Continuation from our old thread here

So maybe this thread we'll see some babies?! And definitely lots more shopping Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cyclebump · 31/01/2011 09:09

Baby was awake all night last night and now has the hiccups. I blame the cat for waking him. He likes to lie against my belly and purrs in his sleep. Baby likes purring.

I so nearly poured coffee over a woman on the tube this morning. We both went for a priority seat that opened up. She looked at me, at the bump, then looked at the floor an stepped ahead of me to take the seat. I was so incensed I couldn't trust myself to speak lest I scream the f-work. The coffee was only lukewarm and I still regret not doing it even though it was about an hour ago!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/01/2011 10:20

Ooh Cycle how bloody rude! Why is it always women who are so vile to other women?

Think baby is breech and possibly back to back. I'm sure all the movement I could feel at the top of my bump in bed last night was little hands - felt really nice to be able to almost touch them through my skin Grin

I need to get my act together and sort out clothes etc for this baby. We've got piles of stuff all packed away that I need to get out and go through and then see if any shopping is needed.
And I need a buggy board so that DS can still hitch a lift :)

Cyclebump · 31/01/2011 11:20

Is NOT soppy! I got weepy twice on the weekend after feeling a what I'm almost sure was a tiny bottom and then being able to feel what I think was a little foot.

Plus my parents finally started the big move to France today and although I'm sad I had a vision of me eating cheese while watching my little one splashing in nana and grandad's paddling pool in France and I nearly cried because it was such a lovely image.

stuffedmk · 31/01/2011 12:25

I am also in the feeling huge club. I can just about get my socks on in the morning (with lots of huffing and puffing lol) but I can see me having to enlist DH for the job soon Blush

Baby keeps turning but does seem to prefer breach position at the moment, hope he will change his preference soon but I am only 31 weeks so I guess there is time yet. At least I don't have too many hard kicks to the ribs, although I'm not sure hard kicks to the bladder and cervix are preferable Grin.

I got well and truly told off yesterday for not preparing for my driving test. My Dad took me out for a practice drive and I had to try really hard not to lose it. My insructor has put up loads of test routes on his website and my Dad has decided that unless I have memorised every road and been on google earth to look at every route I will fail. Okay he has a point about it being a good idea but FFS I have other things on my mind right now. I would probably have been rather vocal if it wasn't him that has paid for most of my lessons, but I couldn't really say anything. Oh well the test is on the 17th and I'll have a bit of a look at the routes but I'm not going to stress myself about it...I will either pass or I won't. He thinks I can drive well enough so I really don't see why he has got himself in such a flap, he won't be paying if I need more lessons so it makes no difference to him. I just want it over with now.
Grrrrrr.....sorry, rant over.

Cyclebump · 31/01/2011 13:24

You're learning to drive while pg?! God you're brave. I've been offered lessons etc but decided it was just too much to cope with (much to my sister's continual criticism).

Baby has been really awake all morning following last night's kickathon. Dunno what's got into him at all! As I type what feels like a small bottom has just emerged.

AprilMeadow · 31/01/2011 13:33

Afternoon!

I cant believe how fast the time is going by - maybe that because I have 3 small whirlwinds to run around after..

I have been getting BH's since fairly early on, I think they get earlier with each pg. Mine do tend to be worse when I need a wee. I was in hospital with dd2 for a few days at 34wks with a UTI that was triggering very strong and regular bh's due to the bladder being so close to the uterus.

NitNat, I think it is really all down to each pg being different. My 3 have all been different gestation periods. Ds = 6 days late, dd1 = 3.5wks early and dd2 = on time. This time round I am hoping for early or on time :o

We have been in baby preparation mode for the last 2 weeks as we need to move the kids round in their bedrooms. Ds has moved to our spare room and has settled in very nicely and dd2 has moved into ds's old room. This needed to have some bits done in it first as there was a blue wall that needed changing to lilac and the carpet needed cleaning. Once this was all done she moved in and seems very happy. Now we need to try and get her out of the cot and into the toddler bed. Going to give it a few more weeks as she is still only 16mths and seems a bit too little.. I think dd1 was about 18mths when she made the move. Dd2's room will become the spare room/nursery and is starting to take shape.

