HI everyone, I know it is very early but I got a very faint positve line this morning, and another at lunch, and another at tea time! Was not due AF till Thurs but was meant to be going for a proceedure that involved radiation tomorrow so needed to do checks and here I am, and there I will not be! I have already got 2 and not told OH yet but need to tell somebody! Anyone else yet?

I am so very very tired, but no other symptoms. Saw GP today so I suppose it is official on paper at least.

I am starting to get the fear about how I am going to cope, are any of you? The boys just turned 2, so they are a good 18 months off nursery unless I go for a private one - which, here in SW London, are all booked up - arg. Also DH works 13 hour days so I'm on my own with them all day.

Just eaten half of a M&S hot chocolate pudding - wow. The baby shrew will be delighted! :)

Cherrypi · 12/04/2011 21:08

Hi all. Anyone else getting sore muscles in their feet? This is my first time so not really sure what to expect. Didnt have any symptons till i did the test.

Jan9ne · 12/04/2011 21:20

UntamedShrew - i am worrying about how we are going to cope financially with a whacking great mortgage and both of us having to work. We've been really lucky with DD as my parents look after her and mil does one day a week. I just can't expect my parents to put their lives on hold for another 4 years plus they live 200 miles away so what they have done for us is amazing.
So will have to pay for someone to have dd after school and put baby in nursery which will mean we will have to move or embark upon a life of crime haha!

UntamedShrew · 12/04/2011 21:22

Feet is a new one on me Confused. Maybe something like relaxing ligaments? Can't remember when that all happens.

Anyone else watching bbc3 breast feeding programme? Screaming newborn, dead behind the eyes mother, bringing it all back! I said to DH when the baby was screaming can you hear that? He said hear what? Grin

Cherrypi · 12/04/2011 21:31

May be being a bit paranoid. Ooh thanks for pointing that programme out. I'll try and watch it on iplayer.

Strawberries - is restless legs a symptom? Does anyone know why? It's highly irritating.

Goodnight all

xstitch · 12/04/2011 22:55

I know what you mean shrew although I only have 1. DP is going to be away all week.

I have been offered an interview and I really don't know what to do. DP thinks I shouldn't go I think I should but be honest. Don't want to burn any bridges for future. What do you ladies think?

BeeMyBaby · 13/04/2011 06:59

untamedschrew what was the programme called?

I was wondering for those of you which are having DC2 etc, are you planning to go to any of the free anti natal classes the nhs provides? Last time I just went to the birthing one, but I'm thinking about going to the bfing one this yime, but not sure if others there will find me odd - was hoping it would be like a refreshers course?

I started watching breast is best and tbh found it a bit boring so turned over and watched filthy cities instead. The bit where wotsit Snow got out the bath was quite nice...

xstitch what have you got to lose from going to the interview? if they offer you the job you can decide then. Also you don't legally have to tell your employer til 25 weeks.

beemybaby i won't be going on any birthing courses this time round. I enjoyed the nct ones last time (only went to meet other expectant mums) but always knew i would do what i wanted to when it came to the birth; if i wanted pain relief i would have it,if i needed a c - section i would have it, i knew i wouldn't want candle-light or whale music in the background, i would just want the damn thing out! As it happened the birth was so quick there was no time for any pain relief or anything! Hoping for a quickie this time around too.

What i may do is go to a breast feeding clinic after the birth. I found breast feeding really hard to start with last time and dual fed until i got used to it.

xstitch - I don't know what the rules are in the UK, but when I started this job last year, another woman joined at the same time and it turned out she was pregnant when she joined. It was a difficult situation - she said that she didn't know whether she wanted to keep it or not as she had broken up with her boyfriend, which is why she didn't say but many people, particularly women in the office thought it was very shady and the managers felt manipulated.
Apparently here in Denmark, if you say that you are pregnant at the interview and don't get the job, then the onus is on the company to prove that this wasn't because you were pregnant.
In this woman's case, I think they would have employed her in some capacity anyway because she was qualified for the job and they are a really good, family-oriented agency. In the end, they went beyond the legal minimum and gave her a decent amount of paid maternity leave but no job offer to come back to.

I am sure its a really different situation in the UK...and probably employers have less to lose. Are UK companies even obliged to give you full-pay maternity?
So its difficult to say - but I would probably do what you said...

LittleBlueBoat · 13/04/2011 09:45

Hi

I have my booking in appointment to day with the midwife at my doctors.

Does anyone know what happeneds and will she listen to the heart beat?

(I've namechanged but i'm on this thread and on the stats)

This is my secong child but i didn't have this with the first.

kat2504 · 13/04/2011 10:21

Companies are not obliged to give you anything more than statutory maternity pay. If you qualify for this they must keep your job open for you. To qualify you have to have bben with them enough weeks, this means not being pregnant when you started. Many companies pay additional maternity pay on top of the legal minimum.

If you don't qualify for smp your employer doesn't pay you anything. You may be entitled to claim maternity allowance, this is a benefit paid for9 months by the government. You have to have done certain amount of work in the previous year to qualify.

kat2504 · 13/04/2011 10:26

Booking in is very boring. They take blood and pee. They spend ages filling in your maternity notes by hand. They ask you a long list of questions about your medical history. They give you information about what weeks you will have appointments with them. They will book your scan. Too early to hear the heartbeat. They may give you nhs pregnancy book. You can ask them questions. Lots of paperwork basically. Good luck, and don't forget they will want a sample.

