all quiet here still too.... jsut got back from town.

Spoilt Jess a bit for when baby arrives - bought her a "baby" a buggy and a few other toys.... not that she needs them but dont want her to feel too left out!

Hello all. just a quick update on what happened at the hospital.

The baby is still breech (surprise surprise) and he has one leg up by his head and the other one curled down below. Can't imagine that it's very comfy!! They can't see any particular reason for him being breech (eg low lying placenta or funny shaped uterus etc) but think that he has got stuck in this weird position and just hasn't been able to turn head down. They guestimated the weight at around 6.5lbs which is way smaller than I thought given DHs family history of big babies and by next week will probably be just around the 7lb mark.

So - I am still going in next Friday (21st) to have a go at ECV but I was told that for a first baby, the success rate is around 30%. If successful, I could either go home and see what happens, or get induced. If turning doesn't work then I will get a section that day. Consultant reckoned on a 5% chance of him turning of his own accord so realistically, I am probably looking at a section although I am going to hold onto that small glimmer of hope that he might turn!!

Surely by the time I go in next Friday, some more of you will have dropped!!!

thanks for letting us know mawbroon. Not quite what you wanted to hear, but at least he's well and there is a chance the ECV will be successful.
If it is will you be induced, or go home and wait for things to start?

mawbroon · 11/10/2005 13:41

Hi BBB. Haven't decided on the induction issue yet. Before the mention of c sections came into the equation, i was keen to avoid being induced as so many people say that it often leads to the need for futher intervention (haven't binned my birth plan with "minimum intervention unless neccessary" just yet!!) On the other hand, who's to say that the baby might not just flip back over again and I'll have missed my chance for a normal delivery. Rather than go mad trying to decide something which is only theoretical at the moment, we have decided to wait and see if it is actually a decision that we are going to have to make at the time if the baby turns. What a cop out eh?

Oh and BTW it's definitely a boy!!!

Congrats Mr and Mrs Moomin - and welcome to Evie Martha (fab name, I love it!).

Glad things seem to be moving for you, mP.

JBM - you still here?!

Saw two midwives yesterday. One reckoned I'm having a 8.5lb baby, the other said 7.5lb. So I'll take that as a "don't know", then.

Am going in Friday for GBS swab and possibly a sweep. Hoping to get stinking cold behind me before going into labour... Have a strong feeling that nothing will happen within the next week.

Still here! Have had a nice 'normal' day though. DH has just left to take dd to my mother's for the night - her first sleepover, she is SOOOOO excited. I'm going to have a nap.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 15:47

Are you getting any more pains MP????

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 15:52

They are on and off, very irregular!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 15:57

bless.... sounds like me all day yesterday. Lets hope this really IS it for you - my god you need to drop soon or that baby will be a toddler before its born!!

Hope to read the birth announcement in the morning!

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 16:33

Just had a handfull of paracetamol and a handful of Maltesers and now I'm off for a nap

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 17:23

i now own a bottle of castor oil........ what to do with it!

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 18:09

Things are cranking up here - fuckety fuck I'd forgotten about the contractions. Kept waking me up so couldn't sleep but had a rest. I've put a pizza in the oven and opened a beer - I'll get some food into me and then have a bath in case this is it.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 18:15

Excellent hun.... try and keep us posted!!! GOOD LUCK! Told you i wanted to read that birth announcement tomorrow morning!

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 18:24

Me too! It's got to come out tomorrow because the next day's my birthday!

Beer is helping.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 18:25

Jockey · 11/10/2005 19:13

Getting seriously excited for you MP!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 19:15

come on MP - been nearly an hour since the last post.... WHATS HAPPENING?!

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 19:20

Heheh WELL after the beer I watched some telly... DH won't be back for another hour so it's quite nice being around the house by myself. I'm just running a bath. Contractions are about every 5 minutes and quite painful but very short - only 30 seconds or so. I've taken some more paracetamol. I think I will be in for a long sleepless night - I have a feeling that it will be another slow labour but hopefully things will pick up before I'm too exhausted!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 19:24

5 mins apart already?! You go woman.... and get DH home!

morningpaper · 11/10/2005 19:33

With dd I had contractions 2-5 minutes apart for 27 hours with no let up. So not going to expect much better this time!

Lexie100 · 11/10/2005 20:23

Hope it is all going well MP.

I have been having period type pains for a few hours now but not getting excited as i have had so many practice contractions over this past week. If anything happens over the evening i'll let you know.
