I need to catch up soon. So here it goes.. I'm sorry once again if I miss out anyones news!!

lisa I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Must have been a real shock finding out the way you did. I also have no contact with my Dad and did try to get back in touch last year when I got married but unfortunately nothing has really come of this. Partly my fault to be honest but I have started to wonder if I should make more effort and just accept that this is how my relationship will always be with my father! I hope you are coping ok with everything and that all goes smoothly for you.

crazy so pleased to hear that you have managed to see your DH. Hope that he is very much on the mend now. I don't know how long a kidney op takes to recover from? I hope that he is home soon with you.

jasmine yayyyy, to your DH being home. I hope you are having a nice reunion with one another and that you managed to get the cot back into it's original packaging (isn't this almost impossible :) )

mother How are you feeling? Hope the LO is staying put for a little while longer yet! Hope you are managing to get some rest although I suspect you are still running around after your other LO's :)

nurse how exciting that your cot and pram have arrived. Have you put the cot up yet? My pram is red too (and black). Can't wait to get it. Am going to hopefully pick it up in a couple of weeks!

sasa Please may I ask a quick question about slings. What is the best sling similar to Baby Bjorn. My husband will be happy with a baby bjorn but won't wear a wrap style sling :o

I have seen some mention of raspberry leaf tea on here so went out and bought some yesterday from H&B. I'm not too sure when to start taking it though? I am 32 weeks next Wednesday? Should I wait a little while longer?

Started my NCT classes last night. Was quite good. I think my DH doesn't know what to make of it just yet!! According to him, men don't feel the need to get into a group and talk about things Hmm I have also bookmarked a few pages for him to read in the What to expect when you are expecting and he seems to have read that so at least he won't be completely shocked! :)

My Mum is really ill and I have spent the last few days stressing about her health particularly last night. I feel really helpless as I live in Scotland and she lives in West Wales... we almost couldn't live further away from each other on the British Isles. The care she is receiving there isn't good at all and she hasn't eaten since Monday. She has a kidney infection and has the chills, temperature, the shakes... she is on antibiotics but these were prescribed over the phone????!!! She hasn't even seen a GP. I don't really know what to do or if there is anything I can do :(

neenewps · 22/04/2011 08:31

X posts cep CONGRATULATIONS. Of course I remember you :)

I'm so happy for you, I really am. Please let us know how your 12 scan goes and keep on stalking us checking in on us.. :)

neenewps · 22/04/2011 08:33

I forgot moomin and Florence. moomin So glad to hear that Florence is doing so well and wow, you are incredible. These past few weeks can't have been easy so big respect to you for keeping everything together.. oh and go and put your feet up woman :o

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/04/2011 08:34

Hi Cep really pleased to hear you are pg again and lots of sticky bean thoughts your way for this one. The bear is just [ bear ] or bubear for bunnyearsbear. He's been put into stealth mode for some reason.

cep · 22/04/2011 08:37

thank you ladies. Grin

neenewps I'm sorry to hear your mums ill. Is there anyone you know nearby that could pop in?

confessions thankyou. [bubear] so darn cute.

sasamaxx · 22/04/2011 08:49

Congratulations Cep that's fab news - I remember you well from the earlier days of the thread. Keep us posted on how you're getting on [busmile]

Neenewps Just heading out but will get you some links later today if that's OK [busmile]

jasmine51 · 22/04/2011 09:08

Hi Cep - fab news, thanks for letting us know. Keep updating us with your scan news.

neenewps sorry to hear about your mum. Is there any way you can speak to her GP or social services? When we were worried about grandad we did this and some decent care was arranged pretty swiftly which was a relief.

So, DH is home and is reasonably non grumpy. Yes he likes the skirting boards! Sorry to hear about those of you who have black or purple ones to paint over, what a nightmare, you have every sympathy from someone who merely had to cope with pale blue ones.

Ok, do I tackle Ikea today or is that a really stoopid idea on a public holiday?

motherofsnortpigs · 22/04/2011 10:33

Ooh hello cep - I said that out loud when I saw your name [bublush] So glad you're expecting again. Off to FIL's for the weekend. Bring on the sunshine!

