no post delivery meal for me BUT sister is buying a HUGE bottle of malibu! lol

Am more relaxed now thankfully. all sorted with OU (although i now have the nickname of 8mth pregnant activist! LOL)

Went to nephews birthday and spent some time with sis and some friends and had a laugh and now DH has taken DS, DD and DSD to the pub and is under strict instructions that he will be dealing with the tired children tomorrow because im on strike as mummy till Sunday morning! He seems to have taken it OK. LOL we will see tomorrow!
DS was ok today really, we had a nice morning of cake baking and seed planting and he was ok till about an hour into my nephews party when he blew his lid .... still dont know what triggered it but luckily DH was there and managed to get him out of the house away from everyone and restrain him BUT he came running at me which was quite scary. I love my son but i am so scared when the autism monster rears its head....has just confirmed why i will not leave house with him on my own! eeeek am scared of my 10 year old!

Just watched eastenders and am now exhausted....very draining episode although i held back the tears! thankgod its over but next weeks episodes look so sad and happy all at the same time!

A day of studying tomorrow for me and am gonna try and rest too!

Wigeon · 15/04/2011 21:29

Hello fellow heavily-pregnant ladies! I have been attempting to lurk but even that's been a bit much given the speed of the thread.

Congratulations to those who have reached the magic 37 weeks!

I am 36 weeks and just started maternity leave today - horray! Coincidentally from a desk about 2 metres away from where StiffyByng's desk was (due a week before me). Also hoping for a homebirth and should have the midwife arranging to come round for the home visit next week sometime.

Don't think I've actually realised that there's a baby at the end of all this (even though I've got a DD) - anyone else?!

saldoozer · 15/04/2011 21:49

Hello again,
Its all getting very near, i'm now 37+2 and since reaching the full term mark have been even more keen for the baby to make an appearance, keep trying to tell myself that it could be 4 more weeks but its not really working. I've been having lots of period pain like twinges since tuesday but they don't progress into anything.
I have ordered a halloumi wrap fom the greek deli near the hospital as a post delivery snack, its not technically banned but they are so nice.
Feeling generally grumpy and impatient tonight and hope little saldoozer makes an appearance soon.

kiwigirlinlondon · 15/04/2011 22:51

There are so many foods I want for my post delivery meal, it's going to be hard to choose! Is it unreasonable to dream that on the way home from the birthing centre I can stop by waitrose and buy lots of them?! I'm thinking buffalo mozzarella, Parma ham, oysters, sushi and definitely some bubbly! Pate also sounds so good

Vicbic · 16/04/2011 00:39

Bonkerz - i hadn't considered a post delivery meal, but as others have suggested, pate is going to be pretty high on my list! i have missed it more than anything else!
Loopy - i got the d+v from Dp when he came to visit - damnit!! just hope i haven't passed it to anyone else (looking ok at mo thank goodness)

JBrd · 16/04/2011 05:09

Can't sleep, argh! Surely you're meant to bank up on sleeping right now... My hips are so sore from always lying on my side, and I get leg cramps. DH happily snoring away, grrrr...
Really pissed off with him anyway, he's meant to be off the booze now, so that he can get home/drive me to hospital when things kick off. And what did he do last night? Happily guzzle away on a number of glasses of red wine! When I asked him (rather testily) if he was still able to drive, he admitted probably not and said, 'It's OK, we can get a taxi!'. Only thing is, we live relatively in the sticks, and I know from experience that it can be very tricky to get a taxi here that hasn't been pre-booked! So annoyed with him, is it really too much to ask that he stays sober for a few weeks?! I think I'll have to play the pregnancy card and have a go at him - first time, he's been so good until now!

Finally packed my bag, yay! A few bits and pieces still need to go in, but the majority is done. I'm struggling to put aside a set of going-home clothes, as I'm now down to 2 pairs of trousers that still fit, and I will need to wear them in the next couple of week! Might resort to tracksuit bottoms for getting back from the hospital...

Nursery decorating is about to start tomorrow, finally! Left very much to the last minute, but the lodger only just moved out. We'll be getting new carpets as well for the stairs and landing, not sure though if we should try and get them in before baby arrives... I guess I'd know the day the carpet was meant to be put down would be the day I go into labour Grin!

