Well, you know what I'll be doing in the shower from next friday then Frak!

kittycatcat · 23/02/2011 16:53

Hehehehehehe.

One of my pregnancy books recommends nipple stimulation with a shower head to get labour going for at least 2 hours! Like I've got 2 hours to spend doing that. And I dread to think what nips would look like if you had a power shower.

Think I'll stick to raspberry leaf tea, sex and chilli.

LisMcA · 23/02/2011 17:14

My mum told me about the scrubbing of nipples, only she said she used a baby toothbrush. Doesn't sound so harsh don't you think! Mum has been really good about me wanting to BF. She BF me no issues, had huge problems with my sister, I won't go into as it sounded horrific, then did the toothbrush thing and managed to BF my brother. So it really is an individual mother and baby thing, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I'll be giving it my best shot!

LisMcA · 23/02/2011 17:17

Oh and as for nipple stimulation, Ina May described the method in her book I'm reading. Only thing is the diagram had, ahem, 2 people working on the labouring lady Blush. Do you think they will provide that kind of service at the hospital?????

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/02/2011 17:21

DO NOT SCRUB/BRUSH YOUR NIPPLES IT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING APART FROM HURT.

If you have pain during bf'ing it is because the latch needs tweaking, not because you didn't toughen up your nipples.

I had a friend who pumped for hours to start labour - I can't think of anything worse ......... apart from a shag of course Grin

Can't believe you'll be 37 weeks in such a short time petalouda, I am very Envy

JustKeepSwimming · 23/02/2011 17:25

No scrubbing of nipples recommended here!!

Though if you like birth videos, watch one with the Dad-to-be doing nipple stimulation in labour, though tbh i felt it was near-porn in a way Hmm Blush

really achy hips/pelvis today, have been trying to take it easy and let everyone else do stuff but hard to sit back...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/02/2011 17:39

Step away from the brushes ladies Grin

Actually - that is something else for hospital bags, a tube of Lansinoh or similar if you are planning to BF to help with the sore nips.

I've never leaked in pregnancy either, and I BFed DS until he was just two. We did have some problems at the start (understatement) but those were all to do with events post-birth.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/02/2011 17:52

Wow, I just watched that video JKS, those MW's and that mum had nerves of bloody steel. I would have been seriously panicing if it took that long for the head to come out.

Cyclebump · 23/02/2011 18:33

Hehe, I do think it's funny how quickly the grossness becomes the norm. Eugh.

Just been to physio for the last time. She's been so nice. So is 37 weeks full term? If so that means I'm 18 days off full term.

Aaaaaaaaargh! Kitchen completely ripped out and I still have a 'to buy' list a mile long, eek!

JustKeepSwimming · 23/02/2011 18:34

I know ILike ! - i came across it when looking for breech home births in case we went that way/tried to go that way. I would want to fly those MWs over from Brazil (?was it?)!!
