Ooh well done semper big congrats, if you can get through a driving test labour will be a doddle!! This from the girl who took three tests Shock

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 29/01/2011 09:56

Hello all! Congratulations to Ledkr on the birth of her daughter.

I have been up since 2am with 'contractions' coming every 6-15mins and lasting between 20 and 45 seconds. Feel quite sore down there and twingy and baby is wriggling like mad! They seemed to have tailed off a bit now though. Actually just had another one that was quite ouchy! So definately in early labour! DS has gone to my MIL for the day and DP has popped into work so I think I'll go back to bed and try and catch up on some sleep although lying down and resting seems to make them come more painful and regular. No show yet!

Need2Sleep- Good luck! I wonder which of us will give birth first? Grin

EauRouge · 29/01/2011 10:04

Ooh, good luck breastmilk! Hope it all goes smoothly.

Congrats semper on passing your test, just in time eh Grin

I wonder who will be next... has anyone C&P the stats from the last thread? I'll do it now.

Good Luck breastmilk hoe it is nice and quick for you. Just think this time tomorrow you may have your little darling here!

needto hope all is still going well....and progressing.

semper Congrats on your driving test!! Wow brave girl for doing so close to due date, but at least you can now have independence just in time for one little one arrives!

Getting some sofa time in this morning before i teach at half 2 this afternoon Angry

wigglesrock · 29/01/2011 10:44

semper congrats - I passed mine two years ago after five attempts, to be honest after having both dds it was the proudest/ happiest moment of my life.

needto hope you're doing ok?

Ledkr still wrapped up in lovely baby bubble? Hope you are feeling and healing ok?

Had nice dinner last night, weird being at work as a guest! Although glad that's the last of anything social I have to do, feeling the need to get comfy and stay at home Grin

Grannyapple · 29/01/2011 10:50

Omg it's all kicking off now...good luck breastmilk

Ooh, this thread is so exciting ATM!

Good luck Needto and Breastmilk Grin wonder who will be first?

Now is anybody actually going to be hanging on until February or what? Hmm Grin

Thanks for kind reassuring words re baby size. Smile I'm feeling a lot better about it actually, especially since I had a moan to a friend yesterday and she really helped to put my mind at ease! What will be will be eh? Smile

roundthehouses I have got a sample of the Ina May Gaskin book on my iPhone so I'll have a look at it! Smile

Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday! Ours has been quite productive so far. Got up early and went food shopping and got a few bits for hospital bags - wipes etc so we're relaxing at home in the warm. It's freezing outside, really frosty - roll on warm weather! House is a shit tip but I cba doing anything about it!

WanderingSheep · 29/01/2011 10:55

Ooh, forgot to say well done Semper for passing your driving test! Something I need to do! Smile

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 11:10

debka pre bfast I'm about 4 - 4.5 and an hour after meals it's anything around about 4.5 - 8 (have had 2 readings ever in the 9's). I've been told anything below 7.8 is good/fine.

Ohhhh needto and breastmilk thinking about both of you and genuinely feel sooooo excited for you. Can't wait for updates.

My pelvis is killing me today/last night [old lady emoticon]. Note to self - you are no longer capable of bending into the bath to sterilise all the baby bits

WanderingSheep · 29/01/2011 11:12

Angels what are you sterilising in the bath? Confused

NeedToSleepZZZ · 29/01/2011 11:29

Hello!

oooh, breastmilk I'm cheering you on! I would bet money on you delivering first! I actually managed to sleep a bit last night between contractions and went for an hour's walk this morning to, ahem, encourage things along. Contractions defnitely stronger but still 10/15 minutes apart. I don't 'feel' like I'm having a baby, does that make sense? I'm trying to get on with other things but it was getting to the point earlier when I had to stand up for each one as sitting down hurt!

Think I'm in for a long one, so sorry, I want to give you lot a baby story!!!!!! Wink

angels be careful! What were you sterilising in the bath?

semper well done! Smile I need to have lessons again at some point but I'm absolutely rubbish at driving.

40 I love embarrassing bodies for some strange reason but I couldn't watch the girl remove food from her tonsils.... too much!! I'd rather see a bum any day! Grin

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 11:36

oh Wandering -I've got loads of my old toys down from the loft and am picking my favouritest ones to strategically place in the nursery to make it look all homey and babyfied and they were really dirty. Also have been given lots of plastic toys and am keeping some in the nursery (rest in loft for later) to interest the baby (know this might not be for a few months though). Didn't really know best way to clean them so decided to wash them in a bath of milton - bad idea for the back/pelvis.

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 11:37

thansk for update needto and best wishes. Hope your brother didn't end out coming down to stay with you this weekend Wink

WanderingSheep · 29/01/2011 11:40

Get running up and down the stairs needto! Wink

Make sure you drink plenty of water as apparently "a dehydrated uterus is a sore one" according to MW! You sound like you're doing fantastically though, hope he arrives soon! Smile

WanderingSheep · 29/01/2011 11:43

Ah I see angels! Grin I had an image of bottles and dummies in the bath, in my head!

