I'm sorry, I haven't been on in ages and I haven't got a hope of catching up with you chatty lot...I've been so tired and just struggling to cope with work and sorting out my DCs. I am still waiting for the blooming phase. At least the vomiting and nausea seems to have finally worn off.
I am very jealous of those of you who are having/have had 20 wk scans. Mine isn't for nearly 3 weeks (won't be having it until 21 weeks) and while I have been feeling kicks, some days I get freaked out as I don't feel anything at all. I know in a few weeks I will be complaining that I'm being kicked all night but that seems ages away at the moment.
Right, I think you've been talking about baby essentials?? We bought a lot of stuff first time round and actually there isn't much I would say you definitely need. My must-have list:
Monitor - still used now as we have a big house and no hope of hearing them when we are downstairs with the telly on. We have never used it upstairs though, just kept the doors ajar. It was invaluable when we had bouts of sickness as we wouldn't have heard that otherwise.
Bouncy/vibrating chair. Admittedly I had twins and it really is essential then as you can keep one happy whilst feeding the other (never did get the hang of feeding them both together). Anyway, the ones we bought later on have been fab as they convert into toddler chairs and we used them until they were nearly 3 see here
Car seat/buggy - fairly obvious. Isofix car seats make life a heck of a lot easier rather than fiddling around with seatbelts. I get to buy a new buggy this time as we had a twin one first time round and am very pleased that DH likes the bugaboo as I secretly hankered after that before I realised I had twins first time round.
Cot mobile - really settled my boys this one is good and not too irritating
In-ear thermometer
Bath support for babies here and sitting babies here and here
muslins - you can never have too many
changing mat - you can do without one but it can get messy and not so nice if it happens when you are in someone else's house!
Activity mat/play gym - good place to plonk a baby, if they are sick its caught on there and you can wash/dry them in no time at all.
breastfeeding cushion - helps to avoid you straining your back/shoulders by having to hold the baby in the right place. I got a huge twin one last time and then failed miserably at feeding them together so want to buy a new (smaller) one this time.
I'm not sure that a changing bag is essential, I spent bloody ages trying to find the "right one" as DH refused to carry most of them as they looked too girly (he had a point). However, after a while, I just chucked it all in a rucksack which was easier. The only things that are useful are the portable changing mat which you usually get with them and the bottle insulator but only if you are intending to bottle feed. I wouldn't get a breast pump/bottles/steriliser until you are sure you will bottle feed, otherwise you might well waste your money. Its so easy now to get them from amazon or a supermarket/mothercare that its not essential to have them before the baby is born.
Must go and do some work, will try my hardest to keep up from now
