Thank you!

Don't have a birthing ball this time... Hmm, more shopping Grin.

Joannezipan · 07/05/2011 10:11

Jer and Knackered I was told at my last growth scan that the baby's head looked big, but not to worry about it as head measurement is very dependent on position during the scan and that they only get concerned if it has measured big on more than one occasion.

Welcome MrsNoggins!

By the way ladies 3..2..1...clench.....hold...release....

nicki1978 · 07/05/2011 14:19

Hello, well only 4 weeks left to work and 6 weeks to EDD and we are soooo excited; although this excitement has been dampened somewhat at the passing of a very dear and close auntie of mine, she was like a second mum to me and my sisters and it's left a big hole, particularly at family get togethers. I just wished she'd had chance to meet baby Henry as she was soooo looking forward to meeting him and was just as excited as we were are about our first child. But, I know she'll always be with us and looking after us still.

My mw told me she thought I might be growing big and went to my growth scan and it turns out that baby is about 4.5-5lb and I have a maximum vertical pool measuring 8.4cm pool of liquor, which I was told explains why I seem to be big, it's all water Grin. I told her as long as he fits when he's ready to make an appearance that's fine other than that he'll have to come through sun roof Grinxx

My DH says he's going to invest in scuba diving gear for when my waters go Grin xx

petitech · 07/05/2011 18:39

Hello everyone, have been a bit absent the last couple weeks, finished up at work and just getting myself to and from each day seemed as much as I could manage, how pathetic!
Am now 36 weeks and officially on leave, have presentation scan on Monday to see if the bean has turned around yet or not, failing that ECV clinic on Wed and failing that will be booked in for c-section. Shame as was hoping for a water birth, we'll see.
Was worried that I'd be bored on mat leave before the baby arrives but today have realised how much sorting and hospital bag packing I need to do, plus I'd planned to try and get a hair cut and pedicure in beforehand, tough job :)
Is everyone washing all the baby clothes and blankets beforehand, a couple of my friends seem to have differing opinions.
House is total mess too, really need to get sorted!!!
Have a nice weekend everyone :)

Welcome to MrsNoggin :)

Petitech I am washing everything, no idea whether it's necessary but it is fun and lovely and will make you go all gooey at the sight of your clothes line! All the teeny tiny little things hanging up :) I am aware that the novelty of doing laundry will wear of when I'm having to change her for the 6th time that day after she's puked again!

Joanne that's really shit about your car :( But maybe, as MOSP said, a good excuse to not be able to get to work for a bit?

I actually have everything now and feel as prepared as I can be. Just need to pack hospital bag (keep forgetting) and do a bit more batch cooking for the freezer and then that's it. Can't belive I'll have a baby in 6 weeks (ish) (but she'd better not be late!!) Am really looking forward to meeting this little person who's taken over my life!

sasamaxx · 08/05/2011 10:31

Petitech I tend to wash stuff beforehand too - but as Nurse said, it's more for the fun of washing teeny tiny clothes.

I am so seriously disorganised - I really have to do something about it.
Because our house is on the market (and has been for nearly 2 years), loads of our stuff is in storage including ALL of the baby stuff. I have literally nothing in the house (apart from slings) so need to get a full day to get down to the storage and look out the tiny nappies, tiny clothes, bedside cot and pram (I have a pushchair here for DD but like the big pram at the start).
I also haven't packed a bag for the hospital, or bags for the kids to stay overnight while I'm in hospital. I still haven't worked out exactly where the kids are staying either.
Am I in denial, I wonder?
Think I'm just complacent as it's unlikely that I will go over the next couple of weeks - anyway, I have a Wiggles concert on the 24th May and don't want to miss it Grin

PerpetualProvocateur · 08/05/2011 11:45

Good morning ladies, mrswantstobeamum here with a new name. Once again I?ve been rubbish about keeping up, but this will be my last week at work, so I?ll have time to be a proper regular on here once I start ML next week.

