Hey all. Had mw this morning and everything fine, measuring just right for dates. Took blood so will hear by the end of the week if anything is not right. Have finally managed to get hold of someone on the physio booking line and made an appt for next week which I've now realised is half term Hmm Might have to see if I can convince a friend to have my dc for an hour for me!

I've had 3 hospital births, 1st one was a bit of a nightmare with an epidural that didn't really work and being confined to the bed throughout due to dd's heartbeat dipping so needing to be monitored. Both boys were much easier though and managed with just gas & air and didn't even want that when things got going. I read loads before having ds2 (had a fear of being made to lie on bed again, my contractions hurt mostly in my back, think all 3 have been back to back, so lying down is worst possible thing) and knew exactly what was happening when and can actually say I enjoyed it and found it a very positive experience. Although it did hurt like fuck!!
The mw who did my booking in this time when I was in hospital asked about home birth and I said I was thinking about it but wasn't sure but no one has mentioned anything about it since! I think though home birth seems like a lot of hassle TBH, my bedroom is too small so wouldn't know where I could lie down if I needed to, would worry about having to have house all tidy, wouldn't know what to do with kids, wouldn't know where to put birth pool (which I would def want as would be my main reason for having a homebirth!) so I think I'll have a hospital birth as it just seems simpler and I know where I am with it. Plus if I was at home dp would prob and up watching TV or playing COD throughout, at least in a hospital there are no other distractions!!

Re coming home, with my 1st I had to really argue to be let home, she was born at 7:14am on the Monday and I came home at about 5pm on the tues after asking all day! But I think that was due to epidural and that dd and I had both had slight raised temp after she was born, and it was 10 years ago when things were a bit different. Both the boys were born at night time and I came home around midday the following day. My friend's 16yo dd had a baby last year though and I dropped her at the hospital at about 1:30pm, baby was born an hour later and she was home before 9pm Shock I think they kick you out a bit sooner these days than they used to but I presume only if you're happy with that.

Pesha · 05/04/2011 14:41

My baby appears to have got bored of lying nicely where he was and just kicking and poking me and has today decided to shift his entire body around, repeatedly! Its making me quite breathless and seems to be triggering some rather painful braxton hicks.

Eglu · 05/04/2011 16:42

Hi all. I'm off to my Mums for a few days tomorrow, as its the Easter Holidays here. Hopefully my Mum will get up with the boys and I'll get a bit of rest.

Interesting to see people thinking about their birth plans. I'm going for my second home birth. I would be petrified of trying to get to hospital in active labour, due to previous fast births. My main worry is the mw not getting here in time, or it happening when I'm home alone with the boys.

Must go and book my 28 week mw appointment for next week, I keep forgetting.

Twit · 05/04/2011 18:30

Just keep telling them all that you're fast (like me), I got unlucky with DS3 but they came as soon as I asked them to with DD and stayed the whole 2 hours... (well, it was 2nd Jan so we had lots of wine food to offer) Have a lovely time - I'm supposed to be taking DS3 for his jabs tomorrow but he's come down with ANOTHER cough so I don't know now.

scarthy1975 · 05/04/2011 20:09

Hi all, its a sign we are getting closer to D Day if we're talking about birth plans. My plan with ds was a water birth and no pain relief. In the end I got to 5cm and was told he was in distress and had emergency c section. Had him on Friday and was home on Sunday!

I have the choice this time and I really don't know what to do - currently thinking i'll go vbac but it changes weekly.

jimmy i hired a tens machine and tbh didn't find it did anything other then give me a funny sensation on my back - could have been that dh didn't put it on right though.

Anyone else having vbac?

Fraochsmum · 05/04/2011 21:01

jimmy that is something I thought of before DD was born too - I really felt I would be more relaxed etc waiting at home as long as poss. As it turns out, when I thought I should get to hospital (or rather when my mum thought I should), I had been fully dilated for about 20 mins. Thankfully I had no urge to push, but at least I know how it feels for this time. The midwife had a good giggle at my tens machine packed in my case Smile
I had DD just before 8am and would have been out in a couple of hours if I hadn't retained the goddamn placenta Angry

Will try and read more posts tomorrow and catch up on all the news xxx

buttonmoon78 · 05/04/2011 21:23

Back again - op went well and ds can now hear again. For how long is another matter!

