language TV channel? I think it would be a lovely name. It's so hard to pick and I don't think we are 100% yet so I hope it is true that you will know when you see them. We are not going to use a middle name, is that unusual?

Loving all the shopping sprees Smile

cowboylover · 10/05/2011 19:54

Posted to soon; sorry not been on I stayed overnight in the hospital as had not help the baby move for a while so went in fir monitoring.

MW described baby as elusive as she didn't have and then as soon the the monitors when on her she kicked the so they couldn't get good readings and they wanted it consistent before I left.

Apparently in latent phase so could be starting to happen after the false start before but she is currently back to back so fingers crossed she moves again.

Been advised to rest and walk lots so if I'm not sleeping I should be walking stopping only to bounce on a ball at meal times Smile

vallinnapod · 10/05/2011 19:59

"Been advised to rest and walk lots so if I'm not sleeping I should be walking stopping only to bounce on a ball at meal times" - doesn't the rest of that sentence totally contradict rest?! Confused Smile

My nappies arrived, beyond cute...Teddy is never wearing clothes Grin

cowboylover · 10/05/2011 20:06

Yep that's the face I did as well!

There is no way I am not soaking in the bath or getting DH to give me a massage before the night out out Smile

aStarInStrangeways · 10/05/2011 20:34

vallinna it may comfort you to know that Itti Bittis are fantastic nappies, really absorbent and leakproof and wash really well, so choosing them purely because they look so cute is entirely justified Grin

I would love to put this little one in nowt but Itti Bittis, tbh, but we can't really spare the expense (even though in the long run it's a saving). I have a bag full of assorted other clothies that I need to sell on if possible, and should be scouting around for 2nd hand bargains, but just keep forgetting Blush Is anyone else's brain like a sieve at the moment?

cbl hooray for latent labour! Here's hoping she comes soon, although not before turning right way round :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/05/2011 23:08

Ohh exciting stuff with the latent labour CBL. Fingers crossed for some real action soon.

I'm apparently to tired to sleep. Grr. I did have a good MW appt though. LO was poked in the bottom Grin and tried to hide from the heart rate monitor Grin.

takethatlady · 11/05/2011 09:06

Ooh cowboy this sounds exciting!!! Though I am afraid that once you give birth that leaves me and coaaf pretty exposed. I need cover from the other pregnant ladies! Especially as I am currently on board a train to Aberdeen to give a paper at the uni there, and staying with the organiser at his house in Inverurie - so almost as far from home as it is possible to get! LO is kicking like a little monkey so I think she's happy enough in there :)

Alba is a beautiful name (as are Daisy and Elspeth :)). I think it is the name of the daughter in The Time Traveller's Wife, if I remember correctly.

Left my book on the earlier connecting train (though not my ticket, thank Christ, especially since I was going to use it as a bookmark!) and unbelievably I have actually finished my paper in advance, so I have now got time to go off to look up itti bitti nappies now :). It was £50 cheaper for first class than standard on the train Hmm so I might as well make use of all the free wi-fi!

takethatlady · 11/05/2011 09:07

PS. Much cuteness at your mw appt coaaf :)

vallinnapod · 11/05/2011 09:34

Thanks star - they arrived last night and seem fab! Far smaller leg holes (therefore minimal leakage potential!) than the TotsBots on the smallest fitting and the minky outer means all the leg and wait seams feel reall soft against the skin. I won't lie....we practised putting them on out polar bear teddy...and then put him in the car seat Blush Grin

LOL COAAF - they must get fed but! Teddy hid his face at our last scan, either in the placenta or behind his hand!

Enjoy the train TTL - I am a bit sad and really like train journeys! We are off to Scotland (for the big 3-0!) on Friday!! London to Glasgow, first class (again, because it was actually cheaper than standard, although DH insists it is because it's my birthday and we'd have gone that way whatever Smile!). Can't wait Grin

vallinnapod · 11/05/2011 09:35

Wow shocking spelling this morning - sorry!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/05/2011 09:52

Oh TTL we'll be in the same city for all of about 2 minutes today (as your train passes through). Hope the world doesn't implode or something!

Grin at your polar bear practice session Vallinna, very cute.

takethatlady · 11/05/2011 10:11

I'm getting off at Edinburgh for an hour or so, maximising the chances of universe-implosion I reckon Grin!

Loving the train journey vallinna. Was going to do more work but I think I'll have a panini and a little sleep now. If only this was my usual working day, kicking back on the train for hours. Oooh exciting about your 30th. Mine and DH's are next year (no doubt Isobel will be born on 4th July this year, on my 29th birthday, so my 30th will be forgotten in the excitement of her first :))

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/05/2011 10:31

Isn't Dyna in Edinburgh? I know one of the still JS'ing Viroids is (pulling a total blank I'm so bad!!). I'm just up the road. The Aberdeen train only stops here for a couple of mins to let people on and off. But I do know it passes this way as my DS is obsessed with trains and thinks a great afternoon out is to stand on the pedestrian bridge by the station and watch trains coming in and out. Oh the fun of it. Grin NervousNelly that's who I'm thinking of.

vallinnapod · 11/05/2011 11:27

LOL and COAAF and DS waving at every train Grin

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 11/05/2011 14:59

Squiglet (such is his or her name) is definitely getting bigger and stronger by the day, keep getting hoofed Grin

Not complaining, but it is such an odd feeling, especially at work!

