knittakid · 28/01/2011 11:38

Yayyyyy needto !!!!! thing are moving!!! are you going to have a hb live thread?

wiggles am only now sending my MA form as my employer took until now to send me the SMP1...
Re piles, they are not painful as such, just uncomfortable when I go to the loo, would some medication help during labour?

PDR · 28/01/2011 11:41

knitta are you in England? I only sent mine on 12th (and posted it second class) and it has been approved today so not too bad really :)

PinkiePoo · 28/01/2011 12:14

wiggles when did you send off your claim for MA. I sent mine off last week, so guessing it is too early to even call them?!

wiggles WAHOO!!!!! Come on girl! We are all rooting for you.

Ironing done for the day....just the hoovering and dusting left to do!! Oh such joys. Oh and trying to catch the Murray game in between. Anyone else watching? nailbiting stuff!

OOhhhhhh need to soooo excited for ! Hope it all kicks off soon!

Thanks for reminding me ladies i have my mat allowance form still to send off i MUST do it today!

wigglesrock · 28/01/2011 12:37

PinkiePoo thought you knew something I didn't Grin

I sent my original claim in a while ago but they sent me back a form that wasn't to be sent back to them until I had officially finished work, actually finished not on annual leave, I sent that in about 10 days ago and they told me claim had been approved yesterday.

knittakid Don't think medication will help during labour, but great that they're not painful, should clear up pretty quickly after labour but if they don't, don't be a hero about it, get it sorted out quickly.

PDR I didn't go back to work after dd2 until Jan 2010, she was 2, it was more to do with Mr Wiggles working patterns, shift changes etc, it was also easier to wait until dd1 had started primary school.

PinkElephant73 · 28/01/2011 13:01

Needtosleep sounds like its definitely happening - good luck!

snowangels1 · 28/01/2011 13:11

woohoo for needto. This thread is so exciting at the moment - who needs soaps?! Wink

I think I need to rethink my hospital bags - not yet nearly packed and already have a gym bag, massive carrier bag, cool bag and DH bag of bits - probably enough for the whole hospital to live on for a month in fact Blush. I'm no good at packing light and am packing enough food for me to live on for 2 days as I have a special diet and don't trust hospital food Hmm. Just how many nappies/breast pads/mat pads are people taking? I prob won't be able to ask DH to pop home and collect stuff for me as partners can stay in rooms in post natal so he will be with me all the time.

Tarlia · 28/01/2011 13:22

Oooh, good luck, needto! Hope everything is going well for you today. Soooo exciting!

Probably been spoken about before, but I'd really appreciate hearing the pros and cons of induction, preferably from someone who has had a normal uninduced labour and induced if possible. But of course love to hear anything anyone has to say about it! I've been informed that we are offered induction at 41 weeks here, want to be informed enough to make the decision whether or not to wait or not if that time comes, the Internet is very mixed.

PDR · 28/01/2011 13:32

angels so Envy that partners can stay in the postnatal rooms - I think that would be great - especially for 1st timers (not sure DS would be pleased in our case).
I am packing about 12 nappies and only a handful of breast pads as am hoping to be home by the time my milk comes in.

Tarlia I was induced when I had DS and it wasn't toooo bad.
It meant I was in the delivery suite for 24 hours (from when they inserted the pessary) so it did get a bit boring but I was probably only in "active" labour for 15 hours. I did have to have a drip, almost constant monitoring and couldn't move around very freely though which I think made things last longer. The hormone drip (I think) stimulates your uterus to contract and this can be very strong so I was advised to have an epidural "before it was too late" which I did. No problems with that at all. They came to do it very quickly, first attempt, not painful or anything - would have one again if I thought I needed it. Baby was in distress at the end (consultant called) possibly due to length of labour he was just getting tired?

I have nothing to compare it to but hey, I'm here again having number 2 so can't be too bad!!!!

In my area they don't offer routine induction until 40+10 so I doubt it would hurt to wait a bit if you are not too fed up when the time comes.

ZeroMinusZero · 28/01/2011 13:32

Wow, fingers crossed for you needto :)

Thank Christ for the weekend

WanderingSheep · 28/01/2011 13:38

GO NEEDTOSLEEP! GO NEEDTOSLEEP!

Just got back from consultant appt. Didn't get to see consultant as he'd had a family emergency so saw someone else Hmm a registrar, I think. She basically said that there's no way they'll give me an elective CS as baby measuring normally and they wouldn't even if she was off the scale so I have to go on as I am and be terrified that I will split in half. She wouldn't even let me have a scan for reassurance. I'm a shamed to say that I sat there sobbing in the office Blush.

