Wow, can't believe how busy it has been on here today.
Congratulations and welcome to all the newbies.
It's so hard not to tell anyone when all you want to do is eat ice lollies and stay close to a toilet! Blush
I'm just baking my DS his first birthday cake, which I'm planning on shaping as a tractor (his favourite current toy) much to DH amusement.

Snowdropfairy · 05/04/2011 08:54

Happy first birthday to happytree's lo Grin

I'm worried about having bigger boobs - i'm still breastfeeding my 2 yo and i'm a G cup - i can't possibly get any bigger Shock

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 05/04/2011 09:09

Good luck with the birthday cake happytree.

Ok,I neeeeed nausea remedies. Thankfully not being sick but the nausea is horrid and I'd like to avoid eating my own body weight in carbs!

moonchaser · 05/04/2011 09:46

MrsW, I have ds1 age 10, ds2 age 6 and dd age 2. They all have birthdays days apart in November so will all be a year older by time this one comes along but with a due date of Dec 2nd its going to be very busy! My dd doesn't start nursery till January am worrying already that she will feel its because of the baby coming along. She is such a mummy's girl have no idea how she is going to be having to share attention. We are going to look at cars within the next few weeks obviously going to be a lot to think about!

Happytree good luck with the cake! Your better then me I would be going to the supermarket for a cake [lazy mum] Hope your DS has a lovely birthday.

Another one with boobs growing but seeing as I am only small in that department its a blessing for me! Grin

Girlwiththemouseyhair, ginger biscuits I believe are meant to help if you like ginger (I cant stand it so that's out for me!) or I have read before that the travel sickness wrist bands can help but never tried it myself. I find that as long as I eat the sickness subsides quite a bit but if your at work I understand that can be quite hard to do! Maybe eating little and often could help?

Happy 1st birthday to Happytree's DS! Smile
Moonchaser, I'm sure your DD will be fine. From my experience girls are much happier to go off to nursery. However, if she srtuggles with the whole new baby thing over Christmas, you could always delay her starting until Feb half term. By then she'll be desperate to get away from the screaming. I love my kids to bits but the first 3months are awful. Really hard.

I'm quite sick too but as long as I eat dry white bread products I'm ok. I tend to vomit about 6times a day though from week 6 to week 12. Ginger makes me worse. My boobs are in agony too. I don't remember them being this bad with the other 3.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

MrsWitcher · 05/04/2011 10:46

Thunderboltkid, since 2007 (I think) health authorities should be offering nuchal scans to all pregnant women. But, of course, in practice it hasn't happened yet and many still just offer a dating scan at 12-14wks. In my neighbouring authority the standard 12wk scan is a nuchal scan but not here. However, when I pregnant with DD1, we lived in a differnt area and I had a nuchal as standard. During the other 2 pregnancies, we had to pay.

We will pay again this time and have the 11wk bloods done that help increase the accuracy of the results. Smile

MrsWitcher · 05/04/2011 10:48

Oh and don't bother with larger, normal bras. Just go for maternity bras or buy some extenders for the back of your normal bras.

You can get some really pretty maternity underwear now. I bought the Elle Macpherson stuff in my 2nd pregnancy and they did me through pregnancy and BF then again for the next pregnancy. Fantastically comfortable and very pretty.

Hi everyone
Just marking my place. I am apparently (according to 3 tests!) pg. But my period isn't even due until Thursday so I'm keeping it very quiet and trying to ignore the nausea and ridiculousy sharp sense of smell... if this goes ahead then it will be DC2 and DD will be about 3.5 when no. 2 arrives.

Ernie1 · 05/04/2011 12:15

Congratulations Puddlet!

Earwiggo · 05/04/2011 12:49

Congrats and welcome Puddlet.

I think mat bras are the same as nursing bras but not sure where is a good place to go for them, I found mothercare a bit useless last time.

Has anyone else been checking out clothes online, I like blooming marvelous but when I googled them it seems they have been bought by mothercare, hope they don't change them too much.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 05/04/2011 13:03

We have nuchal scans as standard in our area too, you can opt out if you want but they are offered on NHS.

I keep eating through the sickness and then feel more sick because I'm so full, bleurgh.

I think maternity bras are just wireless whereas nursing bras you can unclip from the front to feed. I was bought one hot milk nursing bra last time, which was so gorgeous, but otherwise stuck to cheapie M&S. To be honest glad I didn't spend too much, I leaked all the time so all the bras were a state from being washed several times a day by the time breastfeeding was over. A bit early to be thinking about it but on the subject I recommend getting washable rather than disposable breast pads.

I bought quite a bit of maternity wear from the high street (Topshop, H&M, DP), cheaper than the exclusive places - but I have a friend due in June who has earmarked all her lovely Isabella Oliver handmedowns for me! That's the annoying thing about winter babies, if we were due in the summer it'd just be lots of maxi dresses

congrats and welcome puddlet

whatsoever · 05/04/2011 13:05

Thanks Iggly will find some time to check out the acronym list, it will helps loads! I go on quite a few forums for my very eclectic interests in life and it is usually surprisngly quick to get into the vocab.

Congrats to all the other newly pregnant folk.

Going to tell my actingboss today - much earlier than I intended but I have told a lot of friends (including two good friends I work with) and I don't want him to find out from anyone else. Plus I am knackered and I want him to know why as otherwise my promotion prospects may go down the pan rapidly. My actual boss is on maternity leave at the moment so it may cause him to weep, so I am building myself up to it.

FleeBee · 05/04/2011 13:10

I've been advised to have a nuchal scan as I'm 36. I didn't have them with DC1 & 2 as they weren't available on the NHS. Just waiting for the appointment to come through. We've moved house since DC2 so not sure how this area does the appointments as I had booking in appointments at home last time.