I?m 34+2 today, and seem to have more pregnancy-related aches and pains on a daily basis. I finally started my NCT classes last week, which I love, and I?ve been seriously reconsidering trying a homebirth. I was originally leaning towards a homebirth, but am a bit nervous as this is DC#1, so had more recently been planning to try for a natural waterbirth in hospital in the MLU. The NCT classes are helping to build my confidence about it, though, and the teacher pointed out that it?s easy to switch from planning a homebirth to going to hospital, but not easy to do the opposite. I talked to my MW about it, and as everything is progressing normally, there is nothing stopping me if I want to do it. She?s coming round to do a home visit at 36 weeks, so everything will be set. I just need to make arrangements to hire a birthing pool. For Confessions, Joanne, and anyone else considering a homebirth, you may want to check out this site, which I?ve found helpful: www.homebirth.org.uk/

Other than that, DH and I have been busy getting the house ready for the baby. We?ve got the office stuff cleared out of the nursery and have decorated. The nursery furniture will be delivered tomorrow, and then I?ll be able to start properly organising everything.

Sorry for those who are having problems with DPs, ex-DPs and DCs right now. It?s a difficult enough time as it is without them adding to it! Also sorry to those suffering from SPD, carpal tunnel, pre-eclampsia, and anything else that is making things more difficult.

Moomin, congrats on bringing Florence home! It doesn?t sound easy, but you seem to be coping quite well with everything. Hope you manage to get more sleep soon!

Jasmine, I?m so sorry to hear about your DH being made redundant. That can?t be easy for him, and it?s definitely a rubbish time financially for you. But I agree that you should try to see the silver lining, such as the fact that he?ll be around more whilst your LO is small.

Kara, congrats on starting ML! Sorry about the potential problems with your homebirth. I hope they come around and you are able to proceed as you wanted to.

NMH, I?m also Shock and Angry at your neighbours!

Barbie, and Knackered good luck finishing your exams and assignments! Just think how sweet ML will seem afterwards.

Welcome, MrsNoggin!

petitech · 08/05/2011 17:29

It sounds as if we're all feeling a bit like we ought to be bustling round sorting things... I've been pacing around the house this morning looking at what else I can store, hide, tidy away, there's two cupboards in the kitchen I keep opening, looking at and sighing and shutting again, just can't face sorting them out! Our house had been on the market too sasa but we took it off to avoid feeling in limbo whilst baby arrives etc and we're pretty much running out of places to store stuff. It's only a 2 bed terraced (although a very lovely one :)) and the loft isn't properly boarded so we have limited options.
At this rate my hospital bag is gonna be huuuuuuuuuge!

Joannezipan · 08/05/2011 17:58

petitech That sounds a lot like my house! I find you can always fit one more thing in under the stairs.

Something odd has happened today...I have an urge to clean the inside of all my radiators and all the skirting boards. I think the nesting instinct might be kicking in! Woo! :)

takethatlady · 08/05/2011 18:31

Nice new name perpetual :) I might have to change mine soon as I was outed at my first NCT class last week! One of the ladies said 'Are you on Mumsnet? Because I saw a lady from Cambridge on there who was trying to go to see Take That' - I was too Shock to deny it, so though I don't know who she is she knows who I am! Smile

I just hope she wasn't on the only thread on MN I've ever got into an argument on. I really think internet arguments are completely pointless and am a bit Blush at having got into one a few months ago. Wouldn't want anyone in RL knowing about it!

Sorry girls, I've got really behind on the thread and need to start again. Sorry if this is a me me me post. Enjoyed my first NCT class much more than I thought I would and am actually looking forward to the rest now. Went in in a bit of a bad mood because I was having a crazy time at work and DH got in really late after a hell of a journey home and we didn't have time to eat properly, so we were both a bit frazzled when we got there, and then suddenly I felt shy. That was weird because I haven't felt properly shy for a good few years, and it took me a bit of time to settle in. But everybody seemed really lovely and friendly so I'm looking forward to being my normal self next week, even though I'll have just got back from Aberdeen where I'm going to give a paper ...

