architien · 01/02/2011 10:19

*sorry about spelling there Shock Confused

beckie90 · 01/02/2011 10:27

how long did it take for you ladies to hear anything about 28wk bloods??

architien · 01/02/2011 10:44

hi beckie90 it took mine three days to get back to me.

Jaylar · 01/02/2011 10:53

Arch glad you got some good news at last.

Am I first one to start mat leave then? My contract finished yesterday but as I'm nearly 30 weeks I get to call it maternity leave instead of unemployment. Work has been super intense for weeks and DD is still in nursery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I'm in a bit of a dream state today. Have forgotten how to function as an adult with spare time, no job and no child to look after.

Also had MW visit to discuss home birth this morning. Was all set for horror stories and what if .....but she was fantastic. So supportive and actually listened to my reasons. So it's all set for HB I hope. She only lives a mile from me so am preying she isn't on holiday which she will be if this one is a week overdue.

Anyways, I was full of plans to gut daughter's bedroom, paint radiators and do some gardening today. But think I'll read some of my book then have a nap. It's not like I'm ever going to get days to myself for years.

SaltedPretzels · 01/02/2011 10:55

Petalouda Grin Grin grin]Grin love the rant. I think MW's say what they think, sometimes instead of finding out, after all most people don't challenge them for fear of bad treatment the next time!
Your right with the Ranatidine, it's a small table twice a day and prohibits the production of acid. It's prescribed if your taking excessive amounts of other antacids, I was going through a sheet of 12 rennies and swigging gaviscon, waking several times in the night on fire despite being propped up. It was driving me crazy my GP said they try not to prescribe them as there haven't been any clinical tests on pregnant women however she would be happier e taking them than carrying on with the amount I was going though.

Frakk Sounds like a fantastic holiday, nice rest and the safari driver sounds thoughtful. Ooh ouch Sad on the toe! Several years ago I broke two toes, small and one next to, as I crept into the kitchen bare foot to check on DH to see if he was really cooking dinner and if it was burning was almost ready when he triumphantly swung open the kitchen door to tell me it was ready, toes under door mid step and CRACK Confused Shock Sad.
Two very different types of pain, personally I think breaking bones is a lot worse than anything in labour. Hopefully it's not your big toe or you could have some fun with balance to come lol.

question? Has anyone had a bikini wax done recently, I really want to book in for 3 weeks before D Day but I know it's a more sensitive area now so how much more does it hurt? I usually go every other month but resorted to shaving ( sorry if TMI)when I found out, now I can't reach never mind see down there Blush and I'm a bit nervous about going back lol, crazy I know!

Kittycat OMG your there already, mine don't start until 3rd March, how exciting, what was the first one like?

beckie90 · 01/02/2011 11:07

ahh i see so if there was something wrong i should have heard something by now i can imagine. i had mine done at 28+3 last wensday

kittycatcat · 01/02/2011 11:18

salted it was ok. We had to introduce ourselves and our partners, say where we lived and how preggers we are. One woman was 34 weeks but we were mostly around 27 / 28. It was all about 1st stage of labour and pain relief. So told us when to call the hospital and when we should come in, signs of labour and so on. Would say that bit was useful. Next week is stage 2 and complications i think. Week 3 is stage 3 and a tour of the ward. Next week i start relaxation classes too. They are 3.45 tho so DH isnt coming and i have to take MIL :(

thefurryone · 01/02/2011 12:07

Hi Everyone, you've all been very busy!

cycle thought of a retort for you next time you're pushed out the way by some rude woman on the tube "ever so sorry I thought you were just a bit fat didn't realise you were pregnant" - although possibly a little bit too bitchy!

stuffed good luck with the driving test, my Mum passed hers when she was pregnant with me.

petalouda what flavour gaviscon did you get? It comes in aniseed and peppermint, the aniseed makes me heave but I've actually developed a bit of a taste for the peppermint.

snap sounds like you had a great holiday, hope your toe is now feeling better. I've been thinking about "hurting yourself" pain compared to labour pain and am hoping that labour pain will turn out to be easier to cope with as it's productive pain rather than something wrong pain, although having never been through labour I'm probably just being a bit naive!

arch good news on the diabetes test.

I'm off to the midwife tomorrow for my 28 week check, which is going to involve blood tests so not sure I'm looking forward to it. Have any of you ever been weighed at an ante-natal check up? My worry of the week is that I'm not putting on enough weight, as I've lost 2lbs in the last fortnight and am currently only 7lbs heavier than I was pre-pregnancy, my arms, legs and face all seem to be thinner (although that may just be in contrast to my growing stomach). I think it's only a worry as I'm normally about a stone heavier than I probably should be and am the kind of person who just has to look at a bar of chocolate and gain a few lbs so this is so this is a totally alien situation for me particularly as I have an incredibly healthy appetite at the moment.

lucielooo · 01/02/2011 12:58

Great news about the diabetes test arch you must be very relieved :)

Frakk your holiday sounds gorgeous.. I've broken a few toes on various occasions before and it's horrible. For such small body parts they are very pain inducing!!

stuffed good luck with the test :) my sis learnt to drive while she was pregnant which was very impressive I thought. Since I've been pregnant I can't be bothered to do much apart from the bare minimum!

