Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

OP posts:

frakyouveryverymuch · 09/05/2011 19:11

nickel DS's middle name is Horatio - 19th century enough? Zachias is fab though!

I'm still knackered. We're having a growth spurt here with no sleep and loads if feeding but he's put 600g on his birth weight in 2,5 week and gained 800g in total over 2 weeks as he was 200g below when we were discharged from hospital 2 weeks ago. I on the other hand am 3kg above pre-pregnancy weight and I swear it's all boob. No stretch marks either Wink

takethatlady · 09/05/2011 19:17

Horatio is fantastic. frak that's great news about baby's weight, and I'm sure your tits are fantabulous Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/05/2011 19:37

Good work on the growth rate there Frak. Your boobs are allowed to be huge and heavy as they are obviously full of top quality milk.

Star it's interesting that you were required to be tested for GTT due to immediate family having type 2 diabetes. My Mum has it and yet no one mentioned a thing about testing me for it. To late now!

Nickel there are some awesome old fashioned names. The Puritans came up with a few that have slipped my mind. How about Enoch?

I have to admit that Home and Away has been keeping me amused the last week or so. First Colleen was going on about Toni Braxton contractions Grin and now Nicole is having a stupidly fast labour with her first baby (on the beach no less). It really is trash Grin

Eskarina · 09/05/2011 20:02

Nickel If we have a boy it's a James too (though chances are we're having a girl). That's been decided independently by me and DH for years - it's my Grandad's name (he died when I was 18) and a significant one for DH too. Plus it's not toooo bad on nicknames. Also like the idea of a less usual middle name.
My girl's name is Miriam Grace, though DH doesn't know it yet Blush. But he's being very sweet about names - he said a while ago that I clearly have stronger feelings about names (esp girls) than him and whatever he suggests is unlikely to meet my criteria, so I get to come up with a list and he'll work from there. I'm a teacher and would be unable to get away from the associations of certain names (have never taught a nice Joel, which is not to say that they don't exist, of course they do, but I just couldn't have my child going round with those associations for me)

Vallinna which nappies did you go for in the end? I've got a set of Tots Bots Bamboozles (old style) which I got 2nd hand, though they look unused. But given the discounts on this week and the £50 we get from Herts council I'm sorely tempted to order a set of bumgenius and/or Flips.

BrassicaBabe · 09/05/2011 20:10

Contratulations on the weights all round frak! Both yours and Ds's Grin

Welcome back coaaf Glad the absence was short.

Sat here with a cheeky pimms. It is bliss indeed. (I'm a drunken bum compared to many of you lovelies. I have a small glass of something about 4 times a week.)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/05/2011 20:36

Oh Esk I used to have a flatmate Joel. He was lovely. Having said that my Dad used to be a teacher which is why my sister isn't called Michelle (where as oddly my name was taken from one of his students).

Runs waddles up to BB snatchs pimms out of her hand and downs it in one. Oh alchohol how I miss thee!! Staggers off drunkenly to collapse in a heap, remembering why I don't drink when pg.

Dynababy · 09/05/2011 21:50

Jees its busy in here today. I first of all thought cowboy might have gone into labour when I seen it at the top of the list!! Grin

Esk we did the price match, pramcentre was doing a bundle deal on the icandy peach so got JL to match which was great as same as you I want to fall back on their service if smething goes wrong!

I'm feeling all alone on the strech mark front!! Sad I got 4/5 on right bum cheek as I said ... but why there and why right cheek only!!?? I really hope I don't get more.. but I know they are heriditary and my mum got loads on hips and thighs with us. And I know the lotions and potions aren't supposed to do much but they can't hurt.

NCT .. BB WHALE music and breathing in through your leg OMG!!! We start our classes this Saturday and was starting to get nervous ... now I'm super nervous.... I'll probably blurt out something they really wouldn't appreciate!!!

