Hi all, hope everyone is well? :)

mosp hope you are taking it easy still & no more contractions? I can't help but wonder why mine started in the 1st place as I have never had that before with the others? The MWs & Dr told me I need to slow down & take it easy but TBH if I do much less I will be going backwards! I did read my patient held notes for clues but it just said contracting then stopped. Answers on a postcard pls....

8RD my mum says daft stuff too so you have my sympathies. Last pg (my 3rd) she told me how 3rd births are the most traumatic & dangerous. Last week she told me how I still might end up 'huge' as I have over a month left & then asked me if I thought that my DS1's mental health problems (which he has unfortunately struggled with for a few years but is thankfully out of hosp now) were due to me having another baby Hmm. "Errm no mum I don't actually think my uterus is so powerful to cause such issues" ...well thats what I should have said but sometimes it's not worth the effort! DP came downstairs at that point & had such a dismissive look on his face that she soon changed the subject thank goodness; really glad I haven't inherited my mothers tact genes. Am sure you haven't either 8RD!

Sasa my MW mistook baby's bum for her head last time too, I know I am no expert but it doesn't instill me with confidence!

Petitech , knackered & Joannezipan I think I am still in the breech posse but I don't know if she's actually a bit sideways now? i have 36wk MW appt on Thurs so will find out then.... Envy at Imogen; I LOVE that name but DP & the boys don't so I can't have it despite it being top of my list since before I was even pg! Seriously though it is such a lovely choice.

Curious I got a yoga ball from TK maxx pretty cheap a few yrs ago, sometimes the supermarkets have them on offer too.

Daisy glad the powers that be have seen sense over the exam date that must be a huge relief for you.

supersunny & moog I have a feeling I will end up alone in labour, I know a couple of friends would like to be there if DP cant get here in time but TBH I don't like having my hand held or back rubbed so will be OK alone I think, I tend to just zone out. What you said about 35 weeks sounds pretty fair to me.

crumble I hope that your mum can be around as much as poss for you & baby this time, it is lovely to hear when people make huge life changes; as much for them as the people around them. Great timing too when a new baby is coming :)

Beesok & cep congratulations that is wonderful news from you both Grin

TTL hope you are feeling better soon & not paying attention to Dr google.

Goodvibrations not surprised you are feeling a bit edgy, here's to the next couple of weeks passing uneventfully for you.

Kara waaay heeey on getting your home birth I bet it will be lovely & calm & peaceful.

Crazy thank goodness the op went well & you can both relax & look forward to baby!

jasmine hope your DH cheers up soon, I know that at the moment I feel like there is only room for one bad mood in our house & I feel entitled to have it myself whenever the need takes me.... men can be so moody sometimes though & they don't even have the wild hormone changes to deal with? Glad your work is completed now though it must be a relief.

Well I think I have just about caught up now! Don't know why I am not tired tonight, Think I am in shock from how much I spent by accident on baby outfits today. Really badly underestimated what I had spent until the total rang up at the till which isn't like me; I think I got overexcited by the sheer cuteness of the clothing Blush.

Have also ordered pram & half packed hospital bag, washed baby sheets & made up the crib. DP sprang into action after the hospital trip the other night & has got the car seat washed & ready (one of the few things we had left from DS3) & put up the sweetpeace swinging rocker thingy.

So after Dr Who last night, I'm now worried that this baby is going to turn up on a Friday or Saturday and make me miss an episode. How can I make sure that she comes out on a Sunday, leaving me with plenty of time to recuperate before the following week's episode?