Does anyone know what the bloods are for on the 28 week check? I had my taken about 10 days ago but not sure what they were looking for anyway.

NCT classes start on Thursday! Can't believe we're at that point already. We only moved to the area in June and as I work in London I don't know anyone locally so I'm hoping there will be some friendly people at the NCT classes. Was a bit bored at the weekend and suddenly having palpitations about months and months of being off work with no-one to see all week (I'm excited really though!) :)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/02/2011 12:59

Great news on the results arch Smile

Sounds like a divine holiday Frakk, I've only broken toes so can't really compare the pain, but my sister says breaking her leg was way more painful than giving birth.

I got loads of boring chores done while ds was at pre-school this morning, I'm now paying for it with BH's and a sore pelvis. ouch ouch ouch.

furry - I very much doubt the small weightloss is anything to worry about. The baby will take everything it needs from you, and then your body will get second dibs. Also as your uterus gets higher your stomach gets less and less room so you may find you have to start eating smaller meals. I know I've noticed over the past two weeks that I can't eat so much in one go, well actually I can but it makes me feel very uncomfortable so I have to stop myself!

lucielooo · 01/02/2011 13:03

thefurryone I've also not put on much weight.. I think some people must just be lucky and their metabolism speeds up. I'm only about 5lbs heavier than pre-pregnancy, though I lost nearly half a stone in the first trimester so have put on aboout 11lbs altogether. Bump is measuring fine though and I don't feel like I've put on weight in other places (so far so good) but I was overweight to start with so it's really nothing to shout about!

Are you eating more healthily than usual? I am sure the fact that I am not drinking wine is mainly responsible!

beckie90 · 01/02/2011 13:07

FURRY- im 30 weeks on sunday and im still not yet back upto my pre pregnancy weight. i lost loadsa weight while i was pregnant went down to 7 stone 12 for some unknown reason, but was just advised that some women do loose it, and some just dont put much on at all. they havent weighed me either since my booking appointment x

thefurryone · 01/02/2011 13:23

Thanks everyone, lucieloo I think you may have a very good point when it comes to wine as calorie wise that is probably the biggest change in my diet Blush Trying not to worry too much but I just really expected going on past form that I'd be about 15 stone by now!

I'm having bloods done tomorrow, I know that one reason is to check for the RH+ antibodies because I'm RH-. Not sure what else they'll look for, perhaps iron levels, strep B??

Cyclebump · 01/02/2011 13:33

Well thank you Daily Mail. Apparently we CAN have sex throughout our pregnancy. Phew!

At my last physio appointment she gave me detailed instructions on safe positions, so not exactly news!

Weight wise I've put on about a stone. It's all bump apart from a little ... ahem ... 'rounding' of the face that appeared in the past week or so.

Kitty do you have to take you MIL?

DP can't do my antenatal/parentcraft class so I'm going alone. His mum offered but I thought it would be weird.

caramellokoalalover · 01/02/2011 13:35

jaylar I started leave this week too. I'm self employed and am moving house next week so couldn't continue my work. Am now technically unemployed I guess but maternity leave sounds much less scary doesn't it Grin

Salted let me know if you brave the bikini wax. I'm in the same position as you, have been doing the odd home DIY trim but am getting fed up of it now, and same as you am a bit scared as it's been so long...and is so, err, long Blush

thefurryone · 01/02/2011 13:39

Forgot to say salted I've been going for bikini waxes throughout pg, I'm a total wuss with pain and find it really really hurts when not pg, but haven't noticed any increase in pain levels tbh.

Cyclebump · 01/02/2011 13:47

Bikini waxes?!?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!?!

Last thing on my mind. I bought a bikini line trimmer for MY convenience but when the time comes I reckon the mw etc will have seen in all before.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/02/2011 14:48

I forgot about SP mentioning bikini waxes Grin

I've never had one and never intend to, I have somehow been graced with quite an unhairy body (except my head where there is an over-abundance of it).

I also lol'd the description of Gaviscon as jizz Grin. I have somehow managed to avoid indegestion in all my pregnancies and touch wood it stays that way. Swallowing a vast amount of a jizz like substance doesn't appeal - funnily enough!

I haven't started ML as I'm a SAHM, but I have now started to make various To Do lists that I'm getting through when ds is at pre-school.

kittycatcat · 01/02/2011 15:18

cycle she sort of offered and put me on the spot. She used to be a midwife and always asks about my weight which isnt being monitored. Harrumph. there were only other halves there last night if that helps.

JustKeepSwimming · 01/02/2011 15:33

Had lower legs waxed once that was enough for me! (did have a 'trim' down there a few weeks back when i could kind of see, that will have to do!).