Ok, births:

DD1 - 41wks spontaneous labour, 15hrs 21mins, G&A, episiotomy, stitches
DD2 - 39+4 spontaneous labour, ?OP?, 22hrs 28mins, G&A, pethidine (work of the devil!), episiotomy, stitches
DS1 - 38wks, induced at 9am, labour really began about 2-3pm, born 11.35pm, OP with arm extended by face, tear and labial graze (hellishly painful - from being raked by ds's nails all the way down), G&A

All in hospital. If I asked for a homebirth they'd probably go into shock. And then laugh at me. I don't do swift and I don't do uncomplicated. I nearly ended up with an emcs with ds as his heart rate was plummeting with each contraction and failing to get back up to normal quickly enough. Turns out (when they scanned me) that he was holding onto his cord. So every time I contracted, he squeezed his own blood supply. Hmm

So as far as this one goes - I'm assuming hospital, induced, hopefully not back to back. I can't remember whether it was here or on another thread but someone said that when they went in for induction they had the apparatus put in for an epidural there and then so it was just a question of putting the drugs in when they were needed. To me, that sounds like a fine idea. I've no intention of begging anyone for an epidural which never comes like last time. Nor of fighting them off giving me pethidine because the epi was never going to come.

I'd love a simple labour with a few hours of contractions but somehow I don't think it's going to happen. And this def being the last, I'm not going to keep going until I get one!

buttonmoon78 · 05/04/2011 21:26

And as for staying in - pah. Not if I can help it...

DD1 - born 15.21, home at 11.00 next day
DD2 - born 22.28, home at 11.30 next day
DS1 - born 23.35, home 03.25 next day - best yet: we all went to bed and slept til gone 10 that morning, woke feeling mighty refreshed

It was difficult tho trying to get out of the hospital. MW said 'but it's cold'. DH said 'we have this great invention in our car - heating, and we have something similar in our house'. Strangely she didn't see the funny side Grin

Pesha · 05/04/2011 22:16

Button I am cringing at your scraping his nails all the way down comment! Eek, I think that may haunt me! I also agree that pethidine is horrible stuff, I had it with dd before the epidural and felt like all the worst bits of being drunk with none of the benefits and I don't recall it helping with the pain either, it just made me feel completely out of control. I think having the pethidine was the start of that labour officially becoming a Bad Experience.

Am having a bad day today. Blaming hormones! Feeling overwhelmed by all the things I should be doing or should have done and I haven't and can't face. Too tired for anything. Also phone rang this evening and I stupidly thought it might be my mum, fuck knows why, and even more pathetically was disappointed when it wasn't. Gah. Pregnancy completely knocks the hard faced bitch right out of me, does it every time Angry Although it increases the moody bitch in me which my dd seems to be clashing with quite a bit lately, I am trying so hard not to snap and not to be negative all the time with her but the way she talks to me and dp and the boys is just so fucking rude and it drives me absolutely bloody bananas, its not what she says but how she says it all and I'm sick of having the same bloody arguments and saying the same sodding things to her all the time and I know I'm not handling it right and I need to change but my god she pushes all my buttons. And shes only 10 ffs, what the hell is she gonna be like when shes a teenager?!

And breathe!

Sorry for rant Blush Will snap out of this soon. Nice to be able to rant and vent on here though!!

firstsupermum · 05/04/2011 22:48

hi everyone,
anyone live in w12 london, and this is second baby? let me know, as it will be very interesting.

Fab123 · 05/04/2011 23:35

I'm opting for a water birth at my birthing centre with gas and air.
That is the plan, anyhooo...
I'm 45mins away from the hospital where I can have a c-section or epidural, so lets hope it works that way!
Anyone got any advice on the relationship front: Meddling friend has now apparently told ex that all I am interested in is his money. Tbh I wasn't even going to ask him for any until SHE suggested it and insisted, sending me links about my rights and to work out CSA payments etc. I raised it with him as a Q today as he was talking again about access and he said he should have listened to her when she said that was all I was interested in. It's made me more determined to get it from him tbh as they still email daily and the sly cow has now made out that it was MY idea!!! I've told him if he will continue listen to her then I might as well get it, seeing as she has so kindly sent me all of the links on how to get it, he only has her to blame for my change of heart.

