cakeycakeandbooze I did not barf once. My mum did not ever barf either. I still can't eat peas or drink camomile or peppermint tea though. I do not know why.

WHOOP for the good news Trufflet am soooo pleased for you. I fear I rather floored my brother like that when he rang me to announce his wife's prg and I wept copiously and told them about the mc I'd had. There are some conversations that are always shit no matter how you try and wrap them up but you have done the right thing by telling her and hopefully she will feel okay with it in time - but it's hard. At least she will know that you can understand why it's hard.

I say yes to vit k but not sure what form it will take yet; depends whether I can bear to see nurse sticking needle in PFB. PFB will probably not give a rat's ass what is going on.

Orchid12 · 09/05/2011 21:25

We did the oral vit K. MW did the first one and we did the other two. Not advised to do the oral one if you have a 'traumatic' birth, only advised if have a 'normal' birth. Will be going for oral Vit K again if all goes ok. If not, will opt for the injection. MW's seemed happy either way here and were happy to let us choose.

Lovely news Truffles Grin

Ginfox · 09/05/2011 22:12

Fanks for the Vit K thoughts folks. I appreciate that the NCT want you to make informed decisions about such matters, and not to just blindly accept what Drs/MWs tell you. But if the evidence for and against is poor, how are you supposed to decide? Too many things for my brain to menkul about.

laurielou · 10/05/2011 08:00

Morning!

Truffs Thanks for coming out of hiding & putting our minds at ease - you know how we fret Wink. Seriously, fab scan news & sounds like some lovely reactions to your news. I feel for you & your friend. I too had 3 years of nothing for me, yet taking on board lots of friends' good news. However unlike your friend I hadn't confided in anyone. I was always able to separate my joy for them & despair for me, but still cried every time. You both sound like you have a strong friendship, & obviously care a great deal about each other. For what its worth I think the way you've handled it by giving her some time but arranging to meet up so that she can still be involved is just the perfect way of dealing with a less than perfect situation.

Cake fret not about the lack of vomming. I felt nauseous but at the risk of making many ESH's hate me have only actually barfed 4 times during my entire diffment. I'm now 37 weeks, the size of a small country & Bug is apparently doing just fine.

Talking of which, MW appt all good. Like you Scorps I got full marks for BP & urine. My usual MW was on a training course, but I liked this lady muchly too. She immediately felt the top of my bump & commented that we have a lovely feeling baby in there Grin. And best of all she said head is definitely down, very low down. So we're all good to go Shock Grin. HB was all great - in fact she said that we have a very relaxed, chilled out baby who seems very happy. She reckons that they'll continue to be relaxed & sleep throughout the night Grin. Pliz to be seeking her out & kicking her ass if this isn't the case. Next appointment for 2 weeks, but she told me to feel free to have the baby in the meantime. Eh, no, you're OK thanks.

So, I feel a Bucks Fizz & croissant brekky coming on - pliz to share.

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 09:36

Great bump news all round then. Really glad Bug is head down now loz Just a waiting game now.

Chilled baby, you say? Sprout is mega active at night, I don't think this is a good sign!!! Mind you she is pretty chilled during the day so maybe that will compensate. Ah who knows!

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 10:23

Buggy and car seat just arrived!! That's my afternoon sorted then :o

AlpinePony · 10/05/2011 10:31

re: Vit K. Didn't even think about this - I know it's all about "choices" etc., but it really is down past number 100 on "things that will concern you on the big day". Bear had the injection FWIW. I still "lol" when I read overly-elaborate "birth plans". Wink As for them sticking a needle in your PFB, yep, they'll do that anyway for the heel-prick and it'll make you want to vomit out your insides when the baybee howls - and then at 8 weeks they'll be getting some vaccinations. And at some point you'll let them roll off the couch/bed - we've not done this yet but it'll happen.

Ginfox I can almost guarantee that your biggest worry will be "wwaaaaaaaah - are these arseholes (medics) really going to let us take this precious thing home with us? I mean srsly? We kill spider plants."

rocket I loved the cardi thing - you are ever so talented.

Are we going to have a cluster-lay?

Truffkin · 10/05/2011 10:54

Fabulous bump news from everyone, lovely to hear! I think my next 'milestone' will be feeling movement and although I've previously thought yuk, weird! I am now looking forward to it!

Loz thanks so much for your comments about my friend, I really hope I've handled it ok and made it as 'easy' as possible for her. We've emailed a few times since Sunday and although she's being honest about not feeling brilliant, she is happy for us snd wants to be involved. I've also asked her to tell me what she needs as we go along.

I've seen my consultant this morning and she was lovely, answered all of my questions, talked through everything and referred me back to MW-lead yippee! The group B strep thing is related to the fact that it was found in urine, rather than a swab, which means it's significant enough for them to put me down for IV anti-Bs in labour, regardless of what happens between now and then. She said if everything else remains low risk that won't prevent me using the birth centre though. Good appointment all round (even if I did have to wait for 50 mins Hmm )

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:12

thanks pone Blush

Well this is not a good start. the car seat doesn't seem to fit. It moves from side to side and tips up really easily. It just doesnt seem sturdy at all and I have refitted it about 4 times. NOT HAPPY :(

CurlyCasper · 10/05/2011 11:13

great bump news!

which seat, which car Rocket?

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:17

The cabrofix curly we are getting a base off my cousin in a few months time when her daughter has grown out of it so only need to use the belt system for a little while, otherwise i think i would have bought a base.

cosmonaughty the postie just arrived bearing th book. Thank you very much!!!

