Ohh scan comparisions.. at 33+1 so a week behind Cazzr and Bonkerz she was;

Head Circum 327.6mm
Abdominal Circum 293.2mm
Femur Length 63.0mm
Est. weight 2259/ 5lb 0oz

So shes got her dads head and my body with short legs by the look of it!
Are you having another scan? I am going again at 38 weeks so looking forward to it.

Dontworry I was waiting for her to ask the lady still feeding the 5 year old and the 3 year old did she have any plans to finish? I cant see how you can judge anyone elses bond with there child breast or bottle; Would fathers that have fed with a bottle say they where more bonded because they got to feed?

cowboylover · 13/04/2011 23:00

X-Posts Jbells I hope you are ok, hugs from me x

GotArt · 14/04/2011 01:14

Jbells Get well soon. Smile

OK, maybe I do have a small pair of judgy pants on; why would you want to BF that long... 3 and 5 year olds! DD self weaned but the cut off point was going to be 2 years. When she stopped, the first thing I did was have 3 beers... in hindsight, next time I will make sure it is good beer as I got pregnant that same damn week. Grin

You all are getting late scans. I had one at 11 weeks because I'm 38 and then another at 20 weeks. That's it.

QwertyQueen · 14/04/2011 03:40

Hope you are OK now jbells? Glad all good with baby too....

I remember a lot of fumbling for the first couple of weeks trying to breastfeed when out an d about, last time round. I used to use Muslins a lot, I kinda draped them over my shoulder and baby's head - so even the gapers / gawpers couldn't see! Not that there were any - I was just very shy....

I think BFing to 5 is not right... My son is 4.5 and eats all the same food as us and is a healthy, independant little boy...

Well it is 4:30am again and I am up. We don't have TV so Mumsnet it is! Think I will have to get it before the up all times of the night feeding marathons start.

Things at home are calm - in that DH and I are not fighting - but it feels like I am living with a room mate, not a husband, he is being so distant...
anyhoo... things will happen as they should and all that, it is a stressful time for us all.

I wonder who is next to pop? I am 34 weeks today! I think they next 6 weeks are going to be very loooooooooong!

GotArt · 14/04/2011 05:43

Querty I use Surf the Channel a lot. In fact, I'm off to have a bath now and watch Weeds. The megavideo links are best, but time is limited... Youku and another Japanese one is unlimited, but sometimes the quality is shite. The thing is, is that it is free. There are lots of adds that pop up at the beginning, just close them down and then you will also see something ask you what streaming speed you want, and you just ignore it and hit the play icon. With DH, try to talk. Just chat. Smile It is a very stressful time and incredibly unstable, but that can be turned around to something fun. Also, co sleeping is a great way to combat night marathons. Grin I use to get up till one night, I passed out again while feeding and then from that night on, figured out how to feed laying down. Was such a blessing.

Jbells hope you get better soon

I am so happy and felt immediately better now I'm on maternity leave. I have a big smile and aside from a toilet visit or 2, I even got a full 7 hours sleep last night Grin

Thanks for all the advice on breastfeeding in public by the way. I didn't see the program but I was wondering if I needed to buy a whole lot of breastfeeding tops (yet more stuff to buy). I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to breastfeed as I get really bad hayfever every May-June and survive on antihistimines which aren't approved for breastfeeding. I've bought some local honey (not easy in London!) to eat every day in case there's some truth in that urban myth.

I'm very jealous of everyone who is having a scan too. Like gotart the last scan I had was at 20 weeks. I'd love to see the baby again and know that he's all ok and what size he is. But I guess a few weeks isn't so long to wait til I get to see him for real! Feels so weird knowing life is about to change!!

Bonkerz · 14/04/2011 08:08

CAZZR: im under 5 ft so baby is big for me hence the pain and struggling this close to the end!

YES leaky boobs are a pain in arse. if it wasnt so excessive im sure i could manage longer but no signs its gonna be better this time thanks to my baby nephew (started me with leaking when he was born in NOV!) Nothing more disheartening than feeding your 10 day old new born for 20 minutes and them projectile vomiting it across the room! all mummy milk gone :0( So ive set myself a realistic target and will be chuffed if i do 2 weeks.......(reverse psychology!)
YES PND was bad last time, scary thought this time but im planning ahead. am expecting it to creep in, have st johns wart in cupboard and have got some bachs rescue remedy for anxiety etc. Although if DH keeps being so darn miserable because of his anxiety im gonna scream.....despite our talk 2 weeks ago he has had a face on him for days and is now in the sulking round the house doing his look at me behaviour which infuriates me......the mutterings under his breath about how rubbish he feels and how he doesnt need 'this' right now but not telling me what 'this' is and he is now playing the victim which is something i cannot stand!