I went to a zumba class night which I've been doing since January, just took it easy and didn't feel too bad. I know my friends were looking at my half-hearted attempts and must have been thinking I'm a lazy piece.

Not feeling/being sick yet. Had horrendous sickness with both DDs. I wonder if this one might be a boy then, DH has everything crossed it is!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 05/04/2011 13:17

is that the deal sicker for girls than boys? Not sure how I feel, honestly would be happy with either but when I think of having one I feel sad I won't have the other!

FleeBee · 05/04/2011 13:21

It's probably an old wives tale but I was told 100000s of times that lots of sickness indicates girls, and it did in my case twice!!! I'm sure there are thousands of people who can say the opposite!!!

My DH really wants to have a boy, he's in a house of girls at the moment. I guess I would too, but then feel a bit strange as girls are what I've been used to!

DD2 has chicken pox at the moment which made me panic a bit, but the pharmacist advised me that as I've already had it then there is no risk to the baby. Poor DD2 is really suffering and no doubt DD1 will get it really soon.

Hope everyone else is doing well x

MrsWitcher · 05/04/2011 13:23

Congratulations and welcome, Puddlet. Smile
ThunderboltKid, I think you can just get maternity bras but I don't see the point if you're going to breastfeed. The EM ones I mentioned unclipped for feeding and one of the really great things about them was that under the bit that unclipped, your boobs were still supported by a triangle of bra if that makes sense. Lots of others I had, you unclipped and your boob just flopped out. So I found the EM ones both really supportive and discreet.

However, I take Mousey's point about leaking+washing. For some strange reason I have never leaked through BF 3 kids for 6mths each. I tend to leak in the last month of pg but never afterwards so I've never used breast pads.

Maybe it's because all three of mine fed constantly every two hours for the first few months. They still eat me out of house and home. When I think back to how DH and I used to go through 2 pints of milk a week and now it's 6+! Oh and one dark and one light wash a week! Ah, the good old days! Grin

MrsWitcher · 05/04/2011 13:25

re sickness; I definitely was more sick with the girls than with DS though still very sick with him. I think DH would like another boy to even things out and my experience so far is that boys are so easy compared to girls. But obviously, especially at my age, I'm just hoping for a healthy baby.

Iggly · 05/04/2011 13:36

Congratulations and welcome puddle!

Girl, I found that breaking up my meals into smaller portions works well at keeping the nausea to a minimum. Plus having more protein helps. So for breakfast, I?ll have half a bowl of porridge, then at work have an egg muffin or peanut butter on toast. Lunch ? I?ll eat one sandwich early then the second one two hours later. Mid afternoon have nuts/fruit/yoghurt. Get home, have a snack then a small dinner then another snack before bedtime. Also sip water through the day as if I drink too much, makes me feel crap! This is the method I adopted with DS (terrible morning sickness, but he was a boy so not sure about girls being worse)

Nuchal scans ? we are offered them regardless of age. I don?t think you get a 12 week scan otherwise around here, not sure. I?ll ask! Our nuchal scans are at the teaching hospital which is good as the sonographers are very very experienced (ours said he could take an educated guess at the sex although did concede it was early but he was right).

I think maternity bras are different to nursing bras ? nursing bras will have catches on them. Maternity bras are just more comfy. I?d for nursing bras if you?re planning to BF.

BeeMyBaby · 05/04/2011 14:33

I bought maternity bras not realising the diffrence, then bought nursing bras after realising I'd need them, so on that it was a bit of a waste of money. On the otherhand my cup size went up from a B/C to a DD after I gave birth and the milk came in so it wasn't so bad that I had to buy more.

Xiaoxiong · 05/04/2011 14:33

FleeBee I haven't felt sick at all yet, to the point that I took another test yesterday just to make sure I was still pregnant. I thought by 7 weeks along I would be like something out of the exorcist but nothing yet (this is what comes from getting your info on pregnancy from romcoms). I would love to ask my mother if she had morning sickness but will have to rely on the kindness of internet strangers until she can bring herself to talk about it. (She's not good with anything that reminds her she's getting older...she was a nightmare when I got married as well.)

xstitch · 05/04/2011 15:18

fleebee or anyone else in the CP situation you can get your GP to check your immunity if you have concerns. It can help put your mind at rest.

Never leaked mrswitcher? What's your secret.

I am putting off telling my my tyelperion I don't think she will be happy. Getting married soon and she will be affronted that I am pregnant on my wedding day.

MrsWitcher · 05/04/2011 16:19

No secret re the leaking. It just doesn't happen to me. Not sure why as I always produce copious amounts of milk. I guess I should be grateful but I forget that it's unusual. I do get that tingle sensation when I hear babies cry but that still didn't cause me to leak. Though I do have a good friend who would soak through whenever she heard another baby cry in cafes etc. That must drive you nuts!

I always hate the first trimester. Sickness and massive carb intake+waiting for the first midwife appointment and the first scan. I normally have a very noticable bump by 15 or 16wks and from then on I start to enjoy it a little. We are going to 2 weddings this summer, one in July, the other August. I will have quite a bump for both (assuming everything goes ok over the next few weeks). I'm wondering whether maxi dresses are the way to go?

moonchaser · 05/04/2011 16:19

MrsW, Yes I am sure she will be ok will really be a case of wait and see how things go I think. She is very independant and knows the school well because of the boys going there so fingers crossed she will be ok.

I remember being much sicker when pregnant with DD then the boys too. A girl this time would be a nice playmate for my DD as she is turning into a bit of a tomboy having two brothers and being dragged to football, cricket and boxing! But I would prefer another another boy as like MrsW I have found my two boys much easier!

Fleebee, my DD was also confirmed as having CP last week also. I was advised the same as you by the practice nurse.
