New thread. Should last us a week.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ok really daft question but do I need to buy fitted sheets for the moses basket and if so how many?

Thornykate · 09/05/2011 23:00

crazy I would get a few but don't overbuy as you can always use pillowcases if you get behind on the laundry as the mattress will fit inside a plowcase :)

moog I like a few of those affirmations might borrow them thanks!

nicki agree that funerals can bring out the worst in families :( hope you are as ok as can be

I think I would have cried at carpet chewing incident.

My mind is now blank for namechecks I am feeling sorry for myself again unfortunately. I love that DS1 is back at home now but am struggling around the house as they are not doing anything bad but I feel like I always need to be on their case re revision etc & tidying up after themselves. DP will be home a lot more as from baby's due date so I just need to hang on a while longer. DP more than pulls his weight around the house & funny enough the boys all fix up a bit when he's home too Hmm

Hope everyones bumps are behaving. I keep getting a feeling I will go overdue & I pray I don't!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/05/2011 23:01

Crazy I used a flat cot sheet folded in half when DS was in his crib (same size as a mb). It was large enough to stay secure under the mattress, but not so big as to get in the way or bunch. I had two sheets (which were washed often I recall Grin)

As you possibly can tell by the late hour, my 'short power nap' this afternoon was actually a long 2hr plus nap and now I'm not tired.

takethatlady · 09/05/2011 23:05

crazychic never fear, the tea-drinking/dehydration thing is a myth. It now officially counts as part of your daily water consumption, because you'd have to drink so much of it for it to dehydrate you that you'd probably drown in it first Grin

Ladies, I forgot to mention to those of you who also love mini eggs that there is a new Cadbury's mini-egg dessert :) It is amazing. It's one of those really gloopy chocolate moussey type puddings with a little side pot of mini eggs. It is amaaaaazing... and they're on offer at Tesco's ...

takethatlady · 09/05/2011 23:18

At the risk of sounding like a complete nutbag tea-defender (which I have to be, loving tea as much as I do Grin) here are links to two studies which say that tea is actually as hydrating as water:

here

and

here

Admittedly the last piece of research was sponsored by the UK Tea Council, but it was peer-reviewed and I'm taking it Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/05/2011 23:29

Mmm pudding. I saw a Gu ad this evening and nearly dribbled! Gosh remember the days Gu was for pee tests rather than hormone induced cravings?!

takethatlady · 10/05/2011 08:12

The versatility of the Gu pudding is what makes it so special coaaf Grin

sasamaxx · 10/05/2011 08:29

Ohhhh TTL I do love positive tea-research, being the crazy tea addict that I am.
I need it very hot - made at proper boiling temp (or it tastes wrong), not too strong with just a splash of milk. Oh and it tastes a million times better in a china mug Grin.
A good cup of tea goes with absolutely anything - sweet or savoury - yum yum.

Joannezipan · 10/05/2011 08:38

Hummmm Tea...I remember that. I always forget about mine and it goes cold, by then i'm really thirsty so I drink it anyway not realising it will be stone cold as it was made an hour ago and end up making awful faces. In view of the 2-3 cup a day limit I gave up completely except for special occasions when i found out i was PG. Oh and I HATE Decaf coffee! Oh crap better go to work - boooo! :)

jasmine51 · 10/05/2011 09:12

OMG just read about Kelly Brook - what is going on in the celeb world, is it me or is there an unnatural late pg loss amongst them? So sad...and grateful to be at the stage we all are where all our bubs are that much safer (fingers crossed obviously)

On a lighter note, have just realised that I am now the next edd in our aquanatal class...eeek.

Have a tea filled, Gu filled, water guzzling day everyone x

takethatlady · 10/05/2011 09:23

I can't believe it about Kelly Brook either. It's all just so worrying. And the worst thing is that people come out with such utter bullshit about it in the media all the time - they described what happened to Amanda Holden and Lily Allen as 'miscarriages' when they were stillbirths, and I heard a woman on the radio today saying it was a shame that celebrities have to announce their pregnancies so early because it makes it so difficult for them when they lose babies, as inevitably happens Shock! She was five months' pregnant - how was she supposed to keep it a secret, by living under a rock?! And five months is so late to lose a baby. Again, I think it's a total failure to understand the difference between mc and stillbirth. Not that I am at all belittling the pain and horror of miscarriage - my own chemical pregnancy was upsetting enough and it was about as early as you can lose a pregnancy, and I know that all losses are losses and the pain and trauma of it is not necessarily related to the stage of pregnancy. But these women have had to give birth to their babies and then listen to utter crap about what they've been through in the media.

Woah, I didn't know I felt so strongly about this!

On a lighter note, sasa, I bow down to your tea conoisseurship Grin I am a milk and two sugars girl myself!

jasmine51 · 10/05/2011 09:32

Has anyone used Moxy sticks for a breech bub before? I was given some yesterday and I'm glad I read the instructions because I had visions of sticking them somewhere unmentionable and trying to smoke the LO out! Anyway, am now trying to work out how to put them on my toes when I havent been able to reach down there for weeks. Anyone a fan of them? I'm thinking Motherofsnortpigs...you know alot about these kinds of things?

All you tea monsters...you can have mine, tea is the drink of the devil as far as I'm concerned, cant stand the stuff.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/05/2011 10:05

TTL - I totally agree with you there, Amanda lost hers at 7months, Katy at 6months - they were still births, not m/c Sad I think Amanda's & Katy's may have been caused by a virus they contracted, it may not have made them ill so they may not have realised they even had it Sad Kelly has also had a still birth at 5months, babies are born at this gestation and some can survive Sad

Trying to avoid all of that though as it makes me a bit panicky :(

Couriselle - yey for the refund! What a relief!