Had one of my worst days at work ever on Friday. I organised a conference and it was hectic sorting it all out and then one of the participants started shouting at the other participants and at me, derailing the conversation at every opportunity, and then revealing that he'd taped the entire day without anybody's consent! He's refused to delete the tape, too, so now I've got to try and sort it all out. Angry

2 weeks left til maternity leave though! Whoop whoop! 33 weeks pregnant today. provocateur I'm with you on the increasing aches and pains. Today and yesterday have been the first two days I've actually struggled with my bump. I can't sit up from lying down - I just have to roll Grin

takethatlady · 08/05/2011 18:34

Whoops joanne and petitech I didn't see your posts there. Ours is tiny 2 bed terrace too, though we're lucky to have a brick outhouse (though it needs a new roof before the baby is born so we can actually properly use it). We only have a 5 foot by 5'4" kitchen, which is more annoying than you can imagine. Our loft isn't properly boarded either but we've put down some temporary boards and the wooden slats of a old futon and made do ... We just have to walk on the beams. Don't know if you could do the same?

Joannezipan · 08/05/2011 19:20

ttl I'm in Cambridge too Shock...but I don't think I'm in your NCT Class as I've done 2 weeks already. Small world :o

takethatlady · 08/05/2011 19:26

Nice to know other people are here too joannezipan! Mine are in the Methodist Church on Castle Street, but I'm the furthest ahead in terms of due dates (26th June) at the class. I am so glad I did them - pretty sure I'm going to feel much more clued up by the end than I do now!

MrsNoggin · 08/05/2011 20:08

Thanks for my lovely friendly welcome!

I'm a bit jealous takethatlady - I've never been outed. I feel a little neglected. But then hardly anyone I know has even heard of Mumsnet! (Or perhaps they just lie to avoid outing themselves. Hmmm...) Did you have a tiny sneaking feeling of pride? I'd be very chuffed that someone had read my posts and taken the time to work out who I am.

We too have very little storage space. My cupboard under the stairs is lovely and tidy though, nice and neat and organised. People who see it always comment on it and I smile and nod graciously Grin, silently glad they haven't seen the 'study' upstairs. Seriously, the path from the door to the desk has walls of stuff as tall as me!

Milliemuffin · 08/05/2011 21:58

Hi ladies, sorry to be a downer but I've had a crap day and I can't tell anyone in RL and DP has p'd me off so much I'm just gonna go to bed. I know I'm tired but he's just been so short tempered this weekend. I'm really feeling down tonight, hope I'm more positive tomorrow cos tonight I just feel like I've stopped caring about being happy. The DC's are getting more difficult each week and DP forgets how young they are and he gets stressed. Just really want something good to happen and I know baby being born will be good but I'm worried about how DD is going to be as she's only 17 months and DS is already playing up as DD is turning into a little girl and not a baby anymore. Life feels really hard already and baby isn't even here yet :( can't talk to DP cos he doesn't do thinking/worrying. Sorry, just need to tell someone. Night ladies xx

Thornykate · 08/05/2011 22:32

Jasmine are you feeling any better yet? T'was me asking about London hospitals just in case I went into labour early whilst in London this weekend but thankfully LO stayed put as it would have been a logistial nightmare.

If you or any other lovely Jue in June ladies are looking for somewhere to have private GBS test I ordered my kit from Medisave it was no payment to have kit delivered then send payment with the swabs (£32) the test is done by The Drs Laboratory which are well known in private health care.

MOSP glad you are feeling rested & LO has also stayed put, carry on with the cake & relaxation anyway though!

Moog what were the affirmations that you were given at your birth prep class? I am always open to new ideas.