Fortunately DD's friend called round for her ten minutes in, so they went outside to play on the trampoline. Otherwise we may have had a problem in our happy family unit. I know she's only 4, and it was quite confusing to follow, even for an adult, but surely by now she's learnt the rule - ask mummy all the questions you like when it's a repeat on BBC Three, but when it's the first showing, we all keep shtum for 45 minutes. Honestly, some children!!!!!!! (That said, even DP broke the rule to ask if Rory was a human or robot now, but at least he waited for a gap in dialogue.)

sasamaxx · 24/04/2011 09:27

Lisascat don't worry about Dr Who - it is a great accompaniment for labour [buwink]
I was watching it while in labour with DD - about 2-3 hours before she was actually born and I was off my head on gas&air. In between contractions, I was desperately trying to follow the story in my drug-induced state and was getting more and more confused. Carol Jackson (Eastenders) was in it and seemed to be assuming the personality of some kind of monster and her voice kept changing and it was the freakiest thing EVER, under the circumstances. I got soooooo confused and kept demanding DH and the midwife to explain what was happening. The mw obviously thought it wasn't good for my sanity, though, and switched it off LOL [bugrin]

NurseSunshine · 24/04/2011 13:32

Happy easter everybody [busmile]

motherofsnortpigs · 24/04/2011 15:56

lol lisa no discussing Dr Who plots, though, as I am an iplayer girl and am always at least a few days behind. thorny my threatened pre-term labour is probably due to being under-nourished. I am being practically force fed by DH and it is horrid. On the plus side, I have been advised to stay off my feet. DH was alarmed at how I managed 10 hours sleep on Friday night (only about 7 loo breaks), got up for breakfast, then went back to bed for 3 hours. He is talking about asking my mum to come and stay to look after us all. The worst bit is being on a bonking ban. It is, therefore, pretty much the only thing I can think about... Hang on in there GoodVibrations birthing without being strapped up would be perfect :) 8rd I would pay MUCH more than £30 to avoid a canula. kara hurray for homebirth. I hope it works out for you. crazy yup, 6 weeks on Tues. We are due date buddies. Well, back to doing nothing [busmile]

Joannezipan · 24/04/2011 18:45

Hello y'all...Easter is good! I've been having a lovely time with the parents and DH. Today we went for a walk in the botanic gardens and saw 8 very fluffy cute ducklings with no fear climb up a waterfall! Then we came home and I ate too much chocolate...I now feel sick. Oh well. Right this is a flying visit...so off I go. Hope you are all having a lovely holiday weekend. [bugrin]

petitech · 24/04/2011 20:08

Happy Easter everyone, we had a nice day in the sunshine helping my 2 yr old nephew to hunt for Easter eggs in my Mum's garden.... after all the excitement had to come home for an afternoon nap. Feeling increasingly shattered with just 5+ weeks to go still! Have mw appt week on Tues to assess which is bum and which is head before potential presentation scan. Baby is doing lots of crazy movements, feels like body rolls, hopefully getting ready for exit. 2 more weeks at work wooohoooo then have a couple weeks of aqua natal and baby and bump coffee mornings planned :)

8rubberduckies · 24/04/2011 20:40

Happy Easter all! I have eaten too much chocolate and am feeling a bit sick Confused... dp gone out so having a lovely night catching up on the thread and watching whatever I want on telly.

Kara good news on the homebirth front. MOSP I can only dream of a bonking ban... have completely lost my mojo and DP has turned into Benny Hill Grin

Thornykate Were our Mums separated at birth?

Lisascat your deconstruction of Ikea hell made me giggle - it reminded me of when I collapsed on a sofa there in tears when I was heavily pregnant with ds, wailing "I want to diiiiiie" so loudly pasers-by were stopping and staring, much to my DPs embarassment. Moi, a drama queen? Grin

BPrincess · 24/04/2011 22:02

Rubberduckies Ikea makes me feel like that even when NOT pregnant! DP suggested we look there for a baby changing 'station' earlier today. I told him in no uncertain terms that he could go if he liked, but I would be staying put, with a cold glass of juice and a book in the garden.

Glad everyone's been having a good Easter break.

Talking of Dr Who - DP is watching it right now, on some kind of catch-up, linked in to his PSP - I lost track of the plot about 10 minutes ago...

I am now officially 35 Weeks! And the first of my NCT group had her baby last week, I have two days left in the office and then I'm on maternity leave. So many significant days, it seems. I was freaking out for a while about the reality of the situation but now I'm excited, as is DP. Both really looking forward to meeting our little girl.

