Took it upon myself to start a new thread. Everyone's popping right now!

PS: Sorry for the awful rhyme, it was all I could think of Blush

Evening all :)

Here is my Birth Story (sorry it's quite long!):

I went in on Friday morning to the Day Assesment Unit for monitoring due to high blood pressure and continuing blood loss. I showed them my pad and was admitted straight away.... I had a canula inserted in case the blood loss increased dramatically. I saw the SHO who said I would be going for a scan first thing in the morning.

9am Saturday - consultant does his rounds and comes to see me - says blood loss is worrying and I need to deliver the baby as soon as possible - asked if I agree to be induced - I said yes of course and he says I am the first on the list to go down to the delivery suite. I have a shower, pack up and we go down at about 10am.

Midwife shows us to our room and explains that the consultant wants to examine me himself becuase of the PV loss but he is now in surgery so we wait until he comes at around 11.30am. He explains the different options and proceeds to try and break my waters. I am already 2-3cm so he does it no problem and that is that! He says I have two hours to go and have a walk / get some lunch and then they will start the synto drip as they don't want to hang about.

Nothing happens in the 2 hours so at 2pm the anaesthetist is called and I have an epidural at around 2.30pm. The drip is also started at the same time. By 4.30pm I am contracting 4-5 in 10 minutes but obviously not in any pain or anything.

The baby's heartbeat starts to drop during contractions and takes a while to recover so the doctor is called but says all ok for now. This happens throughout my labour and the doctor is in and out. I was also given some drugs (can't remember what) in case I need to go to theatre and the team is put on stand-by (bet they loved me!).

I had a little sleep maybe from 7-8pm and DH had something to eat (I was advised not to eat / only drink water).

At around 8.30 I start to feel I need a poo and that the pressure of the contractions is very uncomfortable despite the epidural but I keep quiet. I wonder to myself if I am nearly there but don't want to tempt fate!
I suddenly feel sick but MW gets a bowl very quickly - thankfully had not eaten since about 1pm so it was only fluids.
At 9pm the feeling is so strong I tell my MW I really feel the urge to push - she examines me and the head is right there so she says to go for it. I start pushing at about 9.15ish and push through 4-5 contractions - 2/3 long pushes through each and my baby is born at 9.34pm.

Baby was not breathing initially so DH could not cut the cord and he is whisked away - there is a bit of panic and the pead is called. They give him oxygen and eventually all is well and he is given to DH for a cuddle. In the meantime I have delivered the placenta and they have pronounced me intact with no need for stitching :) I have a cuddle with the baby and try to feed him.

Because of my blood loss pre-delivery they do not want to leave us alone (fair enough) immediately after delivery but lights are dimmed and we have some bonding time.

I stupidly eat a chicken tikka sandwich which I bought earlier Hmm and am promptly sick - luckily DH was very quick with the sick bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My blood pressure and loss are monitored for a couple of hours and all is ok so we transfer up to the postnatal ward at around midnight. I cannot feel my legs yet so DH unpacks me some things I might need during the night and goes off home to sleep. The MWs are great and say to call when I need the loo and not to get up on my own.

I try to sleep but so awake so just stare at DS who is sleeping in the cot. I think I fed him once again but only for 5 mins or so and he went back off to sleep. I dropped off myself then until about 3am when I woke up for the loo. Can feel my legs by now but call MW anyway and she is happy to help me get up. Leaked blood all over the sheets / my clothes so I go to loo and get changed and MW chages the sheets for me. Then I went to sleep until 7am when they came round with breakfast :) DH came at 9am and we went home at 1pm.

Oneof4 · 21/02/2011 20:16

PDR you sound so chilled out about the whole thing! Glad it all worked out well and you're safely at home with LO.

I'm crossing my fingers that no word from Angels means things are moving....

debka · 21/02/2011 20:23

PDR sounds like a remarkably calm labour and birth experience! Well done you. Sounds like they treated you well. Esp well done for sleeping after the birth- I couldn't and really regretted it later.

Missed my nap today as S was having her own personal feedathon. She's 13 days today- don't they have a growth spurt at 2 weeks?

S is pretty good at going in her moses basket, but I do have to wait till she's properly asleep. Does anyone actually do as they say and put them in whilst sleepy but still awake? Re co-sleeping, part of me would love to, but the bigger part likes solo sleeping- S isn't eve in the room with us Blush she sleeps behind the sofa! Shock

ledkr just to make you Envy I am in the jeans that were too small pre-pg!! If I carry on eating like I am I'll be back in maternity trousers again though- just ate 2 doughnuts and only had tea an hour ago!

Thinking of sbf and angels ...

ledkr · 21/02/2011 21:32

Deb-i hope the doughnuts stick to your hips Grin I have had 5 tho so i guess im pushing my luck a bit.
I dont fancy co sleeping im too nervous tbh.And i like to spread out after months of not sleeping.Delilah has been non stop feeding all day but she does sleep at night so i cant complain too much.
Bloody pils are meant to be coming at the weekend, sil is also coming and bringing her boyfriend who i have met twice Angry
I told dh there is no way they can stay as well (do i look like a travel lodge?) tbh its going to be a bit much having 4 extra adults here for so long,i just arranged to go to my friends for a bit to get my roots done and will be heading off to bed with dds nice and early.god i really hate them, isnt that awfull?