PinkElephant73 · 28/01/2011 14:20

Im packing bags at the moment - not hospital bags, but DS1 and DS2s rucksacks for cub camp this weekend.

am 39 weeks today, so planning a quiet childfree weekend with OH, and dinner out Sat night - unless of course the baby decides to make an early appearance!

Deliaskis · 28/01/2011 14:30

Sooo excited for needto , in fact also really excited at all the recent and anticipated developments on this thread.

Dx

PinkiePoo · 28/01/2011 14:46

Ladies....

xxxx

debka · 28/01/2011 14:48

Latest update on my induction- consultant wrote down Mon 1st Feb- of course TUESDAY is the 1st Feb. So even though she said Monday, cos it says in notes the 1st, the delivery suite won't have me till the 1st. So all plans are changing- induction now on Tuesday! Lets hope it means Things will be more ready...

Had a lovely low blood sugar level today [proud emoticon].

needto best of luck again- trickling waters are GREAT!!

wandering you will NOT split in half, bigger babies are actually EASIER to deliver because they are stronger and 'help' by pushing with their feet. Please don't panic, you will be fine, your body has made a baby the right size to come out.

wigglesrock · 28/01/2011 14:54

Tarlia re induction - I was induced with dd2 40+8ish. I went into the hospital at 10pm at night, was woken at 5ish, given pessary gel, had a doze, read books, mags, watched TV, had breakfast, listened to i-pod, just passed the time of day, was given another gel at about 11am, on monitoring machine for about 30 mins at about 2ish. Had lots of baths, started to feel discomfort but not pain.

Had a bath , at about 4pmish, while in bath, contractions started, took my breath away, called midwife was 7cm, taken down to delivery room, had dd2 at 6.30pm, no drip, very active, had her whilst kneeling at side of bed, happened very quickly, ie waters broke, midwife had to cut knickers off me!!, dd2 arrived 2 mins later!!!

I found it very positive, fast and pain much more controllable, than with dd1, it was a much longer labour (she was back to back), I went into spontaneous labour, labour was about 17 hours, only active labour for about 7 hours, very stop, starty. I wasn't very active, back was really sore due to position but it was certainly doable and I forgot about it the minute I saw her Grin

wigglesrock · 28/01/2011 14:56

wandering dd2 was 2lb bigger than dd1 and as I said above much easier birth!!!

snowangels could you leave a bag in the car, so you don't have to bring everything in at once.

PDR · 28/01/2011 15:26

Well I am back from the hospital with DS and he still hasn't had his BCG becuase I couldn't hold him still enough! Don't think the nurse was too pissed off but tbh holding a 2yr old on your lap with a massive bump and having to keep them completely still is somewhat impossible! DH will have to come when they have the next clinic in a month's time. She did get the needle in but then he got his other hand free and starting grabbing it so she had to take it out. All in all a very traumatic expereince!!!!!!! Why oh why did they not tell me he needed the bloody BCG when he was born (as is the norm) he has had every other jab under the sun due to DH's heritage / our travel plans so why noone thought to mention it is beyond me.

Rant over. And breathe......

smallblackflowers · 28/01/2011 15:40

needtosleep yay! I hope things are progressing well for you. Am very Envy.

debka well done on your low blood sugar Smile and good luck for Tuesday now!

I've got 3 bags packed, 1 labour bag, one baby bag and one for me post birth. All are fairly small, but fairly crammed!

PDR Poor you and DS, that doesn't sound like an easy proposition at all. Better luck next time.

Pinkelephant your peaceful weekend sounds lovely!

I'm still feeling crampy, but no worse than yesterday, so guess that things are gearing up, but not starting yet. Have had a bounce on my gym ball as it seemed to work well for needto Smile.

Oneof4 · 28/01/2011 15:50

PDR I have no idea how those of you with children already are coping with pg as well - wriggly children, needles and bumps surely don't mix!

Needto I am so excited about the deluge - keep us posted (when you're able!).

Delia I think we're due on the same date and it's great to know I'm not the only one made enough to still be working. My mat cover doesn't start until the 7th, so the pressure is still on, but it's a great distraction. If only I could get the occasional good nights sleep as well!

I have a VERY compelling urge to buy a sewing machine. What's going on?!

Oneof4 · 28/01/2011 15:50

"made enough", obviously...

snowangels1 · 28/01/2011 15:50

debka love the proud emoticon for low blood sugar - mine has been pretty low today too and in my proudness I just ate half a wispa Shock - it was calling me. No wonder I have such a big baby Confused . Healthy eating otherwise today so hopefully will all even out.

wiggles good idea re: hospital bags - don't want to scare them by turning up with enough to look like I'm moving in too Hmm

DH is testing the new shower as we speak (incredible loud bathroom men all done) - it's actually quite sad how excited we are about it Grin

Thinking lots about how needto is doing and hope ledkr is enjoying time with baby no name and will remember us enough to update us.