CurlyCasper · 10/05/2011 11:22

We use the Cabriofix. You have to kind of lift the foot end a bit once belted and wedge it in, if that makes any sense. Probably doesn't. Have you got the belt in the hook at the back ok? (And have you found the hidden sun visor thing that most people fail to discover for months/years? Same goes for the instructions book in the back compartment).

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:29

Been trying to find the visor and couldn't! I knew it was there but can't find it and I also thought they had sent it with out instructions

I have sort of wedged it down, but if you hit upwards on the back of the head rest it tips RIGHT upwards. surely this is not right? Also it moves from side to side quite a bit. If we had a bad crash surely this would mean the baby got flung around all over the place? I am not sure if i am just judging it against the stone age one my friend has been using that she got from the children's centre because its massive and pretty heavy so just seems much sturdier.

Muser · 10/05/2011 11:32

I only knew about that damn instruction booklet thanks to mumsnet. Stupid bloody design. We do the seatbelt as we don't use the car enough to make a base worthwhile. Once you get the knack it's dead easy. But if you're me you will consistently get the straps the wrong way round.

Muser · 10/05/2011 11:35

It shouldn't move much at all if it's in right. You need to pull the belt really tight after. And the lap belt goes across the baby's lap. This is where I went wrong.

CurlyCasper · 10/05/2011 11:37

The visor is under the plastic (where it meets fabric) at the top. Once ours came out, it was never put back. It shouldn't tip forwards unless really forced if fitted right, but might wiggle side to side a little bit. I suppose you have to think about it in term of how a person moves within a seatbelt. You can move your bum side to side, but it would stop you being thrown forward in an impact.

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:47

Yup just found the visor, you have to kind of pop that plastic rim bit off with the button to get it out. Sod putting it away again properly. And instructions found. I sort of see what you mean curls if you kind of lift the foot end upwards a bit then it does fit much tighter. Hmm. going to wait til TB comes home and see what he thinks with it as it is now.

muse i have no problems with the straps because i have fitted my friends car seat in my car so many times. Can you believe they drove all the way to London and back with their 3 week old with the car seat fitted facing forwards? Wasn't until i took them out in my car and showed em how to fit it properly they realised. Bloody lucky they didnt have a crash Shock

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:50

Thanks both of you btw. Feeling a bit happier about it now. ESHtastic as ever.

Apols to everyone else for hijacking thread :o

Cosmosis · 10/05/2011 11:52

Glad it arrived ok.

Re carseat, it does depend on your car though, it fits mine great (w reg Renault megane) but DH?s sporty Alfa estate it doesn?t, so we had to get the base. We got the family fix base, which means we have to buy the pearl as next seat up, but what we didn?t realise at the time is that the pear ONLY fits with the base, which doesn?t fit in my car as I don?t have isofix mountings so we need to buy 2 next stage seats. Annoying. Anyway, that rant is nothing to do with you!

rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 11:55

That is annoying. (rant away) Our car doesn't have isofix fittings either. The base we are getting from cuz is still fitted with the seat belt but just means its easier to take the carseat in and out. So i hope that the base fits a bit better than the car seat! I think it's to do with the rockers on the bottom, there is no flat bit so its bound to move about a bit more.

At what point do you take the new born bit out?

CurlyCasper · 10/05/2011 12:03

when the baby looks squished!

AlpinePony · 10/05/2011 12:08

I don't have isofix. And I never felt I was missing out. Carrying the baby around in the carseat when out and about lasts approximately 4 weeks until you realise that your muscles don't resemble those of Geoff Capes - and, from my pov I hate seeing babies crushed up and dragged around for hours in seats - especially in hot weather. :( So the carseat remained in the car and the baybee was removed instead. As for stage 2, really, just how difficult is it to put the baybee in the seat? Oh, and we don't have a 5-door because we drive a sports coupe geriatric mobile.

AlpinePony · 10/05/2011 12:09

Oh, managed to fuck up nearly ALL of the syntax there. Awesome. Thank god I no longer make my money programming.

Scorpette · 10/05/2011 12:29

We don't have Isofix either and it took us aaages to work out the frankly BDSM-style arrangement of seat beltage that secures the seat firmly. It took several tries, with me getting increasingly waily about how wobbly it was but we finally worked it out. The instructions were about as clear as mud (M&P model). Mind you, we rarely take the car out as TYF cycles to work and we handily live near walking distance of a supermarket, PO, etc.

Well, I nearly had some excitement this morning - started to rouse from sleep for my 80000th wee of the night @6am when I felt a very strong 'pop' in my foof. That woke me up properly and I hoisted my bulk out of bed. Nothing leaking as I waddled to the loo, so I thought, okay, not waters breaking, so maybe is mucus plug coming away? Get to the loo, nowt on me gusset, so I cigared like the good ole days - nuffink. As I wee in confusion, there's more popping feelings - realise the big pop must have just been a really impressive fanny fart due to legs being wedged open by pillow Blush Blush Blush Nice.

Loz, great news about the excellent MW appointment, thought I don't appreciate all these health professionals giving us the green light to lay, do you? Wink The Lad goes mental after midnight, so if I go by your MW's theory that's me not sleeping until I'm nearly 60, then Confused

OP posts:
rocketleaf · 10/05/2011 13:32

ahahahahhaah "well, I thought I had gone into labour but it turned out to be a massive fanny fart" Classic.

Yeah I think Isofix is a waste of money pone wouldnt have bought one but we are getting given the seat belt fixed one (possibly the easyfix?) for free so not going to complain.
