A new thread for all us friendly Dec ladies

We sit and we type,
And we stare at our screens;
We all have to wonder
What this possibly means.
With our mouse we roam,
Through the rooms in a maze;
Looking for something or someone,
As we sit in a daze.
We chat with each other;
We type all our woes;
Small groups we do form,
And gang up on our foes.
We wait for somebody
To type out our name;
We want recognition,
But it is always the same.
We give kisses and hugs,
And sometimes flirt;
In PMs (IMs) we chat deeply,
And reveal why we hurt.
We do form friendships -
Yet why, we don't know;
But some of these friendships
Will flourish and grow.
Why is it on screen,
We can be so bold?
Telling our secrets
That have never been told.
Why is it we share
The thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see,
As though we were blind?
The answer is simple;
It's as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems
And need someone to tell.
We can't tell real people,
But tell someone we must;
So we turn to the computer,
And to those we can trust.
Even though it is crazy,
The truth still remains:
There are Friends Without Faces,
With odd little names.

Went to the first ante natal class last night. nice group and very down to earth midwife, and as we were the only ones there who had already had a baby, I had loads of questions Has reminded me at least of all the info I was given 3.5yrs ago that I didn't end up using. Only downside was that dd was looked after by friends, and didn't go to sleep when she should have, so answered the door for us when we got back there at 9.30pm But she soon crashed when we got home.....
Carpet went in yesterday upstairs and looks great So happy that the upstairs is almost finished and looking like 3 bedrooms we can enjoy now, instead of them all being half finished messes.....
Have a half day today to go home and sort out the furniture etc up there, so we can enjoy the weekend a bit, without loads of stuff to do.

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 09:58

right, need list from other dec ladies of what they need to do to be ready for baby, cause you ALL sounds organised apart from me!!

rough night (again!!!) pain in ribs awful, really couldnt sleep with it. its only better now I have been up and about for awhile. what do I have to do -sleep standing up!?
what day is your scan s/h?
and pampered chef.....didnt realise they were over here too! its often a whole topic of conversation on the american boards!!

kangel · 07/10/2005 10:09

Morning everyone, am back at work today although I know I shouldn't be but had to come in to do the overtime for the 50 guys I look after - It has to be done today and no-one else would be nice enough to do it for me!! Am feeling increddibly rough, head full of gunk and looking much like rudolf (although 2 months early)with streaming eyes and a thumping headache.

Ei - have been eating the chocolate but its not helping, am obviously not eating enough of it!!!!

Nemo - hope you are ok!!!

Bonkerz - Glad you are pain free!!

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 10:29

ugh kangel sounds awful. how mean no body would help you out. maybe you can pass on the virus to all 50 of them, just to get them back?

ninah · 07/10/2005 10:31

pampered chef grrr don't talk to me about that! I'd rather hear about cracked nipples! have a great time sh, keep your wallet firmly in your bag cos after all you ARE the queen of shopping!
I've just been reading this thread a bit more thoroughly and realised I missed lots of stuff. Scully I have the same feelings as you about another child, but ds is now getting really into it, refers to 'our' baby and says he will carry it to the park (hmmm) and we will play, 'we three' aaah. You aren't taking away love, but giving me, the way I see it now.
I had a bit of a late one too sh, friends came round with wine, a curry (and a book called 'Get Rid of Him!' lol)

ninah · 07/10/2005 10:32

You aren't taking away love, but giving IT should have said!

scully · 07/10/2005 10:41

Well said Ninah! My dd is constantly wanting to kiss my tummy, so my shirt gets lifted and she tries to get my trousers down, regardless of where we are Can't get cross at her enthusiasm though
What's pampered chef?
DQ, only starting to get organised with the renovations, baby wise, not really at all. Have bought 2 packs of newborn nappies, some cotton wool and wipes, some newborn dummies and a cot top changer from an NCT sale. Still need to get my cot and moses basket and other things from a friend who has been using them. Haven't washed any baby clothes and they are still sitting in bags, cluttering up dd's room, or she has put them on her dolls.....
Did find some nappy bags and breast pads left over from dd, & have loads of travel size toiletries that I've received as presents, so that's as far as I've got with my hospital bag
So not terribly organised at all really