ILovePonyo · 21/02/2011 23:45

Thanks for info re: co sleeping everyone - interesting and definitely something for me to consider. I might see if dp fancies sleeping in spare room if we do try it - he's not at all keen and very worried he'd squash baby. Then I would have kindsize bed to myself with dd too Grin

Needtosleep I've not had a problem with sweating but fwiw dp has soaked the bed with sweat every night since dd has been born - wierd!

Congrats PDR, you do sound calm about the whole thing and bet its nice being home with ds now.

debka we put dd in moses basket when she is still a bit awake and she drops off fine during the day, its just at night time when she can be awake or asleep when we put her in and she wakes up and seems offended we've dared to put her in! Shock at sleeping behind the sofa! Grin

ledkr we have dp's family visiting us this fri. About 6 of them. I am NOT looking forward to it, his parents visited last week and his mum managed to do my head in. However, they are not staying at our house, they got a hotel last time - I can't believe you are up to having guests stay over - very brave! Oh, and good luck Grin

wigglesrock · 22/02/2011 06:02

Yes, up early again, but don't worry Anna has managed to get back to sleep no problem Hmm

PDR well done on the birth story, you sounded so together through all of it, its funny isn't it that you just cope with all that labour/delivery throws at you, then a few days later when you relay it back to someone else it sounds a bit scary Grin

I am waking up at night very shivery, cold so am assuming that sleeping through the sweating, how pleasant!!!

Ledkr was wondering about pils and sil etc and whether they had dared show their faces yet, bastards inconsiderate people.

Also thinking of sbf and angels xx

40Weeks · 22/02/2011 09:14

What a lovely birth story PDR it's good to hear positive induction news as mine was awful and would dread going in again but will show them your post and say "do it like this please!"

Wonder what's happening with sbf and angels...?

Thought things were kicking off last night as was getting pains every 15mins but to no avail...have been pretty fed up this week for some reason, wonder if it's poss to have preND? Need to get out of house today with boys to try and lift my mood, not fair on the poor little guys to have a miserable mummy in the run up to the new arrival.

Good luck with inlaws ledkr hope the weekend is manageable.

Hope all the new arrivals are playing ball for you and you all are coping ok, I remember those first few weeks so well, it's a massive adjustment, go easy on yourselves

Looking forward to more news soon girls!

EauRouge · 22/02/2011 09:25

40weeks, I have been assured by several people that being grouchy and anti-social (or more so than usual in my case Grin ) is a sure sign that labour is imminent. Mind you, I've been feeling like that for a couple of weeks now and still no baby Angry Pains every 15 mins is a good sign, it could be your body warming things up!

I think my baby is waiting until Saturday when it's my mum's birthday, then I can ruin her birthday lie-in by calling her dead early and asking her to come and look after DD Grin

Kez84 · 22/02/2011 09:36

HI, just wanted to pop in and say congratulations to everyone who already have their babies. Sorry i'm not much of a poster, but I find it so helpful to read everyones stories.

I am 40+9 today so getting very fed up now. I've had a few pains but they just dissappear after an hour or so. Had a sweep on Sunday and they said I was 2cm dialated so fingers crossed. The hospital will call me from wednesday to saturday when they have space for induction so I just need to try and be patient now.

Good luck to everyone due or having their babies today. :)

40Weeks · 22/02/2011 09:46

Good luck kez the 2cms sounds positive!

eau it's my mums bday on Friday! Keep telling her not to expect a gift as the baby is her gift! Ha, it didn't wash

knittakid · 22/02/2011 10:29

pdr thanks for sharing your story, glad everything turned out well and hope you are now enjoying lots of sleep, rest and cuddles...

kez fingers crossed for you!

I have alse felt antisocial since last friday, but alas, nothing... perhaps I just am antisocial.

Really looking forward to hearing from sbf and angels.

ledkr · 22/02/2011 10:57

where is angels? I promised her a 2 hr labour and no stitches.Oh well never mind she is getting a gorgeous relic pram for her trouble,
Well i do seem to have a dream baby at night. She went from 9-3 then till 8.she does make up for it in the day tho,she has only just settled since 8 Shock
kez not long now,you have come this far.
I am stil sweating at night but it is a bit less. All i do these days is bath cos of sweat and my scar,i am still not sure re that cos i am getting some weird pains in my womb.
ponyothanks for sharing,i will think of you this weekend.Maybe we should catch up sat night and have a winge. The pil are staying and sil and boff in hotel but would have stayed if we let them,it makes no difference to me tho cos they will stil be here all sat round making a bloody noise,i will go to bed early with dds but its dh last day of pat leave and he will probably feel obligated to stay down here so ill be all alone Sad I hardly know the boyf, wtf is he going to do all day?
I am going to go to my friends for the afternoon to relax drink wine and leave them to it,im not going to get any rest here and they arent the slightest bit interested in me either.
wiggles my copper is back sunday,Delilah was feeding slowly today at the time id be leaving for school-what will i do?Anyone reccomend a sling i can buy?I need to be able to put it on alone and quickly.