I half packed my hospital bag this morning although still need to sort out the baby things and add a few last minute things for me, but at least I now know what I still need to get/wash/locate. Have also invested in some raspberry leaf tablets and some clary sage oil ready for when I reach 36wks (am 31+4).

I officially have 2 months to go today as my edd is the 31st March - Woo!!

Off now to go and try and find my motivation as I need to put the washing away and have a real case of the CBA's (cant be arsed)

LJB36 · 31/01/2011 14:00

Any tips for major major major stomach acid problems. I am struggling with playing with child number 1 as can't bend forward at all...can't lie down to sleep and can't pick anything up as the beinding over just killls me. The reflux so bad it makes me sweat.....I am not overweight (anything but!), non smoker, no alcohol ....have tried Rennies galore but still suffering and feeling REALLY fed up now!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/01/2011 14:12

Hello all! There seems to be loads of talking going on here.

I'm loving feeling all the little movements (and the big ones) and watching my bump move from the outside, although I wonder how I'm going to get bigger as my skin seems stretched to the max already.

Baby seems determinedly transverse - I can feel a spine all the way along the bottom of my bump. Occasionally it tries to move but I think the head is stuck just above my right hip. I have a lot of movement at the top and sides of my bump and nothing at the bottom, sides are being pushed out and there are two big lumps which I assume are head and bum at either side.

Holiday in SA was faaaabulous. I ate lots and lots of yummy fish, but steered clear of most of the other seafood as, typically, I couldn't remember what you were and weren't allowed. Also stuck to virgin cocktails (which were delish, it must be said) and forewent the SA wine. Spent 3 days bouncing around on safari but our ranger was absolutely lovely and went nice and gently although that did mean we didn't get too close to the lions for fear of disturbing them and having to drive away at high speeds. I got exceedingly soppy over very baby animals - saw a 2 day old wildebeest and a very newborn springbok. Then we spent a few days in Capetown, which was great, but my tolerance for walking has seriously decreased! DH has a wonderful photo that I didn't know he was taking of my up Table Mountain looking properly preggers with my hand on my bump, and some very nice shots he did to play with his camera one evening before we went out which I might vainly put up on my profile and limit to people on this thread only (if I can do that). All in all I didn't want it to be over and I swear I would quite happily move there to live!

The only downside was the toe (and my does it hurt)! Typically everything went fine until at CT international I managed to smash my toe into a luggage cart as some twat pushed me off balance mid-step - pushing past pregnant women isn't on - and I fell forwards. Blood everywhere, flight in less than an hour. I decided, stupidly, that I'd be fine to fly, probably influenced by the fact there are 2 flights from SA to where we live a week and I was due at work today so didn't fancy arriving on Sunday! So the first aider bandaged it up and I hobbled off. I made it onto the first flight fine - I blame the adrenaline - but after 2 hours it was agony and swollen so I hopped off the plane and halfway round Jo'burg airport so they could find me a wheelchair. Bonus was when they did we didn't have to stand in line or wait for anything! Made our second flight and, 4 hours of turbulence later, landed to discover no-one had said we needed a wheelchair, which we REALLY did by that point as I couldn't put any weight on my foot at all. Eventually that was all arranged and we got into a taxi for the local hospital, where I waited 3 hours to be seen, DH yelled at some poor orderly because he didn't want to bring me stuff so I could disinfect and rewrap my foot (as it was 12 hours since I'd seen anyone by that point and I was stressing about septicaemia) and eventually we were seen for a thorough telling off about waiting so long to see someone. Upshot is I spent all weekend in/on bed and it hurts like hell. Heaven only knows how I'll cope with labour/having an epidural (anyone want to comment on the relative severity for having local anaesthetic on a broken toe?) because this is freaking AGONY! Thankfully I don't have to work today as there's a tropical storm, although we're in the eye of it at the moment so nice and calm, otherwise I'd be screwed. My car is still at the airport so I have no idea how I'd have got to work!

