Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sasamaxx · 28/01/2011 22:04

Oh no Clarkiee - can see why you're worried.
Lots of people have had it and have no idea though - it is very mild and can be almost symptomless so hopefully you will already be immune Smile

bananarama05 · 28/01/2011 22:23

Evening everyone,

Having a bit of a wobble this evening :( One of the guys on my team at works gf is about 4 weeks behind me, due at the end of June. He took a call from her about an hour before the end of the day and disappeared very quickly soon after, we think she was taking herself off to hospital. I asked my boss if he was alright when everyone else had gone and his reaction wasn't great, he said he hadn't heard yet but he had just got a text asking to let everyone know not to contact him to ask if all was ok - he'd let us know if it was.

It's just really spooked me and know I'm going to struggle not to think about it all weekend. I really hope everything turns out ok, he's so excited and such a nice guy.

gdmts1981 · 28/01/2011 23:07

Hi All - sorry for being absent for a while, have been knackered this week.

Great news about all the scans happening - I have to wait until next Friday when I will be 21 weeks +4 so am hoping all is ok etc.

All this talk of shopping is slightly worrying me as we have literally nothing apart from a comedy bib DH got from an airport Hmm

I think I have subconciously been waiting until this next scan before buying anything as if I'm honest I'm still having trouble visualising having a baby despite the fact I must now be almost a perfect sphere shape Blush

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/01/2011 07:38

Clarkiee - oh no, I can understand why you'd be worried about slap cheek! I hope the GP will give you the all clear.

GDMT - relax! You still have plenty of time to buy baby gear, don't forget you have to have somewhere to store it all Grin
I had my scan last week, and am only vaguely thinking of getting stuff. The Mothercare cot can be delivered for free so may just buy it online. The travel system we will purchase from Kiddicare so again online.

Clarkiee · 29/01/2011 08:36

My boss has been great, I've got the blood test late morning on Monday and shes said don't come in on Monday.
I'm one of four I went to a large primary and secondary school and I've been a teacher for 8 years so fingers crossed I've already had it and I'm immune. I think my dad and DH first thought I'd made 'slapped cheek' up (or to give it it;s proper name parvovirus B19 , it does sound ridiculous. Just going to have to put it out of my mind until I've had the blood test and got the results back.

Oh dear banana it doesn't sound too good for your colleage I hope it turns out okay- it's awful when you hear something like that and you don't know whats going on.

jasmine51 · 29/01/2011 09:53

Buggery bollockings poo. Bledding quite alot this morning all brown blood so far but absolutely terrified as I'm feeling dizzy too. Not sure whether to bother the MWs or not...I'm sure they'll just say to rest and see what happens. I'm feeling really really heavy very low down and because of my blood thing I'm scared I've got some kind of internal bleed going on. If I ring the MWs they are just going to book me in for a scan right? Got one on Thurs anyway so knowing the JR I reckon theyll just say to wait. Oh bugger bugger bugger

takethatlady · 29/01/2011 10:00

jasmine after my own bleeding episode and all the variable kinds of responses I got I'd say go to the delivery unit (without asking - just turn up). When I phoned them they were rude, but when I just went down there they were really lovely and said I was right to get it checked out. They listened for the heartbeat, checked my cervix, took blood pressure and so on, and gave me so much more peace of mind.

Don't sit at home worrying - it's more than likely just blood from all the stretching and growing your body has been doing and as you said, it's brown, so it probably doesn't mean anything at all. But it's always worth getting it checked out just so you can relax a bit. Good luck, and lots of hugs.

takethatlady · 29/01/2011 10:00

PS - tell them the blood was red if you have to. It'll mean they definitely see you.

bananarama05 · 29/01/2011 10:46

jasmine get yourself off to the delivery unit as TTL said, you'll only stress yourself out thinking "what if" otherwise. Thursday is a long way away to be worrying and they're there to make sure you're ok.

Well my strange dreams have started. Last night me and DP got married, but he disappeared half way through to go and finish off a window display in Mothercare and then got in a massive fight in the midle of our local high street when I went to find him?! Bizarre.

gdmts I'm 22 weeks today and haven't bought a thing! Like you I wanted to wait til after my 20 week scan, which does make it all the more real but I just haven't had a chance to do any real research/shopping.

On that note I think I may get dressed and head up to Kiddicare, wanted to wait and go with DP but at least 1 of us are working on Saturday for the next 3 weeks at least and I'm getting itchy feet!

bananarama05 · 29/01/2011 10:48

Oops meant to say I hope everything's ok jasine and good luck. Didn't mean to sound like an insensitive cow bag.

sasamaxx · 29/01/2011 10:57

Yes Jasmine just get down there to get checked out - everything crossed for you that everything is fine.

Still no word from Nursesunshine?

Jer79 · 29/01/2011 12:37

Good luck Jasmine, hope everything is fine and all that comes of it is an advance preview of Thursday's scan.

takethatlady · 29/01/2011 13:21

bananarama I probably saw you up at Kiddicare - we just got back.