I think i've put on about 1.5stone so far, expecting to prob put on about 3 as i do allow myself treats when pg, and i know i can lose it as done it before. may not be the healthiest way to go about things but there you go Grin

So tired at the mo, waking for a night pee and struggling to get back to sleep + DS2 waking anytime from 4.45
Also my MW said the other day, that transverse babies mean the bump measures too small, can't remember what she measured it as now but it was small, luckily she's sensible and knows why so no scaring me with extra scans, etc.

Arch - glad the diabetes has been ruled out, had that test with DS1, not nice. Really hope you can find someone/anyone to be supportive now.

SaltedPretzels · 01/02/2011 15:57

Kittycat I think taking MIL is a great idea I mean if the techniques are any good your the perfect guinea pig as it were lmao x

This as I keep boring everyone is my 3rd but after a 15 year break it really does feel like the 1st time again. So many things have changed (for the better) I never went to antenatal classes with DD's so I'm really exited to catch up with other mums to be.

Jaylar Sorry I started my maternity leave almost three weeks ago then again Grin
I own the company so perks Grin
Only thing is from doing everything and stressing 24/7 to....well....booking hair appointments, massages, lunches and pondering bikini waxes, I'm really bored Hmm Although I have cleaned the kitchen top to bottom, broken the fridge freezer so had to buy a new one Hmm that annoyed DH no end Blush planning new living room furniture and browsing online baby stores so not as idle as it could have been lol

Arch Really happy to hear your news you must be relieved, now you can relax and look forward to a wonderful home birth Smile
Also don't worry about spelling a few comments ago I was taking 1 small table tablet twice day for heartburn lol

Beckie90 My results came back 7 days later they telephoned to ask me to go back for more as my iron level was really low, they booked me in the same day and 3 days later the results came back even lower so have new poyeye tablets now. They leave it until your next booked appointment is nothing is wrong, so no news is good news Smile

Furry Thanks about the waxing, I'm biting the bullet and booking in Shock

Your spot on with the tests but they don't just check your antbodies they also give you an anti D, I too am rhesus negative and it's not a fun thing. Hopefully your hospital will give you one injection at 28 weeks and not another until after the birth and only if your baby is positive. Years ago they gave FIVE of the bloody jabs. Tip take a boiled or sucky type sweet with you for before the jab as it's a bit like a bee sting, I find it easier if I suck a sweet! If you have to have two jabs the second is at 34 weeks and again if the baby is positive blood Sad sorry it's not nice but it's for a very good cause xx

Cycle I just don't like the idea of after the crowning when babys head turns and has a eyes, nose, mouth full of curlies Grin just an image from a rather bizzare thought I had but prompted me to tidy the garden as it were. lol

SarahJinx · 01/02/2011 16:49

SaltedPretzels that made me laugh out loud! I'm having a sneaky read of MN at my desk, agreeing with all my heart that the delivery team will have seen it all before, and therefore have to put up with my straggles, but you've just summed it up good and proper!

Um on the 28 blood tests, I had my results yesterday lucielooo, tested for Iron levels, anti bodies and glucose. I'm having a little freak because my glucose came back at 6, and apparently any higher and we got a problem? I'm not being tested again for three weeks though so is it a huge deal?

Also, my MW not sure how my little bean is positioned, is anyone else hearing this or is it to early to care yet - I'm 28+2.

lucielooo · 01/02/2011 17:07

Just talking about OBEM at work and friend said 'hope you're not watching it lucieloo! (nicely) and I said 'oh yes I love it, I'd rather be shocked watching it now than on the day'. Then a bloke in my office snorted in a 'you'll be shocked anyway' kind of way (his gf had a baby 6 months ago) am I unreasonable for really really really wanting to punch him in the face?? Quite possibly, but I don't really like him anyway.

sarahjinx I didn't realise they tested for glucose too, I thought that was just done from the wee tests. That's the bit I'm worried about, not that I'm showing symptoms but because I was overweight before being pg and I really would like a homebirth. Will have to wait and see!

Re positions, baby is still moving around a lot at this point so I think it doesn't matter too much which way they are as more than likely (s)he'll moved a few more times before D-day - my mw didn't note it at my 28 week appointment.

LisMcA · 01/02/2011 17:15

Think I've hit my low point today :(
Just been to my 3rd antenatal class and the other girls all seem to be flying through, most of them are further on and are due in the next 2 or 3 weeks. then there's me with my SPD, feeling crap all the time, still with 10 weeks to go. I'm begining to think I'm not going to last that long. I've just cried all the way home. I'm pretty sure I'm not the worst pregnant person in the world, but right now I feel like it.

I really need someone to kick me up the arse and tell me to get over it. I think its worse today because I was home over the weekend I realised just how much I miss my mum and friends. Although they are only a couple of hours away they aren't just round the corner.

God this is so self pitying, sorry ladies!

lucielooo · 01/02/2011 17:18

Ah LisMcA I think we all have days feeling like that - especially with family/friends not being near enough. Mine are a couple of hours away too and I'm really missing at the moment. Would a hug do instead of a kick up the arse ;)