How can I get her to butt out? Am annoyed that he is still keeping her around tbh and have blocked her on FB now and told her weeks ago I don't want any more to do with her. I don't really want any contact at all with her. When he told her he wouldn't talk about me to her any more (after I asked him to respect my privacy) he said she went mental! He's also said she's been pointing fingers, bitching and gossiping about me to him. Who the hell does she think she is?! They've never even met!

Making me very Angry

nicolamumof3 · 06/04/2011 13:40

she sounds like an oddball fab, you are well rid there. He can't get out of paying for his child, or I hope you can't at least.

Pesha i understand your pain, my ds1 is 12 next week can be hard going. All my boys seemed liked monsters yday and i had a day of struggling too. Today things are good. Had a lovely morning at park with dh and ds3 then we just went to pizza express, sat outside in the sunshine and had a lovely lunch. Im now on the sofa feet up feeling shattered!! Will sit in the garden and have an icecream later before school run i think. DS3 at nursery its all peaceful.

Got my GTT date through 29th April..bloody bank hols can you believe it!

buttonmoon78 · 06/04/2011 18:02

What a wierdo Fab. I must admit, I don't envy you having to juggle everything you have to at the moment, and that's even before you add in pg emotions/hormones.

Pesha I did a hell of a lot more than wince afterwards, I can tell you. You know how when you do a wee in the first few days they say to tip forwards so the stream goes forward and away from your stitches? If I did that it went all over the graze. I couldn't win! In the end my mum would run me a bath every time I needed a wee and I would sit in it to do the wee then shower everything clean below waist afterwards! It was a total palaver.

I think I agree with you about peth. Although #3 was the 'worst' labour, #2 is my personal worst IYKWIM? From the minute it hit my system, all I remember is one long contraction as I kept passing out between them. I can also vividly remember being hysterical when dd1 was delivered because she had a little gunk in her lungs and needed suction. When dd2 was delivered, she was navy blue, nor circ, no hb, no resps - she scored 1 on the initial apgar and needed rescusitation. And I could not have cared less. I was soooo very far away that if she had not made it I honestly think I wouldn't have cared one jot initially because of the way peth made me feel. I went cold for months afterwards every time I thought about that. Still makes me feel funny now, so I will never touch the stuff again.

Funnily enough though, I've had other opiates with no issue, and my friend swears by it in labour! I think it must be a drug which causes v personal reactions.

Been loving the sunshine today. I'm hoping it's here to stay. My back garden looks like a jungle and would benefit from a couple of hours hard work but I'm not doing it in the cold and wet!

buttonmoon78 · 06/04/2011 18:04

And don't talk to me about teenage hormones... dd1 is 13.5. Started her periods in Oct. Has the most immense PMT going on which lasts from about a week after her last period and ends the day she starts the next ie nearly forever. DD2 threatened to move out the other day (she's 11). Grin

Between me and dd1 the place is so full of hormones it's untrue Grin

cara2244 · 06/04/2011 22:50

Buttonmoon I had a similar tear by the sounds of it, tiny sharp fingernails on the way out, ouch. Many stitches and weeing in the bath!! My LOs birth was a dream until afterwards. No drugs at all or intervention during labour, but had bleeding, then had to have the injection to stop it, gas and air then stitches lol!!
I think eating less cheese this time is the answer, to encourage less fingernail growth.

buttonmoon78 · 07/04/2011 07:33

Oh, bugger it. I've been drinking a pint of milk a day so I can stop relying so heavily on rennies etc.

This one is quite obviously going to have talons. Grin

Fab123 · 07/04/2011 19:13

Still wondering where Confuddled is - anyone heard from her? She's not on the FB page either...

I'm blatantly ignoring the talk of nails. Ex told me he did the same to his Ma. Let's hope it's not genetic .

Had a 4 mile round trip walk to the Post Office today to collect some eBay parcels I missed when I was painting shelves in the garden yesterday. Loving this weather!!!