ThePippy · 13/04/2011 11:08

Morning all and welcome newbies.

TheBightyMoosh totally understand your concerns about age - I am 40 (had DD at 38) so I am also terrified of the possibility of medical issues even more so than last time. My Aunt had a mentally handicapped daughter who effectively didn't get past mental age of about 6 for her whole life - she passed away in her late 50's when my Aunt was in her early 80's and had effectively had no life of her own - she was completely dedicated to her daughter for her whole life and it was a massive hole that was left when she was gone. So I have seen what life could be like and I am clearly not the person she is as I know I couldn't cope and if I have a bad triple test result I will have a CVS and then if there is a serious problem I will almost certainly not continue. I hate even thinking this and I am so paranoid about the whole thing. Trying not to think about it too much and just hoping my little eggs weren't too out of date!

I'm I the only 2nd timer struggling to remember anything of early stages of previous pregnancy? I have very few symptoms but last night I felt VERY pregnant with low down pressure that I only remember from late stages (after baby engaged) last time, but then I wondered if maybe I did feel it last time and just can't remember!

Jan9ne · 13/04/2011 11:18

ThePippy i get where you're coming from - i am 39 and really quite nervous about the nuchal fold scan and the blood test (if i even get that far). I had my dd when i was 35 and felt quite ancient then even! I know that as you get older chances of problems increase. I totally understand what you are saying about your aunt. My cousin has two seriously mentally handicapped children and another cousin has a little boy with ds who's about 11 now who has never spoken. I know i couldn't do it and i have huge admiration who those who cope. It's really tough, my cousin with the two children has had to fight tooth and nail for support for her two and her life has been exceptionally tough.
Like you - really hope i released a good egg!

plupedantic · 13/04/2011 11:55

Hello, everyone, does an EDD of December 19 make us (!) too late for this bus?

DC2 has given remarkably little sign of its presence so far - less tender breasts than before some periods! - so I still don't feel at all pregnant yet, but had my booking in appointment with the GP this morning (making a third positive test), so guess I am! Grin

I'm with a lot of you in worrying about being older this time round, too. I'll be 37 in a few weeks, and it's just the wrong side of 35 for me to feel comfortable until we have our 12 week scan.

Thankfully, I gave up coffee and alcohol for Lent, but am wondering how to manage afterwards, as it will seem very strange to everyone that I have not started drinking again (I do love my wine). We're having friends to stay in early May, which is well before 12 weeks, and we may have to tell them, so that means telling our parents, too, as I don't want others knowing before the GPs (apart from my father, who's very indiscreet! Sad).

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 13:13

ThePippy I understand what you're saying, my dd will be 15 in June. I was only 20 when I had her, 19 when I fell pg, and so don't recall having any fears or symptoms whatsoever in the early stages.
Still had that teenage invincible thing about me maybe?!

I guess my ectopic last year is what has made me fearful this time around.

ps. I work in employment law, and most companies will have a length of service requirement in order to be eligible for their occupational (i.e above statutory) maternity scheme.
It's sometimes advisable to suss out at the time, and depending on how the interview goes, whether to tell the prospective employer during the interview. You are not required to at this stage (unless asked directly of course, which would be highly unlikey at this stage).
At end of day, its direct discrimination to not appoint a woman because of her pregnancy, but taking such a case to tribunal (whilst pregnant) is probably not an appealing prospect for most women.

adalle · 13/04/2011 13:22

Hi folks I posted this on another thread yesterday but no one replied so far so just wondering if anyone on my bus knows?

I went to docs last week to check that my 2 BFPs were wrong and it was the change. Expected the GP to check but they did nothing just said i was preggies and did my BP. Which was sky high for obvious reasons. (Shock)

Then they ordered a series of blood tests which in truth they were going to do for other reasons last month, then they gave me the termination phone number and said they would fax the antenatal clinic to get me booked in as an urgent case .... If I decided to go ahead ... Still waiting.

Can someone tell me what urgent is in antenatal timescales? I am about 6 weeks now so do I sit around waiting for the 10 or 12 weeks deadline to pass? Or will they do something sooner? The doc said ring them if I terminated in the meantime! Confused

xstitch · 13/04/2011 13:28

Its normal for them not to check pregnancy tests because the home tests are considered so accurate these days. Don't like the sound of your GP's 'bedside manner' tbh. As its an urgent case I would imagine you would hear something quicker than the 12 week mark although any scan prior to 7 weeks is pointless. Every health board area is different. Hope things are OK with you adalle

ThePippy · 13/04/2011 13:28

Hi adalle maybe they think the pregnancy is high risk and want to get checks in place and early scans booked in? Can't believe they gave you the termination number - did you indicate that you weren't sure you wanted the baby or something? Can you call the antenatal clinic yourself to check that the doc has done what they said? I have had consultant referals (not for pregnancy) go missing in the past.

BlueCrane · 13/04/2011 13:35

Hello all...just wanted to reserve my seat as got a feint BFP earlier today Grin am still quite in shock and haven't ben able to tell DH yet as he's still at work (does shifts but will finish soon!). It's our 3rd month of trying for DC1 so still all very very new! MN been a life saver whilst TTC and I'm sure I'll have stacks of questions as the next few days/weeks/months pass! eeek I really need to get my head around this!! Shock Am going to test again in the morning and hopefully my line will be darker and then I'll be back to get comfy in my seat here!

xstitch · 13/04/2011 13:36

Welcome blue A line is a line. My first was quite faint. I have done a few more since Blush