Ah well, better stop rambling and try to get back to sleep... Guess I better get used to the broken nights...

ilovemydogandMrObama · 16/04/2011 09:07

jbells You don't really need anything to b/f, although a good b/f bra would be useful, a tube of Lansinoh and maybe some pads as most people leak. A pump isn't really necessary unless you want/need someone else to feed the baby, and usually this won't be for awhile.

pistachio I know what you mean about being on full alert. DD (4) has been especially needing more cuddles, but also has been wandering up in the middle of the night into my bed which isn't great for sleeping. DS (3) then comes wandering up to find her, so it's like Grand Central Station. DD is also 'expecting' a baby and is very tired. However, she has '10 babies' in her tummy Hmm

Anyone doing a baby wash? I've never done one, but read that there are chemicals used when they are packaged?

gingerwench · 16/04/2011 14:01

hello all

I'm with runningmonkey on the stinky cheese, pate and wine for my post delivery meal.

Anyone else had excruciating pains in pubic area? I called triage to talk to a midwife in case they thought I should be worried. They were really nasty sharp pains that caused me to catch my breath and couldn't move for a while. I knew they weren't contractions but wondered if I should be worried. Apparently likely to just be the baby pinching a nerve so I wonder if it's moving down a bit.

So pleased I've given up work. All yesterday I found it harder and harder to get up after sitting down for a while and I was walking like a little old lady! It was lovely how many people made the effort to say goodbye - as a contractor it's very much a case of easy come easy go on projects but I've been on this one for 14 months though. Came away with a load of John Lewis/Waitrose vouchers, cards, boxes of chocolates (x3!) and flowers! Most unexpected and lovely. I think I will use the vouchers on some clothes/toys for the new baby after he/she arrives.

I did a full baby wash first time round, and ironed all the muslins too! This time I'm only washing the brand new stuff, everything else was put away clean adn I'm definitely not ironing anything. Not sure about the packaging chemicals but certainly new clothes often smell a bit synthetic? if nothing else it makes you feel like you are doing something constructive.

Rollercoasteryears · 16/04/2011 16:29

Ooh I like all the talk/planning going on about post delivery meals - good ideas! Unfortunately there's not much I can plan, as I didn't actually really give anything up. Am vegetarian so pate, seafood etc doesn't feature and have continued to eat soft boiled eggs and soft cheese and drink the odd glass of wine anyway... I think we'll definitely have a bottle of champagne in the fridge however!

Ilove DS (2.5) also has a baby in his tummy and talks about how the food he eats is going to his baby and how he's going to feed it milk from his boobies Grin

Bonkerz hope you've had a nice relaxing day and DH lived up to his promise!

Wigeon DH and I were just talking last night about how hard it is to grasp the reality of a baby at the end of it. I certainly hadn't grasped it with DS and he remembers the moment (post birth) when it hit him that we really were responsible for this little being and would be for a very long time! I think I've got a better grasp of it this time but DH is struggling again - becoming a family of four seems a bit theoretical still!

Loopy birth announcements? Are you one of those impressive people who sends out cards with the baby's photo on? Can you actually organise that before the baby's here? I never did that - texts to everyone and a few photos on facebook was as good as it got...

Jbells I agree with the others that the only thing you need to BF is some breast pads and lansinoh. The latter in particular could well make all the difference between giving up or not - it's miracle stuff (and surprisingly good for very chapped lips too!).

Jbells/Gotart/Cazzr (and anyone else who was discussing the personal hygiene habits of their relationship and whether their DH shares TMI or not) - we're firmly in the Jbells camp of no sharing at all! I don't think I've ever heard DH fart and on the few occasions where I have by mistake in bed, I've been mortified and we've both pretended it didn't happen! He would never dream of showing me anything unpleasant like a badly located ingrowing hair and I haven't even told him I've got a vulva varicose vein this pregnancy (not sure why he thinks I'm getting up and sitting down so gingerly Wink ). There's certainly no question of spot squeezing etc in this house!