smallblackflowers · 22/02/2011 11:54

Hi all, just a quick update from me - we beat the induction, I went into labour on Saturday evening, got to the hospital for about 2.30 am, was examined and told that I was 4cm and that my waters were bulging (a bit of a surprise as we all thought they'd started leaking on Friday). The birthing pool was free and with just G&A Thomas was born in the water at 7.38 on sunday morning, weighing a whopping 9lb 1oz. Makes it sound so easy! We came home yesterday afternoon, and aside from tiredness, piles and a 2nd degree tear are doing brilliantly.

not had a chance to catch up with the thread yet, but will do when I can. x

EauRouge · 22/02/2011 11:56

Yay, congrats sbf! Glad things went well, the birth sounds lovely.

How many of us are left now? Not many Shock

knittakid · 22/02/2011 12:16

Congrats sbf!!! glad it went well and you got to use the pool, you do make it sound easy!

40Weeks · 22/02/2011 13:05

Well done sbf that's brilliant news, sounds like a very positive birth experience! Love the name too (ds1 is the same!) hope you are resting up.

Wonder how angels is doing now and if anyone else is in the throes of labour!?

wigglesrock · 22/02/2011 13:34

Congratulations sbf, lovely name, enjoy the snuggles, take care of yourself x

Grannyapple · 22/02/2011 13:35

Hi ladies....41wks today & still no bloody sign...now getting seriously bored despite going for at least a 2mile walk each day! Booked in for sweep on Thursday....still holding out some (faint!) hope I won't need it..

Hope angels is progressing & all going well.

Congrats to all those with the new additions!

ledkr good luck with the outlaws this w/e...looking forward to hearing all about it!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/02/2011 14:12

fantastic news sbf, congratulations! Smile

just to let you know that angels is still waiting, i'll let her tell you what's been happening but she's in hospital waiting for things to happen. having said that, she may be in labour now as last hears at about 10am this morning. hope it happens really soon for her!

i just walked to the shop ON MY OWN, no bump or baby and it felt really strange, first time i've been alone for nine months Wink. we're having new carpet laid in the living room today so i've escaped to my parents and they're fussing over ben, brilliant! Grin

hope everyone is doing well Smile

Oneof4 · 22/02/2011 14:28

Poor Angels - give her our best. :(

Just got back from a very intense reflexology session hitting every pressure point known to overdue women! I've also started booking more stuff to do (go see friends, get freezer fixed, cinema tickets etc...) on the basis that sod's law is the most effective tactic I know at encouraging something to happen.

Ledkr I still can't believe your in laws are so insensitive. Is this the last w/e they are visiting or is it going to carry on indefinitely? I really feel for you.

SBF - so pleased for you beating the induction! Not quite so good about the piles and tear though. Ho hum.

janedoe25 · 22/02/2011 16:21

Congrats SBF glad you bet the induction!

Hope Angels is ok.

I still have no baby lots of BH and stomache cramps for days now, but still nothing! I have a sweep in the morning with the midwife - so not looking forward to it!

Hope all you ladies and babie are well Grin

tadjennyp · 22/02/2011 16:23

Congratulations to sbf and good luck to kez, angels and everyone else still waiting. Love reading all the news.
Best wishes to ledkr and ponyo with the ILs.

ILovePonyo · 22/02/2011 16:33

Congrats sbf! Sounds fab (well not the tear/piles) but water birth. Enjoy!

ledkr I'll definitely keep an eye out for you on Saturday night (as long as I'm not asleep Wink) I'm pretty sure I'll have some mini rants about mil and how she has managed to wind me up. I'm sorry but its a bit weird how your sils new boyf is coming - you've met him twice? Does he not think its weird?!?! Really feel for you, especially as it sounds like your poor dh will be stuck entertaining them. Saturday could be venting night I feel!

janedoe good luck with the sweep, I went into labour the day before I due to have one so am hoping the same for you! Fingers crossed :)

ILovePonyo · 22/02/2011 16:39

{grin] thanks tadjenny

Oh, and a stupid question from me (don't laugh please!) Dd is in tiny baby gros, she's 6lbs so quite small. However, the ones we have seem to just fit her feet (she has long feet) and I don't want her to be uncomfortable, but the next size up are huge - her poor legs poke out inbetween the poppers! So is it best for her to be in baby gros that fit snugly or ones that are too big?

Thanks Blush

wigglesrock · 22/02/2011 16:51

janedoe good luck for sweep. I had one last week, midwife told me nothing was happening I went into labour at 7pm that night, after sweep have a walk, seems to work a treat. Fingers crossed for you.

sbf let me know how you get on with the piles (what a weird sentence to type Grin) Am still bothered by mine.

needtosleep I know what you mean, I went to Tescos yesterday on my own, really strange but at the same time felt quite free!! How sad am I that Tescos is the pinnacle of my "me-time". Glad your parents are good with Ben, mine are fantastic with all three of mine, I have to whisper it around Ledkr but my in-laws are fab too Grin