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 29/01/2011 12:24

Thanks for the support everyone Smile

I take my hat off to you needto for managing a walk this morning! I don't want to come out of the house! My contractions are still the same as yours, needing a pee every 5 minutes and wanting to poo a lot too but it's a reluctant one due to the SpaTone I have been taking! I'm am also finding sitting down, especially lying down uncomfortable. It seems to make the contractions more painful and regular. I'm liking leaning over the bannister on the top of the stairs and standing on tip-toe everytime I get an ouchy one! It seems to help somehow!

I'm not sure when and if I should ring the labour ward? I am a VBAC so considered high risk and I know that they will want to put time limits and monitoring on me from when I am in established labour so reluctant to avoid this but think that maybe they should know that things have started? Any advice much appreciated Grin

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 12:30

No idea breastmilk what you should do but if it were me think I'd ring them just to let them know what's going on so they expect you at some point. Sure they'll tell you to ring back when it's more established but at least they'll know you're in early labour IYKWIM. How exciting and wishing you lots of positivity to an easy VBAC.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 29/01/2011 13:41

Thanks snow I have just called the labour ward and she said to come in when they were 3/4 mins apart and painful. I also said that I wanted to use the birthing pool to hich she replied that I couldn't because I was a VBAC. I said that the consultant had said that I could and she then said that they didn't have any liners for it Hmm but I culd use the bath instead! I am Angry that I have a fight on my hands later when I am going to be in no shape to fight my corner. Why should I have to? Don't they realise that water is the most effective form of pain relief 2nd only to an epi? Would they rather I had an epi therfore increase my chances of having further intervention and possibly not feel a potential scar rupture? My pain relief options are quite limited as opiates make me so sick and the epi I had last time didn't work despite being resited 3 times I still felt excrutiating back pain.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 29/01/2011 13:42

Blush excuse the rant! I'm hormonal, goddamit!

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 13:54

:( breastmilk this is just what you don't need. Has your consultant written in your notes you can have a wather birth? At least you can then walk into hospital clutching that to shove in their face Grin . Doesn't the whole water birth thing depend on if there are any available too with NHS? Does where I am anyway. Hopefully you'll go in prepared for a fight though so it won't all be a suprise when you turn up. I hope it all works out for you and I'm sure they'll do the best thing for you and the LO.

I've been testing out my tens machine today - feels really odd (only did it on gentlest setting though - didn't want to get too carried away Wink )

lostfromoz · 29/01/2011 14:08

breastmilk they might be better when you get in there, esp if you talk to a different person...our NCT teacher advised us to phrase things as 'can you help us at all?' (although obviously you may prefer to be shouting and screeching at their unreasonableness)...ie, 'we are really keen to get into the birth pool and would be so grateful if you could help us to make it happen...can you suggest anything?'. She also advised that if possible get DH to be the one negotiating with the medics so you can stay focused on the baby and breathing etc...another good negotiating tip was for DH to take mw aside and sort of say collusively to her that you are quite crazy and that this is the only thing that will make you calm down...sounds hideously disloyal, obviously, but maybe effective?

debka · 29/01/2011 14:10

This thread is getting exciting now- the race is on, breastmilk and needto !!!

Thanks angels , so my 5.4 was pretty good then! Any idea if they treat you differently when in labour? My cons. said I should just drink water rather than lucozade, but I do have a very large bar of Dairy Milk tucked away for after the birth. Grin

Twice now I've had a really funny feeling- like severe SPD but an achey pain all round my back and hips, bad enough that I can't walk and have to bend over till it's passed. What do you reckon this is? Once today, once yesterday, so if it is a contraction, they're not exactly coming thick and fast! Be great if it was things getting ready to labour on Tuesday.

cookingfat · 29/01/2011 14:10

hello all
just checking in too. Been to mothercare for some last bits and pieces, washed baby clothes, and off out for a curry tonight. Let's hope it gets baby moving!
Look forward to hearing baby stories soon, breastmilk and needto ... Wonder how many babies will be January ones!

snowangels1 · 29/01/2011 14:19

debka i've not been advised re: eating and drinking in labour - I was going to ask my diabetic nurse next week if I can take all the cereal bars/lucazade etc I've brought ready or if they won't let me. I've brought loads of packs of lucazade energy tablets too but not sure if they'll be OK. I have been told during labour it will be treated as 'normal' but I'll have regular monitoring of my blood sugar and if it goes above 8 they will inject me with insulin to keep levels stable. They will also have to do something about a little pin prick blood test on the foot of the baby on birth to check her blood sugar levels. Might be different where you are though.

Still sending lots of good thoughts to breastmilk and needto and hoping ledkr is well