Crumble - Did you not get any kind of debrief after your first birth then? It seems odd that they gave you the syntocin drip when you weren't even over due, unless it had been a long time since your waters had broken? I am not surprised you are dwelling on it, I find myself also dwelling on the birth I had with DS as I am sure everyone else is who is not expecting their first, especially if it was a bad experience.

Nikki - glad your aunty had a good send off. I hope you found it cathartic. Don't be surprised though that you find yourself still getting upset, you are still grieving and all those pregnancy hormones will be making you feel even worse, so have a good cry if you need to and be gentle with yourself.

PerpetualProvocateur · 10/05/2011 11:06

Hi everyone, checking in quickly as I?m working from home today. Our nursery furniture arrived yesterday, so I?m trying to resist the urge to get in there and sort everything out. I start ML next week, so will have plenty of time to nest then!

Regarding Braxton Hicks contractions, my NCT class instructor said that we all have them, whether or not we notice them. After talking about them a bit, I realised that I?ve been having them since around 20, maybe 22 weeks. Mine don?t hurt at all; my bump just goes harder than usual for a few minutes and then releases. Sometimes, especially earlier on, I got a slight numb/tingly feeling with them. The others in my class who had noticed them said that theirs didn?t hurt either, but everyone is different and they might become more intense towards the end.

We?ve also been having a good clear-out and selling things on E-bay. It must be part of this nesting instinct! Jasmine, I agree that your buyer sounds well dodgy. I would never give my bank account details in that situation, but would try to relist or give the next highest bidder a second chance offer.

Crazy, Nurse, Kara, and anyone else who has had a home visit in preparation for a homebirth, could you please share a bit about what they are looking for? My MW will be coming round in two weeks and I want to be prepared.

Don?t forget your pelvic floor exercises!

NurseSunshine · 10/05/2011 11:23

Perpetual The MW didn't actually have a look round my house so I can't be of much help. I can't imagine what they'd be looking for as unless you lived in a tiny bedsit which wouldn't fit more than 2 people in I can't see why you'd be denied a HB because of your house. Yay for nursery furniture Grin

I've just had a visit from a lovely health visitor who's given me some info and something called the "Parenting Handbook". Who said babies don't come with instructions?!

PerpetualProvocateur · 10/05/2011 11:24

As if the nursery furniture weren't enough of a distraction, a box of goodies I ordered from the NCT shop just arrived, which of course I want to play with: a birthing ball, raspberry leaf tea, and a pack of oils for active birth, including perineal massage oil. Working from home is becoming increasingly difficult!

petitech · 10/05/2011 11:25

Presentation scan last night showed that the baby just has a bony bottom and isn't in fact the wrong way around :) woohoo! Just have to hope there is no further turning between now and D Day!
How is everyone today, it's nice and sunny here (NW) so trying to make the most of it and do some washing (rock n roll), ashamed to say, still in pjs but have been very productive since about 8 so don't feel too bad :)
Feel bit sad today as my DH left in a foul mood this morning, saying he got about 20mins sleep, apparently I was snoring all night :( We don't have a spare room now as that is now the nursery so am trying to look online for fold out beds that made be vaguely comfortable in an emergency! Does anyone have one of those fold out cube beds? Reckon one of those would be ok and double up as footrest.

PerpetualProvocateur · 10/05/2011 11:25

Sorry for x-posting, Nurse. It's strange that she didn't look round your house - I thought that was the whole point of the home visit!

takethatlady · 10/05/2011 11:35

petitech my parents have one of those beds and it's pretty comfy. But I recommend a good pair of earplugs for your DH - my DH now swears by them Grin

NurseSunshine · 10/05/2011 11:35

All my antenatal visits are at home now Perpetual, they're just normal antenatal checks but I don't have to go anywhere!

petitech · 10/05/2011 11:42

Where did he get good earplugs from, DH bought some but they were pretty crap.

takethatlady · 10/05/2011 11:59

I'll ask him when he gets home petitech - I think it was Boots but I know he tried one type and then switched to another. I think foam is better than silicone, or something, but I can't remember - I'll check. Poor DH's - nobody thinks it's them missing out on their sleep!

Joannezipan · 10/05/2011 12:20

Well when they do complain about it they just get the look don't they Hmm half way through the day now and I'm escaping the evil boss this afternoon -hooray! Then a day off tomorrow. Phew this week isn't as bad

Merlion · 10/05/2011 12:34

Yay petitech great news.

I also had good news as went back for check up today and blood pressure has lowered and not so much protein so they won't deliver next week but will just keep monitoring and baby can arrive when she's ready. A bit of a relief but I don't get signed off work - boo!

petitech · 10/05/2011 12:56

Good news Merlion ! Shame you couldnt ask your boss that you finish earlier on grounds of keeping blood pressure down?! :) That said, on only day 2 of mat leave I am already starting to go a bit stir crazy! The washing machine has been on constantly and I reckon all my 'jobs' will be finished by the end of this week, leaving next week and onwards to creatively think of things to keep me occupied, lots of people have said, read, watch films, chill out, as you won't be able to after but I think it's going to take me a couple weeks to slow down after being at work mon-fri. Any suggestions anyone? :) I was thinking of a spa day but not sure I can justify the expense!