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 10:48

oh good!
we have an unpainted unready 'nursery' no cot, no moses basket, no sling, no chest of drawers for nursery.
do have stacks of clothes, bouncy seat and car seat from loft and clean, most bedding, some nappies and some lotions and potions......
thankfully now doing home birth dont have to think about hopsital bag, aside from tiny one for emergencies.
somebody just said its 90 days til xmas......but its not is it? its 79. or have i gone mad????

ninah · 07/10/2005 10:52

scully, that's brilliant, bless dd.
Pampered chef is a kind of tupperware (in this case stoneware) party where you are mugged for cash in a friend's house and in return are given a complicated cheesegrater or similar.
I am SOOO not organised for baby! My little sis sent me a package yesterday with some clothes she had bought and it was so lovely! she is such a sweetie, mum always went to loads of trouble like this. And I KNOW I have a ss package to pick up cos it is waiting at the PO and I am going to get it tomorrow, hurray!

ninah · 07/10/2005 10:59

no pram, no nursery, lots of clothes in boxes, in all probablitity no partner.
I have a box of newborn nappies!
Let's face it, we cope, don't we! don't WORRY dq!

expatinscotland · 07/10/2005 11:03

'Nursery'? Nope. This is a small two-bed flat. Baby will sleep in our room until it's 6 months and then share w/big sister.

We're borrowing a cot, but we need a new mattress and sheets for it.

Other than that, he/she is using all of big sis's old stuff. Need to hit a charity shop to pick up a chest of drawers this weekend.

Need to get hold of some newborn nappies, however. Wanted to do real ones, but no dryer, no garden and this place can barely cope w/our normal washing, much less more. Looked into a nappy service, but it's proven just as expensive as disposables.

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 11:24

I am professional worrier ninah

george32 · 07/10/2005 11:55

DQ, you are so cruel telling me horrible stories of empty jelly tummies. Surely it just pings back to pre-pregnancy?

Scully, have we been living in the same house? We have 3 bedrooms all in total chaos! Carpet being fitted in 1 today - phew! Just in time for sleepover for 3 more teenagers tomorrow

Nemo, hope you are OK. Take it easy on yourself & make sure you start putting some cream on top of that hot choccy to really spoil yourself. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}

2 long hours down the hospital for me for the GTT test. I thnk everyone though I was mad in the waiting room as I just kept sitting there. Must have wondered why surely!!

sweetheart · 07/10/2005 12:51

Ante natal was quite useful - I wasn't going to do a birth plan as I'm a bit more "go with the flow" but now I think I'll write a few things down.

DQ my scan is on Thursday morning - not sure what outcome I'm hoping for really - guess I'll be happy no matter what.

Nemo - hope your ok hun. Chin up sweetie.

Ninah - I love the title of that book - made me laugh. Sorry I've not e-mailed in the last couple of days - I have been thinking of you!!! I've been trying to get some revision done whilst my boss is away. It's going quite well so far.

Have had our tiler on the phone to say he's doing our bathroom next week so we're decending back into DIY chaous. And just when I thought we were getting organised too!

bonkerz · 07/10/2005 13:12

Hi all, had best nights sleep ever last night. After about an hour the pills REALLY kicked in and i felt queasy and was asleep in no time. Didnt even get up to use toilet and DH and i slept through to alarm which is unheard of lately!
Pain is just picking up again now cos i havent taken any tablets at all today, want to wait till ive done school run so i can sit down on my ball etc.
I am quite organised with regards baby things. Nursery is done but need to put up border and wash clothes. Have LOADS of nappies (real and disposable) all in baskets and loads of other stuff like wipes, creams etc. Even have gripe water and boxes of baby milk in case my boobs dont work! Have nothing left to get and its more about tidying and sorting out cupboards when i finsh work than sorting out baby things! One thing i do need to sort is my bag for hospital but have opened my birthday presents (27 on tuesday) and all my friends have got me stuff to put in bag so may well have that sorted too!!