BHs I've had since about 20 weeks but they seem to have tailed off a bit recently!

cycle I'd have socked that woman one.

stuffed I'm really impressed with you learning to drive whilst pg! When's your test?

april you're so organised packing your hospital bag Shock I haven't even started thinking about that. When are you supposed to get them ready?

Completely separate question - how fluidy does your bump feel? I'm a bit worried that mine seems to be all bone and very moulded around the baby than nice and cushioned.

stuffedmk · 31/01/2011 14:12

Cycle I am regretting learning while pregnant now, especially the last few weeks as it is all getting rather uncomfortable...baby kicks so much if I get nervy about something and my hips are achy a lot of the time, not to mention being too tired. But I have less than 3 weeks left then I will either have passed the test or have a break in learning until after baby.

April I'm with you on the CBA's Grin I have an essay to write and instead I'm here lol.
I have also started packing my bag, I have put most things in and made a list of everything else so I should have it all packed soon or be able to grab last minute.

I have had BHs from quite early, can't say they are that uncomfortable unless I am walking, they just make me a bit breathless. And I agree that they seem to happen more when I need a wee. The worst is when I am walking somewhere and baby suddenly leans on my bladder but there is no loo nearby......no actually the worst is that situation followed by suddenly sneezing Wink Blush

stuffedmk · 31/01/2011 14:22

snap Ouch!!!!!
Am jealous of the baby animals though.
Dunno about how much fluid is ideal, I imagine your MW would say if it didn't feel right. My bump is fairly cushioned but I couldn't say how much is fluid and how much is just fat over the top.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 31/01/2011 14:53

Stuffedmilk ? Good on you for learning to drive while you?re PG! Do you have a test booked?

I am trying to finish rewriting a novel before the baby comes and I lose my mind completely. It?s v daunting to know that I only have ten weeks left, I?m hoping the fixed deadline will help to get it finished.

I?m absolutely exhausted today. DD1 is 2.4yo and likes to assert her independence by refusing to do anything I ask (brush teeth, put on shoes, get in buggy etc). I have to chase after her loads which is really uncomfortable with such a huge bump. Plus, we?re in the midst of potty training which is a real pain in the bum.

We?ve been to sing-along at the library this morning and on a play date, so I now feel justified in relaxing with my feet up and a bit of m?net while she watches CBeebies plays with her play-doe.

stuffedmk · 31/01/2011 16:04

NotAnother A novel, cool, I can't even be bothered with this 1500 word essay that I'm supposed to be doing, it is dead boring though, wish I'd not done this course but it'll be over soon. I thought liked archaeology....apparently not Hmm I think they took all the most boring bits for this course.

Driving test is 17th Feb so not long. Can't wait for it to be out of the way...pass or fail!

caramellokoalalover · 31/01/2011 16:18

Hello family! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

As for the hospital bag, I have a list but don't think I'll get much further than that for a couple of weeks. I'll aim for having it ready by about 34wks so it will probably actually get done by about the 36wk mark.

Had my 28wk MW appt today and it was such a downer. Tune out now unless you're bored and fancy listening to a pregnant lady rant. Had to wait 90mins to be seen. MW told me off for not knowing my bloodgroup and it not being in my notes. Told me I shouldn't be taking antibiotics for sinusitis and that it shouldn't be making me vomit, and that I shouldn't be still being sick this late in pregnancy anyway Hmm. Have to seriously hope I don't get her when I go into labour or I may have to make my DH ask for someone else!

