Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

ILTMIMI I don't think you need to let them actually do the crawling bit. Just lie back, plonk the baby somewhere near your boobs and let them get on with it.

Karoleann · 02/03/2011 14:42

Jo - glad to hear Connor's doing okay - hope your recovery isn't too long
Gormers - Hope Eva continues to thrive and you both get home soon.
Kittwins - poor you.

I'm just back from a check up and luckily everything's fine, no longer breech which is great. I'm also booked for my induction (I've been induced as late every time!!) on the 26th April so 40+5/7 depending on which EDD I use.

I found bfing painful initially with both - latch was fine it just takes a while for your nipples to toughen up. I found biting on a wooden spoon helped. I'm not a huge fan of breastfeeding, but its so much easier initially when they feed so often - plus makes them sleepy!!

Petalouda · 02/03/2011 15:06

Afternoon All,

Kit hope things settle down for you - good luck with everything.

Breastfeeding group was good - they actually mentioned the crawling-up-to-the-breast thing. And seemed to cover everything in quite a well-balanced way. Seeing the childrens centre was helpful too.

However, at the end, nearly all of us went to the loo, and when I came out - they'd all gone! I was about to suggest going for a coffee & swapping numbers. But suddenly I was abandoned. Maybe it's my radiant personality that's put them off! (and I tried so hard not to be awkward!).

Oh well! I'm sure I'll bump into them, it's only a very small town.

Most interestingly, the midwife assistant who was running it asked me at the end "when are you due again?" (I think because I'd been rubbing my belly & rocking a little bit through all the BH's I was having!) and went on to imply that she thought I looked pretty imminent (although I should wait till sunday night, as that's when she would next be in the MLU!).

I would like to have this baby fairly soon, but we must wait till he's Full Term on Friday!

(I'll be waiting to be induced in 5 weeks time now, you wait!)

lucielooo · 02/03/2011 15:18

Hi Petalouda - was it an NCT class? I think the class leader usually sends everyones details around afterwards if it is? If it wasn't they might be able to organise something like that anyway?

Interesting what the mw said.. Any prolonged absences will be noted!! :)

On an unrelated note - I am definitely struggling with baby brain. The new (young) man in our office was asking me how babies breathe in the womb and I told him they had gills. Hmm I genuinely believed this to be the correct answer.. after a moment of silence the penny dropped and I remembered about the whole oxygen in the blood/placenta business. No-one corrected me though Confused! I seriously hope my baby doesn't come out with gills!!!

LisMcA · 02/03/2011 15:32

Wowsers! Lots to catch up on today! I need to make notes to remember what I want to say!

Gormers Congratulations, sounds like little Eva is doing well. Hope she is home soon (16th is my due date hard to imagine my wee boy being here alread). BTW did you meet the Sister from OBEM, the one that says Botheration :o That is my new child friendly swearword!!

Kitstwins Jeepers lady! You hang in there, fingers and legs crossed for you.

BF virgin here ladies, what is "let down"??

And finally, my question of the day! Reflexology, anyone had it. My midwife suggested I look into it to help with my discomfort. The dihydrocodine I've been given is great, but it breaks my heart when I take it as I can feel Buster slow down, so I'm looking at alternatives. I've emailed a lady who comes to your house and she is coming round for a consultation to make sure I'm suitable. And my MW will have to sign off on it before I can have the treatment. If you have had it did it, what did you have if for and did it work? Or was it just a nice foot massage?

I always seem to have questions for you ladies! All I seem to contribute to the thread are silly typos!!

:o

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 02/03/2011 15:33

lucie Grin

I bet that shut him up! No need to tell anyone except us you actually meant it at the time. If anyone brings it up again you can just laugh it off and say you were seeing how gullible he is.

petal if you go into labour we want to know! Preferably via live updates!

OP posts:
Petalouda · 02/03/2011 15:43

lucie it was a bog-standard nhs session run jointly by the local MLU and the Childrens Centre. The childrens centre took all our details, so maybe they'll share them.

And I agree with Frak, you could totally get away with claiming you were being facetious(sp?)!

If I do go into labour - I'll totally let you all know! If it's long (like my mum's were) then I'll be all over the internet reading/posting/watching iPlayer, I should imagine. But if it's quick (like my sister) then I'll just hop on my phone and let you know as much as I can!

I'm not good at keeping things to myself, but at the same time will be resisting telling too much in RL, so I won't be facebooking it. And I haven't decided yet whether to let my mum know when it kicks off or not. She lives 3 hours away and would be here like a shot! She knows I've reserved the right to decide later!

Is it wrong to fancy a bath at 15:45?!

AprilMeadow · 02/03/2011 15:48

Wow, Congratulations Gormers on the arrival of baby Eva. I hope that she continues to get stronger and is home as close to her edd as poss.