Think about it - this time next year we'll have been hiding easter eggs, decorating eggs, getting in all kinds of fluffy toys...! Eeek!

LisasCat · 25/04/2011 07:51

Mother I promise no spoilers, but in case you've not watched it yet, I recommend not having any snort pigs around when you do, unless they stay reeeeeally quiet. This is one that requires concentration.

We did an easter egg hunt yesterday, and I forgot the cardinal rule....count the eggs before you hide them! I hid them across all 3 gardens, while one of the neighbours took all the children for a walk, and almost as soon as I hid the last one, I realised my mistake. I was pretty sure they found them all, until one of the children found another late in the afternoon (already a bit of a soggy mess), so now I'm wondering what sort of globs they might still stumble across over the coming weeks/months.

jasmine51 · 25/04/2011 09:40

Question - nighties for newborns - John Lewis sell ones with elasticated bottoms which seem like a good idea to cut down on night time changing time....good idea or not?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 25/04/2011 10:09

jasmine I have a couple of new born nighties. I only used nighties for a couple of days with DS while I was in the maternity hospital, then couldn't find any in the shops. So when I saw some on sale at Mothercare (months and months ago [bublush] i grabbed them. They were really good when he was asleep and I didn't want to disturb him to much.

I can happily say I haven't eaten to much chocolate (yet). Probably because I've been stealing chocolate all week (from our easter stash, not the shop!) so my consumption has been spread out. [bublush][bugrin] I am thinking I've unpacked the kitchen enough to belatedly make another batch of hot crossless buns today though, so watch this space for a very rolly polly Confesstions later [bugrin] (LO isn't called Currant Bun for nothing you see [buwink])

I have had some sad news today though. A good friend has lost her baby at 20 weeks due to a heart defect. It's news like that makes me glad I don't post lots of details of my pregnancy all over fb. It really wouldn't take much for me to put my foot in it.

sasamaxx · 25/04/2011 10:45

That's so sad about your friend Confessions
We're about to head off in the caravan - hopefully we will find a friendly fellow-caravanner to help DH put up the awning as I'm not doing it.
Have a lovely couple of days everyone Grin

Joannezipan · 25/04/2011 12:01

confessions that is sad news about your friend.

Sasa have a good break.

Jasmine I got one of those nighties off ebay to have a look at and it seems like a really good idea. I might keep an eye out for a couple more. Mind you if the babbit takes after it's dad it will be heated by an internal nuclear reactor anyway and be too hot in anything but a nappy!

My Parents have just gone, it was good to see them for the weekend. I have eaten far too much though. I'm going to have prawns and avocado for lunch to try and be a bit healthy!

I did manage to scare myself in the night last night. I woke up and convinced myself the baby wasn't moving...DH listened intently to my bump though and could hear the heartbeat...I did make him take my pulse at the same time though so he could be sure it wasn't mine. It has been wiggling ever since though. I think the type of movement is harder to spot as there is less space in there. It's more like a hand of a foot moving across the inside of my bump than a jab or a kick now. There is still the odd big wiggle though. Right maybe it's time for a bit of book in the garden time. Have a lovely day everyone! [bugrin]

tinyk · 25/04/2011 12:12

Have just read the bit about nighties! Have been looking for some but other than plain white boring ones at JL haven't been able to find any. Tried an Amazon vendor, but now they say they can't get them. Anyone have any joy finding some in prints at an affordable price?

NurseSunshine · 25/04/2011 15:56

So sorry about your friend confessions

Great news about the homebirth Kara :D Are you having a pool?

Have a lovely, relaxing holiday sasa :)

Dunno how you feel about ebay Jasmine but there's plenty of nighties here

I had my first Braxton Hicks today, during a driving lesson! Luckily managed NOT to swerve off the road but it was very strange!

NurseSunshine · 25/04/2011 16:11

Oh BTW anyone who's considering breastfeeding but is worried about it please check out this book. It's great!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/04/2011 16:19

Hello everyone I hope you are all still enjoying the sunshine!

