daisy we have a massive list. My Dp is a perfectionist and wants to touch up all the paint in our dining room (which I had plastered and decorated in November!) before we:
relocate all the books from the study/ new nursery there!
So we need to paint,
buy a bed for dd (to free up the cot bed)
Buy a book case
Set up the nursery
Empty the study
Change the knobs on all the furniture in there
Wash all baby stuff
Hang curtains
Buy double buggy (and choose one)
Get a new tv for the bedroom (essential for bfeeding in the early days)
Oh yes and dd is being potty trained so one of us constantly needs to be on potty duty!

It is doable I think!

Oh I could do with advice, my step sister (hardly ever see but she is close to my parents who see dd every week) has named her dog our fav name, she is also really struggling ttc. Should I steer clear of the name?

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 09:59

Watched the programme last night too. I now know how babies are made lol!! No seriously it was great :) DH just said, not another baby making programme at the start, but he actually quite enjoyed it! And yes, I do feel very lucky to be pregnant!!

MrsV you're list seems very small to ours lol. We've been doing up our house for a while, but it's one of those houses that you start doing something and something else needs doing before you can do what you originally set out to do!! Have a rush on now as not too much longer, and now we have to bloody go back to the Midlands for at least 2 weeks it's really screwed up our schedule!
Loads of peeps have offered help, but DH wants to do most of it himself (as they do), but we need a lot of plastering done, and we don't know anyone that can do it anyway, so DH going to 'have a go', but by the time he gets to having a go it will be well into June, then if he can't do it we've got to find someone! Arrrrgh!!! I even said I'll have a go, and you never know..... :) (But that would really piss him off if I could!!)

alibaba76 · 06/05/2011 10:09

KLou my DH "had a go" at plastering a while ago. He's very handy but this just didn't work - think it's a real skill!

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 10:15

That's what I said ali, but you know what they're like lol! We had a big conservatory built recently and the plasterer had finished plastering it by the time we got up at 9am!!! (They had the keys) Couldn't believe how quickly they did it! It is a real skill I agree :)

konatsu · 06/05/2011 10:16

Hello to everyone!

It is a very long time I do not write Blush?. and it will be almost impossible for me catching up with all the posts?:(

I?m blue and it seems that everything is going well Wink
But being over forty, I am quite worried sometimes?

Anyone from London?

daisysair · 06/05/2011 12:26

Mrs V definitely doable.

Think we're in a similar boat house doing up wise KLou though thankfully no plastering. We "just" have the downstairs loo to rip out and redo and carpets for stairs and bedrooms (after finishing the upstairs bathroom painting and lighting) left IN the house. Think we've given up hope on the decking this year.

as for the name issue mrs V are you trying to spare step sis's feelings by using same name or are you just not sure you want dog and kid to have same name? if the latter, not much to do, either go for it or not if the former, speak to her? Commend her name choice... I have 3 cousins called Ben. 2 of them from the same side of the family and the other one's parents used to have a dog named Benji! V original lot ours!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/05/2011 13:17

We have plastering that needs doing too but def getting a professional in - our house has those polystyrene ceiling tiles that were all the rage in the 70s. DFIL has stripped them off in the nursery and we need to do the DCs room (dreading it coz of all the mess) then plasterer and decorator are coming while we're away in a few weeks time. All the woodchip wallpaper is coming off and being replaced with lining paper painted the everso imaginative magnolia in both rooms. But they'll look clean and fresh and not 70s ming and that's all that matters!

Hope you're having a good day wishwales

mrsV I guess if they've given their dog that name then they don't intend on using it for a child, so do you mind your child having the same name as their pet...? Are there any other names that you like and have been considering?

Sounds like I missed some good TV last night, I'll see if its repeated!

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 13:39

It'll be on the iplayer capp, but knowing the bbc they'll repeat it somewhere!!

MrsStevo · 06/05/2011 13:57

Oooooh, that sounds like a programme I need to watch too! gotta love Iplayer!

MrsV, your list stresses me just reading it!! But all this talk of plastering and pulling off polystyrene ceiling tiles makes me want to lie down! We aren't redecorating our nursery-to-be as we have a pretty new carpet in there and it wasn't redecorated all that long ago. Carpet and one wall is green and we've bought some stickers of jungley animals and a tree to put up on the plain walls as we're going to make it into a jungle / safari themed room as we went on safari for our honeymoon. Plus it seemed like that would be quite a neutral theme when we were on team yellow.

I have a peanut-related question. I know up until now there has been a big hoo-har about peanut consumption but my notes say that it is safe to eat peanuts now so long as you don't have a million allergies (I have none). I am currently bordering-on addicted to seasame-coated caramelised peanuts and have eaten half a bag today. Should I throw away the second half to save myself / my babies???

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 14:10

I've been eating loads of peanuts MrsS as unless you have an allergy like you say there's no prob.
Nursery sounds lovely. It's so exciting us all doing nurseries isn't it???
Can't wait to finish ours. Have stripped it all now, needs plastering, painting, carpeting and furnishing (and that's just the nursery!!!) so fingers crossed all of the house done by end of June :)

Looking at ordering my pram/travel system as parents are going away Sunday for 6 weeks and they want to buy it. I said would just sort it when they got back but I've found it for £489, and everywhere else is around £555, so I'm worried I'm going to miss out by the time they get back! No point spending more than they have to. I'll have it delivered to theirs and just leave it at their house until our house is finished.