Kits, eek, hope it all slows down for you and that baby hangs on a few more weeks.

Lucie, LOVE the idea of baby having gills and that no one questioned it :)

Just been for my 36wk check and have a presentation scan this Friday as the mw couldnt decide if he was head or bottom down. She has tried to sell me the idea of a breech delivery, to which i have said a very strong NO!!

Currently on anti-biotics for a chest infection that is triggering my asthma. Am having to make frequent dashes to the loo for fear of wetting myself when coughing!!

lucielooo · 02/03/2011 15:48

Except it was followed by me shouting THAT'S A LIE SUCH A LIE! WHAT AM I THINKING :) Blush

And definitely not wrong to fancy a bath at 15.45.. as long as you're at home I'd treat yourself if you can :)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/03/2011 15:50

Let down is the initial gush of milk at the beginning of each feed - it's also known as the milk ejection reflex, which better describes it I think.

Some people have a fast let down, some have a painful one initially and some people don't feel it at all.

I seem to get the last two. It's painful to start with then after a week or so I don't feel it at all. However I have felt it when I was no longer feeding and saw a newborn being bf'd by its mum

Lol at gills Grin

AussieMum2Be · 02/03/2011 16:00

Hi all,

JOEW Glad to hear your doing well, hope you and little Connor are home soon

Petal Huge Birthday bumps to you for yesterday

Cycle I also get the tube daily, that guys sounds lovely, wish there were more of him around !!

Alibaba Thanks for muslin cloth tip for matress, i have bought loads so definately will use a additional matress sheet.

Kitstwins Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Gormers Congrats on your little girl, hope your both enjoying each other, and you get home soon.

Well I had my MW appointment today, BP fine, protein in urine but Ive had that every sample, she took another test for iron as i was a little low last time but im only measuring about 29/30 cms and im 34 weeks so should be at least 32cms so she wants me to go for a scan next week to check babys ok. So feeling a little worried now, and trying to not get panicky or upset. Wish i didnt have to wait a week to find out if she's all ok, only bonus will be that we get to have a scan and see our little girl again before she arrives

Anyone else had experience in measuring small ?

Cyclebump · 02/03/2011 16:20

Gosh! I'm off MN for two minutes and it's all go!

Gormers Congratulations! I hope Eva Rose is home soon and continues to get stronger every day.

Kits I so hope they get it all under control and you can hold on til you're ready.

Everyone else Good to hear all the BFing tips. I'm really keen to give it a go so all help welcome!

I had my group antenatal physio this morning. Very informative although, as usual I was the only possible ELCS and the only one with SPD so I sounded like a right moaner Blush

Really nice ladies but, again, everyone had to rush off afterwards! At least everyone was super friendly and it was quite light-hearted. I set us off giggling during role play by growling 'This is all your fault!' at my 'partner' when we were practising partner massage during labour and the mood stayed buoyant Smile

NotAnotherNewNappy · 02/03/2011 16:51

Lis - I had one session of reflexology on my EDD to bring on labour with DD1. Later that evening I had a show and she was born at 11.48am the next day. So I'd say, yes, it's quite effective Grin

It's not really a nice footrub though - more of a funny foot poke.

I also suffered with let down pain the first few weeks and would try to breathe through it. Ouch at wooden spoon!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 02/03/2011 16:52

Aussie it depends how baby's lying. Transverse babies measure v small (but that should be picked up on by your MW and compensated for anyway.

BeetleBaby · 02/03/2011 18:01

Yikes, another busy day!

Gormers it's good to hear from you and I hope baby Eva Rose keeps getting stronger and is home soon.

Kits I hope you're ok and keeping your legs crossed!

Petal no, a bath at at any time is never wrong! Though I do find I prefer baths when it's dark and have no idea why Hmm Oh, and Happy belated Birthday

Aussie a friend of mine who is also due in April was sent for a scan today to check baby's growth as she was measuring small. The sonographer said that there were no problems at all and if anything she should be preparing for the baby to be on the big side. I'm sure you'll be fine too Smile

Lucie Grin Grin Grin tee hee: gills!

I feel like I had more to say... but can't remember what! Blush

JustKeepSwimming · 02/03/2011 18:10

I am totally behind but here goes:

Gormers - weren't you on the JSing thread? Congrats on baby Eva, sorry to hear she had to come so early, hope you & her recover well & she gets to come home soon - but not before you've been shopping :)

Kitstwins - scary, hope labour stops and you get to go home for at least 2 more weeks.

Um, gills - PMSL Grin

BF questions - definitely find details of where & when your nearby bf support groups are, my group def saved me & DS1 (he had tongue-tie, not picked up, and it blardy hurt to bf).