Confessions - I am so Sad for your friend and her DP, how devasting for them.

Nurse - no I am not bothering with a pool, I did look into it but I think it would be too much hassle in our house. I will make use of my bath!

Sasa - have a lovely time at the caravan!

Thorny and Motherofsnortpigs - I hope you two are resting

8rd - if £30 could prevent you from having a canula, I too would consider it money well spent!

Crazy - great news about your DH, hopefully he will be home very soon!

Lisa - we also had an Easter Egg hunt (though with Lindt bunnies rather than eggs) and we did the same thing! We think we found them all Grin

mrswantstobeamum · 25/04/2011 20:31

Hello ladies, hope everyone has had a fantastic long weekend. The weather has been beautiful here, and we managed to fit three barbecues into a four-day weekend - not bad!

I'm 32+3 today, and feeling more whale-like by the day. With this heat, I'm sooo glad that I won't be pregnant all summer. I've been getting some strange occasional pains in the pelvice area whilst standing or walking. They are quite strong - wrenching, really - but only last a second or two and don't happen more than three-four times a day. Has anyone had anything similar?

Also, has everyone started their antenatal classes already? I feel like I'm a bit behind the curve, as we don't start our NCT classes until next week (we'll be done just over two weeks before the EDD).

Lisa, I'm so sorry about your dad. Even if you haven't been close recently, it must be a hard thing to cope with, especially at this point in your pregnancy. You seem to be handling it very well.

Newneeps, sorry about your mum. I hope she gets the care she needs and recovers quickly.

Motherofsnortpigs and thornykate, please do take it easy!

Jasmine, it's great that your DH is home!

Kara, good that everything is going ahead with your plans for a homebirth. Were you able to find any good information about the cord clamping/jaundice issue? I need to look into it more myself, but haven't really had the chance to since the chat with my step-MIL (who is a midwife) who first flagged the issue for me.

takethatlady · 25/04/2011 21:03

Woah ladies I have been away for a few days and I cannot keep up! If I have missed anything like a birth or anything fill me in!

joannezipan can you feel movement all the time then? I only get kicking after I eat a big meal, drink a cold drink, or at about 11pm at night for an hour or so. The odd kick/movement might occur at other times but I can go hours and hours without noticing anything. I didn't know people could hear the heartbeat if they listened though - I'll get DH to give it a go later!

Right, off to read through the thread (and watch Masterchef [bugrin])

Joannezipan · 25/04/2011 21:53

Dragon hee hee hee I rather like him!

TTL I feel movements most hours, sometimes big but often just small squirming movements. My DH likes listening to the bump...just not when i wake him up at 5am to do it [bugrin]

Joannezipan · 25/04/2011 21:54

oh no it didn't work :( I want a dragon emicon

motherofsnortpigs · 25/04/2011 21:55

ttl get DH to use a loo roll tube to listen in....DD2 can often find a heartbeat either just listening or using the Fisher Price stethescope.

kara I'm going for the bath too - that's where I had DS

BPrincess I expect this time next year all the first-time mummies will be wondering if it's ok to give a 10mo chocolate and those with DCs 3 or 4 will be wondering if they should have helped a 10mo remove the foil before they ate the egg and all the wrapping. (Last Christmas, DS was 11 months and ate a bowl of chocolate santas including foil - I was too busy laughing to sort him out)

confessions so sorry about your friend. I hope you manage to find the right words...

I thought I was so organised for school tomorrow when at 8pm DD1 asked, 'Where's my reading journal?' FORTY FIVE minutes later DH found it in the bag where I keep my maternity notes - yup, I'm going bonkers...

Merlion · 26/04/2011 05:34

Motherofsnortpigs was going to say something similar re Easter egg hunts and 10 month olds! DS now thinks the Easter Bunny is like Santa but just brings chocolate Grin.

mrs am with you on the heat - fortunately we at least have aircon here so I do get some respite.

Has anyone bought a baby monitor yet and if so do you have any recommendations? The one we had for DS is on its last legs.