Perpetually exciting to have had a show!

loopy (and any other experts out there on the subject of homebirth) I need to buy some sort of plastic sheet to cover the bed etc at home - we're getting a plastic floor mat thing as part of the accessories kit with the BPIB but haven't got anything to cover the bed. Any suggestions for what/where to buy? The MW suggested an old shower curtain or ground sheet from a tent if we have them but we're not that kind of household - we don't do camping and anything old gets chucked...

brillopads · 16/04/2011 16:29

Yesterday was my last day in work!
I had a growth scan at the hospital in the morning so didn't get in til almost 12 noon;

my results from the scan were, at 35w +2

Head Circum 314.1
Abdominal Circum 300.6
Femur Length 63.7
Est. weight 2295g / 5lb 1oz

Rollercoasteryears · 16/04/2011 16:33

P.S. Not sure if anyone still needs a few bargain clothes but if so, I'd recommend looking at the sale section on the Frugi website ( www.welovefrugi.com/ ) . For those who haven't come across Frugi, they sell organic fairtrade cotton clothes and all the baby clothes are designed to fit over cloth nappies, which is how I discovered them with DS. They do some lovely stuff, but inevitably their ethical credentials mean they're generally quite expensive. I have however just bought baby a lovely cardigan down from £27 to £9, a dress down from £24 to £5 and a top down from £16 to £5 - all beautifully made and very soft organic cotton - bargain or what?!

linziluv · 16/04/2011 16:46

Hi everyone...glad to see everyone is well...i'm 35 weeks +1 now and so fed up of being pregnant now...pregnancy no. 1 is definitely easier!
I'm sat here trying to remember what everyone has posted but my brain is mush!
Baby is pushing so far down it feels like she may just pop out! My appetite is pretty crap now and I'm soooo tired.
Not packed bag yet but have bought a few essentials so not too bad if she arrives early! I bought a waterproof mattress protector for £2.99 from a local cheap curtain/bedding shop (textile direct).
Sick to death of "D"P...he just has not got a clue and has been awful to me lately...can't bear to even be around him at the minute! Can see myself getting rid if things don't change...he's 38, not a child...certainly old enough to accept responsibility for his actions! I could rant all day about him but I'm so far past caring....
Well all ready for britains got talent tonight but very disappointed there's no Simon!!

Bonkerz · 16/04/2011 17:49

Hi all, didnt really relax as planned but was my choice. Dh came up to bed about 12:30am and woke me up which meant Max started kicking and then hiccupping and then it was toilet run every 10 minutes and then the acid reflux started and i was actually sick with it 3 times till 4am! woke at 8am with terrible diarreoh and when i finally got out of bed at 10 i noticed (TMI ALERT) that i had snotty blood in pants :0( have had to wear a pad today but its slowing now. Did get downstairs and sat on sofa but then had pulsating back pain that came every 12 minutes and i decided i needed to get out of the house! went and strolled round supermarket, pains carried on and got to every 9 minutes but stopped eventually at about 2pm! quite scary especially when i felt a clunk and couldnt walk and literally stopped mid aisle in morrissons lol
I will add another vote in for lasinoh and say that im actually using it already as i find it toughens up the nipples and gives a good basis for breast feeding.....very expensive but amazing and you can use it for chapped lips etc afterwards so not really a waste of money!

jbells · 16/04/2011 18:05

saldoozer · 16/04/2011 19:03

Loopy I know I need to be patient, it is my first baby and I've not had this much time on my hands for years and i'm just not used to it.
bonkers that sounds very exciting, hope it all goes well.

I've just been relaxing today but time seems to have slowed down the last few days Hmm

Wigeon · 16/04/2011 19:16

Rollercoasteryears - I'm planning a homebirth too (first homebirth although second labour), and in fact just today went on the Waterproof Sheet Buying Mission - I thought the decorators' sheets in Homebase (something that I've seen recommended for homebirths) just looked too flimsy (like bin bag material), so ended up getting a plastic shower curtain from Tescos, for the grand price of....£3.

We are planning on putting that down on the rug (not using a pool) and covering it with an old sheet and old towels as I will probably want lots of padding on my knees.

Sorry to hear you've had such a rubbish day Bonkerz - hope you have a more relaxing Sunday.

Rollercoasteryears · 16/04/2011 20:07

Thanks Wigeon and Pistachio - will have a look in a big supermarket for a cheap shower curtain or similar! I'd also looked at the dustsheets in Homebase and agree they look too thin and flimsy. I'd forgotten about the inco pads, the MW did mention them and I failed to write that one down...

Re scan comparisons, my results at 34+2 (so exactly the same gestation as Cazzr's and Bonkerz' last results) were as follows:
Femur length: 70mm
Head: 316mm
Abdomen: 329mm
Est. weight 2886g (6lb 6oz I think)

So looks like mine's pretty big - long and round of tummy in particular!

Jbells hope you and DP manage to have a nice evening out tonight.
