New thread. Should last us a week.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
8rubberduckies · 06/05/2011 13:13

There is a thread here with some good tips for stocking the freezer up, and a link to a website full of recipes for freezer food! I too am going to be clearing out the freezer next week and starting to fill it with yummies, rather than the random old naan breads and half-eaten baby-size portions that are in there at the moment!

Joanne why don't you take some time off sick? I can heartily recommend a bunk-off. I am finishing work today Smile and I am 34 weeks, and don't care Grin. I stuck it out longer last time and wished to god I'd finished earlier. I felt the same, that time taken this side was missing out on time on the other side with the baby, but time off sick now won't affect your maternity leave at all.

Our internet is kaput at home at the moment and have been relying on work PC, so not sure when I'll next be on after today, I will miss you all Smile!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 06/05/2011 13:16

Have been told no to a HB because of my weight.
However I am challenging this and will be getting a call from the supervisor next week.
However tbh if they still keep objecting I may well go to the MLU at the hospital, as I did like the look of it! Would just prefer to stay at home!

crumbletastic · 06/05/2011 13:44

I thought they are not allowed to deny anyone a hb kara, even those at high risk, only strongly advise against it. Obviously you would not want to do anything to put your baby at risk but a blanket ban because of weight is not on. You already have children I think? How was your previous labour(s)? Any complications?

Moog72 · 06/05/2011 13:48

Pushchair and carseat have arrived - how exciting!

Joanne - I completely understand as I am in a similar position to you. Am 34+3 and still have 3 full weeks left at work. With restless legs, indigestion and by 6 year old deciding to keep waking up in the night for some reason, I am shattered too. I second 8rd's advice re. sick days. Any ideas for good non-pregnancy related illnesses?? I think I am going to take a day or two off next week!

Nurse that sounds like a really good service and lovely that you'll know the midwife that delivers your baby. In my area it could be any midwife and is unlikely to be one I know. But I guess that is the same as being in hospital so can't really complain.

Kara what a shame - I didn't know that weight was a factor in these things. I hope the supervisor is more understanding..

KaraStarbuckThrace · 06/05/2011 14:57

Moog - yey for your pushchair and car seat arriving!!

Joanne - sorry meant to reply to your post to say that you should take some time off sick. They can only force you to start ML if you go off sick less than 4 weeks before your due date.

Crumble - yes I don't think they can deny me a HB but can strongly advise against one. However not many people are is clued up about this so unless you have read into it closely (I got some excellent advice from another HBer) you can see why some people may take it as a refusal.

My MW has accepted my objections but she has to take it to her supervisor as she has her own procedures to follow, but I think she is on my side.

Basically higher weight may mean more likelihood of diabetes and high blood pressure, she is in agreement that these factors are not an issue as I am healthy and there are no proteins in my urine. She did observe my feet are slightly swollen but we have both put that down to the heat (it is quite warm and sticky here!).
The other risk is shoulder dystocia which is more likely in obese women but again I was actually heavier with DS than I am now and I had a very fast, simple delivery with no such issues.

Nurse - that is great news, will be a big bonus knowing at least some of the MWs.

Joannezipan · 06/05/2011 15:01

moog very exciting to have th pushchair and car seat...It was as good as christmas when I got mine! Which reminds me I must try and do some putting up and collapsing practice!

Well I tried to call the MW and make an appointment for next week, but there aren't any :( So I'm going to have to hang on until the following week when I have my 36 week appointment anyway. I might ask her to sign me off then if things haven't improved. But according to the receptionist there is no chance of getting an appointment with the MW before then and there are no doctors appointments avalible before then either...my surgery is rubbish. Seriously considering switching when the DC pops out. Good job the MW is nice that's all I can say.