NurseSunshine · 22/04/2011 10:41

Congratulations cep! Really pleased for you, let us know how your scan goes [busmile]

Sorry about your mum neenewps, is she in hospital? Is there anyone around who can keep an eye on her? Family or neighbours?

neenewps · 22/04/2011 11:51

Thanks ladies. She has a partner who is with her so she isn't alone.

She isn't in hospital but I have a feeling she probably should be. I'm currently sat in my car in a car park crying my eyes out. Sorry - must be stronger at times like these :(

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/04/2011 15:14

Jasmine - Glad DH is home safe and well and you are having lots of fun catching up Smile You are a braver woman than I am to contemplate Ikea on a bank holiday Grin

Jimper - Yey for ML! [busad] for DH going away, how long is away for?

79harmonica [bugrin] at your DH's hatred of skirting boards!

8rd - why should you have to pay for a Strep B test, can't you insist on getting one?? Surely a +ve test would make things a bit more risky regardless of where you give birth?

Almightycitrus - yep I too think I am having a sumo wrestler and am totally with you on the shrinking bladder front [bugrin]

Nurse - Yes having problems sleeping as well, exacerbated by DS waking me in the middle of the night. It is more my hips getting achy though.

Sassamax - yey!! I'll be 34 weeks on Tuesday.

Cep - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Wonderful news, thank you for sharing it with us.

Newneeps - sorry to hear about your mum, it is hard when you are so far away so of course it is upsetting [busad] I hope she is on the mend very soon. Can you talk to her partner about getting her into hospital or at least seeing a GP.

I survived Ikea! Actually surprisingly quiet today and LO has been playing football all afternoon with the meatballs I had for lunch. Got a few cute baby bits n pieces but now I'm knackered, night night

8rubberduckies · 22/04/2011 21:20

I remember you really well cep, so happy for you! Great news! Please come and telll us how your 12-week scan goes.

Kara in my area they won't test you for Strep B, if you have a baby who has caught it before they just treat you like you have got it for every subsequent pregnancy... suppose its a cost-saving measure, but pretty crap nonetheless. I will pay £30 not to have to have a canula though!

Neenewps hope your Mum is improving and is getting some better care, and jasmine hope you're enjoying having dh back!

Crumble I cried today when the dress I ordered for a friend's wedding next week turned up - it is a silvery coloured empire line dress and makes me look like a christmas bauble. Not impressed Hmm

I have had a lovely day in the sunshine at a friend's bbq in the countryside, but almost constant braxton hicks, which has been a nightmare. Not my favourite bit of pregnancy!

Mmmmmm, may crack open some chocolate now. Have a nice evening all x

sasamaxx · 22/04/2011 21:57

Supersunnyday and Neenewps - ok so manly slings - what you are probably looking for is a buckle-carrier so that it's just as easy to put on as a Babybjorn, looks plain and understated but has all the benefits of a proper seated position, support for the spine, more comfort for the wearer, the ability to back carry and that can be used for longer than conventional carriers.

Depending on what you want to spend, there are a few on offer although some are not 'officially' suitable for newborn - but 3 mths.

First up is yamo which comes in at around £75-£80 new but often shows up, used, on for sale boards on babywearing sites for around £40-£45. It is good and manly - it does state from 3 months but it has a really soft body and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be suitable from birth to be honest.

Next is connecta which is around the same price as a basic babybjorn - about £60. And you can get this in plain black. The business is being sold at the moment, though, and they aren't too easy to get a hold of at the moment - but google away and you may find some shops with them in stock. You can also find these on the sale boards for around £40-£45.

There is also the more rucsack-like ergo which does state suitable from birth with infant-insert but without, it will be about 8 months until you get any use out of it. These are excellent carriers with a hefty price tag (£100 plus the cost of the insert insert which is between £10 and £15 I can't remember) but you MUST buy from a reputable supplier as ebay is SWAMPED with fakes at too good to be true prices.

Or there is manduca which costs from £70 upwards. I've never had this one I'm afraid, but it is apparently very adjustable and comfortable and good for newborns - again it looks manly but probably isn't quite as rucsacky as the ergo. These show up on for sale boards sometimes too but I can't remember how much they go for.

There are some more but I don't want to totally bombard you with info.
I can post some links to good suppliers if anyone wants me too.