Anyone out there had a loss of appetite recently? I am struggling with my 2 slices of fruit toast for brekkie, ham and cheese sarnie with loads of spinach for lunch and then a plate of pasta with veg or beans and toast for dinner...squeeze in an apple or a banana and I feel really quite sick by the end of the day with heartburn galore at bedtime, seemingly no matter when I eat last Hmm. First trimester I'd probably have eaten the lot by 2pm Wink. I wonder if it's the weather or if anyone else has felt the same? I know i'm not exactly starving myself so not massively worried, but reading all the books has me thinking I should be guzzling meat pies with whole tubs of ice cream on a daily basis... True?

nicolamumof3 · 07/04/2011 20:16

Evening all another v warm sunny day here got bit burnt yday actually. Fab I
Not eating so much as I was appetite does change a the time... Like everything else!! Also wondering on confuddled

Want2bSupermum · 07/04/2011 20:26

Fab - I have the same problem. I was really worried and obn said it was normal as the baby is now squeezing the stomach. My dietician (low weight gain throughout the pregnancy so obn sent me for help sorting my diet out) has me eating lots of things like nuts, dried fruit (figs are my fav), veg and protein.

For the heartburn I have found sleeping upright helps a lot as does finishing off every meal with chocolate!

Fab123 · 07/04/2011 21:37

Ah, makes sense. Have followed your advice want2be and had a Snickers ice cream - nuts and chocolate in one fell swoop Grin

cara2244 · 07/04/2011 22:22

Fab I have the opposite problem - could've killed my OH earlier as I thought he'd eaten my creme egg. I then realised it had rolled behind the remote control.

Want2bSupermum · 07/04/2011 22:44

Oh I miss creme eggs and mini eggs. I love my dietician. She told me that no one finds heartburn too bad when chocolate was the last thing you ate. It makes sense that if you are going to have a food repeat on you a dozen times an hour it is best for it to be chocolate!

SpannerPants · 08/04/2011 08:57

Hello ladies, just catching up as I've had a horrendous D&V bug this week. Finally feeling human again, in time for my birthday today Grin

It was a bit scary actually as I started having loads of braxton hicks, went from 10 in 3 hours to every 5 mins! I rang labour ward and they were really nice, said it was pretty common because the excess movement of the intestines makes the uterus irritable, and being dehydrated would make it worse. Luckily it settled down fairly quickly but for a couple of hours I thought Bob was going to make a very premature arrival.

I've definitely noticed that I can't eat as much as I used to be able to, and I'm getting heartburn more frequently. Unfortunately chocolate makes my heartburn worse so I'm sticking to my chewable rennies.

buttonmoon78 · 08/04/2011 10:33

You'd better not live anywhere near me Spanner. I nearly had a meltdown in Tesco on Monday as they were out of the chewable ones and I hate that aftertaste you get with the chalky ones [boak] Lovin' 'Bob' though! Glad you're feeling better.

I find chocolate not too bad, but chocolate oranges are no good. I find that if I drink a glass of milk at night before bed that staves off too much acid.

I've seen confuddled on a few other threads - she's probably just prioritising her time a bit. I hope so anyway, and we've not said anything to upset her!

inbetweener · 08/04/2011 11:17

Morning all,
Whoo-hoo Im 25 weeks lol Grin
I love watching the weeks go by, getting evry scary though.
Its my last day of work today for 2 and a bit weeks ! I cant wait for some lovely lie-ins. My 2 girls have been so lovely lately telling me to rest and running round doing jobs for me. My 7 year old ( dd2 ) said to me last night " thank you for having a baby mummy cos I really wanted us to have one " awwwwwww. So i am looking forward to this easter break and just spending some time with them. When I get back i shall be 28 weeks eeeeeeeek !!!

I seem to have sprouted a massive bump and I agree with the not being able to eat as much, although I appear to be having a bloody good go !!!!!!!! I''m SO SO hungry all the time ! i fully intend to get the kids to bed tonight and have a chinese and snuggle Grin with DH. The poor man has been a bit neglected lately as I have been so tired and not at all in the mood, so I think its time to make him feel better lol lol.