Anu3 · 06/05/2011 14:24

Oh Mrs Stevo - We went on safari last November as well to celebrate our 5th anivarsary( bubba was conceived on that trip Blush) and so we are going with the same theme for our nursery :) Even though we are team Blue we didnt want a blue nursery and wanted to go neutral as well! Im going to go get stickers and wall borders to put them up as soon as we have new carpets in! Any recommendations where i could look for the stickers?

On the subject of new carpets, i read on one of the websites that I have to be careful about what carpets I use as the fumes/ mites the new carpets give out can be harmful for babies. Is that true? Have you heard of that and what kind of carpets do you suggest we get then? I shuld just stay away from google i end up with more stress than information! :(

Anu3 · 06/05/2011 14:27

Also MrsS Ive been eating peanuts quiet regularly and mid wife said it was no problem as long as you have no allergy! so go on and munch the second half :)

alibaba76 · 06/05/2011 14:31

KLou What pram/travel system have you settled on? I am currently in pram hell trying to narrow it down....

konatsu · 06/05/2011 15:03

Anu3 I was looking for stickers a while ago and found these

www.leostickers.com/english/stickers.aspx
www.stikid.com/index.cfm
www.vertbaudet.co.uk/Views/Produits/Liste.aspx?Ns=p_PVENTE1&N=1524

Also Fisher Price does cute stickers -@ Amazon
I?m still in the choosing process though..

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 15:40

Lots of stickers on ebay too when I was looking for Winnie ones months ago :)

Ali We're getting the Jane Slalom Reverse Matrix Light system. It's a bit bulkier than some of the others, and a bit heavier, but we needed a lie flat car seat (I think Britax do one too) because we travel back to the Midlands from Wales a lot, and you can also get a mattress to put in it too so saves us having to take the moses basket as well!! And the reviews have been fab (only negs are about the weight). Also want one that will last us a while as plan to have another when this one is 2ish, so hoping this one will be one that lasts.
We also needed an all terrain one, and DH wanted a 3 wheeler lol! So this fit everything. You can get one of those board thing for toddlers to attach too.
Sorry to those that have one, but I refuse to have a Quinny purely because EVERYONE does that I know of lol! And I like to be different :)

Firawla · 06/05/2011 15:46

konatsu im from london, im sure there must be a few of us on here. whereabouts r u? im north

mrsV hows your potty training going? im training my ds1 now, just done first day going out with no nappies today, actually went fine but i am not too confident with the potty training

MrsVidic · 06/05/2011 17:03

firawla day 4 in knickers only 1 accident! I'm in disbelief!

MrsVidic · 06/05/2011 17:10

Oh on the topic of carpets I really wouldn't bother for a few years, I have sick stains (banana is a bastard) in dd's room and I heavily recommend not carpeting the kitchen!

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 17:46

lol MrsV!! Thankfully we've tiled the kitchen and wood floor in the conservatory (did it on purpose), and not 100% sure yet to change carpet in lounge or just clean it for now.
Need new in nursery though as it's a hideous dark pink colour and will so not go with my colour scheme :)
Yay on the knicker training!!

KLou111 · 06/05/2011 17:48

Any advice on what toys to get bubba? Thinking of getting a playmat thingy, and a cot mobile, but not sure what else or if it is worth it for a newborn? TIA

Firawla · 06/05/2011 18:53

oh mrs V that is really good! welldone to your dd!

klou would definitely get a playmat, they come in handy or a playgym kinda mat and also a bouncy chair, i found v useful for both mine and hopefully this one will like it too (fisher price are good, very strong and durable, im gonna use my same one again for 3rd time)

MrsVidic · 06/05/2011 18:53

Baby gyms are good, door bouncer is a life saver when they hold their own head well, a vibrating, musical bouncing chair was a good investment, my dd wasn't into comforters etc.

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/05/2011 19:21

We had a cot mobile and never used it, but baby gym, bouncy chair and door bouncer all had a lot of use. Also an activity centre for 4m (ish) + is just brilliant, it means they can be upright and see what's going on and have things to play with while you cook/go to the loo etc. Also if you have older children its a great place to put a crawling baby if you're doing something like a jigsaw that you don't want the baby to pull apart and start eating. They are often on ebay, and there are lots of makes. We really liked the baby einstein on although this time we're borrowing the mamas and papas one which is also great.
Another great thing is an inflatable playnest although if you can borrow one I'd recommend it as there's only a very small window where they're useful so its the sort of thing people have in their lofts.

Still in denial about the need to potty train DS (nearly 2.8). Going to give it a go at half term. 4yo DD is still bribed with sweets to go to the toilet of her own accord and not wait to be sent/wee in her pants.

We need to get a new carpet in the nursery as its threadbare pink floral granny ming, but as its the box room and only 2mx2m we're hoping to get a cheap off cut of something acceptable rather than spend a fortune on something 'proper'. I remember the projectile poo, projectile vomit...

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/05/2011 19:23

MrsS I have it on the most excellent authority that eating peanuts is fine if you have no history of allergy. And the resulting children will love peanut butter sandwiches and also show no sign of allergy Grin

konatsu · 06/05/2011 20:42

KLou11 I went for Jane too ? Rider though with the Matrix too. Where did you get it from? I got it on line, much cheaper than shop. I did not order the mattress yet, but I will get it soon.

Firawla, I am in east London.

For the baby gym & co. have you seen the offer on Boots 3x2?! On-line and shop. Great prices and choices! And you can use your points too.

I'm catching up with past posts?:)