OK am off to church this morning......not out of choice....DD used her cuteness to insist i went and watched her sing in church about chicks in an incubator! LOL darn kids and their guilt trips!!!!!
School holidays start tomorrow for me as DS finishes today......lots of house arrest for me and kids cos getting out with 3 children right now is very difficult let alone adding in one child who risks having a major meltdown and needing restraining!!!!

DontWorryBaby · 14/04/2011 08:26

Loopy Kindle was my suggestion - enjoy! And join in with the mn bookclub, I really enjoy it!

JBrd · 14/04/2011 08:44

Jbells - hope all is OK now and that you feel better soon!

Still haven't seen the BF programm, I recorded it, though - will see if I get round to it today or tomorrow... But there is also the Desperate Housewives episode Grin. So glad that's back

I have to admit that I haven't given a lot of thought to the Whens and Wheres of BF - I definitively want to do it, if I can, but the practicalities of it still elude me (I'm a first timer, can you tell)... I'm hoping that that's another thing I can use the millions of muslins for that I've been given, don't really like the idea of flashing my boobs in public. But who knows - I might not care once the baby is here!

Cazzr · 14/04/2011 09:22

Quick note as posting from phone whilst enjoying lazy time in bed:
I only had the normal two scans last time but I'm taking part in the mavidos vitamin d study so part of the perk of it was a 3d scan at 34 weeks. Annoyingly tho, ds2 decided to keep his fists infront of his face like a boxer, so didn't get very good pics of his face.

That said, mw did mention having a presentation scan at 36/37 weeks in prep for homebirth so might have another yet!

Will post again later from laptop when I can drag myself away from bed,... and the Easter egg that dh threw at me before going to work (his work sent him one with his parts delivery this morning so it seems it's been donated to me!).

Re: breastfeeding tops. I lived in Bravado Tanks. They are great because they cover your tummy and look like camisoles. But word of advice: you want a light color as while I thought I was the height of chic in my black one, they showed milk Shock. Not a good look. So stick with white.

I've never had a problem b/fing in public. On airplanes, airports, Embassies, parks, churches, Temples. Grin. Just don't think about it.

B/f DD until she was 14 months. She wanted to stop. And with DS, it was 13 months, but because he was so seriously ill in Children's Hospital and nil by mouth, on a drip, ng tube, until they worked out what was wrong with him Sad. Turns out it was a severe dairy allergy, and he's still dairy allergic (and soya allergic).

Had a dreadful night last night. Just couldn't sleep despite being exhausted.

pistachio be careful with St John's Wort. I've heard that it isn't recommended for b/fing, but am happy to be wrong about that.

QwertyQueen · 14/04/2011 10:56

Thanks for the info loopy - I didn't know that - I know it is a cultural thing, and I didn't meant to sound judgemental - it is just for me I would find it so wrong...

Oh, and we do have TV - but we dont have TV channels ie: we watch DVDs - so DS has quite a collection for when we need it :D
Def a lifesaver at times.
(aren't you 3 weeks to go??)

Thanks for the link, Gotart - it looks interesting! Will check it out properly.

Thanks loopy glad you think it looks ok. Thought about putting in something about exams on me but tbh am not too fussed re I didn't find them too intrusive last time. Looks like DD definitely has slapped cheek and so do about 5 of her little friends that she... at least it means we have friends we can still play with! Very Envy of the kindle, enjoy!

jbells hope you are feeling a bit better x

Hello to everyone else - am feeling a bit wooly headed today after DD was up for 2 hours last night and ended up in bed with us. I love the snuggles but it doesn't make for a relaxing night's sleep!

Yorkstar · 14/04/2011 13:30

Hi all, gosh this thread is moving fast now.

All is ok here i think, on the subject of late scans i am having one this afternoon as they are concerned that baby is slow growing based on fundal height measurements. I am 38 + 1 today. I am not overly concerned as i had to have a growth scan with my ds at this stage who was smallish but not tiny at 6Ib 13 at term.

A little bit TMI but is anyone else suffering from piles? I am in such a lot of pain, especially as the day progresses and i spend more time on my feet. I try to sit down when i can but it bloody hurts to sit down. Am treating with cream but have to admit that i am a bit concerned about what pushing a baby out will do to my piles too. Ouch!!

Runningmonkey we were also up for 2 hours last night with ds - a little indication of what's to come eh!