CMH1st I am the same re getting jobs done; I either 'rush' (waddle briskly) around & then am shattered or have no energy to do anything I cant find happy medium. Hope the wedding went well this wk end.

NMH hope that things are turning a corner now with the neighbour & glad scan went well :)

Hi GoodV & glad you have made it to 37 weeks!

Curious have you got the pram situation sorted? Hope so. Am sure you will be happy with your new choice when it arrives.

sasa I agree with the others, as a rule of thumb anything green should be checked out just in case for your own peace of mind. That physio sounded a bit crap, its so frustrating to make the effort to go to an appointment when they dont seem to know what they are doing. Re the rasberry leaf caps I have been v haphazard with them, I only started them last wk due to the contractions I had at 35 wks so have had full dose somedays & only a couple other days, is that wrong? When I read your post I remembered building them up on previous pg's but on the bottle from Holland & Barret it just said take 6 a day? whoops!

TTL & SSD I too spend all night turning from side to side as it hurts too much to stay in 1 position but moving hurts too. It is a PITA as I havent been waking up to wee (I mean I havent needed to go in the night not that I wet the bed!) but seem to wake up with the pain a lot....TTL have you worked out who the NCT MNer is yet?! And conference guy sounds like a loon!

8RD & GV Glad you have found chiropractor/ accupuncturists who can help. I should have looked into this earlier in pg but thankfully it hasnt got to a debilitating stage so I have got used to it. It helps that my DCs are older so can help themselves a lot too.

Just to add my 2p into the nursery chat; I agree that the vibes from the staff are the most important thing. Another thing to be mindful of is...prepare yourself for this.... consider if you are having more children after this one Grin! Because if you are then you may want to keep 1st DC in nursery while you are on mat leave or you may change jobs etc & it is better to think longer term so that you dont have to move nurserys. I had a great nursery place for DS3 that was attached to a breakfast/ after school & holiday club attended by DS2. It was a blessing to have the continuity of care & to be able to take both kids to the same place. I agree with LisasCat about appointments too, its good to be able to use the nursery if you need a break. As I dont have family help with the kids I have in the past booked a day off work & left DC in nursery so that I can go to hairdressers or Dr's if needed.

Nurse I am forgetful at the best of times & am worse in pg too, but good luck for Thursday will keep my fingers Xed for you :) Re batch cooking I find curries work well & I know it is summer but soups do too. Says me who has developed cooking allergy as food smells still make me feel queasy!

Crumble your carpal tunnel sounds v painful; good idea not to be handling the kettle etc. Hope GP can reassure you that all is well bump-wise too.

knackered I bet the photos turn out beautifully & its good to hear that you are recovering too.

Fantastic news about the scan CEP am so pleased for you :)

Jer have the 'guesstimated' babys size if so what was it? Sorry have never had a v big baby but largest DS i have had was 9lb 2 although I am tall-ish at 5'7.5" so he wasnt TOO big for my frame. Do larger babies run in your family?

Still hoping you get your HB Kara it sounds like your MW agrees with you too.

Joanne sorry to hear about your car; I 2nd MOSP's suggestion that you need time off to sort out car if this is possible ;)

hello & welcome mrsNoggin !

Sorry to hear about the loss of your aunt Nikki :( Do take care.

petitech I wash baby stuff too, partly as I wonder how clean the factory is where they make & package the clothes, partly cos the baby clothes are sooo cute on the washing line & partly as I want the baby to be in things that smell like home ie our clothes...I know that sounds crazy but it is logical to my hormone addled brain!

Hi PP either of your plans for the birth sound like they will be lovely. I was expecting MLU birth but the unit wont be opening. I was considering changing to another trust who have a MLU but I have just had a positive GBS test back so I'm not sure if I will have IV anti-b's during labour now. Does anyone know if that rules out MLU or not?