HAve really got to knuckle down tonight and do my packing cos am leaving at 8am tomorrow! So much to do and so little time!!!!! Am off now to find towels and sort clothes for ironing!

george32 · 07/10/2005 13:36

Bonkerz, I'm so pleased that the tablets have helped & you got some sleep finally. You must feel so much better today.
Grrr to you being organised though. You are all making me panic so much. If I have high blood pressure this afternoon I'll know why.
Worrying thing is, I still don't go out & buy anything though!

Have just been out to buy a lava lamp for the boys new room (no furniture but a lovely lamp - hmmm, that makes sense!!). Carpet going down as I type - woo hoo!! One step closer to being able to fit a baby in the nursery.
SH, why is it that we suddenly think of doing all the DIY jobs in the house once we get pregnant?

Nemo666 · 07/10/2005 13:48

quick hello to say thanks for the thoughts..am plodding along...got cpn coming out soon and my shoppig being delivered...will try and get o later.

sweetheart · 07/10/2005 13:54

george - we have been in a permanant state of DIY since we moved house 2 years ago. We brough a place that needed alot doing to it. We are nearly finished now but if I wasn't expecting I suspect we would have taken another year to finish it. Trouble is I'm impatient now and want it all finished before December!

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 14:55

woah.......i have just woke up! I have been napping for over 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oviously needed that!

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 16:40

and then i killed the chat......

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 16:46

arrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.
just tried to have a conversation with my mother. tried to get across expecting baby to be here by christmas and dreadgin christmas day/boxing day with lots of relatives about. tried hard to be tactful and explain I do want to see everyone but not get stuck with them for hours (i did use more tactful words there!) and you know what? she got upset, she said 'I just want to see the children for christmas' 'i want to spend time with my grandchildren' (in tearful voice) oh ffs! tried again to explain about being tired, bleeding, leaking milk, etc etc and she siad 'well you can just go upstairs' yes brilliant. I catn wait to spend christmas sat up stairs by myself, fabulous idea. and load all realtives onto dh who will love it. not. why is it so ahrd to get people to hear me and what i want? why oh why do i end up tiptoeing around them to please them? so that hasnt helped at all.
ahem, sorry, here endeth my rant.

george32 · 07/10/2005 17:01

How far away does your mum live DQ? Could the kids not go round to see her for a bit. It would give you, your DH and the baby some much deserved rest plus your mum gets them all to herself for a while.

Been out shopping for birthday sleepover tomorrow night. £100 on crap food!!! Birthday tea plus pregnancy is a dangerous combination when shopping. I've got profiteroles, strawberries, choccy bars, cakes, enormous quantities of sausages, chicken & pizzas & pop (the kids may well go pop once they come down from the e-number high!!) - hope it all fits in the fridge. Only concession to health was a bunch of bananas and they will probably rot!

ebbie22 · 07/10/2005 17:02

ll say that you and the kids will visit them...that way u can leave when u have had enough...

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 17:08

they are about 45/55 mins away, but they 'always' come to us as nobody has a house big enough for my 'herd'
this 'they' is my mother, her husband, my sister, bil, hyper nephew, and my dad. I could do a few hours with them here, but sod it, I really dont want an entire day of them. will have to set (totally tactless) dh on to them I think. and not even think about christmas day when I'm supposed to be going round mil with TWENTY other people there..... am I so bad to want quiet, and calm, just one year because I'll have just had a baby????

george, sleepovers at your house sound great! I'm much too strict when they are at mine!!!
actually they hardly are ever at mine now, because we learnt how little sleep and how much noise they cause! teenagers, or near enough in age, are HORRIBLE with no sleep!!! i wish you lots of luck!!

ebbie22 · 07/10/2005 17:10

couldnt youdo dinner for 2 or 3,that way you have the morning to yourself{kind off]?George is there any room for me at this sleap over????