SaltedPretzels · 31/01/2011 16:18

LJB36 Cronic heartburn/excess acid:
Had the same docs prescribed Ranitidine bloody miricle cure if you ask me, not a whiff of trouble xx

SaltedPretzels · 31/01/2011 16:31

OOoh Hospital bag, labour bag in progress, post natal bag for baby packed for me almost there just a few little bits to add from next weeks shopping trip. Like to be organised Grin.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/01/2011 16:33

Frakk - holiday sounds amazing, but ouch at the toe! I've never broken anything, so I can't comment on the relative pain of labour vs. broken bits.

LJB - I was going to suggest going to the Drs, they will be able to prescribe you something which will be much better than the over-the-counter stuff.

April - argh you are organised with your bag! I must get mine sorted this weekend - I'll be 33 weeks and I don't really want to leave it any longer. DH is pretty good at shopping for maternity/post-birth/baby things having been through it all once before, but I'd rather be organised!!

caramel - you've committed the cardinal sin there of making her think rather than just go through the motions of your appointment. She sounds awful.
My MW is ok this time around, the one I had with DS was dreadful.

stuffedmk · 31/01/2011 17:19

caramel she sounds lovely Hmm really helpful and supportive Angry mine is pretty good although if I dare not to have used the machine in the waiting room to take my BP while I wait she gets all annoyed (the only time I didn't was when it had run out of paper so couldn't and she was still funny about it Confused)

JustKeepSwimming · 31/01/2011 18:30

What a horrid sounding MW!

Frakk - sounds like a lovely trip (apart from the toe obv, owwww), my parents lived in Jo'Burg for a while & Swaziland for a while, i know i could definitely live out there :) (have a sch friend just moved out to CT and her pics on FB make me Envy

just had skype cal with PIL now off for bathtime, back later :)

Petalouda · 31/01/2011 18:33

Hello!

Can I join heartburn club? Actually, mine's probably better classified as 'acid indigestion', I feel it at the back of my throat. MW said "ooh rennies are really bad for you" (or something to that effect) and prescribed me gaviscon.

Gaviscon is RANK. I can't stand the flavour, and the texture is like thick jizz (sorry to be frank). It's not even that good - it lasts no longer than rennies. And rennies are "bad"? Really? They're just calcium carbonate, they neutralise stomach acid to form salt (calcium chloride) and water. Gaviscon contains at least 3 active ingredients: sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate (both, with stomach acid, forms sodium chloride + water & a couple of diff products), and calcium carbonate. So, if anything, the other products produced (which I can't be bothered to work out) could cause more problems than the CaCl3 that BOTH rennies and gaviscon produce. So I don't know where she's got that clap trap from.

I'm going back on the rennies.

Ranatidine, I believe, inhibits stomach acid production. Solving the problem at the root. With no yucky texture or flavour.

RANT RANT RANT!! Really, these people shouldn't mess with pregnant stubborn birds who happen to be teaching neutralisation reactions to year 11s!

(just thought, if her idea of "bad" is that the additional salt produced could increase blood pressure and contribute to pre-eclampsia, she's still wrong, because there's been no link identified with dietary salt intake and incidence of pre-eclampsia)

LisMcA · 31/01/2011 19:07

Wow ladies lots to catch up with over the weekend!

My "Rub down" was the best thing I have ever had in my whole entire life. I was so giddy afterward my friend thought I was drunk!
First was a back treatment, exfoliation, massage and mud wrap. Then I lay down on my back in a cosy toastie bed and the rest of me was exfoliated, massaged and mud wrapped. THEN it was an oriental head massage followed by a mani/pedi. I can totally recommend havign somethign like this ladies. I really didn't realise how mych tension I was carrying in different places! Saturday night was the best nights sleep I'd had in ages! I wish I could afford to do it every weekend! Sadly, unless my baby goes without for the first year of his life, that is a pipe dream

Right, I'm off to catch up on the posts ^^!