Sending virtual hug to you Millie, hope you get a good nights sleep & feel better in the morning. The family will find their own way to settle around the new LO when the time comes. I had a bad night on Thurs where I was fed up with my lot too; I am not invalidating how you feel but I know in my case pg hormones keep coming up & making a pissed off situation feel a thousand times worse x

Dont want to go to bed yet, I'm not ready for a Monday yet :(

jasmine51 · 09/05/2011 08:03

Millie sorry you are feeling down. I second Thorny - you might find its the hormones and you suddenly feel better - if not try some gentle outdoors exercise.

Thorny yes I'm feeling alot better thanks - boob no longer painful and I have some energy back. I have sent off for a GBS test from Mumstuff I think - as you say, the kit doesnt cost anything its the testing that costs a bit.

My task for the day is to sort out an ebay transaction that has gone a bit wrong for something I am selling. Despite specifying Paypal only and article would be sent by 7 day parcel post the stupid buyer says they cant use Paypal and needs the item by Friday. They want my bank details to transfer money and will send a courier but I'm such a suspicious person I dont want to do this and would rather bin the buyer - what do others think?

Is anyone else drinking gallons of water atm? I just cant seem to drink enough and although I know I dont have gd I'm worried that all the water seems to be going to bump which has gone mahoosive. Should I be worried?

Joannezipan · 09/05/2011 08:27

Morning everyone, lovely and sunny here, just in time for work! Those who said I should take time off because of the car...good thinking, but unfortunately I walk to work, it used to take 15 mins, now i'm up to nearly half an hour!

Jas If you specified the terms in the original ebay ad you can re-list it for free if the buyer won't meet them I think. Or you can offer it to the next highest bidder. I would ditch them if they can't meet the original terms of sale...and I would NEVER give anyone I didn't know my bank details online! Also if you use a courier they will have your RL address too. Very suspicious IMO.

Right better head off to the hell hole I call work...But I'm off to a meeting tomorrow so at least I can escape the most annoying of the bosses for half a day - hooray! Hope everyone has a good day only 13 more work days to go!

takethatlady · 09/05/2011 09:22

jasmine I agree with joannezipan. Somebody tried to scam me on there last year - I sold somebody my piano and then he started saying he would pay me £400 more for it than he had bid but that I had to wire some money to him first through Western Union, etc ... ridiculous. Check with Ebay, but if somebody doesn't want to stick to your ts and cs I think you should just say to them that they either pay the way specified in your ad or you'll drop them. They're obligated to buy now, aren't they? That should mean you have the upper hand?

millie how are you feeling this morning? Better I hope. xxx

Thornykate · 09/05/2011 09:26

Good luck at work Joanne

Jasmine I agree with Joanne about the eBay, if necessary get the final value credit & relist or sell it to 2nd highest bidder it sounds a bit odd to me too.

Just trying to get through to the CMW re this GBS result but am multi tasking & doing a bit of nesting too.. Think it's going to be doors, Walls & skirting boards today if I get through the normal cleaning & laundry mountain.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/05/2011 09:33

Jas - I agree with Joanne. They accepted your T&C when they placed the bid so the onus is on them to pay by the specified method. Tell them no, open a non paying bidder dispute and then offer to the next highest bidder. If you open a non-paying bidder dispute you can relist for free. Or you can ask them for a mutual withdrawal.

Millie - sorry you are feeling so down, I hope your DP will be more supportive.

TTL - Shock at the meeting! How awful, were all the participants employees at your company, because if they are then you should refer to HR as what that participant did was illegal if he had not sort permission to record the meeting. Not sure how you would procede if a non employee, but HR should be able to advise you. Hope you are having a better day today.

Nikki - so sorry for the loss of your aunt, how are you today?

Petitech - when I had DS I had 2 huge bags packed Blush

Had my first noticeable BH contractions, felt like someone was pulling at the top of my uterus, and it was very uncomfortable. Made me lose my breath!