Nurse I'm glad your MW appointment went well. And Kara I'm sorry yours was not so good. For what it's worth I have a BMI over their "healthy" level too, but all that dis was add some points onto my risk rating, but seeing as those were the only ones I got I'm still low risk and therefore they are happy for me to have a HB if that's what I want to do. Still thinking about that one althought the idea of a fridge full of good food and all my stuff plus a birthing pool garenteed is sounding increasingly good. Plus I know they can't close my house! :)

neenewps · 06/05/2011 15:28

Finally managing to post... I have been reading and keeping up to date with everyone's movements so I know there have been no more births.. yet :)

8RD thanks for the link for the freezer food. I have made a cottage pie mix and am going to start making more next week.

curioselle Hope you see this. I have ordered the Glide from M&P which is identical to the Sola but comes with everything. I managed to get it for £399 all in and then the other week they had a sale on so I called them up and asked them to reduce the price down to the sale price which they did. Only thing with it, it you can only have it in the one colour which is red & black. But it really is the same system and we also compared it side by side in an independant pram shop and it is so very similar to the iCandy Cherry which is almost double the price. I really read up on it and it has good reviews as far as I can see. Ours arrives in 2 weeks :o

joanne I hope you find some energy from somewhere. I think the idea of taking some sick leave is a good one too.

nurse hope the visit went well with the MW.

kara I hope that the supervisor comes back and says yes to your homebirth.

moog very exciting to take delivery of the pram. Have you set it up and pushed it around with a teddy in it

NurseSunshine · 06/05/2011 15:50

I hope the supervisor is a sensible type Kara who will look at all the facts rather than just looking blindly at tick box forms and saying no. I'm sure, as long as you are healthy, you should be fine, especially as you have already had a normal birth :)

Joanne I'm another who's naughtily promoting pulling a sickie! You could always have "a stomach bug" or something, not pg related but not something you could come in with. I bet you'd find a couple of days of really resting and doing nothing would do wonders for your energy levels

Moog72 · 06/05/2011 15:54

neenewps - I have one of DD's dolls in it! Blush

neenewps · 06/05/2011 15:59

Brilliant moog

Just want to share with you all my favourite part of my NCT course so far... putting the TENs machine on my DH's arm and then laughing till I nearly wet myself at the involuntary spasms in his hand and fingers... am I really old enough to bring a child into this world Hmm :o

Joannezipan · 06/05/2011 16:10

neenewps I had a similar moment...one of the guys in my class decided to put it on his face. Apparently it makes your teeth feel really funny... Hmm

I could go sick, but they take the number of sick days you have into account if you get put into a redundancy pool. And that isn't hugly unlikely to happen. They can't do that with pg related sickness so i might just tell the truth. BUT I already had wednesday off sick :( I think i'm just going to have to suck it up for a couple of weeks TBH. Boooo!

neenewps · 06/05/2011 16:14

I would have loved to have put it on his face but he wouldn't have let me. Were his lips in spasm.... I really find it hilarious. I'm sat here laughing on my birthing ball.....

Jer79 · 06/05/2011 16:19

Hi,
Just got told I'm being transferred to consultant care as the baby is big but all the ogtt glucose tests keep coming back normal. They aren't sure why she's so big. Anyone with any big baby experience? Would quite like to discuss an elcs if she grows really big by 38 weeks.

Good to hear the freezers are filling up. Someone asked me today when I was due and I said 'oh, not til June'. Was very shocked when they said 'oh so next month then.' Crazy lady, doesn't she know it's AGES away.

'Crazy lady, doesn't she know it's AGES away.'

Damn straight we have ages to go!!

Joannezipan · 06/05/2011 19:03

Some complete turd has driven into the back of my car while I was at work and cacked up the back end! This is the second time the back end of my car has been destroyed...still at least I wasn't in it this time. No note of course. Gits! Angry Anyone know if i'll loose my no claims even though it wasn't my fault?

sasamaxx · 06/05/2011 21:04

Oh that is so rubbish Joannezipan Sad
Sadly, you will lose your no claims as they have to class it as a 'fault' claim since you don't have the details of whoever did it.
You're probably better just paying for the repair yourself if you can, unless your no claims bonus is protected.

36 weeks today Grin

motherofsnortpigs · 06/05/2011 21:05

Joannezipan That sucks. I don't know about the no claims thingy - I just know that if that happened to me, my car is worth about £3.50 so it would automatically be an insurance write-off, thus I continue to drive a cacked up car until it really, really does stop working. Ooh, just a thought. If the car is out of action, could you 'work from home' for a few days next week?