Views on the hugabub - I have one actually. This is what is known as a 'stretchy wrap'. They do involve acres of fabric and a bit of a learning curve but they're not tooo tricky and when you get them working for you, they are about the most comfortable thing for a newborn. However, they only have a useful life of up to 4-6mths as the fabric simply isn't supportive enough when the baby gets bigger and you then need to get a different carrier or woven-type wrap rather than stretchy.
You don't need to buy hugabub brand - there are plenty of cheaper brands out there that are essentially the same thing e.g. sleepywrap or moby.
Again hugabubs can be found second hand on the for sale boards for around £20-£25

Hope some of that is helpful [bugrin]

crazychic141187 · 22/04/2011 22:06

ooo kara im 34 weeks on tuesday aswell!!

DP is getting loads better now - he has had his catheter out now and might get the drain out tomorow and his is giving me grief so i know he must be on the mend!

OMG i think i have ballooned over night - i dont remember her being so big!! Someone asked me today "ooo you must be close to your due date!" i was like erm no i have two months left! ive gotten massive!!!

sasamaxx · 23/04/2011 08:25

But you don't have 2 months left crazychick - you only have 6 weeks. That's less than a month and a half [busmile]

Great news about your DH [busmile]

LisasCat · 23/04/2011 10:01

jasmine did you go to Ikea yesterday? Was it like all of Dante's levels of purgatory arranged according to room, with footprints for you to follow? If I'd read your post yesterday, I probably would have begged you, for the love of sanity and your unborn child, to reconsider! As it is, we're probably too late and are now a woman down on this board. I'd like us all to have a moment's silence for jasmine51, who is quite possibly still somewhere around the office furniture level, crumpled to the floor, weeping.

I should just say, I have nothing against Ikea, and in fact if you visited my house armed with their catalogue, you would probably be able to spot a few familiar items. But on Good Friday? When every human being appears to have decided that they simply have to visit either Ikea or the garden centre? Well, you are a braver woman than I.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/04/2011 11:48

Waiting for the MW. Have printed off my birth plan, reasons why I want a home birth and some FAQs for objection handling.
Have considered the information with regard to cord clamping and risk of jaundice and have put that I want to have a slight delay of a couple of minutes before clamping, rather than waiting until it stops pulsing, and then to have the syntocin injection after this.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/04/2011 15:06

Yey!!!

My MW was very supportive of me having a home birth :)

She is coming to my house again a week on Friday as there is a checklist she needs to go through to check everything is okay, but looks like it will be. She just asked where I would have the baby, access in case of a hospital transfer and whether we have somewhere safe to store the entonox!

She has also recommend I contact some one for a session on aromatherapy in labour and also said that our local hospital does TENS hire!

I am [bugrin]

Beesok · 23/04/2011 17:37

Hello June Ladies!!! Just wanted to pop in and say HI! (inspired by Supersunny - I am almost 15 wks and so far so good so wanted to share the good news with you and hope that you're all well and enjoying the last few weeks! Can't wait to hear the baby news :)
Happy Easter everyone! [bugrin]

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/04/2011 17:45

Did you hear your name, Beesok [bugrin]

Anyway, congratulations!!!

jasmine51 · 23/04/2011 18:33

Hey Beesok congrats, thanks for telling us your great news

Lisa Ikea was spookily quiet yesterday. My theory is that going to the one in MK means 30% of the prospective shoppers are driving round and round being lost forever to the MK grid road system. 30% give up after getting dizzy trying to find the entrance to the carpark and another 30% are nagged into going to Bicester Village instead, leaving just 10% to fight for bags of tealights. I have to admit by the time we got to the bedroom section I was very tempted to try out one of the beds...just for a few minutes.

Kara yay for your hb.

DH is as grumpy as ever - he has done a days work tidying up the patio ready for the barbe tomorrow and that hasnt helped his mood. Anyone want to loan their supportive lovely 'excited about bump' DH to me for a while just to restore my faith in partners?

sasamaxx · 23/04/2011 21:22

Congratulations Beesok that's great news!!

lol@ lisascat

crazychic141187 · 23/04/2011 22:09

OK sasa dont scare me with numbers like that! argh! My mum came back off her holiday today and my sister said "argh you look so pregnant!"

So its official I have a Hippopotamus growing inside of me!!!

Back in the hospital today and DP is looking loads better and he has turned really emotional since being in there and he is getting really happy about meeting his daughter! YAY :)