Re: breastfeeding in public - it took me a few weeks to feel confident and comfortable with breastfeeding ds, at first i had to take my whole top off as could not manage it in any more of a subtle way :o but over time, you learn how to cover up more discretely and breastfeeding in public is not a problem - especially when your little one becomes a pro at latching on easily too.

Liking the names of the new suggested May thread titles :o

kiwigirlinlondon · 14/04/2011 14:59

Thanks for the info Pistachio. The doctor has given me a nasal spray to use while pregnant and in breastfeeding and said to me "try that and see what happens". But actually that link says the medicine I normally take (Fexofenadine) has low levels of transfer so maybe under doctor's supervision it'll be ok. I'm hopeful.

My sister had bad PND and couldn't breastfeed because of the antidepressants and then the baby got colic and cried all the time - I only stayed with her for 2 weeks but it was a nightmare - and it certainly didnt help her PND. So I'm really keen to breastfeed to lower the risk of colic and the baby crying all the time! Especially after I found out that I can still have a glass of wine and breastfeed :)

kiwigirlinlondon · 14/04/2011 15:05

runningmonkey seeing your birth plan was very helpful, thanks! Im just writing mine at the moment to talk through with my doula tomorrow

jbells · 14/04/2011 15:17

Hi everyone im finally bk at home cant wait to sleep in my own bed tonite. Thanks for all your messages i did try to update u all this morning but tje internet connexion on my fone wss rybbish. Turns out that the vomiting was caused by a bad water infection that had spread to my kidneys. They dosed me up on antibiotics and gave me an antisickness injevtion as i was very dehydrsyed and cudnt keep fluids down which really helped. I can totally relate to y people want a home birth it is so isolated and horrible stuck in there and constantly listening to screaming babies thru the nite is not gud. Main thing is baby is fine and im feelung ten times better

right now to catch up with all the news :)

jbells · 14/04/2011 15:27

Since then he has bin much nicer i dont know wot to blieve :( it just all seems very out of character Confused

Pistatio. Wow almost fully engaged :) wot date r u due. My midwives yest wernt sure on position of lil one they vudnt tell whether bum was head and vice versa

jbells · 14/04/2011 15:35

Sesame. Great news that your baby has turned :)

Kiwi. My dd had colic and it was a nitemare so if breastfeeding helps i am looking forward to trying lol

gingerwench · 14/04/2011 16:52

hi all

I BF DS until he was 2.1 I only planned to exclusively BF to 6 months but he was really really still v keen and it seemed less hassle than moving to bottles. And then it just went on, I was more than ready to stop when he was 1 but it seemed so traumatic for him, and he was dropping feeds naturally so just morning and night and I thought continuing was less stressful for all. Towards the end it wasn't even every night. At 2, i found that he had so much more understanding, and wanted to be thought of as a "big boy" so I forced the issue a little and told him that once we were on holiday there was no more "mummy milk". He sobbed the first night I refused and it was heart-rending. But a few days later it was a complete non-issue.

With #2 I hope that I manage to BF as successfully as with DS1 but I know there are no guarantees. I'd like to give #2 the same opportunity but I'd be more than happy if he/she decides to stop earlier than 2!

I did drink whilst BF but only once did I think "eek had a bit much" and worry about it. Fingers crossed DS was unaffected but feel a bit guilty about it (I was completely trolleyed on a bottle of wine and I had forgotten I'd be BF the next morning).

BF in public definitely gets easier the more you do it. It's good to go with a group of other newbies to a BF-friendly cafe or similar just to get over the first time.

Yes to the piles Yorkstar. I survived pregnancy last time without any, just one popped out during labour. About a month ago I realised I had one. Think two now. Using cream and not that bothered by them other than finding them a truly revolting idea and worried about what bunch of grapes I'll get as a result of pushing #2 out.

I finish work tomorrow. Can't wait. Waddling like a great bit Easter Egg (36 weeks today).

runningmonkey · 14/04/2011 17:01

Glad you're home and sorted out with ab's etc jbells

yorkstar sorry to hear you were up too.

piles here too. Was recommended germoloids by a friend as it has an anasthetic in it too - seems to be doing trick atm. Apparently you can get it on prescription I just haven't been bothered to get a GP appt!

Back from mw. Measuring bang on for dates and she reckoned head 2/5 engaged Shock. Best news is that she was really happy with my birthplan and told me that in her professional opinion there is no reason for me not to birth in the MLU and has written a big note to that effect on the front of my notes :o

Right, teatime for DD and me x