Glad you're having a nice comfy train ride TTL Smile

nickelbabe · 11/05/2011 16:19

had a dentist appointment this morning. I still haven't got my maternity card, but they let me not pay Grin
(am very grateful to them!)
I had a tiny white filling, where there was a bit of a crack - i've had this sensitive tooth for a while, and last time the dentist couldn't see anything, but filled a broken tooth in the hope it was that. this time she said she'd decided it must be this crack, because that's the only thing that could possibly be exposed.
I haven't had a chance to test it yet, too scared to muck about with it in case it comes out! thankfully, it's on the outside of of my mouth, in my cheek iyswim, so it's not near my tongue-poking space. Grin

I also got my scan appointment through yesterday, which I immediately had to change, because it was for 2:45 on the same day as my PCC meeting.
I've changed it for ¼ to 4 on the 24th.
I still have to close the shop early, but it's 2 weeks' notice, so i'm sure they'll all cope!

vallinnapod · 11/05/2011 16:37

You are braver than me Nickel I really should go to the dentist, bit worried about my gums receeding...I used to love going, and until the grand old age of 27 I had had no need for anything. Then I got pissed, fell down the stair, split mny chin open and crack a back molar so badly I sheared a piece away and needed a crown Blush then about a year later it go infects Blush Now my wallet and I petrified of future trips Grin

Annoying about your scan appointment - the NHS really couldn't care about people's day jobs and convenience! You'll find you have loads more choice with your 20 week one as if it is anything like mine you make it as you leave you 12 week!

Anyone else have odd moments when they feel like bub is kicking down sort of in to the bowel?!

Oh, massive fail on maternity bras AGAIN! At least I didn't take off and throw away the labels before realising it this time. Think I am just going to head to M&S for some padded, non-wired t-shirt bras. My poor boobs required 2 visits to the disabled loo today so I could sit sans bra for 10 mins Grin

vallinnapod · 11/05/2011 16:45

I was inspired by you Nickel and just made a dentist appointment Confused My dentist 'doesn't do NHS' so will have to pay - I have only ever been to this dentist Grin it will be traumatic enough when he retires, which must be soon!

nickelbabe · 11/05/2011 16:48

ow! I broke my back moalr too - they told me I would need a gold tooth or a crown, which I really didn't want.
9 years later, I only went back because the sensitivity was annoying me.
she just put a white filling in, and it's still fine 8 months on.

DH had a crown, which managed to make his tooth rot away completely, so they took the tooth out. (probably the best scenario!)
my teeth are good, though, see -> Grin

I wasn't worried about rearranging it - the midwife who did my booking appointment said it was likely I'd have to, so I hoped that meant they wouldn't mind!

DO NOT go to M& S - they're bloody crap crap crap at bras. Angry

nickelbabe · 11/05/2011 16:49

you'll have to find a dentist that does then!
(seriously, it'll save you a fortune! )
I just waited till I needed "an emergency appointment" and signed up to that dentist.
Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/05/2011 16:58

I agree an the M&S crap braness. I had to get mat bras from them and I'm now patiently waiting for LO to arrive so that my ribs go back to normal and my boobs settle into bfing, so that I can go and buy some comfy, properly fitting feeding bras.

Vallinna I get the occassional twinge in the bowel/fanjo area which feels like LO has hit a nerve. It's very odd. Then of course there are the elbows in the bladder.

nickelbabe · 11/05/2011 17:06

All the books I've read said to get your feeding bras at 39 weeks.

does that help?

I've already grown out of the bras I bought a couple of weeks ago - they were only cheap, and will fit when I'm back to normal.
I was absolutely desperate for bras, though, I couldn't have waited any longer (all my old bras were falling apart)

they're not uncomfortable, though, because htey're not wired or anything (thank God!)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/05/2011 19:53

Mostly I'm waiting until LO is here to give us time to have money to buy the damn things with. It all depends if the baby engages at 39 weeks and drops down from the ribs. I do vividly recall my boobs seemingly growing to porn star proportions for the first few days after DS was born as the milk came in which is the other reason I'm waiting (sounds better than I'm to skint for this baby).

Dynababy · 11/05/2011 21:36

Yes I am in Edinburgh - waving at TTL as she passes by!! Grin COAFF you have a good memory as both me and Nervous are here. Wonder how NN is getting on? She was taking a break from JS'ing last time she popped in...

Cowboy sorry you've been in hospital and sorry you've been asked to walk constantly ..sounds pretty knackering! Fingerscrossed it works quickly to get you properly into labour.

I'm a bit worried about feeding bras as I'm already a G cup!! So what's going to happen to my already ample porno stylee bust when the milk comes in Confused

NervousNelly · 11/05/2011 21:59

My ears are burning Grin! I do stalk you lovely ladies quite regularly, but just had to post to say yes, not only do I live in Edinburgh, but I lived in Inverurie for my first 15 years and was a little Shock to see it on a MN thread!! Have fun in my home town TTL ! And also lived in Aberdeen for quite a long time too. How exciting you are all heading my way :)

We are still JSing, just not very often unfortunately! I've also had a bit of a scare as I found a lump on my breast yesterday :( Went to the private GP at my work today so I've been referred to the Breast Clinic. She stressed it's just a precaution and I'm just being careful, but a little alarming none the less. Makes me even more determined to keep trying for a wee bundle of joy though :)

Good luck to those due soon, particularly CBL! You lot do still make me chuckle, hence I can't quite let you go Wink. Is it wrong that the main one reason I'm upset to not be up-diffed yet is that I can't go on the journey with you all?? .

Keep chatting ladies, I'll keep stalking. And maybe have sex once in a while Grin.

Mwahs all round