We didn't buy anything but have definitely decided on the pistachio-coloured Silver Cross 3D. It seems like really good value for money - sturdy, has a proper pram component, and small enough to fit in our boot. Quite excited (almost bought it there and then, but our car is due a service :()

Forgot to say PMSL at sasamaxx's 'all this talk of stitches is making me feel ill' Grin

bananarama05 · 29/01/2011 16:13

TTL I've just got back, spent hours trying to find new foundation in Boots first as they've discontinued my favourite No 7 mousse, grrr.

Not sure what you made of it but I shant be venturing there again without DP to "appreciate" the whiny overly precious pregnant ladies, gormless men stood in the way on every corner and over priced tat with me.

Moral of the story? Window shop in John Lewis then buy it off the Kiddicare website + mums 5% NHS workers discountGrin

But I also could have walked out of there with a Silver Cross 3D :) We saw one a few weeks back in Mothercare and I still love it every bit as much. The Linear looked good too and they're doing the car seat free with that as well but it is bigger and not convinced it will fit in my little 206. Decisions, decisions...

Anyhoo I'm being treated to dinner and tickets to Jason Manford tonight. DP bought them for my birthday present last year so have been looking forward to it for ages, just need to find something to wear!

jasmine51 · 29/01/2011 16:30

I'm back...a highly 'productive' day traipsing around various parts of the maternity centre at the JR. Well, I got checked out inside and out - I've got to stay in bed for a couple of days but the conclusion seems to be that my fainting and sicky episode earlier this week is related. I didnt know that the placenta moves during pg...gave me visions of something like 'The Blob' - not only that but it knows which way is up because it moves upwards..maybe its got a brain too..eeeek. Anyway the movement can lead to bits breaking at the edges and also hormone surges which would account for my ms recurrence. As long as no red bleeding all should be ok, heartbeat was good, bp was fine etc. DH got a bonus lesson in midwifery too which he enjoyed cos he's a medical geek.

So, fingers crossed it will all be forgotten tomorrow and back to normal.

banana your evening sounds like fun. Dont eat like I did yesterday at a chinese buffet...ate so much I was in pain.

clarkiee I cant believe the rough time you are having, its just one thing after another isnt it. Hopefully your test will show you are immune and for goodness sake...no more scares, you've had your fair share!

motherofsnortpigs · 29/01/2011 17:12

Phew jasmine51 So glad your placenta waited for your DH to return before going for a wander... Always good to get a medical professional to tell you to stay in bed when your DH is listening. PS the goldfish is still alive!

Clarkiee · 29/01/2011 17:13

So glad that everything is okay Jasmine51 I didn't know that the placenta could move either Confused. Hope you've got a good book, few mags, some good cds and maybe a dvd or two then you can make sure you stay tucked up in bed as the doctor ordered.

Sorry I've been such a winge on here recently (I didn't used to be newcomers honestly). When something goes a bit wrong I talk to me DH, my mum and share it on here. If you go around sharing it with everyone then all the questions, albeit well intended, can get a bit much- know what I mean? Going for a meal tonight for a friends birthday, looking forward to it Grin.

Is anyone else bloody freezing!!?!?!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/01/2011 17:35

Jasmine, glad you are okay, you did the right thing to get checked out. Put your feet up now!

Clarkiee - it has gone really cold this week!

AlmightyCitrus · 29/01/2011 17:39

Glad you're ok Jasmine51

takethatlady · 29/01/2011 18:04

Really glad you went down there jasmine. On my 12 week scan it said I had an anterior low placenta, but apparently in 19/20 cases it moves up (which, ultimately, you want it to do. If it remains anterior low you have to have a C-section). So hopefully this is a good thing for you!

bananarama I totally ignored everybody else in the shop. Couldn't get help when I needed it so DH and I just resorted to breaking playing with the prams ourselves, and mucking about with the toys. We only really bothered with the floor of prams, which was great because Mothercare and John Lewis have such a small range in Cambridge that you can't really get a sense of them all. The top floor of nursery furniture/bedding was awful, I thought - the stuff was crap compared to Mothercare/M&P etc. But it was fun to browse.

A friend of mine texted earlier and said 'I hope you aren't getting a Silver Cross!' She's got the Linear Freeway and said it entirely filled the boot of her Ford Focus, was really heavy to lift, and really big for pushing around shops and things, so she's ordered a stroller now her baby is 5 months old. But I liked the 3D and another friend of mine has it and says it's great, if heavyish compared to similar ones. Apparently the Oyster is good ... God knows!

moomin156 · 29/01/2011 18:45

We are looking at the baby oyster......its our top so far, we also loved the Silver cross Lenear freeway but know its not practical even though it looks lovely

Leroy - as far as I am aware the £500 grant is for low income families.
The £190 grant stopped in January.

Just found this info on Directgov site. which should answer your questions.

sasamaxx · 29/01/2011 22:07

What a relief jasmine!

Well, I weighed myself and I have now gained 2 full stone Shock