Shock at all the personal comments on bump etc. TTL you get the prize for the worst! I've had few generic remarks .. one person oh your tiny, next oh your huge .. and yes I'm exactly average according to mw so just ignore Smile

Valinna well done on flat and congrats on shiny new purchases - its great fun shopping! We're taking holiday next week to decorate and finish shopping Grin

BB on booze .. I went to 6 month mark with nothing, since then have had small white wines and a shandy (on separet occasions obv) .. I blame the sunshine and extended abstinence - I couldn't take it anymore! Still dreaming of an ice cool white wine or glass of magners with lots of ice whenever its sunny.. which has been a lot lately!! Grin Bring on the birth and the Wine Grin

Dynababy · 09/05/2011 21:56

Frak really glad everything going well for you and baba is gaining nicely .. you 6k only gain for you is fantastic!!

takethatlady · 09/05/2011 23:12

coaaf Home and Away is one of my many many guilty pleasures Grin Loving the fact that Nicole announced she was pregnant when we were about six months gone or something, and now she's ready to pop. And that they're doing the classic 'oh my God my waters have just broken even though I wasn't in labour until two seconds ago, and this definitely also means that the baby is going to be here in another ten seconds max' story line Grin. If only you could have a labour that consisted almost entirely of the waters breaking ...

I've had six or seven glasses of wine since I've been pregnant (and three vodkas the day before I took my first test Grin). My mum started to express astonishment and amazement when I ordered a glass of Prosecco when we went for dinner the other week but then thought better of it and promptly kept quiet Grin. Someone else at a wedding didn't realise I was merrily drinking a glass of red wine and went on about how while for most babies alcohol was fine the problem was that some babies would have major damage if the mother only had one drink, and since nobody could tell what type of baby they had all mothers should abstain entirely. Tbh it seemed to make everybody else at the table a lot more uncomfortable than me, since I was sitting there with red-winey-lips Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/05/2011 23:24

Mmm wine would so helpme go to sleep right now... I had a sip of my sister's beer the other week and it was soo good. She wisely reclaimed her glass fairly quickly Grin

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 10/05/2011 08:59

Morning viroids! Just caught up on the epic weekend postings... wasn't the weather nice enough for you all? Wink I had a slightly weepy bloody hormonal session on Saturday - was knackered, hungry and had made dinner, I was just about to dish it up when DP announced that he must go out and buy himself a bottle of wine. I got a bit narked at this (as he refused the mini-bottle of wine in the cupboard) and when he came back had a teary rant at him for not making sacrifices (i.e. still drinking as much as he likes) when I can only have a few sips. Not entirely rational, but felt very real at the time. Hopefully might make him think though Hmm Anyone else done the same re: booze? Just didn't seem fair, when he really enjoys a drink, that he couldn't self-impose some sort of limit - like thinking to himself I'll just have a glass or two of wine rather than most of a bottle. Am I being totally unreasonable?

Looking at nappies at the moment, any recommendations for the cloth ones? It all seems a bit perplexing....

takethatlady · 10/05/2011 09:26

I've gone weirdly the other way katee, encouraging DH to drink and make up for what I can't have Hmm. Only when I wrote that down did I realise how weird it is Grin

Totally perplexed by cloth nappies too. Am going to ask about it at NCT on Thursday, as all I have managed to glean from people is that it's a matter of personal choice. I want answers, dammit!

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 10:06

Esk - i love Miriam Grace!
DH's middle name is James, and it's always been my favourite boy's name (lots of people in the Don line are James, and my first boyfriend was a James! Grin)

our second girl's name is Grace Alexandra (I don't like Alexandra, but it's DH's favourite name, so I conceded for a middle name, and Grace is his mum's first name) -it's 2nd girl's name because 1st girl will be Eleanor Katherine.

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 10:10

talking of drinking - DH had a can of beer last night, so I decided I should have some.
I got him to pour me just under an inch of beer into a narrow galss, and it was bloody horrible!
I used to drink loads of beer (so this pregancy has thankfully prevented me from being an alcoholic! Grin ), but it tasted like the first time you try it as a teenager. really nasty.
I did drink the whole inch, but it was not a pleasant experience.

vallinnapod · 10/05/2011 10:14

Frak Envy at the no stretch marks, 3kgs and a new baby Grin Glad you are settling in together. Fab middle name BTW!