Sorry sasa I forgot to say that the 'elephant snot' is probably normal, but that if it's green there is a chance it's infected (like someone else more helpfully pointed out)

Go Kara - I'm with you all the way on the HB. I'm now distracted by the homebirth website :) You choose where to give birth. My very, very open-minded mw has to run things by the supervisor of midwives quite often and it is usually no more than a formality. What are they going to do? Kidnap you during your labour and take you to the hospital?

jer don't panic about the size of your baby too much. The scans have a high degree (I think about +/-20%) of inaccuracy. So a big baby may not be a totally gigantic baby. I have found consultant care at the JR to be very good, but you may want to actually speak to the consultant rather than one of his/her registrars... I hope the discussions are fruitful.

lisa can't wait for you to join us at Little Fishes! Only had DS with me on Tues so we didn't make a starfish. If you want to leave your DD with me while you go and have a chat with the mw, that is absolutely no problem at all. PM/text me.

jasmine are the antibiotics working yet?

Yes, DH is a complete martyr, doing everything and falling into bed exhausted at about midnight every night. He even commented that he is losing weight because of it - no wonder I was, trying to run around after our whole family and hatch Snortpig4 - we have yet to decide whether it is the running about per se or the inability to eat because of the running about. Further investigations are required...

motherofsnortpigs · 06/05/2011 21:07

x-post sasa - See, you know about stuff and how to be helpful, and I just don't :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 06/05/2011 21:09

Joanne - bugger Sad any witnesses? What about CCTV?
At least you weren't in it. You'll need to check your policy as some insurers allow a certain amount of claims in a certain time period, depending on how long a NCB you have. But if there is any chance of indentifying the culprit then all the better.

MrsNoggin · 06/05/2011 21:13

Can I join you ladies? I'm sure I joined you a few months ago, but I have a terrible habit of becoming annoyed with my computer and disappearing for weeks on end...

motherofsnortpigs · 06/05/2011 21:50

You are very welcome MrsNoggin - pull up your birthing ball and I'll pass round the bananas and cream :)

knackered76 · 07/05/2011 08:18

Morning all!

Joannezipan Rubbish for you Sad, last thing you need to have to deal with extra things that are a pain in the arse.

Kara You strike me as the kind of girl who knows what she wants and will damn well get it Grin. They can't deny you a hb and hopefully with the mw on your side the fight won't be quite as hard. A friend had 2 hb's and had an awful time getting people to 'let' her but she managed it in the end!

neenewps Why have I never thought of that?!?!?! As soon as I get mine through the post (once I've had it checked that Bob is head down) I'm going to put it on dh . . .. maybe I'll do it one morning while he's asleep and attach it to his face Grin. Oh and it helps to have a distinct lack of 'adultness' when you have children, especially when you have to play with them at being a dragon/knight/teapot!

Jer I had a growth scan the other week, think I was 33wks, and was told that the baby has a massive head . . . off the scale massive head! No-one seemed that worried though. What do they define as big? My ds was 9lb 5.5 oz and I'm only 5'2", the only time it was mentioned that he was big was when he came out! Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate, try not to let the consultant push you into anything. If it's any consolation,, DS was much easier to get out then DD and he was a pound heavier!

Happy weekend all of you!

knackered76 · 07/05/2011 08:18

Sorry forgot to say welcome MrsNoggin!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/05/2011 09:13

Thanks Knackered Smile

And welcome MrsNoggins!!

jasmine51 · 07/05/2011 09:58

welcome

Jer have you gone SilverStar or normal consultant care...if so which one? I'm still half way between the 2 with my notes still saying Silver Star patient but if nothing else goes wrong I should be with Rebecca Black - shes lovely, really caught me out by being more excited about me getting to 34 wks than I was!

Mother my abs are certainly working...feeling chipper now, available for 'feed up Mother' cake session any time.

DH has started frantic nesting! He tends to get more hormonal than I do anyway but yesterday he went completely mad cleaning and tidying and unfortunately insisting I joined in too. Today he's making noises about cleaning kitchen shelves so I'm hiding in the office and saying the door is jammed.

Is anyone else mesmerised by the rain today?...havent seen any for so long I cant stop staring at the garden..or is that just an excuse not to be doing anything productive?
