Hello everybody!!!
I'm a mum
!
We moved house on Tuesday 12th April, had a school inspection on the Wednesday and I went along to my routine scan on the Thursday afternoon.
Just relaxing whilst they scanned me and then the doctor said 'it doesn't look like twin 2 (the smaller one has grown) so we need to deliver soon. I was thinking a week or so. Then he came back in the room and said tomorrow!?! Then he said it is very busy here tomorrow so we are going to deliver tonight!!?! My mouth was wide open with shock and I started to cry because I felt totally unprepared.
They sent me up to the maternity ward and then said that because the twins were going to be born at 32+5 weeks they would go into special care and because my hospital had no cots I would need to go to nearby Wigan to have them by c-section. They took me over in an ambulance and my DH and mum followed.
At 8.10pm I gave birth to Naomi Elizabeth who weighed 3lbs 9oz and at 8.13pm I gave birth to Ciara Rose who weighed 2lb 12oz (Ciara pronounced Keira like Knightley).
I got to have a 2 second peek and then they were both taken off to intensive care and because I had had an epidural I was too ill to visit them until the next morning (the longest/scariest night of my life). Naomi needed some help with breathing, they were both in incubators, on drips and covered in wires.
But they are both doing really well now- most of the horrible wires have gone. I can visit anytime 24/7 (and ring if I'm not there), change their nappies, give them a cuddle and try them at the breast. I've been expressing milk to feed them from the start and luckily I've had no problems (infact I've got a reputation at the hospital for producing so much milk
) so they have been able to be fed on my milk (which I'm really pleased about). They are in special care now (rather than intensive) and putting on weight ready to come home. They don't give you a date but probably when they are full term (so another 4 weeks or so). The nurses in the hospital do such an fantastic job and I can never be grateful enough for what they have done.
It's been hard but so so amazing!!!