Liv77 · 31/01/2011 20:39

Good luck with the driving test stuffed I also took mine when PG last time around. Luckily I passed first time but I was learning for over a year before I took my test. Driving Lessons turned out to be the most expensive birthday present DH ever got me (but that's his fault as he refused to teach me) Grin. My driving instructor used to call all his female learners Ethel so he didn't have to try and remember our names when we were driving. I never did ask him what he called the blokes.

BeetleBaby · 31/01/2011 21:51

Stuffed good luck with the rest of your lessons and your test! I'm very Envy as I've been meaning to pick up having lessons again but not got around replacing my drivers license to it.

Cycle I love the image of your cat curling up next to your bump and purring! I really miss having a cat. Though when I was at my parents for Christmas their cats seemed rather miffed there wasn't as much room for them due to the baby bump. Guess they would be full on sulking by now!

I agree that the Gaviscon is rank, and Petal's jizz description is pretty apt (it just tastes worse, the Gaviscon that is! Grin )I get terrible indigestion in the middle of the night, after I've slipped off my pillow mountain and am laid too flat, and it does stop it long enough for me to get back to sleep (once again on my pillow mountain!)

Frakk your holiday sounds amazing. I'm sorry it had to end on such a painful note. If it helps my Gran once said that the only thing to hurt more than child birth was when she broke her toe many moons ago! She'd just had a knee replaced and was trying to describe the level of pain!

Right, me and my wiggly Little Insect are going to settle down and watch the end of Silent Witness having caught up with our April Family Smile

kittycatcat · 01/02/2011 08:54

FFS i just wrote a really long post and the internet or mumsnet crashed. So here i go again;

stuffed good luck with your test on 17th, let us know how it goes.

Salted Sounds like a very good send of for your friend. I'm glad it went well.

Cycle how bloody rude. I symathise as rarely get a seat on the tube but i only go liv st to holborn. I now qualify to sit in 1st class when there are no seats on the overground as i am 2 months from mat leave. Had to send paperwork off to Nat Ex and chase them but app my ticket or whatever they send is now in the post. I sat there this am anyway [rebels] as its always busy at the front so i have been going to the back and then having to walk the length of the platform, and nobody checks the tickets.

snap ouch ouch ouch

notanother oooo cool. What is your novel about?

Lis sooooooooooooo jealous of your rub down. Me and the girls have booked a spa day for July but thats aaaaaaaages away.

We had our 1st antentatal (parentcraft) last night. Could think of a better way to spend two hours on a Monday night but it was actually worth going.

1stTimeMother · 01/02/2011 09:13

Thanks all for advice on clothing sizes - have ordered some newborn vests & all in ones in Mama & Papas sale & will keep looking at other pieces and hopefully have the right selection!

LJB36 - I swear by Gaviscon to get rid of the acid pains... having the same horrendous pains but seem to be right under my boobs.... that's all I can suggest! Hope it helps, it's brilliant for me although I have to agree with Petal it taste pretty nasty & the chewables gunk up round your mouth...

Cyclebump I do not know how you held your tongue with that lady but I would have gone mental - I can't believe she actually looked at the bump & looked down! What's her excuse?!?!?

SnapFrakkleAndPop I'm so jealous of your wonderful holiday, sounds amazing although obviously sorry to hear it didn't end so well!

I think it's time I booked a massage - back is getting so achey & sleep is needed!

architien · 01/02/2011 10:18

Emerging out of a sea of upset and confusion this morning to get the results back as 4.2 and 4.8 which is on the very healthy side of normal aparantly for not having diabetes. (talk about sugar adversion therepy though, I won't be wanting sweet things for some time after the icing sugar drink) I must admit to being relieved that this is off the cards as it was just a seal on not having a home birth and instead medicalisation for them. I'm back to just dealing with the normal amount of hastle which is a huge relief. Been crying rather a lot recently but this time the tears were from relief, which has made a nice change. Maybe I'll be able to lift myself out of this funk I've been in now. Ladies thank you for being so supportive I wanted to share the good news with you. I'll be more able to get myself back on my feet again now.