I get a very strong let-down, like pins and needles in your nipples, sort of. I could get it from other babies crying, my babies crying (made controlled crying later on a challenge, lol!), almost anything in fact. I was a big leaker and wore breast pads the whole time i was bf & some of DS2's pg too. Not leaked anywhere near as much this pg...yet.

I did school run, then bath & bed for 2 hours this morning, so if you can go for it i say!
(DS2 up at 4.50 today, yawn)

Off to London to see Les Mis tomorrow with DH, staying the night in a hotel which is nuts really as i'm sure i won't sleep well in a different bed, and lie-ins don't exactly happen when i need a wee/get hungry! Hope the show is good though.

(piles are under control for now, i will get round to seeing a doc at some point but not had time so far this week)

kittycatcat · 02/03/2011 18:45

jks les mis is brilliant! Have a great time.

1stTimeMother · 02/03/2011 19:20

wow it is all go on here....

Gormers congratulations on the birth of Eva Rose and great that she's doing so well. Must have been a very scary time for you all but big cheery hugs being sent your way as you all get stronger!

Kits hope you're doing ok & baby stays put a bit longer!

I just continue with the discomfort and ever growing terror at the prospect of giving birth... and all that's still to come. Feel like there's so much to learn.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 19:28

I had painful letdown too, and actually until DS was about 2 months old BFing was quite painful - just the first 15-20 seconds while he got going. Real grit your teeth stuff!
After that it was fine though, more than fine it was brilliant and we kept going until he was 2 and I got pregnant again.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/03/2011 20:13

Enjy Les Mis JKS, I hope you and dh enjoy your time together.

Did you stop bf'ing when you became pg Ali? I stopped a few months before I got pg again and I'm glad I did actually. Just the thought of bf'ing when suffering from MS makes me feel a bit green around the gills. Don't answer if you find my question too nosey Blush

I remember the grit your teeth stuff, my whole body would tense for the first 10 seconds of a feed, then I would have to make myself relax again when the feed was under way. Funnily enough I was talking to a friend who has 6 children (!) and she said she didn't get the letdown pain with all of hers, just something like with number 1,2 and 4 - so quite random.

She also reminded me about the afterpains

JustKeepSwimming · 02/03/2011 20:15

Afterpains, oh yes

Les Mis is a late Christmas present, meant to have booked it since Christmas then ahd a sudden panic that i wouldn't get it in pre-baby. Not sure 33wks is the best time to go but hey.
And my DB has this friday off so is joining us for a late brunch :)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 20:36

ILike - not too nosy at all Grin I did stop BFing when I became pg, but more by accident than design. I think my milk dried up pretty quickly - DS actually had his last feed 2 days after his 2nd birthday when I was 5 weeks. It had become excruciating since falling pg though, so in lots of ways I was glad that he stopped of his own accord.
He remembers being BF though, and asks about 'mik-mok' sometimes. We have explained that the baby will have it when it comes to live with us and I think he is ok with that. If he wanted to try and latch I would let him, although I am fairly sure that he will have lost his latch. I will definitely express some for him if he wants me to - and if he gets a tummy bug then I would give him BM to drink ahead of anything else. Having said that he's only ever had one tummy bug in his life so far :)

JKS - that sounds lovely, enjoy! :)

Karoleann · 02/03/2011 20:57

Aussie I always measure small - I'm 33 weeks and measure 28 wks. Babies have been normal sizes too 8lb 4oz and 7lb 8oz.
Still look huge by 40 wks though

gormers · 02/03/2011 21:16

Awww, schucks - thanks guys. I should have probably put out a warning that I'm highly emotional so if you're nice to me I'll cry!

JKS - I am a Just Shagger (although not for what seems a very very long time!!) & have posted on the grads thread there too. Good to catch up with everyone after so long.

LisMcA - Sister Botheration is great! She wasn't one of my midwives, but she was around a lot, and is exactly the same in real life!

Lucieloo - I am loving the gills! Brilliant!! Do you think I should speak to the doctors in NICU tomorrow, and with a very serious straight face suggest that Eva's breathing was probably so much better when she was using her gills!! Wink The reaction on their faces would brighten the day up!

kitstwins - hoping all's going ok for you.xx

Liv77 · 02/03/2011 22:07

Aussie I had a 35 week scan today with my ob and discovered I am also measuring small, approx 32/33 weeks.

The growth on my customised chart has now dropped to below the 10th centile.
I'm not worrying about it, baby is moving around as usual. My Ob scanned the placenta and the blood flow is fine. DS wasn't a huge baby at 6lb 15oz, so even if this baby stays under the 10th centile as it is now if it stays on the same curve it will still be bigger than DS Confused
I'm to see the Ob again at 39 weeks but he did say the main reason he'd see my again was to stop the midwifes from panicking Grin

Gormers and Kits ditto everyone else's good wishes. Keep us posted Smile

I agree that the next thread title should definately contain yoda balls and baby gills.