I love H&A COAAF....makes me Aus-sick Smile

Esk went for Itti Bitti Tuttos. It was a close call between them and Bumgenius AIOs. The Itti Bittis swayed it as the minky outer is so cuddly (I am sure I should have decided on something a bit more practical on that!) Although I also like that you snap in and out the liner (rather than pocket it in the Bumgenius) as this means if it is just a little wee you don't have to wash the whole nappy. I also got 2 TotsBots EasyFits as the prints are so cool Grin Katee there is some info on this board in the product section, however I really recommend going to a Nappuccino event in your area (apologies, I think they are national but they may just be London) as you get to see all the types demo-ed, ask questions etc. Really helped DH understand too.

BB Mmmmmm Pimms....you lush Wink. Everyone has their 'vices'. I've not exactly been rigid on the food guidelines...I wouldn't purposefully eat something dodgy but bar 'bad' cheeses I have had pretty much everything else.

Well, I am knitting. Yup, knitting. I'm crap. I am making a blanket as the extend of the pitiful skills I have are squares, so it will be patchwork. I have done one, which took me two weeks...bub will be at least 1 before it is remotely finished. The patch I have done looks moth eaten already...!

frakyouveryverymuch · 10/05/2011 10:50

ttl we're doing terry squares - which are actually fab for newborns because you fold them to be the right size - and ME airflow wraps. I think the terries may have a short lifespan though, as DS already wets through 4 layers, so the less padded folds will require a booster at the very least. We've also got the motherease one size nappies but DS is still a bit skinny for them. They are SUPER absorbent though.

I love our 1 bumgenius, might have to get some more pocket nappies for out and about. I have to say you do need to try them out but you can narrow it down a bit if you set yourself a budget or you need them dry quickly without a tumble dryer etc.

I'm still alcohol free, not that I drank that much anyway, as DS seems to want to feed constantly so I'd never be able to get it out of my system before he imbibed it all.

Puritan names are truly awesome. Some great (and not so great) virtue names here including the best slogan name ever: If-Christ-had- not-died-for- thee-thou-hadst- been-damned and names like Continent, Humiliation and Tribulation.

Hurry up someone else and give birth so we can have a PN thread!

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 11:26

ooh, well done on the names find frak Grin thanks!

vallinnapod · 10/05/2011 12:09

Bags 'Humilation' for DC2 Grin

Not that I want to give brith just yet but I am willing away the next 16.5 weeks! Can you imagine, your DS will be on his way to 5 months then?!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/05/2011 12:27

There are other pn viroids about Frak. I think they just need reminding of their viroid origins Grin

I've decided that Currant Bun will be in disposables for the first few weeks while I figure out reusables. I'll be going for second hand (for a start at least), but we just don't have the funds right now (grr). It doesn't help that the local real nappy network has just shut down due to a lack of funding! Maybe I'll just wrap CB in rags for the first 6 months of it's life Grin.

My girls name of choice is Alba (chosen the day before we found out DS is a DS not DD). It made a bit more sense when we didn't live in Scotland. Now I see it everywhere as a trading name so am not so sure. Though it is also Italian/Latin (Dawn/Light) so still perfectly lovely.

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 12:29

ah, now I like Ptolemy! - there's a thread in baby names about it!

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 12:30

I probably wouldn't use Alba in scotland - because although it means White, it's also a corruption of Albion, which is British - some scots might take offence Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/05/2011 12:39

Ah but you see, Alba is plastered everywhere as meaning Scotland so there can't be to many Scots taking offence.
I've like Elspeth since I was a teenager (odd considering I don't like Elizabeth), but now that I actually have kids to name I keep changing my mind. Daisy is still a contender (if DH can be convinced) and as for boys names we're at a lose! Grin Mayb e CB will have to be called Indecisive (that'd be like an anti-puritan name) Grin
Ask me a few days after Currant Bun arrives if it has a name yet.

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 13:15

ah, okay. I didn't know taht connection. Grin
(maybe it would be a good name to give her then!)

nickelbabe · 10/05/2011 13:15

I like Daisy.
very pretty.

and Elspeth, actually.

Dynababy · 10/05/2011 19:42

Alba is Gaelic for Scotland so not offensive to us scots at all! Personally I think its a lovely name and still unusual as a girls name here ... go for it COAF!! Grin

Where is Cowboy?? Hmm Grin Frak I'm wondering if your wish for more viroid offspring may be coming true!
